I am a T-Mobile client using their ROM. I upgraded on KIES suggestion the Kernel to the most recent version:
PDA KF1
Phone KG2
CSC KF3
I am running in Android 2.3.3.
Phone is rooted.
I used busy box 1.17.2 and 1.19. Currently, it is 1.18.4
Everything runs fine, however, shortly after SMS usages (Messages) or telephone calls the phone either goes in a loop of MEssage - FritzBox App - Firefox. I can close the last apps while the first stays alive. No usage of anything else is possible before reboot. Sometimes telephone calls are terminated and phone shuts down.
I hope I could explain a little bit what happens. I tried to look for an error log to be more specific.
My question now is:
What causes these problems, my best guess is that the kernel is the source as it it happens only after "Communications". Is this a known issue or is there more wrong to the phone? Too many apps or a specific app?

Does sound quite odd, try clearing cache, should the issue still exist, try flashing back to stock kernel and see if it still has the same problems. Is your root kernel source same as the original?

Root Kernel is KG1 from Odia. Happened before with the other Kernel as well. I already cleared cache. There is no insecure KG2 for T-Mobile available. Any idea how to make the Kernel rootable/ insecure. I suspect it must have something to do with the Kernel. For rooting, I try always to get the insecure version of the branded one. Different kernels (insecure/ secure) that do not completely match could cause this?
Maybe I have done something wrong which is the solution. Let's start from scratch how I rooted the phone.
I had original Kernel on the phone. From this one, I upgraded straight to the insecure, rooted and than just put one the most recent one.
Is this causing the problems? So better upgrade to the next official one, than use the insecure to root and than put the official one back on. All done via ODIN? Would this be the solution?

I used KIES to get the orginal KERNEL on the phone. So far no problems there. I want to test it over a couple of days and then root it again. Hope this fixed it.
2 Hours later
Okay, after roughly 2 hours I came back in this loop with Internet/ Messages. I cleaned the RAM and now it works fine. Why does this happen? Never had this before. Is this an App causing or just the Kernel. I could use ODIN to get back to the first Kernel that was preinstalled. Phone is currently not rooted. However, when I use ANDROID system Info (App), under BuidlINfo I see Type: USer and USer: Root. Should I probably unroot first as the system is confused and thus these errors appear?
Hope some could help here to clarify.
Need help and advice to fix problem!!!!!
Is this what I did wrong?
I had Kernel KF3 on the phone and put straight the insecure Kernel KG1 via Odin to the phone, rooted and then had original KG2 on it. This was the time when things got worse. Had the problem with KF3 already altough I first went to KF3 via KIES and then ODIN/ SuperOneclick/ ODIN for original firmware.
Does someone have an idea how to fix it? Going back to the first firmware and upgrade then to the most recent one? Anything to check in ODIN apart from the ususal ticks in F.Reset and AutoReboot?
Please help as it is get really annoying to reboot every now and then during the day.

I always thought power on/off is similar to Reboot. I was proven wrong. I just rebooted with volume up+home+power. Since then phone is stable. Sometimes TWLauncher crashes and reloads.
Thanks for the support. I think this has been fixed....hopefully.

KF3 and KG1 is very different...since the F and G is well, obviously different. Usually if you matched a KF4 with KF3, it should be ok but KG1 is quite different. As with anything at this point in time for you is to flash to a stable ROM currently released, which is KG5 since there are root kernel available for KG5. It is the most recent Kies official release. KH3 is newer but not official Kies. If you update to KH3, you may not be able to gain update through Kies, therefore stick with KG5. Both are Android 2.3.4 for you information, hope that solves the issue and remember to clear all Cache and Dalvik in your case since you already have issues...

Problem was that a system file for synchronisation (syncmldstmo.apk) was deleted. I do not know how, but I could restore it with Titanium. Since then, all my problems seem to have vanished.
My Apps does not work. I do not see any downloaded app. Seems to be a Google problem since I stumbled over several threads.....no solution so far. I asked them directly. No solution.

I'm getting it on mine as well. Out of curiosity, did you get a Bell SGS2 that's unlocked running on Rogers?
Mine come in with a time stamp 4 hours early.
rogers and at&t (in the US) both have this problem. its a VERY old bug, dating back to the beginning of rogers. I remember my sony ericsson w580 also had this problem. my moto milestone too. also my sony ericsson c905. and my girlfriend's galaxy s. any phone from another carrier brought over to rogers ****s up. Doesn't happen with any other carrier
Rogers uses standard time for its network while our phones uses local time. Rogers has to preset sms settings on the phone differently from everyone else.
what DOES matter is this. goto the market and download smstimesfix and follow the instructions to the point. tada problem solved
I am now with bell and no hassle though customer service SUCKS ASS
i have an imported sgs2 and it works fine running the stock messaging app. i did have that issue once when i flashed a rom that was using a modified messaging app.
there is a free app in the market, search for sms timestamp or rogers timestamp. i have used it on many android devices, including the sgs2, and it will allow you to fix that issue very easily with no noticeable effect on battery life
I'm using the Bell unit on Rogers and just noticed the bug. Wow this brings back memories of the same bug when I was using the HTC Hero.
What a pain in the ass. Going to try "SMS Fix Times" to see if that works.
Try upgrading to the unofficial KG3 with CF KG3 kernel. Fixed the issue for me.
The sms time bug is present on rogers and is easily fixed by the Sms time app people are mentioning, also if you aren't very fond of the stock messaging app you can install Handcent SMS and it automatically fixes it, its quite a nice app so its worth checking out.

Ok...this is where the big noob in me comes out.
It's okay for me to go from KG2 to KG3? When I initially performed the root and flashed the KG2 ROM, the CF instructions indicate to stick with the same "code" (ex. KG2) that the kernal is based on with the shipped device.
Does that even make sense?
Anyways, if I go from KG2 to a KG3 ROM, how will it impact my device? Will it wipe all my data?

It's best to wipe everything, however there are Frankenstein versions of each build that will allow you to flash without wiping. As for CF, just choose the kernel that matches with the version you're flashing (i.e. KG3 or KG6).
My recommendation is to flash with a wipe as it will ensure that it isn't a setting or software that is causing the issue. I did a wipe from KG2 to KG3 and a no wipe from KG3 to KG6.
Follow the guides. You'll need download mode (power off then home + volume up + power), Odin to flash the files (NEVER USE THE .PIT) and the .tars to flash.
Stock firmwares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
CF kernel + root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

this worked...thanks!
Hi. I have the Canadian SGS2 from Virgin Mobile.
I want to update the firmware on the phone but Im unsure as to which one to use. Right now the latest firmware for this specific phone is UGKG2. My model number is GT-19100M. Im just wondering which firmware would be the best to update to. Ive been having a few issues with my phone and apparently updating the firmware is suppose to fix it (like the Wifi sharing garbage that starts every time you tun wifi on, but doesnt go away when you turn it off)
Anyway - which firmware would be best to update to, or if it would be best to just update to the latest which I think is XKH2.
Help is appreciated. Thanks!
Yeah sounds like you are on an older firmware which a lot of us battled back in May with the wifi-sharing battery drain. You'd be safe flashing any ROM really. Not sure if you prefer stock firmware only or not as some of the custom roms are great. I'd suggest KH3 as many bugs have been fixed that are evident still in your ROM. But you may want to check to see if anyone has a backup of your current rom in case you need to take it in for warranty. I have an i9000 but friends who are using i9000m Bell model are able to flash any i9000 rom without issue as there really is no difference from what I know. If you do flash, keep in mind that your boot logo will say i9000 and not i9000M, which is why you may want to look into backing up your current rom (by rooting and flashing a custom kernel to make a backup) just in case you need to flash back for warranty repair.
I use Batista Rom and really like it but I always tend to prefer custom roms. I think you'd be better on any newer rom, stock or custom to get rid of the bugs you got in that firmware you're on
so to be clear - I can download KH3 and use Odin to flash without issue, Even though Im on the stock I9100m Virgin Phone? And KH3 is a single TAR file that needs to be placed under PDA correct? I basically just want my phone to be the exact same as it is now except with the firmware updated.
Will anything be different or will it all seem the same as if I were to do a factory reset right now?
Also where KH3 is 2.3.4 and my phone is currently 2.3.3 - this wont lead to issues when using Odin?
Thanks for the replies.

Yes you can flash KH3 using Odin under the PDA section. Depending on where you downloaded the KH3 firmware it probably wont wipe your phone so I normally do a factory reset after just to make sure it's a clean install. Make sure you back up anything you don't want to loose. Also take note that the KH3 package includes files that will change your boot up image from I9100M to I9100. If you want to keep things as close to stock as possible you can remove these files from the package since you don't really need it: boot.bin/sbl.bin/param.lfs. All you need to do is use winzip or 7zip, double click on the .tar file and delete.
Haha. Thanks for the replies.
I'm happy to say that everything went without a hitch - and all of my problems have been solved. One funny thing, was the camera shutter sound - which from what I read is suppose to be hardware related - was actually fixed as well - no more sound when opening the camera app.
Battery Improved
Wifi Sharing bug = gone
Shutter Sound = gone
Random restarts while listening to music = gone
And I got list view
Thanks guys!
im in the same boat. i just got a galaxy s2 a couple days ago. I just want to flash my phone to 2.3.4. Which firmware do i download? Where did you find KH3? thanks
Hey all,
I have been searching for the proper subforum to post this so I hope it's the right one.
My problem is that I have an S2 which I recently updated to 2.3.6 but since then, I started to have random reboots.
It SEEMS related to wifi because I don't have them when wifi is turned off, but I cannot determine this 100%.
Over on the GoT forum, dutch users are reporting the same issue.
Phone specs:
Productcode: GT-I9100LKAXEN
PDA: KK2 / PHONE: KI4 / CSC: KJ1
Non-rooted.
Whether I have a stock ROM or not I do not know, I'm quite sure it's not branded but Samsung doesn't seem to know either.
KIES says that I have a XEN firmware, I'm wondering if this ROM is for the Netherlands, or Europe, or worldwide(if that exists) but this is not my main concern.
Now, I've been battling with Samsung NL over this issue via Twitter, but the messages are mixed. A few days ago they announced an update, then OTA, then they went silent. Now they are saying they don't know when they will bring out an update.
All I know is that it is very frustrating to have a phone which keeps rebooting AND to have Samsung not give me clear answers.
Does anyone have a clue? Where do I begin troubleshooting this?
Before, this issue was nonexistent.

If its branded then its branded with network stuff fairly easy to spot .
Unless you flashed custom then its stock .
Presume update was via KIES or OTA ???
If you updated then first choice is backup data and factory reset .
Second is to redownload firmware .
Third is to go the self install route .

I'm sure the ROM is buggy, but I'll try a factory reset next week.
Is this problem only with this ROM? Nobody with a stock 2.3.6 ROM experiencing this?

My phone random reboots every now & then, it appears to be due to the SD card, Im in the process of reinstalling all SD programs to phone memory instead, it appears some SD cards dont play nice.
How do I remove old shortcuts of programs no longer on phone?
If u fix this some other way, let me no
Hi Iceman, I have the same issue, can't really say if its the wifi, sure I know its after the PDA:KK2/PHONE:KI4/CSC:KJ1(XEN) update with KIES.
Actually, the kies program s***s, I always have problems when updating firmware.
Think on flashing back to original with Odin, or do you have a great solution for this annoying matter...
Same here,
official upgrade via Kies (Dutch customer), and having daily reboots since.
It started after the 2.3.6 upgrade.
No idea why, something wrong in the ROM I guess, I did not install new programs. Clearing the cache did not help, also factory reset did not help.
Yeah ive started having reboots since getting 2.3.6
Kies at the time didnt have the update but the phone said there was one so i let it update using my wifi. Going to leave wifi off on my mobile and see how it goes. Will let ya know if its still going goood.
If anyone figures it out please post back, thanks
havent had one reboot since disabling wifi.
Hey there!
Before anyone asks, I have done the following.
Searched on google/XDA for solutions
Flashed different ROM's
Changed Kernels
Wiped all cache
Did factory Reset
I am currently having bad network problems with my phone.
I am running JellyBam 6.7.0 with default kernel.
Baseband: XXLQ6
Problem
I constently get No Service or "Emergency Calls only" in areas that I've never had emergency calls in. I am not aware of my old modem or RIL, and so am completely lost of what to go from here as I haven't found posts that could help my issue.
When I reboot my phone, turn airplane mode on, or just randomly it will go into the stage above, to where it will stay without signal for 10 minutes up to days (I've had it go for 2 days with no signal). When I try to search for networks (In places where there is 100% a network) it will say "error searching for network".
I have no idea what to do, and am rather scared. There have been 2 emergency situations to where I needed a phone, and yet mine had no signal.
My second question, is if I manage to get it back to stock ICS (4.0.4) and do all the updates through KIES, will I get the original modem + RIL back as well as the ROM? Or will I still need to flash that myself.
TLDR: If I reset it back completely to stock ICS, will everything that I have done (root, flash modems, flash kernels etc...) be erased.
Thanks so much for reading, I've got so much stress rigt now.
Are you getting no service all the time or only intermittently ? Also, check your IMEI in settings/about phone to see if it's the generic one (0049.....), whatever you do tho don't post your actual IMEI here. Just a yes/know answer to the 'is it the generic one' question will do.
If it's a constant thing, call your carrier to check if it's been IMEI blocked. If it's intermittent, flash a stock ICS rom as you'd suggested. You'll end up with whatever modem/baseband is attached to the rom you flash, and yes, you'll lose root & the kernel you're currently running will be replaced by the stock kernel in the rom you flash.

Yes it's only intermittent, so not a problem with the IMEI.
So if I find, and download stock ICS to bring it to factory it should be fine? If I were to, let's say, flash the ICS onto the phone, is there any way to keep the RIL+ Baseband and flash back JB? Or when flashing JB, will it replace whatever RIL+Baseband is attached with the ROM.
Also, thanks for the quick reply. I was expecting days for a response.
Forget about JB/custom roms/anything else until or unless you get your phone working normally again. Flash an ICS stock rom for your region.
And forget about the current RIL/baseband. It sounds like it may well be the cause of the problems you're having; quite possible if you've been mucking around with different RIL's in particular. Pretty sure I said in my PP that you'll end up with whatever baseband is lumped in with the stock rom you flash.
Actually, you might want to stick with a stock rom specific to your carrier if there is one, at least that way you know the modem/baseband will more than likely have been tested by your carrier & is likely to work well with it unless there are other issues (carrier side connectivity issues or other problems with your phone).
As to whether doing this will fix your issues, no idea. At the moment, and in the absence of any clue as to what's causing your issues, it's the best option you've got. If it doesn't fix the problems, then it's probably a carrier-side issue (possible given it only happens at certain times/in certain locations) or a physical problem with the phone (less likely).

Yep. Flash the Optus rom given you're effectively using their network & see what happens.

Worked fine after a factory reset. However, Kies won't update my phone.

That didn't work.
Anyhow, I managed to track down a 4.0.4 variant of the ROM I was using, and made sure the CSC, PDA and Baseband all matched up with what Kies wanted, and flashed it. I think the error occured I was trying to update a ROM with the wrong CSC and Baseband to one with the correct ones and Kies didn't like that.
Hi,
Firstly thanks for time and sorry if this is a noob question but I only have a fairly small amount of experience regarding custom roms.
Here goes...
I have changed the rom on my phone about 5 times over the last couple of years and never had a problem. I have the latest version of teamwin and I'm currently running Android Revolution HD 50.0 by mike1986. This rom works great as have all the other I have used in the past ie Cyanogenmod, Omega etc but the problem I am having is over the last 4 months I am completely losing network and even if I try to search for a mobile operator my phone can't find any unless I run a full power cycle.
I have been reading as much online mainly xda-developers to find a solution to this problem but I'm afraid I'm now just running into a brick wall. I understand this could just be a hardware fault but I have read somewhere that I may have the wrong modem installed for my phone.
How likely is this? Can having the wrong modem cause intermittent problems? Also if this is the case where the I find a tutorial on correcting this issue. Plus which modem should I be using in the UK?
Again thanks for you time and any help would be much appreciated.
Mike
Do a full wipe and flash the latest stock firmware for your country, then factory reset.
Test fully before you install or restore anything. If it is still the same then probably hardware.

I'll let you know if this solves my problem.
Thanks
ok..
I managed to get hold of the stock firmware from another site. I first installed a version of ICS so I could run triangle away properly after rooting with CF auto root as without doing this I couldn't reset my binary counter even after flashing stock recovery. Then I installed the latest version of JB and ran the official Samsung update to get my phone up to the very latest Official software with device status official.
So now my phone is completely back to if it just came out of the box. I finished late last night and installed nothing but WhatsApp. Then at about 3pm today again I completely lost network and couldn't restore in without a full power cycle. Even searching for Network operators in settings couldn't restore the connection. I can't think of anything else to try.
Any ideas what to try next please?
P.S. The firmware I installed is as far as I can tell for my location. I'm in the U.K. and I'm using the stock BTU version on baseband version I9300XXUGMK6
the same i9300 problem

P.S. The firmware I installed is as far as I can tell for my location. I'm in the U.K. and I'm using the stock BTU version on baseband version I9300XXUGMK6

This is exactly the issue I have now - I can get some signal, but can't get anything in terms of using 3G/Mobile data :/
