[Q] Different Custom Rom for Different Stock?? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As I just migrated from Vibrant, and it was having a single build stock it was easier to take any custom rom & port it.
But as S2 is having different build of stock, do I have to take particular custom rom as of my stock or I can port any custom rom and later I can go back to any stock build via odin??
Please clarify.
Thanx in advance

You are basically correct any rom will do .Most any stock except for a few odd locations .

Can u please specify which r those ODD locations.
My Current Baseband is DDKE4
Firware is XXKF3
and when I look at Stock firmware list here & at SAMFIRMWARE there was no match of the same stck...all XXKF3 is having KF3 baseband....

No idea .
Try Brazil China and USA as non standard and you should be ok .

[Q] Moving from branded rom to stock rom

I want move from my branded vodafone rom to the latest stock rom. so am I correct in assuming all I have to do is get the latest stock rom from one of the other threads and flash using odin?
Is there anything else I should look out for?
You'll have to reset the phone after flashing, if you want to change the phone's csc
Pick a rom with CSC for your area is the best method .

[Q] Little Help (puzzled)

Hi
I have a rooted sg2 on 2.3.3, i flashed the kernal to root.
I have bog standard rom, my battery doesnt last that long i have froze all bloatware, i have been looking into flashing with a different rom 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 for battery, speed and so on.
Question is do i need to restore my kernal to stock or can i just flash any rom or do anythjing to it in order to flash a different firmware?
Also what firmware is recommended? one where everything is still working as i use my camera ect.
Thanks alot in advance
Wait a few days for KG6 release to be put in new roms .
Custom rom your choice read the threads .
You do not need to do anything rom will overwrite kernel .

what do the KG3 or KG ect mean lol, might sound stupid but do they have to match up with anything on your/my phone before anything?
A before B
K = 2011
G = month of build = July August will be H
KG2 build before KG4 KG6 after KG4
KG 4 build 4 july 2011
Dont have to match if you are flashing full firmware and the Modem in a firmware is often an earlier build as they dont get changed as much .
General would be to Flash full KG2 firmware included phone kernel modem etc .
Custom may be different .

[Q] Can you change your Kernel???

Hello All,
I just changed from having a sony xperia x10 to getting a new SG2 and I am brand new to the SG2 forums. I am currently with Rogers wireless in Canada, but the phone was originally a Bell Mobility phone that was unlocked. I do see that superuser is installed on the phone (in which I assume that would be it has already been rooted) and I am able to use the phone on Rogers now.
I now want to install custom ROMs, but I do see that it is quite different than what I am used to. I see that custom kernels are all based on your existing Kernel (please forgive me if that is incorrect...), and that custom ROMS are tailored to specific kernels.
My current Kernel is
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
root(at)DELL103 #2
Model number - GT-i9100M
Android version - 2.3.3
Baseband Version - I9100MUGKF6
Am I able to change the kernel, so that I can install custom ROMs onto my phone? Or will the current firmware suffice? Thank you very much for your help, it is much appreciated!
Do you mean a kernel the full firmware or a custom rom .
kernel is upgraded with a later firmware or a custom rom .latest custom rom will usually have latest kernel or custom kernel .
Decide what custom rom you want and follow the instructions .
Rough draft to update to cognition rom latest i would
Flash a matching stock rom KG6 via Odin .
Flash matching CWM and Root Kernel KG6 .
Boot phone and set up .
Follow instructions in rom post which is usually copy to sd card boot to recovery mode and install zip via CWM .
Your Firmware is KDD thats very old now .
Only must check is Bell Canada and do you need to flash a different modem and or CSC for that area .

That is a TON of help. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it
Does anyone know if the current Bell SG2 can install an EU ROM?
Yes, I've installed a custom ROM (lightening ROM) which is based off a European ROM on my Bell's SGS II.

[Q] Problem upgrading from KI4 2.3.4 to KI3 Android 2.3.5

Hi,
I am currently using KI4 Android 2.3.4 and I want to upgrade to KI3 2.3.5.
I downloaded the firmware (but I think it was simply the stock kernel) from Intratech's post - "XXKI3 stock" and I flashed it using Odin, but it got me into a boot loop and thankfully I did a back up before in CWM4, but I had to re-install KI4, root it, go back into CWM4 to restore the phone. Again thankfully that worked otherwise I would have lost everything.
So... how should I be doing the firmware upgrade?
Also, should I download ZSKI3 instead of XXKI3? I know XX belongs to Europe, but where does ZS belong to? Does it even matter where it belongs to?
Lastly, if I decide not to use CyanogenMod, and I want to use another ROM or if I want to just simply use the stock version that came with the phone, what should I do?
Follow the instructions . Stock firmware thread .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
FULL FIRMWARE NOT KERNEL
ZS = China HK firmware .
Lastly, if I decide not to use CyanogenMod, and I want to use another ROM or if I want to just simply use the stock version that came with the phone, what should I do?
Dont make sense to me but if you want to use a rom you follow the given instructions likewise a stock rom read and follow the instructions .

Thanks JJe!
I have another simple question, is there any problem with installing ROM on different firmwares? Because as I look in the forum, I have seen the ROMs having based on KI4, KI3 and so on... is it critical that I upgrade the firmware, then install the ROM?

No mostly is the answer rom modem kernel interchangeable in practice .
My preference if KI3 custom rom would be to install KI3 stock beforehand .

[Q] upgrade to different stock firmware

need some help over here
Phone Info:
PDA:I9100UHKI2
PHONE:I9100UHKI1
CSC:I9100TPAKI2
GINGERBREAD 2.3.4 AND LAST SIYAH KERNEL
i want to stay on stock firmwares, but i want jkay mod.
last version is 13.2 for xwkk5 (2.3.6)
can i update to the XWKK5 from frankestein? (2.3.6)
and then flash my csc from the original stock firmware to have my apn setting or enter them manually.
maybe that is not possible and will brick the phone, so let me know if i can, with custom rom i have made it but i haven´t found one i like and i think is not the same for stock roms.
So i will stay on stock and i want to know if is possible to get to the last gingerbread firmware from mine stock rom!
I would do a full wipe including both cache through recovery mode and then flash away!

Yes you can flash a separate CSC or copy and replace the CSC files on the phone or rom .
Thats for stock or custom roms .
So i will stay on stock and i want to know if is possible to get to the last gingerbread firmware from mine stock rom
If its been released for your product code its on Kies .
Or via the stock rom thread .
