Query about setting Wallpaper in Third Party Launchers - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've asked the same in FAQ section but got no reply so far, so I think I need to ask this in a separate thread. Please, I will like to know a solution for the below,
"Hi, I have a query regarding third party launchers like ADW, Launcher Pro Plus, Go Launcher etc. The thing is I've tried all of them but how on earth does someone set a wallpaper with this? Whichever picture I select of whatever resolution they become dull, hazy, overstretched. I've searched this forum and also google and seen that this issue is very common! But I can't believe it. I mean is there no way, a simple way I mean with which I will be able to select and use a normal wallpaper just like default TW Launcher?
Thanks in advance."

Use 480 x 800 resolution pics for portrait wallpaper and 960 x 800 for landscape, any other resolution will give you poor results.

[Q] How to do single homescreen wallpaper

Hi, i only use one homescreen and was wondering if its possible to use a portrait wallpaper that focosed on the single screen. Ive googled and tried myself for a little while today but couldnt find a solution, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think what you mean is a live wallpaper called, try it.
Sorry for my bad english.!

The wallpaper resolution should be 640x480 (or multiples of) and all you need to is 320 in the center (legend res), disable wallpaper scrolling, but if you're using a launcher (like launcherpro) you can set 1 homescreen.
Hopefully you can figure out something from what I've written, as I'm not sure what you're trying to do.

[Q] Launcher & Wallpaper resolution not playing well

To begin with, I'm far from new to Android, just new to Samsung and the Note.
Also - I know I'm not the only one with this problem but I haven't run across a solution yet. I can take and image I want to use as a wallpaper and, on the lock screen and the Touch whiz home screen and it looks exactly like I want it to. But, since I'm one of those folks who dislikes the fact that I can't swap out apps on the TW launcher bar, I slap my own launcher on the Note to make it mine again. Unfortunately, then comes the annoying part.......
Whatever photo I put up as wallpaper looses resolution and seems to explode in size so that only about 1/4 of the original wallpaper/ photo is visible and what's left is very blurry. I know this isn't limited to just one launcher - I've tried ADW, Launcher Pro, Nemus, Go Launcher, Holo, and a few more I can't remember the names of right now. And they all give me the same problem.
So far I've changed the format of the wallpaper photo to .png or .jpeg and back again, tweaked the size and resolution of the picture, dug through XDA and a few other forums fort wisdom, and used harsh language on my Note - all to no avail. So, can anyone tell me what I'm missing or if there's any hope for me at all? I'm rooted stock 2.3.6 and would prefer, for various reasons, to stay that way for now. But, at this point I'm willing to consider options if all else fails since I'm getting quite annoyed by this.
Thanks for any help/ insight!
Use the Quickpic app to set the wallpaper.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

Wallpaper cropping Galaxy S3

Hello
I've been having trouble with setting a wallpaper from the day I bought this phone. I've now tried 4 different roms over the past couple of weeks, those being AOSP, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid and Sammy Stock, none of these allow me to set an image as a wallpaper without cropping it, even if I choose pictures that have been resized in Photoshop to 720x1280. This is quite frankly getting very frustrating, to the point where it almost makes me want to buy an iPhone (yeah, forgive the blasphemy). One of my main reasons for buying the S3 was it's gorgeous screen.
Is anyone else having the same issue? It doesn't matter if I use ES File Explorer, Gallery, the Album app from Xperia, the phone always forces me to crop. I've searched a couple of threads for answers, and tried taking a screenshot of the wallpaper I want, but still I need to crop it.
best regards, Tim
My standard answer to this question is to use Image2Wallpaper from Google Play .Or and PicSpeed Wallpapers .

This one works for me without cropping in TW
All background with this resolution should work with no issue...
Thank you both for replying, I will check out those apps mentioned
I've included a screenshot of the wallpaper that was attached to your post, here's how it looks on my S3, currently running Paranoid 4.1.1.
De-crop yourself!
Put your finger on one of the blue point and move it. You should be able to select the full picture...
You mean making the selection rectangle as small as possible or the other way around?
Cause it's stretched out to it's limits in that screenshot
You should be able to make the selection rectangle bigger (at least I can on stock rom...)
Maybe something with the rom you use or with the gallery app included in this rom...
This also happens on my stock rom, and every other rom I've used so far =/
Thanks for trying anyway

This same thing happens to me every picture I choose, no matter what size or shape! And when I try to adjust the cropping, proportionally the shape stays the same, It just always cuts some of the pic out. Is there a way to take a photo , image etc. and place it somewhere so that it shows with the rest of the stock wallpapers instead of picking from the gallery??

Is there any good nexus 10 wallpapers

I have tried downloading apps and getting pictures off the internet that are at 2560x1600 but they are all blurry. The only good ones are the default ones built-in. Is there any place to go to get wallpapers that are not blurry?

Try 'Pattrn'. The quality on the 10's screen is fantastic.
Wallpaperswide.com and use the simple image wallpaper app to set them as wallpaper.

Dont listen to the above, you'll always have cropping issues and it'll look horrible if you use 2560x1600 because Android wallpapers scroll and are meant to look good in both landscape and portrait. Ideally, you should use images that are exactly 3966x2560. There aren't a lot of those out there, however. What I've been doing until more become available is Google's image search, using the Search Tools option to limit the results to images exactly or larger than 12MP (4096x3072). Scaling an image down will look much better than scaling up, and using anything below 3966x2560 will do just that.
Edit: Sorry, I skimmed the other replies before writing this. technician42's suggestion for the Pattrn app is actually a really good one. The others though... as I said, anything less than 3966x2560 will give you a bad time.

Not 100% true.
So don't disregard the links above as they're perfectly useful and I have many wallpapers that are 2560x1600 that aren't cropped on my N10. Use an app called Simple Image Wallpaper Free in conjunction with wallpapers from the above links, or with any other 2560x1600 images you find. The app is actually a "live wallpaper" but there is nothing live about it. From within the settings check "fill screen" and the app will make sure there is no cropping of the image. If you are so inclined you may also choose different images for landscape and portrait. One thing to note, your wallpaper will not scroll if you use this. Enjoy.

The problem with this approach is, unless the wallpaper doesn't rotate with the tablet, it would look horrible in portrait mode (or Landscape if you used a 1600x2560 image). You cant fill 2560 of height with 1600 without ugly stretching.

I see what you're saying, but the wallpaper doesn't rotate with the screen, so it doesn't stretch. One downside is that some of what you see in landscape mode won't be seen in portrait, but I rarely use my tablet in portrait anyway.
Simple image wallpaper pro lets you choose a different wallpaper for portrait. I can't stand the scrolling wallpaper. First thing i turn off, and its MUCH easier finding good wallpapers. 2560 x 1600 is the right resolution for a non scrolling, one screen wallpaper. Looks great. Oh, just discovered yesterday that recent nova launcher update will let you crop and set non scrolling wallpapers. Woot!

The official AOKP from Steve Spear has this feature built into his ROM.
The easiest way to find wallpaper that you don't have to crop is Google images and use the Exact Size feature (priceless feature btw)
Search for whatever ("wallpaper" being a good start)
Search Tools
Drop down that says "Any Size"
Choose "Exactly"
Enter in the HxW you want in pixels..
I use screen captures from Minecraft. You can get some pretty cinematic effects in Minecraft using optifine. I have some nice pictures that have been featured on my homescreen. For example, a cave system or setting sun.

[Q] Three Screen Sliding Wallpaper

Hi all,
I would like to create 'one' wallpaper to be used on a total of 'three' screens on my SGS3.
The idea is to use the Accordion Scroll Effect in Nova Launcher across three screens.
Does anyone know the dimensions of the wallpaper that I need to achieve this?
Whenever I resize a wallpaper, the image does not crop right using the 'square' cropping feature in Nova.
The Notification Menu will be displayed at all times.
Would someone be able to provide a little bit of assistance please? :fingers-crossed:
