I have a few questions sorry if its a repost but id rather make sure I get a good answer to those questions then any other variant of them.
I got a galaxy s2 a week ago and I feel like the battery life is really bad and the phone heats alot sometimes.... (BTW this is my first smartphone EVER) I was wondering which one of all these custom ROMs out there is the best for the galaxy s2? Which one will give me the smoothest experience with a good battery life and fix that heating problem?
Also, I have the Canadian bell's version so MUGKG2... When I look at ROMs all I see is XXKH3 or XXKE7, etc... Basically how and what version do I have to use/install to get a custom ROM? (P.S I know how Odin works and I know how to root since my phone is already rooted)
And what is the latest Android version possible to get on the galaxy s2? I heard something about 4.0 but I think the latest version possible to install is the 2.3.4 am I right? Also, every ROM is 2.3.4 right? Or do I have to flash a 2.3.4 (or 4.0 depending on the latest version) kernel on the phone?
Thanks for your time and have a good day!!!!!!!

Hi everyone i got a few questions on Android terms:
I google much and i know what ROMS and rooting are but still,
1. What is KE7 that everyone keeps talking about? is it a ROM?
2. What is the stock ROM for a Galaxy SII ?
3. Is a customized ROM such as cm7 usually gonna change the whole user interface? or just modifiy the original UI?
If so, wouldnt a launcher such as ADW launcher be unnecessary as it already has modified your UI?
4. What is KF1/KF2 ?
Thanks a lot guys

1..Yes
2..KE7
3..CM7 is a pure Android Rom..You can still use a different launcher.. CM7 runs on a new filesystem and kernel..
4..They are roms but not official Samsung releases..

so KE7, KF1/2, CM7 are all roms...i heard that the stock rom needs kies to update. how about the others? do they have OTA updates?
Hi guys, I'm also quite a n00b at all this, new to android
I have a question about this kernels/roms as well.
I have updated samsungs firmware (KF2) as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
After that I rooted my phone as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Now, I came across an overclock! Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13709259#post13709259
Which seems really interesting.
My question is: will I loose my KF2 ROM/kernel if I flash this overclock kernel?
Can I even apply the mod with my KF2 kernel?
And what exactly is the difference between a ROM and kernel anyway?
Thank you! Trying to read up a lot, but it's not easy being a simpleton
Im also new to android and rooting and stuff ....my Nordic SGS2 is XWKE2 not KE7. But many of these funny hacks are for KE7! Which is the easiest way to just root my phone to keep it as stock as possible ? What do I need for it? I know I need Odin, the maybe SuperOneClick? Im just too confused about all the threads i've read here.... -.-
So last night I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 and I’ve got a few questions regarding various things that I havn’t been able to find through searching around on the forums. If the answers are around the forums and I have missed them I apologize and hopefully you can direct me there.
1. Since I used chainfires rooting method. I’ve used Nitrality’s app to ‘backup’ my /efs and something else it backup up. Here I’m wondering if I use a custom rom such as “Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3” will the things I backed up with Nitrality app restore my original ROM and Kernel incase something hardware wise fails and I need to send it back in to claim on my warranty.
2. The second question im asking is regarding various Custom roms, if I choose to flash ;Lite’ning rom, will I be able to since it states it’s;
based on I9100XXKH3 firmware
baseband I9100XXKH3
The baseband I’m using is XWKE7, will I be able to use this rom?
3. since the version of android I have is 2.3.3 and majority of the Roms need 2.3.4 will it work correctly? If not and I have to legitly update to 2.3.4 will it successfully update since i've rooted my phone?
Hopefully you guys can help answer my questions. Thanks.
bump because I really need help :[
- Litening ROM is based on KH3 ROM, that doesn't mean you need to have a Stock KH3 ROM. So yes, you can install it.
- As I said it doesn't matter what ROM you currently have to flash a 2.3.4 ROM.
- Don't know about the Back up issue, sorry.

thankyou so much for your help
before I flash it will I need to upgrade my 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 though?

I've inaktive for a long time(about half year) and dont know what current situation is like...
My Galaxy SII still has CheckRom RevolutionHD 3.1.1, Android Version 2.3.5.
Since ICS 4.0.3 (or even higher?) is coming out, i wanna finde a good, stable Firmware or Rom .
Tried some already, but all doesnt work fine. And there are plenty of Roms i never heard about, doesnt wanna try each out. Some people who has knowledge about the current Rom-stats, please post!
I Just need one with less battery drain + funktional, maybe good Performance
>ou can give me links to the Rom/Firmware Threads too!
Thanks!

Please read. (it's a sticky in this very forum)
Read the tag at the bottom of the thread as well. Try a bunch of roms out until you find one you like. Flashing roms/backup/restore is simple & takes 5 minutes in CWM. No excuse for you not doing this.
Please try the ROMs for yourself and then tell us what was the best.

Hi, so I am new to the whole android thing and my partner has a new phone so I thought, why not learn something about it and try to upgrade her old one since it's impossible to do normally, let me explain.
So the version in question is GT-I9300 JZO54K.I9300XXELLA and after researching it seems as if the highest version possible is already on the phone, 4.1.2, yet I know a few people that also has a galaxy S3 but they are able to upgrade on a regular basis.
So I want to know can this phone be upgraded in any way? Also how do I know what version I can use? there are so many different versions for each phone
Thanks

There are custom and stock versions of Android 4.3 as well as custom 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 roms. I suggest reading up here:

So let me get this straight, providing the ROM is for a Sumsung S3 GT-I9300 I can put in on my rooted S3 device?
Does the Baseband, Kernel Version or Build number have anything to do with what ROM's I can use?

Yes, if the rom is made for your phone, then it shouldn't be too big of an issue to install. The versions are important insofar as it's not recommended to downgrade, due to the Knox and bootloader "updates" from Samsung. As far as the modem, just make sure it's for the same update (4.4 modems for 4.4 roms, etc) unless the developer of the rom you are looking at suggests another. If they don't mention it specifically in their install directions then it's best to have the one matched to the region you are in for the international Galaxies like the S3.
Hello, I got my girlfriends phone rooted and all that good stuff. It is currently running CyanogenMod12 from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-mega/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod12-20141203-t2963804 . She doesn't like the lay out of the rom and it drains the phones battery very fast. What other variants of roms are compatable with this phone? I am only familiar with my galaxy s5. So I'm looking for some help. I need a rom thats compatable Im guessing probably one better or just as good as cyanogen, and lastly if I can not find a rom that we are happy with can anybody give me a link so I can odin a stock rooted file? Just to go back to stock root. I have scoured the forum there are so many variants of this phone.
