Hello guys!
I recently flashed MIUI on my SGSII, and I am VERY pleased! But, but.
Whenever I recieve mms messages on my phone, it will be in a very low resolution. I used "GO sms Pro" for a while where I changed the convertion size and such, but still, I seem to send and recieve very small images. Then when I got MIUI I didn't even have that function available, and since I actually find the MIUI text app to be quite sexy, I canned GO Sms for good.
Is there any file or something that I need to change, for my SGSII to recieve bigger images? I know it can be done on my network, since I've actually been able to on my old SGS, without any tinkering.
I've done a search in our rootforum, and I don't seem to find anything on this particulat issue. :/ Sorry if I'm wasting your time with something already out there. But I can't find it.
I know it could actually be the way other phones were configured, but then they should be able to recieve my pictures in the res I sended them, right? Wut do I know, really.
Please help me out, some1? ^^ A flashable CWM-zip or a little walkthru would be preferred.
Thanx in advance guys!
I use MMS rarely, so I can't help you, but I think all of MIUI stock apps have a problem with images. The gallery app doesn't show images properly either, but there's no problem with 3rd party apps.

Is it possible to adjust a ROM so this isn't the case as it wasn't in all 1.5 ROMS? It's really starting to get annoying
Not that I'm aware of... I've not seen this in any 2.1 ROM, but I'll check out the apk for anything in the smali code

Cheers, it's not just me though is it? As when you choose which contact type to view under contacts it won't show the facebook contacts etc but if you view them from the dialler then all are still visable....

I have exactly the same issue, the facebook contacts dont show in the phonebook but show in the dialer?! Yet to find a way to stop them from showing.
I'm running VillainROM 12 btw, and apart from this little gripe the ROM is awesome!!!
I've been asking about this for ages... I thought it was only me!
Glad to see this thread even if theres no solution as it means I haven't gone completely loopy!
its also show sim contracts which are not in the people program. I turned of the view in people as im on o2 and they have preinstall number for bolts on and stuff like that but there still in the dialer and even if i delete them from the sim if i reboot they are back..
that the only thing that get on my wick with this new update.
It wouldn't of thought it would be to hard to solve as there must just be a slight change from the 1.5 dialler as they look identical?
It's in every 2.1 Rom I've used.... VERY annoying!
I've also come to realise that when trying to send a message whichever application I use it seems to use the same contact settings as the dialer, so if somebody has a different mobile number saved to Facebook it will give you the option of 2 numbers for them and It's impossible to know which is the sim, phone, Google or Facebook number... Grr..
Moved as not development.
Ok just hope it gets as god response in here
I guess not....
To best of my understanding this is a lost cause: The problem is obviously with the HTC phone application, but we don't have the source for this application so it almost impossible for someone other than HTC to fix it. You can try to bug HTC about it but I doubt anything will come out of it.
So is this a problem on official 2.1 update too?
Like others, this is the only real annoyance for me.
Would it not be possible to replace the application with the one that was used in 1.5 to solve the problem? It's a major oversight at the moment
Surely this isn't impossible.....
Hi guys.
I recently installed 2.1 on my X10 and Sony's SMS app is so bad. Its slow and inefficient. When one sends a message the application blocks until the message is sent so you can't handle multiple conversations simultaneously. The loading of conversations also blocks the app so you can't do anything. On top of all this it is generally slow.
I went on a Quest to get a new app working. I tried Handcent and ChompSMS but they wouldn't send MMS messages and I wasn't happy with their interface.
I then tried to get the default Android 2.1 SMS app working but the picture took over the list view. (see attachment)
Has anyone ran into these problems and/or can suggest a better, more efficient SMS/MMS app?
Thanks in advance,
Scott
Erm... handscent sms supports MMS...
You just have to press the (+) button
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have been trying it but it won't send MMS for me nor receive any. (it seems to use the default messaging app to receive them and then reads the messaging database, but i had removed it to try the default android one [the one the pic]).
Ahhh okay

Hey,
Do you find the stock app slow? Maybe i just have to re flash.
Scott
My problem with the SE app is that when you send to multiple recipients there's no equivalent to Handcent's 'send as split threads' setting. Makes it all messy and confusing imho. Can't say I'm taken with Handcent's interface, but it's functionality and ease of use is the best I've found.
No problem with SMS either.

hey all... i find different problem with sony's stock sms app...it seems like i can't send sms with more than 160 characters, but with other sms apps works fine. i really like the stock sms, runs really smooth...
i called the local s.e. support but as always, they don't have a clue about the problem
any help?

Hm , that's weird. Coming from my mere experience in Graphics either something is wrong with the .9.png files (have you edited or tried to edit anything at all!?) or something is wrong with the dpi of the icons used...
On the other hand I could be totaly wrong!

You want more than 160 characters?
Here in Greece we 're begging for 160 characters! We currently have 75 because all our alphabet consists of 'special-UNICODE' characters.
And If I'm not mistaken 160 is the maximum you can get anyway!
So I guess your next choice is e-mail instead of SMS , or Google Talk!

well the max sms i wrote contained 13 sms-es, so i'm kinda obsessed (yea yea, i could write mms instead)..and sorry 160 is not the maximum, coz with handcent sms i can send more than 160 characters, but i don't like the program...
the s.e. support said that that we should try to hard reset it and then it should work..but first backup! ... will report later
*EDIT - tested --> everything's the same....

I have not edited that photo in anyway. That's what the default AOSP Mms.apk looks like when put into Sony's 2.1 theme. Its useless in that state.
If you look for better sms app try Pure Messenger...for me it's almost perfect
A Way?
Now with all the ports of custom ROMs out there, does anyone know how to port over the stock SMS app to a Sony Ericsson based ROM?
ive searched the forums and everything else to try and fix this but i cant find anything. they either dont work or they are for wm roms....so if you guys would be so kind to either help me out or send me in the right direction of how to fix the mms problem that a lot of people are having, that would be great...i really dont like receiving 27kb pictures becuse thats really just about three pixels and you cant see crap... thank you if you can help me
SAME HERE...I can recieve but the quality is poor. I need help bad this is my only problem. I've tried apn setting and radio... If anyone in the MS, AL, FL area could give your apns and maybe that would work
Wow same here! I have searched all over the net and have not found anything. I'm running Cyanogen 2.2 build of gingerbread 2.3. Everything works perfect except quality of mms pics, and caller ID pics. HELP!!!!
i found this
"This is due to tmobile not being able to identify the phone and because of such is limiting MMS size to 2kb or something? I am currently looking for a fix to this..have not seen anything. Thankfuly the pics you send are recieved in full resolution"
i know its not an answer.. but at least its a why.

Hey than you very much for posting that. Its so frustrating that this is happening. I hope there is a fix soon.
mms fix !!
hey i just downloaded an app from the android market that seems to fix the small mms picture rec problem , its called GO sms from " GO dev team" its a free app and actually piggybacks on the orig htc mms app, so you will actually run both apps at once (its the way they designed it) im running 2.2 froyo and the pictures are rec great!! you hav to do one thing though to make it run perfectly you hav to go into your phone settings and DISABLE the auto retrieve setting , thats right DISABLE, i had to play around with the settings foe 2 hours before i figured it out , and if you use the GO sms apps to download the rec mms pictures it works great!! hope this helps !
First I would like to appreciate the hard work Fusiondev has put into this custom built ROM & say thank you! Am loving it,so much better than stock.
I however have run into abit of an anomaly. The default messaging app seems to have persistence without the option of removing it. It also shares dialer app function of storing the simcard's pin no. thus if you attempt to kill it,it won't die but you'll instantly receive a notification requesting you to enter your pin code.
It would also have been nice if the edge/2G/3G connectivity notification wasn't tied to messaging notification sound settings, its a little odd when you have a voice notifying mp3 for messages then again you here it on edge/2G/3G connectivity notification. Can anyone confirm this issue coz I followed instructions to the letter when installing FusionIdeos 2.7.10. I used clockworkmod & didn't forget to wipe/factory reset before flashing. I also can't tell how many characters am typing in the messaging app.
Installing a third party messaging app like Go SMS Pro still fails to relieve the default messaging app of its persistence & causes message/notification duplication. Is there a fix for this issue?
Anyone pliz help! I re-installed FusionIdeos and all I get now is improved battery life, the prob still persists even after fresh download. I can't get into boatloader mode (something I later also discovered). It just displays a blue 2 @ the bottom right of the screen & I have to remove the battery to boot normally. Anyone help me.!
Have you tried uninstalling the default messenger app (using a system app uninstaller)?

Infact I'd love it if you could suggest a good app that does just that coz I have installed apps alone without games & all am left with is a measly 57MB. How would one untie the edge/2G/3G notification tone to the text messaging notification tone?

You could try this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.danesh.system.app.remover&hl=en (always works for me). You could just try changing the message tone.

Let me see, where do I start. Alright that app means serious biz. I played around with it and it cost me my keyboard hence wasnt able to post here until now. As of now I have been through CynogenMod 7.2 found that it cant surf the net, has no list of APN list and now am back. When I used system app remover to take out mms.apk (messaging app) it went with the system keyboard. It was extremely persistent in giving a "force close" error right until I rebooted the phone. So I flashed CynogenMod 7.2, realized it cant surf then looked for an online pc and had to download a third party keyboard.
What effectively happened was my system now has alot of free ram instead of free space, its very fluid in performance especially with Go laucher Ex effects all enabled. I really wish there could be some FusionIdeos update separating all this ties within the system. I believe the reason why this ROM is so big is because of the language packs coz the CynogenMod 7.2 ROM left me with 142MB to play with but this one does only 67MB as of now. Is there anyway this language packs can be removed? I still cannot boot into bootloader mode
Bump, anyone?
Bump!
I know there people who can help even @ this time of the year. I could use some help here.

Yes I am able to.
As for (power+red+vol.down), what happens is, the phone reboots then remains in a sort of an idling state where nothing is happening,I have been reading around and now it seems that is what they call bootloader mode,if that's it then yes. Probably its idle coz there isnt a zip to update to. Is that right? I also read in some forum that you can flash clockworkmod recovery using bootloader mode with a custom zip but only in Evo,havent found for u8150-D yet.
I believe I can get more freespace if I can remove the language packs that I dont need. Know how?
How can I remove the language packs that I dont need from this ROM?
Da#n!!
Bricked my phone again!
I may a noob going through puberty (brick-phone stage) trashed my recovery menu, trashed my rom and ram, but am not interested in building a dynasty of expensive brickhouses (deaded ZTE blades,U8800s,U8150s......)
My phone is up & running once again, so
Bump!
Considering the heading of this topic, I would say that my problem has been solved by simply removing the default messaging app, therefore this topic can be bagged and tagged. Link2SD also solved my space issues dramatically... even my launcher 10MB is auto linked 2 sd and works flawlessly!
I know there are quite a few similar threads, but since they are all fairly device specific, I though I'd try my luck with a new one.
I have a rooted LG Optimus L1 ii, running the stock 4.1 ROM that came with it, from which I uninstalled the stock messaging app after installing Hangouts. As you might have guessed I was unaware that the stock messaging app contains the basic messaging capabilities and all other apps rely on this, so now I'm trying to somehow regain the ability to send and receive SMS.
I have tried installing Handcent, GoSMS, and an app called "Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS", which claims to be the stock messaging app for JellyBean, all of it to no avail.
Therefore my question is, on a very fundamental level, what are the parts of the Android OS that are required for SMS and that I evidently destroyed? Can I get "generic" stock versions of the necessary apks or do they have to be specific to my phone model?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

1) It's not easy to decrypt stock LG firmware for that. Would be easier to download a stock based rom and grab it from there.
2) It's not that simple, you have to set permissions for system apps as well.
To OP: Go SMS should work fine. You just need to go into the advance settings and make sure it's checked off to be your standalone messaging system and there is an option to add your own MMS settings, which should be all you need.
Many other texting apps have custom settings for MMS options too. Hello SMS, Go SMS, ChompSMS, Handcent, Textra, Slide Messaging, and Evolve SMS all do if I remember right.
Edit: Sorry, can't read. I thought you were having MMS issues, not SMS. But yea, that's odd. You don't normally need the stock Messaging app anymore to send SMS.
You might have to reinstall your entire OS. Gotta make sure you know what system version you are on as they are slight differences between the carriers and regions the phone was sold from.

Pray tell how you would download the firmware and pull the messaging app from it? It helps to know what that entails before you suggest it. And the OP mentioned he did not delete it till after he installed Hangouts, which is not TOTALLY crazy. Hindsight 20/20, freezing it would have been better, but we're all learning. I typically uninstall the stock messaging app on any phone that I've used and have never had an issue like this.

I ended up going with the first suggestion in this thread and re-installed the original firmware. Slightly annoying, but there was no way around it with other apps and certainly trying to extract just the messaging app out of the stock ROM is more complicated and uncertain than this.
