Moto photon

You can add sound if u code the desc.txt in the bootanimation.zip. Check the system>media folder. Unzip and mod it.

If its that much of an issue take it back and get a phone with boot sound, simples

...since the Photons don't have a startup sound built in.

It's just a boot up sound? You rooted your phone. Gotta take the good with the bad.

No boot sound. That's just another reason to love it, though. After rooting my OG4G, I always removed the boot noises, I find them annoying.

The phone does bloody work right, it just hasn't any boot sound built in, full stop, end, does not, never has, probably can, but instead of moaning get off your butt, read development forum, read themes forum and you might, just might get the answer you are looking for.
As for getting out more no one has never moaned once to me that there phone has no boot sound, maybe your getting in with the wrong crowd, the oh **** we have no boot sound crowd

As stated, it does work properly. For the tenth time, there is no startup sound on a stock Photon. Aint one, not there, doesn't exist.

Ohhhhh sorry i was kind of confused with some of the amswers.....it took like 5 posts before someone came out and said it........strange because all these phones come out with bootup sounds.
Thanks
Moto photon

Also, the media sounds have to be up to hear a sound. Not ringer or notifications.... Thas how it works for some phones

much, much better. that was the best one I was able find... I started looking about 10 mins after you posted the bootani, I was trying to find a sound effect instead but everything sounded like crap and the vocal clip seemed like a cooler idea.
yeah I was just a little bored. I had just parked my big truck for the weekend, still had/have 3 cans of blue Monster whipping through my body and listening to Russ Martin Show on my backup phone (sucks living about 20-30 miles out of range of the station)
here it is in action
That's a nice... did you have to do any tweaking to get the audio timing to match or was it g2g without modding it? I may have to have it do a single repeat after a short pause.

Thanks for this. Very clever and it was my first custom boot animation installation.
The only change I made is dropping the level of the audio file about -6db from orig file you posted. I think the boot audio plays back at max volume of phone so there is certainly room for adjusting. I may drop it even lower if I can.
Thanks for the editing of everything.
BTW: I'm on CM6 latest RC build.

Hey TNP.... I just saw this... I was like Chris farley in tommy boy when I played your video of the working bootani... After it was over, I froze for a moment, then said outloud "that was.... AWESOME!!"
It is very cool, perfectly retro, and... well.. I'm at a loss... its just kubricktastic!!
Thanks to all who helped the OP too. Can't wait to install it, and annoy my friends.
How about an old star trek bootani? The graphic wouldn't be too hard... Some compilation of lights that they had...Then, you just need the audio for the computer: a teletype machine sound followed by "WORKING..." un that monotone female voice.
It wouldn't be as cool as the HAL 9000, but another great one to annoy friends with!

cool...if you have any ideas, ie., youtube links to something youre thinking of, let me know, give me a head start
I will think of something In fact, I use cinema 4d a lot, and I could make a static panel with the blinking lights (I would have to research what that would be ), and then the animation could render in a series of images. isn't that how the animation on the android is stored? I could do the images for the animation, and then you could put it together (i will also try and find the sound...i also use adobe audition, so I could tweak it).
I will think about it and send you a frame for comments (dont know if you were a big start trek fan...but its been awhile for me...somebody here has to be...so a qualified opinion could be made). what format are the bootani images in?
Now that I think about it, you must have had the 2001 dvd cued up for quite awhile as your animation is so spot-on! I am going to wreck my phone because I keep finding reasons to reboot to watch the startup. (I love HAL though...used to use a whole system of alerts in windows with HAL .wavs.)

Cool.. I am working on some ideas. I have two questions: a. What is the frame rate? And B. How do you begin to gauge how long the animation must be?. I know it loops, but if I do a 4 second animation, and the minimum boot animation cannot be less than 5 seconds, then I would want to use that extra second before it starts to loop.
Also, I am fascinated with your animation, and details (the blinking text, etc.(. Did you use after effects? That was the only way I was able to replicate that fast blinking effect (somewhat).

I may have a new one

Out of nowhere, weather animations on the clock widget stopped. As well as the sounds for the full screen weather animations. I triple checked everything and everything is as it should be. So I did a factory reset from both HBoot and within the settings...Same issue. I even noticed that when the phone is booting up through the Sprint 3D logo, no volume. I play movies or listen to ringtones and everything is fine.
I'm completely stumped!
my weather animations stopped working too... and i never had the sound on but i turned it on and rechecked the widget and no sound...
this is weird.. is it a bug affecting many people?
I honestly don't know? This is my 5th phone and the first to have this happen. I really hope I don't have to return this one. This is getting out of hand now
This kind of stuff happens just chill it will be back , had that he happen a couple times with the OG just the service provider
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Try pulling or swapping out your sd card. I believe it saves some data on there too.

Really? I can understand no data for the weather, I remember that happening on the OG Evo. But I have weather information, but no clouds going across the screen for example. Then no sound in the full screen weather. No sound during the Sprint 3D boot up. Very strange...I'll give a few hours to see what happens.

I swear this thing is playing tricks with me. lol I pulled the sd card, still no sound during boot up but my weather went from partly cloudy to clear, so I couldn't check for animations. Then I go into full screen weather demo and I have sound for each preview. Has to be something wrong still, right? Cause no sound during boot...HmMm

[Q] Echo/I hear myself when talking to a person. Defective Photon? or known issue?

Hi,
Just got my Photon, and it seem's when talking to someone i can hear myself talk. On speakerphone it's fine. I checked and the echo is on my end, the other person does not hear it. I went to another sprint store to test floor model and i also hear it. It's not horrible, but you can definitely tell that you hear yourself as your talking.
Does anyone else have this? I'm a little worried that this might be a known defect since i noticed this on another photon? Can anyone comment?
thanks

I've not had this issue or heard others complain, but I've had this happen on occasion with all past phones. I chalked it up to tower and signal strength and could never reproduce it intentionally. I'd sometimes have to ask the other person if I could call them back and it went away on the callback.
BTW - my fat finger hit thanks instead of quote, so you've got a head start on your thanks meter.
Usually (on any phone) when hearing yourself or echo; turn the volume down.
I've actually been hearing this too, but it's odd. Not a normal echo. Instead, it almost sounds like the phone is hollow and my voice is echoing back through the physical shell of the phone.

I saw that too in my google search, it didn't work. I even tried switching to Sprint Only under networks and still the same thing. I really hope this is just a defective phone, i cant imagine this skipped motorola's quality control.
This is intentional guys. It's not a defect or a hardware/software issue. It's designed to give you a richer sounding conversation. Other phones /manufacturers have been too cheap/lazy to do this, I'm glad moto did. There aren't any settings you can change to "fix" it because there isn't anything to fix. The swapping the phone won't do anything either.
The phone is working as it was designed to.

Richer sound? I call this a major quality control f*ckup. Nothing personal towards you, just my opinion. I should not hear any other noise then the intended one. I will be going back to my evo until they fix it.
In any event thanks to everyone for clarifying this.
It's an intentional design decision to fix the problem of people rudely (and unnecessarily) shouting into cell phones in public places. Think back to your childhood, when you made phone calls on a real non-cordless landline phone whose wires had a direct signal path from the handset all the way to the central office. Those phones echoed back a small amount of your voice from the earpiece, and that was exactly how people liked it because if it stopped, you knew beyond doubt that something happened to the phone line and you were now wasting your breath talking. It also kept you from shouting into the phone, because you would have annoyed yourself as well as the person unfortunate enough to be on the other end of the line.
I'm glad Motorola is now officially non-evil. HTC and Samsung have come a long way, but Motorola is a company that genuinely knows how to make a *telephone* and how to design radios that work really well. There's a reason why Motorola has survived into the 21st century despite hardcore competition from Japanese technology and cheap Chinese imports -- their best stuff is really, really good. One advantage of being a company that's been around for about a hundred years is the fact that they have engineers who've worked for them since the 70s and REALLY understand analog signal design. Motorola has guys working for them who understand radio and analog signals with the same passion that we understand digital electronics and programming. It makes a difference, and it shows
The echo has happened to every cell phone I have ever had. Have even had it on some land line calls. It is not an every time thing, just once in a while. I do not think there is anything you can do to prevent it.
When I start hearing my voice its usually because the other person hasme on speaker or they have their in call volume too loud.

I liked this feature immensely when I had my photon. Definitely made the conversations sound richer!
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Guys...... this feature is technically called "Sidetone" and I'm personally very glad this is in the Photon.
You ever been around some jackass who is basically yelling into his phone (which never actually helps the other party "hear" better)? I bet sidetone would have helped quiet him down a bit. It helps to keep your voice under control as well simply mimicking what you hear anyway when naturally talking out loud. Your head has builtin sidetone
Hello everyone,
I'm considering getting the Motorola Photon mainly for its sidetone and wondered if you still get the sidetone when using a headset thru the 3.5mm jack?
Thanks!

Got audio hissing?

For those of you having audio hissing issues I have a suggestion for you. I also noticed the annoying hissing lately and it really bothers me when I'm using my headphones. I tried going to settings, then sound, and adjusting the media effects and it made hissing worse. I found this really neat app that lets you choose preset audio eq defaults and its pure bad assery! No hissing and my headphones and speaker sounds are way better! I use the Latin preset and wow. I'm on the stock rom rooted and it works fine. My buddy is on photon CM7 and he said it works for him too (just like DSP). Try searching the market for equalizer (free).
So when using this to listen to music etc make sure you disable the photons stock eq settings.
I wanted to try the app, but the installation gets stuck at "installing" in Market. My photon is using the stock rom and is rooted. Reboot does not make any difference. This is the first time I had an app not installing for no reason.

Welcome to my world, buddy. The Photon is only great when it works, and this is only another reason why I'm getting a replacement device from Motorola.
@OP, try blowing out your headphone's port, and taking out your battery for 30 secs, sometimes that worked for me, but then it came back. If it bothers you a lot, call Motorola, and they will send you a free replacement, or send you to your nearest Sprint Customer Advantage Repair Center.
Thanks so much that worked great

I never had this issue, probally because the stock one was already disabled? Downloading now.
Edit: Here I go again, telling another man I love him!! I don't know if it was my stupidy (stock EQ disbled) or what, before if I was listening to music and I wanted to lower/higher the volume, I had to wake the phone up to do it. This app just cured that problem!!!! I set it for Hip-Hop and enabled Bass Booster, Nice!!!
Yeah I think I could get a replacement for the hissing but man I really don't want to start over lol. Also I know for a fact mine is brand new they would just give me a dumb refurb. As for now the eq app has eliminated the hissing.

Samsung III Volume

Hello All,
I wanted to buy an SIII but I went to the store and listened to the musice through my apple in the ear headphones. The volume is not quite loud enough for me. I checked the settings and noticed that the were all maxed. My Iphone4 is louder but I want the SIII any network version here in the UK.
I also looked at the HTC One Audio Beats which was perfect, but I really want the SIII.
The audio limiter rules in Europe go against me because of my disabiltiy and I just wish there was a way to make it louder to cover my hearing loss. I wear hearing aids but take them to and use headphones to listen to music.
Do I write off the SIII or is there someway around it?
Grateful to anyone who might be able to help.?

Since you're posting on XDA, I'm assuming you'll be rooting your phone. If so, then yes there is a mod that will greatly increase the phone's volumes for earpiece, speaker, headset, headphones and dock. Mod is located here. It is a popular mod for those of us who prefer a much louder phone, and this fix is even baked into some custom ROMs.

Well you first have to achieve root and flash clockworkmod ecovery.
From recovery you will be able ro install roms and tweaks like the "extremely loud volume hack" you need.
You can start from here for rooting ang flashing CWM

Change the kernel to either Siyah or franco.Kernel
They have the voodoo sound in it which can like boost the headphone/earphone volume by a lot.
Another way is to use a headphone amp but seriously using the above method is super loud already.

He'll need to flash Siyah...quite more easy and we all know it works...

You're 100% right
He just needs to flash Siyah and he'll be chilling at 100+ perceived decibel with just a fingerslide

Let me know if you want to stay stock but rooted .. GVM works well but .. in past Galaxies nothing compares to voodoo .. waiting for JB to install Siyah or Franco.

Mod has some limits but I wouldn't use max, might ruin speake. Actually I just boosted vol for headphones, speaker is fine for me but I don't see any harm boosting another 20-30% .. think limit is like 50 + 13% .. search for thread MOD GVM in S3 General Q

Welcome to the S3
Hello all again....
Well I got my S3 today and wow what a great phone!... The ear volume is that loud that I can actually hear with my hearing aids in, I am totally made up with it. :good:
The only thing is the ringer sound. Before I consider root it, does anyone know where I can get a Old Style Telephone ring ring tone from? Preferably volume maxed?
I cannot hear the supplied tone because of their frequency and the old style ring ring always seems to work best.
I am happy to pay for the ringtone.
Very happy with you guys, thanks for helping me out. Guess I just have to leave all my bought itune songs in the bin
All the best
Mik
