GTalk Video Chat - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone actually use GTalk video chat. My previous phone was an iPhone 4 and Facetime worked flawless on Wi-Fi and was quite useable over 3G. I have tried using GTalk video chat a couple times with different people and find it so bad it is unbearable. Video quality on the front facing camera seems horrible which doesn't bother me that much but for being such low quality I would think there would at least be no lag. But that isn't the case either. Audio and video are almost never synced and video is choppy as well. One other thing that bugs me, and I am not sure if this is Atrix only, it why on earth would it use the tiny little ambiance mic on the back of the phone instead of the microphone that is made for talking. I was trying to chat with a buddy of mine and once I took the battery cover off he said he could hear me ten times better.
This is more of a rant than a question, I guess I am just checking to see if I am the only one who thinks it's so horrible or did Facetime just ruin the GTalk experience for me.

Ive never used Talk, but Tango works fine for me and its cross-platform.

Just tried Tango. Audio cut out after about 30 seconds.

Oh well. I usually switch back and forth between an Android device and an iPhone every 6 months or so. I guess I'll get the iPhone 5 when it comes out and hope it works better with the devices that are out next spring.
The only reason I switched to the Atrix was because of the front facing camera and getting anything that worked well with it has been a debacle in my opinion.

Tango also
With our sloooow upload speeds - there really isnt an app that works well enough to video call due to the slow upload - my gf has the HTC Thunderbolt and we've tried Tango, Fring, Qik.... Tango showed the best results, but the video was very very laggy and the audio was piss poor to say the least....
tango on wifi is fine.
So the version on the market goday is already the updated one?

something to bring to the table which is a huge factor for me is this...
my wifes iPhone 4 on AT&T is jailbroke and has the 3G hack to allow to facetime, etc over 3G and not just on WiFi. obviously we can use Tango or Fring on 3G. with this said, every time i connect to her using Tango, i get a Poor Connection error, i can see her and she sees me. i can hear her but she can not hear me.
is this connection related or what?
also, i tried Tango from my Atrix to a friends Xoom with the same results.
tried Tango from her iPhone to his Xoom and it was fine.
Tango on the Atrix zooms a lot. looking at myself in the box, i can see my whole face with a little room outside my face in the box, showing the backround. this is on my phone. from the other phone (Xoom or iPhone or Evo) it zooms almost to just my eyes and mouth.
any ideas?

It's the poor upload speed on the Atrix. Since we're capped at 300kbps that means, in effect, we're capped at around 37.5Kb/s. Normally you'll connect at 100-150kbps, which is much lower (think about 12Kb/s to 17Kb/s). None of those are acceptable for audio and video calls
I sideloaded the beta last night. Tried camera and voice with the fring test call. worked fine!

from Atrix to what?
As i said, from atrix to the fring test call bot. Using that you will hear the audio, do a small recording so you can hear your own voice transmitted and check video as well. Everything works

How is the mic and call quality of the Galaxy SII??

We know Galaxy S I has pretty sub-par call & mic recording quality.
Could someone give us a review?
Thanks!

Call quality was more than pleasing for a phone so slim: we were able to comfortably conduct speakerphone chats without our voice being scrunched up at the other end

Nice find, those guys really loved the phone. I know I'm gonna pick one up but the cost here in the US ($700 cheapest I've seen), and dealing with grey market phones is making it hard to pull the trigger. Definitely gonna get one just how close to launch day I will is the question now .
Have been using SGS2 for about a month. Really good sound quality for both mic and speaker. Also, reception is very good. I recommend this phone whole heartedly.
Good we got an answer on a 3/4-month old threat! Anyways this is still helpful for anyone planning to get the phone.
Also, call quality between to SGS2's is superb! Crystal clear audio, in a certain way .
top notch no complaints whatsoever
Very poor call quality on my Galaxy S2. People to whom I call complain to not hearing me properly ROM KG1 stock
Wish the speaker was more louder
I was in the middle of woods with zero bars and still managed to make a call other party heard me clearly and no interruptions , i heard them clearly also.
On AT&T network ,
KG2 custom rom. with KG6 modem and kernel.
KG5 fixed poor call quality

The KG5 Modem is really good, but it seems to me that it is not battery friendly!?
The second mic makes your voice even in very loud environment clearly hearable!
I i think the call-loudspeaker is loud enough!
I don't have battery drain issue at all. Althow I backwd up software and did a reset. I rhink reset is mandatory to be sure that everything will be fine afterwards.

Youtube Audio and Video out of sync (Brand New Rezound)...

Hey,
I just picked up a new HTC Rezound from Amazon and it arrived today. It's crazy but I'm noticing the same Audio/Video out of sync problem with Youtube that I did w/ my HTC Droid Incredible. To be fair I do a lot of video editing so perhaps I'm more perceptive to this than some but it's clearly off by at least .250sec (Video ahead of audio). This is happening in both the youtube app and flash through the stock browser.
When I first got my Incredible two years ago I had the same problem. After rooting and using different roms/kernels it became less noticeable w/ certain combinations. However I became content with not really using my phone to watch videos just for fun. Having a phone that could play youtube properly was one of the main things I was excited about w/ this upgrade to the Rezound. Turns out it's clearly worse than my Incredible rooted w/ OMFGB and Chad's Kernel.
This is occurring right after taking it out of the box and using WIFI. Haven't even activated the phone yet as Verizon needs confirmation from a family member who's in FL (and asleep - I'm in CA). I'm surprised I can't find one other thread about this.
Anyone else notice this at all? I don't see how this could be a "bad phone" issue. I do plan on rooting so perhaps after removing the bloatware it'll be better. Really hope someone can reassure me......
-Jay

How long have you had your Rezound? Has it worked fine w Youtube before? Perhaps they're having an issue (hopefully).
I'm a big youtuber....
I noticed it before but thought it was the. Video or my connection. I've been watching "Drunk History" since my last post and all but one episode was synced properly. Go check it out...... If anything you'll laugh your ass off a little.
So for me it's not consistent.
I was using Wifi by the way.

Possible jb patch in the works

Just returned from taking care of my bill at a corporate sprint store in Detroit Michigan area, and brought up concerns about issues since jb was released. Before I was able to tell my personal issues since the update the couple techs that were at the front door greeting/mingling with customers, told me they have been notified that a patch is being worked on for the Bluetooth, navigation, proximity sensor, wifi and various glitches others have been reporting. This was all said before I even mentioned those issues that myself and others on this forum have brought up. They've even been instructed to stop doing replacement handsets for people with the issues. So to me it sounds like the issues have been noticed/verified finally and HTC/sprint may be releasing something soon. Sounds legit considering the tech's themselves named off the issues and seemed to know a bit about the problems without me saying anything. Figured I'd pass on this tidbit of info and hopefully it becomes a reality.
Update 01/11 called HTC and they have a bulletin that's been sent out that proximity sensor was specifically being worked on (news for stock users at least)..the nav issue the guy said wasn't a for sure thing because it might be a google dropping the ball thing/capatability issue

Out of curiousity, I know I started another thread on the following topic, but did you just recently get your phone? Like maybe in the last 3 months or so? Trying to find a pattern to the issues and handset batch.

I have to flash back to an ics rom then back to jelly bean while wiping as little as possible just to get mhl-hdmi adapter to work. And sometimes at that. Most of the time I have to reset the phone 3 times, unplug, plug in cable to phone. It just blows balls! I am about to just go back to ics and stay there. Jelly bean or at least this iteration of it sucks. Not to mention the worse battery life? Why are we excited about jb anyway? It looks good and sounds nice, but it is just like its abbreviation (jb) jailbait!
Does anyone else agree with me or are you all on the google strain of bud? Here's my list of issues over ics: Battery hog! Mhl-hdmi previously mentioned, New usb connection manager screwed my car audio. Have to update busybox everytime I reset just so root explorer displays remaining space in sd card.
I will quit my rant now though I guess. No one at sprint or htc or most the people here even give a rats **** about these issues because i obviously must be a noob who cant wipe and flash a rom properly or my phone has issues so I must be retarded or something. Tired of those attitudes on xda. But thats another topic. Good day to u all!
I updated to JB and I don't have any of the issues you are talking about. After hearing some of your experiences I think I will wait until a patch comes out to update my wife's phone.
I like JB on this phone. Google now is a welcome feature. Initially I experienced shorter battery life, but after adjusting the settings in Google Now I would say my battery life went back to normal or possibly even better than before.
The one thing I don't like about JB is the in scrolling background, but all the pluses more than make up for it.

I turned off any cards that would frequently update.
Ex. Traffic, weather and nearby places
I can't say for sure that these consume extra battery, but ever since adjusting the settings my battery has been performing well.
It's currently at 50% after 12h 36m off the charger with medium use.
I wish they would just fix this dam Proximity Sensor. I hate my calls hanging up when it touches my face and how it wont show the screen when I wish to hang up.
The CM10 proximity fix woked for me.
[MOD] [CM10] Proximity Sensor Fix
I tested using Proximity Sensor Finder before and after. Before nothing happened, after it went from 9 to 0 when covered.
I've seen all those issues the MeanBean Thread.
All 4.1 JB Devices Broke Bluetooth Voice Dial. As far I know only 4.2 fixes it.
I'd be really impressed if Sprint released 4.2 let alone any update.
I posted a [MOD] in the development section to get Cyberon to be the Default when you click the bluetooth button and it works great, better than it ever has and no longer relies on the Network. And I'm nolonger forced to keep my contacts in gmail. I prefer keep them only in my work's ExchangeMail account.
Nav has worked for me so far but I have not used it too heavily.
As far as Bluetooth Reliability during a Call JB is MUCH better. ICS would drop bluetooth headset as I passed WIFI HotSpots.
WIFI has been an issue on this device since day 1. JB release doesn't seem much better or worse, but it does seem different, but usable for me. I've had it get stuck once and would not let go of WIFI as I drove away, which jams the whole phone up until you shut WIFI off.
The Proximity Sensor seems to be a calibration issue. My guess is the OTA update might have accindentally wiped each devices calibration or something. You can recalibrate it. The default cal works for people. I have not had the issue or it's not a big enough issue for me to care.
Well I can verify after getting a couple refurbs because of the jb updates/roms having nav crashes (first refurb to replace my new launch date phone being a launch date activated one with nav crashes and faulty strip in touchscreen), I finally have one that the navigation works flawlessly on so far with several jb Roms I tried....the refurb date on this phone was in December with no usage/data etc....and I was the first to activate the phone (maybe damaged casing on phone etc and never was sold)...so the pattern of newer built elte's seems to be a pattern...at least for me...it was a battle to get a working phone but paid off in the end...

[Q] Little Annoying HOX+ Issues

OK so I've had my HOX+ for about a month having moved on from the Apple empire and for the most part I love the phone. There are a few annoying things I've noticed and after much time searching forums, contacting HTC and all that jazz haven't found a good answer yet. So I figured I'd just try asking and getting some opinions here. My disclaimer is that I'm still 100% stock and not quite ready to dive into root and custom ROMs yet
Issue #1 - that damn BT call audio issue - Has anyone found a fix for the BT issue so everyone I talk to in my car doesn't sound like they are talking with their phone in their mouth? I spent a week working with HTC on this and all I ever got was the standard "we're sorry to hear about your issue, working to resolve, blah blah blah"
Issue #2 - I've recently noticed a issue with audio pausing and the phone being slow to respond from unlock when playing music. PowerAmp seems to be the worst culprit but I've noticed this a little with Double Twist also. I've tweaked my audio settings in PA to use the "huge" buffer and highest thread priority. Turning Beats off didn't seem to help either.
Any feedback welcome, thanks.
Gonna have to root to fix Bluetooth audio issues or wait for a ota threw your service provider

For the audio issue i also do have that problem.. little minor pauses.. but quite annoying.. tried different music players but there was no difference.. I also have a bigger problem actually.. the headphones output are not equal.. one is higher than the other.. tried different headphones.. but na.. nothing has changed..

Yeah that sounds almost exactly like my problem, little minor pauses most of the time (which to me is kind of annoying) and every so often a longer pause of like 4-10 seconds. I ended up having my phone go into a sleep of death last night so I rebooted and also ended up removing the Double Twist widget I had up when I was checking out different players. Today the pause issue seemed better but still not 100% so I'm starting to suspect something (widget or otherwise) I'm running is maxing out the CPU or something.
Haven't noticed any balance issue though, what player are you using? I know in PowerAmp and I'd imagine others there is a balance control...could just be off a bit or if nothing else you might try adjusting it to compensate till you find a solution.
Stock based and aosp roms have Bluetooth fixes.
You can't fix anything yourself unless u root, otherwise wait for a carrier update that may never come.
Will also fix any slow performance issues you might be having, even more so with a custom kernel.
Never experienced issues with Bluetooth myself tho.

I am having the same audio issue. I'm using N7 player. It sucks. I thought it was just the player but then It started happening on pandora too. does this quick pause only happen on AUX? I haven't tested to see what happens with bluetooth audio streaming. Only happens/has been tested happening with AUX.
This happens on the latest viper rom for one x+ att
We should fix this!
use Zplayer

I have had same problems with music, tried Zplayer which solved the issues... my phone is on stock rom ...
Had a chance to do some heads down work and played music for the better part of 4 hours. The pause issue is still there with Double Twist, but nowhere near as bad when I was running stock. Very minor now bit still apparent. My PowerAmp trial ran out so I can't test it. Might try Player Pro even though I'm not crazy about it.

I have noticed minor pauses in music at the same spot when walking down my road towards my house. Due to it happening in roughly the same spot, I have put this down to my home WiFi connecting and/or my Vodafone Sure Signal signal booster being picked up as the primary network connection for calls etc.
I have no idea if my thoughts are correct, but is this something anyone else has tried or even thought about? My phone is currently fubar'd so I can't test it atm.
I hv tried few ROMs and concluded that its the stock kernel's processor settings on sleep mode, I installed cm 10.1 with blade kernel and changed minimum CPU frequency at bit higher level and music plays perfectly fine... I hope this could help others.

Yes, I have found that the audio pause issue seems to be related to connecting to a wifi spot. It still happens when wifi is turned off though, so although they are related, it's not the cause.
I definitely think it has to do with the clockspeed of the device when it is idling.
I notice the audio pauses when,
The screen is left on and the orientation changes
pause frequency changes depending on the player
When connecting to a wifi access point/scanning for one
Someone take this information and e-mail HTC. I was going to call them, but I don't have the time to deal with all of this stuff right now. College finals are next week.
EDIT: managed to give HTC a call. They suggested poweramp and said that they were working on a proper fix. I don't have the time to test to see if power amp solves the issue just now, but it's always good to hear other people's experiences/devices specs. So let me know your device specs and what you know about this issue!
