Hi,bro
each n every question's answer is on google than why is this section made for

1. I'm not your "bro".
2. XDA Developers has its own search engine. The information is out there, but you have to search for it. I provided you a link anyway despite you not searching for it first, and I get what you posted in return. But tell me this: how do you expect to learn anything if things are handed to you on a silver platter? I provided you the links, but while there are hundreds of people on this forum that can help you out, in the end you still need to learn to do it on your own. Better that you start now, rather than later.
3. Watch this handy video. It explains certain site rules in a manner that anyone can understand, especially the site rule about searching on the forums before you post.
4. 293 posts at the time I write this versus your 5. I believe I know just a little bit more about the Streak than you, and I am the person who provided you with a link to start with. You know, the link that provided you with guides on how to do what you wanted to do?
5. There are few professionals here. Most of the people on these forums are simply end users who have the know-how to make their Streaks that much better. Most of your responses are not going to be from professionals, and if you're expecting professionals, then this site is not for you.
Any questions?
If you want a "professional" answer call Dell. Ok I'll wait for you to get back with that answer......................................................................................................................
On second thought I don't have that kind of time.
OR you could actually read the info at the link provided. Of course most of that info is from amateurs, but those amateurs use the Streak everyday.
I called to dell they said that I have to give the streak to dell serviec center they will update it,but I can't give b'coz service center is 700 km away my home
Plzzzz help me if u can

All the links you need were already provided by Strephon. If you can't learn how to do it from there, you're better off not even trying. You'll brick your phone.

You didn't hurt me. You pissed me off by expecting the answers to be spoonfed to you, and then went running to another user on a totally unrelated thread begging for help because you didn't want to take the time to click on the link that I provided you.
I am not here to provide one on one tech support. If you want that, I charge for the privilege.
The "right links" you want are in the link I provided back in the second post of this thread. Click on it, start clicking on the links in the page that pops up, and LEARN.

Hello All,
I was directed to this site by my "Verizon guy". I have a new xv6800. Dudes/dudettes, this phone is awesome. I was told that you could upgrade to different software and the phone would actually close apps, use less battery, have louder soundes, etc. I was told to look fo Dutty's Rom, but I guess this doesn't exist for this phone yet. I was wondering a few things. One could someone spend the time to "hold my hand" and walk me through upgrading...two reasons. One I don't want to kill my phone and two from reading other posts, it seems like you all are very knowledgeable. I may be able to offer money if this would motivate someone. (I know it may take time and effort). I have been using google and other threads to try and install bootloaders, etc but with no luck. I hope that someone is willing to help. This thread would also become a good step-by-step guide for all noobs.
Thank You All in Advance

Without the fundamental knowledge you will tank your phone. The questions you ask before you read are on a different level than those after you finish the wiki.
You may have a slightly different situation that may not be correctly answered by the first person that responds to your thread.
Read and then ask and we will be there for you.
i have installed a Froyo rom on my vibrant and i was wondering how i go back to stock?
It never ceases to amaze me that people don't have a crystal clear understanding of what they are doing before they go flashing custom ROMS. Why would you even think about putting on a specific ROM unless you knew how to revert back if it dorked up?

We help those who first help themselves. 30 seconds in the development forum would get him the answers he needs. Posting a request for help without first attempting to find an answer on your own is extremely lazy. They're just asking the regulars to do all the heavy lifting for them. "Yeah, I flashed a ROM after doing almost no research and I don't like it. It looks like there's 27 different posts with step by step instructions on how to reverse it, but it's so much easier to just start a 28th post and ask for help. Also, could one of y'all take a plane flight to my hovel in Bangkok where I live and work Odin for me? I'll be in the tub eating takeout food. When you're done, it'd be great if you could come on up the stairs and feed me, and perhaps do something with these curtains?"
The reason you have trouble finding useful information is because your search results get clogged up with people starting threads asking questions answered in other threads. Sometimes in threads on the same page as the one their making. Sometimes with titles that are nearly identical to theirs. These people get flamed because they're part of the problem, not the solution, and after the 9,000th time you see a new thread titled "Kies broke my phone" or "How do I get into recovery?" or "What bootloader do I need for CM7?", you start to get a little batty.
can anybody make a video with all the steps to install a rom on the dell streak with the fastboot and everything some of us just dont get it
If I can follow the very clear instructions on this forum on how to install a custom rom and not have a problem with it... it can't be that hard.
So if you find that you're still unsure on how to do it and need a video, maybe its something you shouldn't be attempting in the first place....
Theres a video for every other phone why cant there be one for the streak

Can you post the link so I kno where to go to do it

Firstly you need to root your streak (i used superoneclick), then you will need to put your streak into fastboot mode to install clockworkmod recovery or streakmod
Once thats done you will need to check what baseband you're on and what version of android you're on (i was on bb 319 and stock Dell 2.2) which means that i could flash DJ Steve's 1.8.1 custom rom straight over mine and it worked straight away. Now i have read that certain basebands have caused problems.
The you need to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003525 and then follow instructions there and that should be about it.
There are plenty of threads on here explaining in fine detail every step that you need to do, some people have gone to a lot of trouble writing tutorials ... all you need to do is have a quick search.
All the info is there you just need to look for it.....
Trust me it isn't that hard cos if I can do it without any trouble, I'm sure most people can.
i can asure you that when english is not your native language, it's not that easy.
i did it whit my old htc artemis, but i'm still holding it off with my streak. It's working great now with 2.2 and i'm afraid to brick it. The only thing i've done is rooting it for the blinking leds for sms/mms notification. It was a must for me.

I not doubting that it can be very difficult when english isn't your native language, but judging by the grammar and spelling I'm guessing that English is their native language or they are very competent, in which case it shouldn't be that hard.
But the point I'm trying to make is that it seems to be that the poster seems too lazy to search and find the answers on how to do what they want, I mean most people on here will spend the time and read through countless threads to find out exactly what they need to know. I know that the people who write the tutorials put a lot of time and effort into making them easy to follow ... hey if I can do it....
So if I go back to my earlier comment if you can't follow the comprehensive tutorials on here, maybe its something you shouldn't be attempting anyway... just my opinion...

Actually, it can be a real pain in the rump. When I did the recovery install of 322 I spent three nights trying to get it to work. I had issues with rooting, had to use the 1.5.5 version of superoneclick and run it while my phone was restarting to get it to work.
Then when trying to restore from the recovery files I got stuck at the MD5 checksum thing. That was a real pain. It turned out that the tool you use to overwrite/rewrite the checksum was missing from my streak.
I installed a new version of the tool (who's name I'm forgetting now) to make it work.
So yes it can be very difficult. I have programing knowledge but the commands are Linux based and may actually be Japanese.
It'd be awesome if there were a single guide/how to video to follow.
Search before you submit
You ask for a single guide and or video, than use the following link to find it: www.google.com, there are multiple very good single guides how to go through the steps to install a custom ROM. In fact there is a certain web page by DJ_Steve that actually has a link in it that guides through installing his custom ROM, there is also a video, but hey if you want to have your cake and eat too, I guess asking for it to be re-created just for you isn’t that selfish.......
Am almost sure that if you search within XDA for DJ_Steve and click on the link in his signature block might even take you to his web page, but asking for someone to create a video for you isn't that selfish.....

Lol, and I used google extensively in my search for instructions to do a recovery install on my streak. I pulled some parts from DJ Steve's many postings and website, others from android forums in their Dell Streak sections, and still others from just android and linux forums.
It took all of that and raw determination for me to get my streak to 2.2.2.
Don't take offense to someone asking a question.
If you know there is a link for it share it with the person. Maybe that would take you 2 minutes but without the person knowing the correct keywords they may spend hours searching.
I just feel like a video could avoid alot of bricked phones iphone people always making videos whether its easy r hard. All im saying is a video would help alot of us if I knew how to do it I would have been made a video

This is my point... Most people will spend the time and search for the info they need, it's really not that hard on here and google. You did it..... And you didn't expect anyone else to do all the work for you.
I know I spent hours looking at various threads and it was only then was I brave enough to attempt to put a custom rom on my streak, and it was the best decision I ever made.
@deedomond
Just go to http://streakdroid.com and then go to guides, there is a comprehensive guide on every step of the process on there. Or if you don't want to flash a custom rom, or maybe update to a newer stock rom, there is plenty of guides on here telling you how to do it... All you have to do is spend a little time, they are not that hard to find.

Can someone help me Do the performance Fix for stock 2.2.2 On 351 , i have streakmod , i tried getting the file 3.1.5 and did install it , but my dell goes into bootloop wen i restrt , plz can anyone guide Me
Well, if you actually had read the thread where you pulled the performance fix from you would have known that the performance mods only work on ROMs 309, 315, and 318. It's absolutely no surprise that your Streak bootloops when you install the performance mod, since you're replacing a newer kernel with an older one. There are no performance mods for any ROM newer than 318, so do not install the performance mod.

Man, u wrote all that , u should hve said yes or no , can anyone tell me can I flash stuff in stock rom , and frm which roms I can come bck to stock through the recovery image that I made using streakmod

Answering your last question first, a nandroid backup will restore the Streak to the way it was the moment you did the backup, with the exception of the baseband and amss. Those two things are only restored with an official Dell ROM. So it should not matter what ROM you switch to, though I recommend caution if you go use StreakDroid 2.x.
What stuff are you looking to flash in a stock ROM? If you have StreakMod as your recovery you can flash from it, and are in fact supposed to when rooting the Streak, which I noted in your other thread. So it is possible to add stuff to a stock ROM using StreakMod.
Finally, addressing your comment which I believe was directed at me, virtually everything you have asked has been addressed in other threads, which is why in your other thread (already linked) I gave you a link to the sticky and told you to read up. I'm not here to hold your damn hand.
P.S. Proper English please? "You", not "u". "Please", not "plz". Typing like that shows us that you're in a hurry to do something that requires some time and effort. Not to mention it's f**king more difficult to read than if you spelled it out like you were taught in grade school.

He's just like another noob I dealt with recently. He wanted to upgrade his Streak from 2.2 to 2.2.2. So, like a good egg I provide him the link to the sticky and mention to him to use the search engine next time. The response was essentially this:
"why is this section here if all you're going to tell me is to google stuff?"
Then as a follow up, the noob comments that he's looking for a "professional's answer". After I got a laugh out of that last one and explaining to him exactly how things work around here, he tries to apologize for "hurting" me and finishes up with this gem:
"I want to update my Dell and nothing more. If you can help me or want to help me then give me the right links." (emphasis mine)
While my reply was rather civil in that I told him if he wanted one on one tech support I charge for it, what annoyed me almost as much as his original reply to my posting the sticky was him begging for "the right links". Begging for the right links isn't going to change the fact the links are in the sticky! It's no wonder that developers are leaving this site in droves when they see drivel like what is in this thread from people who don't want to take the time and energy to learn about their damn devices so they can actually do the work themselves!

Yeah I remember reading through that, I LMAO at that one... and you are right, devs are leaving XDA in droves, not just from the Streak but from all the device threads because the moderators are more concerned with the language we use to address the noobies than doing THEIR job as moderators and keeping the newbies in line, we the experienced users don't need any moderation, it's the noobs that need the guidance and should be repremanded for posting NEW threads about worn out subjects...

Even I occasionally make boneheaded posts, such as asking what the Dell Settings Provider.apk actually does and whether I actually needed it. No one answered the thread, I believe because it was thought to be an obvious question that didn't need an answer. So I experimented and deleted the file. I didn't have any issues, which is a good thing. I did however search before I made the post and did not find anything either.
We did not have the benefit of the sticky nor The Manii's list of safe to remove apps to make it easier on the noobs. There is nothing wrong with noobs asking questions, but you know full well that we're getting too many noobs lately running to the site for help after doing something wrong instead of searching for the answer before posting. That kind of BS needs to stop.
To the OP: keep asking questions, but make sure you use the XDA-Developers search engine instead of Google to find things before you post. It works better.
I freely admit that I'm a Newbie when it comes to rooting; this post is to ask if anyone can please recommend a good source of reading matter to help me get started rooting my Streak?

There are several threads and even a sticky you'd have to be blind or flat lazy to miss to not have seen it with ALL the info you need
Please note the word "Newbie". I have indeed found many threads and pages, all of which dive into the subject as if it's second nature. I don't even know what a "Sticky" IS! I'm an intelligent person, PC literate, perfectly capable of rooting a phone, I'm sure. But I have utterly no experience of doing so. I'm sure there are many people in my position, and I'm simply looking for a user-friendly starting point. Thanks.

Hey - I was lost when I first started to flash my first rom. I found a number of different sources which all helped in their own little way. I'll gladly talk you through each step. Have you rooted your phone yet? There is an excellent video on (youtube.com/watch?v=60z9YBv9Ksw) youtube to help you along - visit the unlockr's how to's also (//theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/dell-streak-how-tos/)
Many thanks thecelticchimp. I'm gonna check the links you've kindly given and if there's enough there to give me a basic grounding then I'll bite the bullet and do the deed this evening.
read the top 5 or 6 threads

Oh dear, foiled at the first hurdle! My phone's build number is 15609. Theunlockr.com sends me to
http://android.modaco.com/topic/316229-19aug-streak-21-downloads-how-tos-rom-superboot-recovery/
where I can't find any reference to that build number, therefore can't find the necessary Superboot files.
Help? ... !
Your first problem is trying to use Superboot. You don't need to, and it's not recommended to use it in any event. All you need to know is how to use Fastboot properly.
The second problem is that you're trying to do this cold. For a bit of an assist, try looking in the apparently little known Wiki on the site here. There is a flashing guide for the Dell Streak there and one very critical piece of advice on it that is a must read, though duplicated on some of the threads.
I am going to recommend that you spend some time reading up before attempting to flash the Streak, or you will very likely end up with a nice, shiny, and very expensive paperweight.
OK, for the moment I'm going to be content with a factory reset and no root.
I think if one of you experts out there fancies a little project it would be to write exactly what the sarcastic "No spoonfeeding here" signature doesn't want; a "Rooting for beginners" guide.
I'm told I don't need to use Superboot, but I thought Superboot WAS rooting. Truth be told all I wanted to do was to be able to uninstall unwanted pre-loaded software on my Streak, not much more than that.
Despite kind people's encouraging words that rooting is now very straightforward, Strephon's timely warning reminds me that it isn't. I think I'll take the easy way out and wait until someone IS prepared to spoon feed me!
Sticky posts are set up so that they never disappear from page 1 of the forum you are reading. They are also so that critical information, such as how to root the streak without bricking it, is easy to find. Rooting the Streak is quite easy; far easier than other devices. Yet it's still possible to brick it if you do not read up on what you're supposed to be doing.
If you were truly a noob I'd have given you a link. However, you have been with the site a while, and thus you should by now know the rules, especially rule 1: search before you post. Thus, no spoonfeeding for you. Use the search engine and the stickies. That is why we have them.
Duly ticked off! Many thanks for the help and advice, I'll start reading...
Cheers,
Aidan
