[Q] Edit displayed sim phone number - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently switched from O2 to Three and had my phone number transferred. Problem is that after the old number was transferred, the sim card still displays (setting>about phone>status) the number that came with it when I got the new sim from Three. Is there any way to edit the sim so that it shows the number that I am currently using?

Sim Card reader might . Google it .

Insert your sim into a dumb phone which has the option of adding your own number, edit your own number into that phone, put it back in SII and voila, SII will show whatever number you added.

I was hoping to find a away to natively do it in SGS2 itself, but I guess that's the only workaround.
Thanks for the help. I'll ask my friends and see if they have a BB or other phone that might be able to do it.

[Q] My Telephonenumber in S2

When I look in Settings> (i) About the phone> Status> My Telephonenumber, there is a wrong number. I probarly entered this in the first setup.
Is there a way to change this ''My Telephonenumber'' and how can I do this (without restoring factory defaults)...
You don't enter that number - it gets it off the SIM. I'd say your SIM is faulty, or (if it's a new one) you've got the wrong number somewhere else.
Is it a new number with this phone?
I don't think you need to care about this. In my phone it is "unknown". A factory restore wil likely not change the number.

I remember now what I did:
- my previous phone was an iPhone (shame on me...).
- because I did sell this iPhone to someone else, I did a reset and erased all contents, to make sure all mu personal data would be cleared. Then I connected the empty iPhone to iTunes (like Kies voor Samsung) and had to enter something for phonenumber. Because I didn't want my real number to show up in that iPhone, I entered a fictitious number. Now I understand that the number I entered at that moment, has been stored/written to my SIM, because I use the SIM of my iPhone in this Samsung S2.
Ans in Kies I cannot find any option to change this.
There's a few threads around xda about this which I stumbled on while trying to fix the same problem.
They all suggest putting the sim in a "dumbphone" and changing it there. I used an old Sony Ericsson to do mine and now it shows correctly.
Yes,find an old phone (sony e) works and you can enter your number there. Iys under the address book and advanced. Did it to mine last week.

I have only 3 other phones other than SGS2.Nokia N900,Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Samsung SGH-J800
Then check if any of them supports that option. Android can't detect sim number by default.

and One more Question SGS2 shows once every 1-4hrs saying Refreshing Sim (Only with Vodafone when I use my different Sim it says nothing)
Can any one Help with my 2/1 questions
Never encountered this sim refreshing on my device, most likely a faulty sim card. As to your first question, i don't really know how can someone in here help you more than providing the right info. I told you what you need to do. Just get/borrow a phone which has this option , set your number and it will work. Guess no one in here could give you a phone, so you have to look for it in real life.

You can change phone number in sim card details using cyanogenmod, in dialer settings menu.

My Phone Number - Unknown

Hey guys,
After switching to Giffgaff, my phone number says unknown in 'about phone'
How can I fix this?
Although not important, as everything works as it should - its just very annoying to see 'unknown'
Mine also says this, but functions perfectly well. I'm on Vodafone.
I'm not particular bothered so never posted about it, but if there is a solution, I wouldn't say no.
Giffgaff is unknown as it has no CSC entries is my guess .
Does not even work with a O2 CSC .

The orange sim I came from displayed my phone number perfectly.
I wonder if pulsar knows a fix, he's a giffgaffer aswell. Hmm
put your sim card in a phone like something old i did it in a samsung tocco and you can edit the sim card number put it back in your sgs2 and it will appear then, it worked for me.
Neither does mine but i cant say it's ever bothered me although my Irish number does show.
screenshot of my Giff Gaff
I've never had the phone number in "about phone", so for me it isn't a problem, but i'd be curious to know why.
Operator H3g Italy
Likewise but not an issue as it's in my head.

Even for me is not a problem but just a curiosity
Try this
Go to contacts, then contacts at the top of the slide bar, then push the menu key.
You will now see options. Go to my profile, put you mobile number there etc. It should now show after a reboot.

Thanks, but didn't work.
Still shows as unknown.
I have a feeling this might be network dependent. Mine's never been displayed and it's not an issue. As long as your IMEI is OK you shouldn't have any dramas.
ive already told you how to do it

I don't know why everyone else keeps posting. This is the commonly accepted answer, and the one I used too (though I used an old Sony Ericsson).
And in the time I took to make this message, I see E_Goldstein has stated the same .

Thanks, I missed your message as someone moved my thread. Lol
It just so happens, that my dad uses a crappy Samsung tocco mini, I tried your suggestion....
IT WORKED! (+1 given)
The number I typed in, is the number that's showing.
So, rather than reading my number (which it isn't doing), its showing whatever I typed on the Samsung tocco as my own number.
But not bothered about that, as my number now shows on the sgs2 woop whoop
However, if I changed my number (which I wouldn't) - I'd have to pop it back into the tocco and manually change it. Lol
I changed the number with an old SonyEricsson K800.
But the question now is:
Is it sure to have the phone number memorized in "about phone"?

And if I do not have an old phone to use?
A possible solution could be to do a Nandroid backup of your current rom, flash CM7 or CM9, put your phone number in, then restore your backup. I haven't had to do this as I use CM9, but I don't see why this wouldn't work as the number is stored on the SIM.

you guys are for real? Lol.
Easiest fix is using cm9, open dialer than its properties, and enter your number lol.
Don't remember if stock ics have the option in dialer, on GB at the moment

[Q] Phone number "unknown" in device status

This seems to be a regular stupid problem in Android phones.
I had to change my SIM card to get a micro-sim for the GS3.
Now, my existing number is working again with the micro SIM, but the number apparently isn't actually STORED in the SIM card itself.
So, as far as the phone status is concerned, the number remains UNKNOWN.
It's not such a big deal, but a few apps do want it to be there.
Is there any way to change the number in the SIM, apart from taking it out and stuffing it in a Blackberry just to change it, etc ?

Thanks for the reply rizky, but I have no problem with contacts - I've sync'ed all those no problem. It's my own phone number that's the issue.
In the ideal world, my own phone number should be saved in a special part of the SIM card (different to contacts). I believe that sometimes the network operator sends a special type of text message to update it if you get a new card. Unfortunately, my new card didn't get updated, so although the phone works OK, my GS3 doesn't actually know it's own number.
I can READ the number as "unknown" in the phone status screen, but it is not possible to edit it in Android.

This is not a setting in stock android devices. You usually find the setting in cyanogen roms under call settings.
There are apps on the market that can write your number to your sim card. They have varying success

I presume that they need root access though, don't they?
Android, setting Own number / My Phone Number Galaxy SIII
First, to see if your phone knows your number go to:
Settings -> About Device -> Status -> My phone number
Often it's wrong if you transferred your number from another SIM or is simply unrecognized perhaps because it's a new SIM and it has never been entered.
To correct it:
There is an app. on the market "My Phone Number" but this frequently won't work on the SIII so,
If you use cyanogen six and aboveYou will have an option to enter or change your own number. Settings -> Call Settings -> Additional Settings -> My phone numberIf you are not using CyanogenA simple way to correct the number grab an old "dumb" phone. The number is stored on the SIM card, so you need to remove you Galaxy SIII SIM and put it in the old phone.
(you can use a Micro SIM adapter or in some cases you can just tape the card in the correct position if it is an open slot)
Older basic phones often have an option to change/enter "special numbers" including "My Number"
Most often the option is under Contacts, Options, Special Numbers although depending on the model you may need to hunt around for the setting.
It is worth correcting this if it is missing or incorrect because some apps and contact features rely on the number being correctly entered.
Mike
w00t - just discovered this!
Well, you can do all that, or you can do this (much more straightforward, IMHO)
There's an Xposed framework solution to this glitch here
Works a treat!
Get it done!
good to know Xposed can do it now.
Its not an android glitch. Its a SIM card glitch
A glitch nonetheless

[Q] (Help) Phone Number in Status

I've been searching all day for a good solution for this but can't seem to find anything that works for the S2.
I've seen some people have an issue in Android where the phone number will show up as Unknown in the My phone number field in the About phone status screen. I have a similar issue, but different. My phone number shows up 11 zero's instead of unknown.
As my previous phone was an Iphone my sim won't fit to try write my number to the sim. Is it the same issue as the unknown? and has anyone found a fix while using an S2? I've already updated the ME contact with my number and still no luck.
There seem to be a few apps that use this number to display information about you including Kies which return this 00000000000 number.
It doesn't stop the phone from being used, but it is started to be an annoyance that I guess I could do with out.
Any help you could give would be great.
Thanks,

I got that, but since I've got the unknown number maybe you can do something extra when you got number displaying there. So my question was needed to be like: where do you need it for?
But sorry I don't known how to get it there.
