As question says: Is it possible to read files from system folder on an unrooted phone and copy them to pc or sd card?
Hi, I am new to this and one of the first things I did was unlocking my bootloader and rooting the device. So I do not really know, but I think that you can use the app rootexplorer on unrooted stock firmware as well. You won't be able to write, but I am pretty sure that you can read thus copy. If you are on windows you can give android commander a chance. This is a port of the famous windows commander to read out the smartfone. There you would even be able to copy your wished data to you connected pc.

Must someone use a separate computer to download/extract/transfer a file (RUU, ROM, RADIO, ETC) to thier phone; or, is there an app or something that would allow someone to place the file (zip) onto the root of their sd card, without using a separate computer. I only ask; because I am running windows 7 on my laptop (can't seem to get the correct HTC drivers using windows 7, to recognize my phone), my work computer won't allow me to connect any outside devices, and my desktop is connected to my television (it's hard to fight off all the kids to get access).
It would be great if I could figure out how to download/place/rename the file(s) (zip) directly onto my sd card, using only my phone. Any ideas? I have been searching forums for weeks on end and this is my first post.
Running with:
Thunderbolt (mecha)
Revolutionary
S(security)-Off
Superuser
Clockworkmod Recovery
Fast Boot
Cyanogen Mod
you can basically do all that on your phone.
root explorer (gives you access to look, rename files, delete, copy/paste & search your sd card) & zip viewer (zip program) can do it on the phone. also a file called zip signer is good to have incase you want to sign a file...
phone only
Nice...thank you...why then do all the forums tell u to dowload on a separate computer then transfer? Seems like an unneeded step...
This might be a silly question, but I was currently trying to backup some saves for games I bought, and was unable to find my Final Fantasy 3
saves on my sdcard.
I found out that the saves are actually in internal storage in some location like /data/data/com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFIII_GP
My phone isn't currently rooted, and the file explorers I found required root.
Is there a way I can backup the saves to my PC without having a rooted phone?
I wanted to backup all my stuff before attempting to root my phone, but will the root process erase my phone's internal storage, or is that only
when flashing ROMs?
Wifi File Explorer Pro seems to work fine. I can see the folders outside of the SDCard folder...including the root stuff. Now changing those files or folders...I have not tried.

Thanks, downloaded the app and I do seem to be able to explore the phone's internal storage, however the data folder in question seems to be
completely empty according to the app.
EDIT :
After trying with another app, it looks like I probably need root to view the /data folder.
Hi Guys,
Just a quick question. My phone is rooted. When I plug it into the PC, I want to be able to see all the files/folders that I'm able to view when I look through a "root folder app" on my phone.
Is this possible?
Cheers
In the wonderful world of adb, yes.
Sorry , but from standart window explorer you can't see ever folder . There are some differences in permissions and because of your device is linux and pc is windows you can't see everything without adb , but you can install Root Explorer and see it from your device
Guessing ADB mode is the only way of accessing the root files/folders then?
Was hoping to create a java script that extracts the messages.db from one of the root folders.
Edit - Can you only select ADB mode through Eclipse?
Edit 2# - Does ADB mode need to be selected every time you wish to access root files / folders?
Sam Tab 2, 10.1 GT-P5113, CM 10.1
Rooted and good to go, got CM 10.1 on it flawlessly. I use Ubuntu on my laptop as dualboot, and wanted to try it out on my tab. I got the files to the "media" portion of the device "/storage/emulated/0/DCIM and made a folder "ubuntu" there. Then came the long line of finding out how to move the files to "/", got them over by using Total Commander (as told by android police)with assist from CM File Manager. In trying to move the .img over to the /ubuntu folder, the device restarted and now "/ubuntu" doesn't exsist.. The device won't let me switch "/" to read-write unless I use Total Commander (or some other method I'm not aware of yet", so here is my question..
How can I move the files from "/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/ubuntu/*.*" to /ubuntu/*.*" and keeping the folder there without it rebooting and deleting the folder? I read an article at galaxytabshacks and they said to move the files there.. Any help you guys/gals know would be awesome!

Back up content, data, and settings from your phone to your Google Account, then restore your backed-up information to VMOS. Important: You can't restore a backup from a higher Android version onto VMOS running a lower Android version.

1. Android's folder named /root is RO. You've to root phone's Android and then mount it as RW if you want to move files there to.
2. Android host and VMOS are completely independent systems, they even don't know of each other:: You can't move files from one system to the other and vice versa.
Can i download inapp purchases from vmos and back up to regular andorid
There is a built-in app in VMOS called file transfer station in yellow. Click on that and you can proceed further.

Hello I originally installed applications in non-rooted VMOS rom. Now I would like to back them with titanium so I can transfer them to other phone. Google backup does not work well. Is there any way how to root rom that has not been originally designated as rootable, or how to move apks with data?
