European Galaxy S2 on AT&T network. 4G??? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i had my iphone 4 for more than a year, and i finally decided to go back to Android!!
i just purchased WHITE GALAXY S2 (European Unlock Model)
My question is..... i know that i have to get new sim card because iphone 4 uses micro simcard, and galaxy s2 needs the regular one..
but i was wondering if my galaxy s2 can have 4G on aT&T network?
do i have to activate something? like get different 4G sim card or pay little more montly fee? or i dont have option to have 4G on it?
Please answer my question!
thank you...sorry if someone already posted similar question on this forum!

Depends on what you consider 4g, I don't consider HSPA+ 4g and the speeds I get on my SGS II (which came with a UK plug) works more or less as fast as my Inspire. So I would say yes.

[Q] samsung galaxy s2 LTE PL help

Hello,
I am in Dilemma which fone to buy. BEcause i already have a samsung galaxy s2. But as i am heading to LA. I had a glance on few articles saying i cant use my galaxy s 2 in USA which has 4G network. Can't i use it in 3G..?? I mean we can use it for communication ie for answering calls, sms. But as far as data is concerned we cannot because it doesnot support 4G. I very much love my galaxy s2 but after having a look at galaxy s2 HD & LTE. I am eagerly waiting for those fones. Can anyone pl let me know where will i get those fones ?? If not samsung galaxy s2 International version...?? Should i buy from ebay..?? In this international version any carrier will work..??
My main confusion is which fone to go ? I need a fone which supports in INDIA/CHINA/USA 3G & 4G. Good specification like galaxy s2 + more features. pl help thanx in adv
Why won't your gs2 support data in the us, mine handles data and calls perfectly and as far as 4g goes the USA only has one true 4g operator and that is Verizon and from what I've seen their not going the route of galaxy s2 , but their going with the nexus so if your looking for a let galaxy s2 for use in the us good luck and when you find please let me know, don't know if they have released the bands yet I do stay in Atlanta and I heard AT&T turned on their lte so maybe those bands will work but I dont know
Now there are more operators in US which supports 4G. Like T-mobile, AT&T, Sprint....!! So my Question is if i buy one more galaxy s2 here in shanghai....will it work in USA(including call & data)...?? not 4G as GS2 supports only 3G.
Or
You prefer me to Buy a fone in US only which has a contract & most importantly they are 4G compatible..??
I dont mind using 3G data in my Shanghai GS2 rather than going for GS2 4G(contract one).
I cant wait till they release it so...!!
Else pl suggest me any good smart fone which can be used in INDIA/CHINA/USA calls & data..!! i think HTC ha good variants...!!
Waiting for reply guys........pl !!
Your galaxy S2 will work everywhere bro don't panic
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
BUt i heard we dont get only sim card in USA. we have to buy there only with contract i think tht is better

FYI, here's my input.
If you're on the Evo 4g currently, that means you're on Sprint. If you're asking specifically about the Galaxy SII for Sprint, you're asking the wrong group of people.
The Galaxy SII for Sprint is the SPH-D710. That forum is here.
THIS forum is for the GT-I9100, which is the international version of the Galaxy SII. Mostly sold outside of the US, but it DOES work on AT&T fully with mobile data speeds up to HSPA+. It also works on T-Mobile USA, but T-Mobile will only provide mobile data speeds up to Edge. This phone (GT-I9100) will not work on Sprint at all.

MetroPCS? Will this phone (specifically the GT-I9100) even work on their network? I thought they were a CDMA carrier?
EDIT: hold up. You say "about to get Galaxy S2 I9100 switched over to metro"... does this mean you already have the phone and are switching to Metro? Or did you order the phone and are waiting for it to arrive, and plan to switch to Metro?
Your profile says you are on T-Mobile USA. If you ALREADY have a Galaxy SII on T-Mobile, you probably have the SGH-T989.
If you DON'T already have a Galaxy SII, and you've ordered the GT-I9100, and want full use of 3g/"4g", you will HAVE to go to AT&T or H2O, or any other GSM carrier that may be regional to your area that uses the same frequencies as AT&T. Or, you could stick with T-Mobile, but your mobile data speeds will be limited to Edge.
MetroPCS uses completely different cellular transmission technology, and the GT-I9100 will not even pick up a signal on their network for voice, let alone data.
EDIT 2: For that matter, if you have the T-Mobile variant (SGH-T989), that one won't work on Metro either, for the same reason.
Well it's both I'm picking up the phone after work and I plan to get it flashed to Metro. I was told that the phone is the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. I'm doing it for my girl who already has Metro. I have seen other user selling Galaxy S2 already on Metro so I know for a fact that they have the Web & MMS working, I just cant find it for myself! Thanks for the reply by the way!

Who ever told you "Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100" is wrong. There is no such thing.
The I9100 is the international model that operates on GSM.
If it's from Sprint, they meant the "SPH-D710", not "I9100".
You are better off asking in this forum. Someone there may have experience flashing a Sprint variant to Metro.
It's not very likely that anyone here in the I9100 forums is going to be able to help you, sorry.
I think he posted the wrong model>>>>> What Carrier has Galaxy S2 model I9100???? I think sprint model is Sphd710!
Thanks for the Help!!!!

If he said it's flashable to Metro, then yes, he got the model wrong.
NO carrier in the US carries the I9100. It is the international model. But like I said, it works on AT&T for voice and 3g/"4g" (which is what I'm using), and T-mobile USA for voice and Edge.

[Q] What's carrier can the Galaxy S II be flashed to?

Hi a friend of mine wants to trade his Galaxy S II for my Evo Shift. I'm pretty sure it's worth the trade but before I do I wanna know what's possible on it first.
What all carrier(s) can the Galaxy be flashed to?
What's the best performing/fastest carrier available?
And is the flashing process easy?
Thanks in advance

What country? And what model of Galaxy S II does he have? What carrier did he get it from, if any?
There are over a dozen different models of Galaxy S II, and they are all different. Some are GSM, some are CDMA. Some have LTE, some don't. So what carrier the phone will function on will depend on what model it is.
EDIT: You say you have an Evo 4G Shift, which makes me think you are on Sprint, in the US. Is he also on Sprint? If he is, then the Galaxy S II he has is not the same as the one this forum is for.
THIS forum is for the GT-I9100, which is a GSM phone... which means it works on AT&T and T-Mobile (but only with Edge on T-Mobile) in the US.
The one from Sprint (a CDMA network) is the SPH-D710, also known as the Galaxy S II Epic 4g Touch. (Its forum is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281) If this is true, then I've heard you can flash the Epic 4g Touch to other CDMA carriers (like Cricket, Verizon, US Cellular, etc)... but I don't know the details. If he indeed has the Epic 4g Touch, then you would be better off asking in the forum for that device.
Ok I was not aware of that. But yes it is a sprint version which would make it CDMA. I didnt realize there was a difference between carriers. But thank you anyway for the help!

[Q] Q on Galaxy S II Epic carrier locked?

Hope I am in the correct forum, but have a question regarding the Sprint "Samsung Galaxy S™ ll, Epic™ 4G Touch".
I do not use Sprint, but am under the impression they do not use SIM cards. My question is simple, can this phone from Sprint (Galaxy S II) be used with any other carrier like AT&T? Long story short I have the opportunity to get one of these phones, but my contract is with AT&T.

Probably not. EDIT TO ADD: Sprint is a CDMA voice network. AT&T is a GSM voice network. You'll never be able to get voice on one network with a phone from the other carrier because of this.
And the Epic 4G Touch has its own forum. This is the forum for the GT-i9100. Different phone from the Epic 4G Touch.
FYI though, the GT-i9100 DOES work on AT&T - I have one, and am on AT&T.
