Bad data/stuck on 1X in NYC, anyone else? - HTC EVO 3D

For the past two weeks, I been having really crappy 3G signal, well barely any. Always stuck on 1X. I'm on SteelRom 2.5 and on PRL 21081.
Anyone else with the same problem? Doubt it's the ROM, maybe the PRL? Or maybe something having to do with Sprint changing the coverage area to EVDO Rev B?

Call them up and complain about your issue. You might get some credit on your bill.
My "DU4L C0R3 SH00T3R" shot you down in 3D! Screw Tupac. "A,O,S,P BACK!" >_<

intersting... i was stuck on 1x a while back but it was because of the bad prl sprint rolled out

It's your PRL. Update it. While here in NYC I've had crappy (now better) data speeds since January, they've gotten better. I know there was a recently-released PRL that made people get stuck on 1x, so update it.

Wow 3g is slow!

This is ridiculous. It's taking like 2 mins to load Google?
I've already done the proxy removal and I'm only getting like 100 kbps. What's going on here??

That's about right for Sprint 3G. It's within the 3G range for Sprint, anyway.
After removing the proxies I went from like 500kbps to 1.3mbps in my house...1-2 bars...sometimes 3....
Today I was in an area that was previously almost a deadzone, no bars but no roaming.....I got 1.5mbps-2.1mbps!??? It was phenomenal. The 4G in that area only netted my like 7mbps, even though 4g in my area (which I cannot get in my house) I've gotten up to 18mbps before.
Call sprint, report deadzones. If nobody tells them they won't do anything.

If you live in the boonies.
It's fast in California.
I live in NYC.
Just did a speed test and got 11 kbps. Pretty sure NYC isn't in the boonies.
Live in Chicago burbs, as I type this, roaming alert came on
On my.EVO 4G don't think I ever saw the roam alert. On this 3VO it roams few times a day. That NEVER used to happen.
3G service has hit the ****ter lately.

3G service when I had my Lotus and Moment were actually impressive for a mobile device...I was surprised.
3G Service the day I got my Evo4G was VERY impressive....and it just declined steadily from there. For a while I thought it was me screwing with the phone too much....but 2 and 2, etc....
The 3G speeds I get on my Evo3D are right in line with the Evo4G and the steady decline in service in my area (probably proportionate to some of the (now) 500,000 android activiations every effing day)....but the radio is like 1-1.5 bars lower than my Evo would average....which sucks. Performance isn't affected unless it's a fringe situation, like the bathroom at work...which sucks, I like to read CNN when I poop, but I digress.
I expect radio updates will help a lot, but, I ain't touchin' any of that until we have some action out of HTC or failing that one of our brilliant devs does what they are bound to do anyway...
...I've gotta admit, I've been F5ing the living fnck out of the two root threads in development and they are fascinating and at times exciting....I recommend it, it's better than the drunken 6-year-old mob mentality that has tended to coalesce in General lately--I haven't even bothered with Q&A....
Man I never thought I'd see the day where I'd salivate over 322 kbps.
If only Verizon would release better phones...

So flash a verizon PRL and watch your usage....once you hit 300mb put back the sprint PRL...it's like you are throttling yourself, lol.
Seriously, if Verizon is that much better where you are do it....where I am Verizon has a stronger signal but they also have MANY MANY MANY times more customers than Sprint, so, their network is way oversold and over utilized....Sprint not so much....so Sprint has weaker signals and faster speeds on average.
In terms of voice, Sprint is the clear winner where I am but for some reason Data is just the worst.
How would I go about flashing a Verizon PRL? I have the PRL file but I'm unsure of how to actually flash it.
Did you try calling Sprint and getting them to reprovision your phone?

My mistake for saying 'flashing', force of habit...
First thing you have to do is get your MSL, you can either call Sprint and ask for it or use the popular method (with CDMA workshop) that's currently around the top of the Dev section... I usually just called for it, but, for geekliness I had to rip it out myself and it was an effin' snap to do, so, just follow those directions to get it...
....then there is a thread floating around here (and/or the Evo4g forum) with a number of Verizon and Verizon/Altell hybrid PRL's.....download a couple...31337 is good I hear
then you punch in some ## codes, load the PRL file, reboot and ***POOF***, you are on verizon--still consuming roaming data and voice--but you aren't limited to 1x....
EDIT: Don't forget to hit "menu:commit changes" to reboot--or you won't make any changes.

Hmm thanks. I already have the MSL, but I don't see anything in the ##3282# to load in a new PRL. Is that the right code?
EDIT:
OK whoa whoa! I got a nice 300 kbps just now. I changed a setting in that menu regarding EVDO. Changed it from CDMA only to Automatic. Lemme revert and see what happens.

Internal and external IP different on 3D?

Has anyone noticed that their IP shows up different internally in the 3d than the external address that sprint gave them? I develop an app that benefits greatly from a direct connection to the phone (not NAT'd by your mobile provider), and my new Evo 3d has this problem while my Evo 4G (and several other sprint phones I've tested on) do not.
Also, could a few people that do have this problem on 3G test if 4G has this same problem? I will be at a developers conference next week where I'd like to demo my app on the 3D, and if 4G alleviates this problem I might be able to go that route for the time being. Thanks.
PS - To check, download "MyIP" or any similar IP listing program from the market and check to see if your internal and external IP's match. Thanks!
wow, glad someone notice that, yea, it does show a different IP on the evo 3d
Anyone else?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
yep their different on mine also. could this be the cause of my horrible 3g speeds?
cant get a 4g signal in my area to test sorry
It's probably the sprint proxy.. Is it still that way once they're zeroed out via the increase 3g speeds walk through on here?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I have proxy configured off and the external IP still is not the same. Plus I tried a remote connection on either of the IP's on TCP/2322 and couldnt get through (blocked)
This is not good.
Hmmm....is the external IP static or dynamic?
I rebooted the phone and it acquired a new external IP and device IP.
Wouldnt really be a big deal, however, it would appear there isnt any incoming tcp connections allowed at either address. I always assumed I would be able to ssh into my phone if it were lost, never really checked if the Evo 3d could do it on 3G until now.
wow...this is kinda a big deal...

Dropped calls fix?

Hello everyone, I started using this Evo yesterday, and already have had 4 dropped calls. I have already swapped back to my old phone, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a solution to fix this dropped calls issue. At this point this phone is on usable for my business, and I am about to return it.
where are you from? because sprint is in the process of updating every single one of their towers (not all at once, but going from city to city) to enhance the 3g performance on newer phones such as the evo lte. During these upgrades however, the call quality and internet speeds are terrible. i know because my towers are being updated now and the sprint everything is terrible here at the moment on my lte. however my dad with the old evo has no problems what so ever.
My other phone has no problems, nor does my wife's Sprint phone. So the problem seems to be this particular phone.
It is a known fact that the EVO LTE has less coverage due to the RF capabilities.
Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge
If that is the case then I am definitely going to dump it. Looks like a GS3 for me. It's too bad they can't make this thing at least as good as the first 2 Evos. My wife's 3D has performed flawlessly for a year now.
Depends on how you look at it. I was in a fringe area. My phone switched over to roaming and was usable there. The G3 was not usable as it kept trying to hang on to that poor signal.
From what I have seen too, the EVO is better in the 850 band so roaming you would have even more coverage plus when 800smr fires up for your area you will get better coverage there as well. Pros and cons...
Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge
Thanks for the info, however I was in my apartment for all of the dropped calls, and I do not consider this to be a fringe area... the other phones that we use here work fine.

Thanks digiblur.
rx power -84dB (but it changes constantly between -80 and -88 or so)
rx ec/io -9.0db (again, it changes constantly between -8 and -11.5)
my Photon sitting right next to the Evo has a rx ec/io reading of 110 dB (?!?) and rx Power -84dB and never drops calls.
I don't know what I am talking about, but could this be a PRL issue?
Photon PRL: 51090
Evo LTE: 25005
I am also wondering of changing from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only in the network settings will help battery life when there is no LTE in this area yet...

There shouldn't really be a noticeable change in battery life with cdma/LTE unlike WiMAX 4g which has drastic effects on battery...if there are tower upgrades underway in your area after they're completed you should be sitting on top of the world lol

No, a PRL isn't going to effect your native Sprint signal. Something is odd with that Photo EC/IO. An EC/IO is always a negative number, without going in to huge detail it deals with Pilot Channel pollution...kinda like the interference level or health of the pilot channel. If it is worse than -10 than your handset may search for a sector with a better EC/IO. But I've seen -14 on mine in places and no issues. -84 dbm receive signal is good...nothing really wrong with those numbers, especially indoors. It's not a linear scale, but basically a -60 or better means you are very very close to the tower and -103ish or worse is about to fall off the cliff.
So this information says nothing about the dropped calls then, right?
I always drop calls but usually its bc my phone randomly goes into airplane mode by itself while on a call..es . drives me nuts
Firmbiz, did you root or mess with your phone at all?
Try changing system settings to EVDO Only.
The default stock setting is EVDO/LTE.. I have yet to have a dropped call but im also not a heavy talker.
I do use data and noticed this helped with some data issues.
Make the switch and then power off the device, and power it back on. Make sure you have fast boot disabled as well.

Phone won't ring while roaming on 25006, does on 12124

Some of you may have seen this in my MeanROM thread, but I thought I'd start a thread for it for others who may have the problem. I noticed a few days ago that my phone was no longer ringing while roaming. People would call and it goes straight to voicemail while roaming. I tried all manner of tricks (some which did work for others) but none worked for me. I did PRL updates, profile updates, wiping dalvik and cache, wiping multiple times, factory resets, multiple factory resets. Bottom line: my phone flat out will NEVER ring when roaming on PRL 25006 (the normal PRL for us now): only when on Sprint. Odd thing is, you can pick up the phone and make an outgoing call fine on roaming: just won't ring. As a last ditch effort before getting mired up in Sprint phone support for an hour, I put back my old 12124 corporate PRL that I had used for about a month and then dumped (only because I didn't see a difference). I've now done this at least a half dozen times: as soon as I push 12124, the phone will ring (and work) every time while roaming! Put 25006 back: won't ring.
Again, I've tried every trick that everyone has mentioned and the only factor is the PRL. Push 12124: works fine. Do "update PRL" and get 25006 back: won't ring while roaming; only when on Sprint. At my house, depending on what part of the house I'm in, that means I can't get calls at least half the time on PRL 25006 so thankfully we have 12124. Now I know 12124 isn't compatible with LTE but I couldn't care less as my area here isn't compatible with LTE either: and I'd rather be able to get phone calls when I need to!
This message is nothing more than a "tickler" to say hey, I think the 25006 PRL might be hosed. Either that or Sprint has changed something on the network that makes 25006 affect some of us this way. I've never had this happen before but the only other explanation I can think of is... maybe by me running 12124 for a month or so, my phone somehow got "re-provisioned" to corporate PRL's and the way it's provisioned now, 25006 doesn't work right. That's possible too: that I caused it by running 12124 for a while. Also possible that Sprint could fix it if I could actually find someone who knows how to reset/fix provisioning. I just don't have time right now for their BS and going through 6 techs over 2.5 hours on the phone. Been hammered lately.
Anyway, might be worth checking if you roam often: if you can actually receive a call when roaming. I know it doesn't affect everyone on 25006 nor does it affect every area. Might have to be special circumstances but I feel like there must be a bunch of people here who don't even know it but can't receive calls when roaming.

Hey Mike.. On 25006 here running your Mean 3.6. When I first forced roam and attempted to call my first attempt resulted in several network courtesy rings but no ringing on my device with it eventurally rolling to voicemail... My 2nd attempt I heard about 4 network courtesy rings then myh device actually rang once before it rolled to voicemail. 3rd attempt and all subsequent attempts afterwords calls rang right through to my phone and I also tested sms text messages and data and they both worked fine. Cant really explain why 12124 works fine for you and 25006 doesnt other than possibly the first preferred roaming partner is different between the 2 because of an agreement change between carriers. Maybe whatever carrier is the 1st prefferred in your area for 25006 is having issues with correctly registering your device to its network to notify of incoming calls.. Most of the time just registering to network by completeting an outbound call but obviously isnt working for you.. Sometimes powercycling will resolve the issue also... On another note.. Im not sure if its the new sense 4.1 or your new rom that has stripped out some of the funtionality of beats audo settings.. But now the only options I get for beats audio is on/off... I no longer get the extendted options of beats ur beats.. beats solo and other.... or the option of the equalizer with beats off... Is it that way for everyone or just me?
Hope mikeyxda doesn't mind....
I have been talking back and forth with mikeyxda, it's a metropcs issue. Sounds like there is an issue with metropcs telling sprint that his phone is on their tower. Unfortunately when a call comes in, sprint thinks his phone is off so it sends it to voice mail.
The 12124 prl doesn't have metropcs in the list for his area. So he sits on vzw which works fine, but 12124 doesn't allow Lte connections. Working on a solution to fix both issues....

Mind? I'm hella grateful that we have someone with your knowledge here! I feel a lot better knowing the reason for the problem and feel a little better about Sprint because it seems like a MetroPCS problem. Although, with Sprint doing work on upgrading towers around here, I guess it could still be a Sprint problem where something they did is no longer compatible with MetroPCS. Either way, I think this problem is more widespread than people realize and I suspect anyone roaming in an area that is being upgraded while on a MetroPCS tower might have this problem. Kinda brings to light the fact that PRL's can affect more than people realize. If you're roaming, a PRL can affect data, data speed, whether or not you connect at all, and now whether or not your phone will ring when it looks like you have a signal.

Looking into the issue also... will report back when have an update...
I just chatted with a sprint tech online and so far the issue seems to have been resolved. This was the transcript:
You: well, my phone recently upgraded. Since then, whenever i am roaming, when people call, it goes straight to voicemail
Russ B.: Please confirm which line you are concerned about.
You: **********
Russ B.: Thank you.
Russ B.: Please turn off your phone and let me check this for you.
You: turning off
Russ B.: Thank you.
You: its off
You: i roam a lot, so its a problem
Russ B.: Thank you for waiting.
Russ B.: I have done some basic troubleshooting on your phone.
Russ B.: Please turn on your phone and check if you still face same issue. However I can see you are on data plan and roaming is included in your plan and you will not be charged for roaming.
You: no i know, and thats good, but if i dont receive calls while roaming, then it does me no good
You: ok its on, and im roaming right now. can you call it to see if it works?
You: i have no other phone
Russ B.: I am sorry, we are at chat support and do not have option to call.
Russ B.: I hope you can understand this. Please ask some one to call you.
You: i will try to find someone hold on
Russ B.: Sure.
You: sorry for the wait
You: someone is trying right now
Russ B.: Sure, no problem.
You: it has worked 2 times, but im trying a third just to be sure!
Russ B.: Sure.
You: it worked 3 times
Russ B.: I have just refreshed services on phone by doing some troubleshooting on your phone.
Russ B.: Great. It will be more better once provisioning will get completed.
You: ok oh it says service update right now
Russ B.: Let t get completed. Provisioning is running on your phone.
Russ B.: Yes, however it may take some time. So please do not use services on phone for 10-15 minutes.
Hope this helps. Ive received 5 calls while roaming since, some say it rings 4 or more times, and i only hear one, but it seems to be working!

Just making sure, don't want to bring PM stuff out in the public.
When roaming you are at the mercy of whatever the provider gives you. But for the most part, the other provider wants you to use all the minutes and data you can so they can bill Sprint more.
This MetroPCS issue might be just a regional thing and not nationwide. It could be even a smaller subset of users in your area as well. It's going to take quite a few phone calls to get fixed though. The easier option is to just use a PRL that doesn't use MetroPCS.
So the fact that i seem to be working just fine now is a fluke? because ive received several calls now while roaming and they have all worked just fine, whereas before they wouldnt go through at all.
edit: upon reading my post, i feel it may sound accusing. I did not intend for that, I really want to know, if it is a fluke. maybe im just paranoid!

I just chatted with a sprint tech online and so far the issue seems to have been resolved. This was the transcript:

Thanks for sharing. I rolled back to the 25006 PRL so that I have the problem again and started a chat session. They did the same thing, reprovisioned my phone, my phone got the message about starting network services. Still won't ring. Rebooted, did PRL and profile updates after that. They had me call *720 (while NOT roaming). Tried some other things too. Still won't ring on 25006. Push 12124 and it rings every time.
So I guess moral of the story: YMMV.
Mike
I hesitate to post this due to its non-technical nature. Inside the sense music app is a choice to enter Sprint Music+.
When I entered it for the first time the phone automatically went into a PRL update. The actual PRL number (25006) did not change afterwards, the 3g connectivity at fringe did. It could be the placebo affect, but maybe just maybe there was a reason for the PRL update. Just thought it should be mentioned.
BTW I also get a lot of no ring > voicemail calls while roaming. I work in a sprint fringe area.

My mistake. I wasn't roaming at the time. I'm roaming now and it says 6005.

Haha truth be told, I thought it was normal for me not to be able to receive calls while roaming, thought it was just cause I force roam..

That's Cricket. I'm thinking this is only a MetroPCS issue...it might even just be a regional MetroPCS issue as well.
Just an update, doesn't seem to be am across the board national issue with prl 25006 as many users have reported being able to receive calls fine while roaming. Maybe onto something with it being with certain partners or a certain partner. Definately nothing to do with anything sprint is doing to their towers as your not connected to a sprint tower if roaming..now if you are in good sprint coverage and roaming then a coverage issue may need to be looked into.

MMS not working on 00001 prl

Hey guys, quick question. I know it probably isnt going to be solved, or cant be solved, but
i just threw 00001 prl on my evo lte, and everything works great except, MMS. I was wondering if anyone knew any work around to get mms working while on the 00001 prl?

I've never heard this PRL before. Mind giving me a link to it? Sorry I can't do any help, but suggest going on a newer PRL .
