I have a dock for my Evo 3D and Sense 3.0 doesn't rotate the sense UI to landscape. I have orientation switch installed and it can rotate the sense UI to landscape; however, sense will get stuck in a crash loop. Other than using another launcher, has anyone found a way to get sense 3.0 to work normally in landscape?
Same here, would really like sense in landscape. + 1

Correct. Sense 3.5 does support landscape homescreen, so hopefully we'll see a port of that soon.

That's good news about 3.5 then. Honestly no landscape sense is one of my biggest grips with the phone.
If we were running the version of Sense from the Flyer Tab, $#!+ would be money!
Yeah, not having landscape sense is what made me jealous of my GFs Evo Shift. I've was really hoping the 3D would have had it.
You all can sign me in about the liking of sense in landscape.
I really do not understand that HTC did not make sense work in landscape from the start.
When using navigation and you quick want to check some things on your home screen your always have to bend your head or chance the position from your phone.
I hope the have the sense 3.5 ported to our 3D in a reasonable time
But I am still really waiting for the CM for the 3D.
I just personally think that is the best there is.
Theoretically, if we had Sense 3.0 in Landscape, we could make it 3D...

But that not necessary for me to put it in 3D it will hunt your battery down but it would be cool like an option.
I have seen previous sense builds that worked in landscape, why would it not be possible for sense 3.0??

If you decompile Rosie.apk you will see the files for landscape is there. I have been on and off trying to port over Rosie to support landscape. Time and knowledge currently are my enemies. Lack of knowledge in Rosie and time to work on it. It can be done and I believe it will be harder for sense 3.0 I. Most of the work I think will be XML controlled.I have a semi version version working, but cannot get Sense widgets to load! And screen navigation is non existent. If somebody with more knowledge could port mikG rom from the shift to evo 4g, synergy kingdom 4g for evo 4g or the rcmix kingdom leaked version, those are the only ones I found with Rosie landscape. The rcmix kingdom is the only sense 3 that I found without the 2.1 / 3.0 combo mix of sense.
over all, besides the fact that i know im using ics, with some snappier improvements and features, idk if im excited at all about sense bloated ics. it resembles gb sense.
what are your thoughts?
Wait for AOSP roms and Sense 4 roms. Right now, I run Nova Launcher and Wizz Widgets over a 3.6 rom, which works great for now.

I wasn't quite excited about the ICS Sense leak. I like ICS of course, but prefer pure AOSP.
But I took a shot and installed the ICS Sense 3.6 leak.
I manually "de-sensified" it by removing all the HTC bloatware from /system/apps, some HTC framework such as the HTCLockScreen.apk (if you remove it, it reverts back to stock AOSP ICS lockscreen) and overall just removed unwanted apps (Never knew there were so many useless apps bundled with HTC Sense.. I removed at least 20-30 ).
Installed Apex Pro Launcher (To further the AOSP ICS look)
And I changed the stock HTC Sense SystemUI.apk and Settings.apk with the ones from VladBelsky's Senseless rom (GSM). This gives me the dropdown notifications of a ICS rom (with quick settings too) and the Settings of ICS.
Overall, I'm very glad with the outcome. Everything works, from 3G net, to Camera, and even 3D works. I haven't found any bugs yet.
I think the sense 3.6 is complete poo, iv just come from an se play, i hate the se launcher, i fell in love with sense 3 rosie, sense 3.5 is smoother, 3.6 is pants, everytime i go into settings and come out of settings, i get a white htc screen, effing annoying, now if you turn the rom into aosp then the experience is a hell of alot better, i know its a leak so hopefully the sense 3.6 rosie will improve as time, thank you sony, yoyv made me realize how great sense is, my fav sense 3 roms are monx senseslated and king cobra, my fav sense3.5 rom is mikrunny, my fav ics rim is any of them with apex installed, oh for anybody that likes miui, in xda android apps section, there is mihome, its only for ics roms, turns your rom into miui, it comes with its own lockscreen and themeable aswell.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
yh im still sticking to sense 3.5 because sense 3.6 has some niggles to annoy me
1) the lockscreen shortcuts have to e the same as those on the dock.....the whole point of the lockscreen shortcuts is so that i don't have to go to the homescreen for some apps
2) can't access roaming settings on mobile network (WTF to that??)
3) seems too bloated which is why sense 4.0 is for me when it comes out with some of those mods
yeah, how silly is the lockscreen, completely agree
The lockscreen/dock sync is my only issue.
I'm dissapointed in the still slow / horrible white balanced camera.
Even the HTC EVO Design 4G has a faster shutter.
Still overall, I like it.

This discussion started as a question in one of the CM10 threads asking how users that want an AOSP experience over HTC Sense as a daily driver wound up with the Evo 3D. It then began evolving into a debate about Sense versus AOSP so I thought it would be a good idea to move it out of that thread. Please keep it civil here or I'm sure the mods will close this thread, as I would expect them to do.
I'll start off by saying I really don't mind Sense and like the direction it has taken with the 4.x releases, so I don't consider it a compromise to run Sense ROM's to take advantage of more features of the Evo 3D. OTOH, I like to run AOSP ROM's to see what future versions of Android are bringing to our devices, and the simplicity of the AOSP interface is a pleasant change of pace, not to mention things like ParanoidAndroid that aren't available for Sense ROM's.
Here's another Sense user's experience using AOSP.
I'm not sure yet what my next device will be which is one of the reasons I'm interested in this discussion. If everyone else has heard enough in the CM10 thread already, just ignore this one and it will go away in a day or two.

In terms of look and design, AOSP>Sense (graphic designer here). Sense may look flashy and "poppy" but it's the same look that HTC incorporated with in the original WinMo version of sense known as TouchFlo back in 2008 I believe. Back then, this style was all the craze and was fitting for it's time, hence the design style of iOS on the original iPhone, which has also not changed. But that was nearly five years ago, and design style and standards have changed. Google has done a great job of keeping up to date with design by keeping things "clean" by minimizing fake shadows, gradients, and object that are given false dimension. In my opinion, Windows Phone is designed extremely well and is, in some ways, setting the standard on UI design, just look at how it carried that look over to Windows 8 and what MySpace's new look is like. It's all about simplicity. As a graphic designer, I cannot stand the look of Sense; it's dated and overly designed. But unfortunately, I bet that HTC (just like Apple) won't reconsider a major UI overhaul do to recognizability and brand association with Sense. All of this is just just my personal opinion though, and each is entitled their own

i think i have to agree with that, sense is just too much trying to be accomplished graphically on a 4inch phone. yeah the animations are nice, but they arent worth slowing down your phone. you have a phone to do the things you need it to do, the rest is just bonus.
then again, im also a person who uses the classic theme on windows 7 despite having a decent computer to run aero and still run tons of programs at once.
last point, google has come a long way and you're finally able to see that when they released gingerbread. sense 3.0 w/ gingerbread was probably the last sense that i liked that was released otr for our phones because gingerbread was just repulsive. sense 4.0 i love because it's cleaner than the previous, and really snappy. but it's still sense and you get tired of it.
htc makes solid phones, but their os is starting to turn me away. but until samsung makes phones that arent plastic. ill forever use my 3vo and flash aosp roms.
It's funny how everyone on HTC phones hates sense (except me and a few others), yet people on samsung and LG beg for sense...

Let me throw this out for the people that prefer the AOSP look.
Given the changes in the Sense 4.x versions is HTC Sense still salvageable as an enhancement to AOSP or should HTC scrap it and convert it's widgets, which seem to be the most popular part of Sense, to work with Trebuchet and other launchers?
If HTC actually builds a Nexus phone, we may get a chance to vote with our dollars (or whatever currency you use).

( Don't ask me for help, as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh!!!)
I originally got the evo 3d because at the time I thought sense 3.0 was awsome it looked cool as hell. As well as it was one of the best phones sprint carried at the time. But then after a month or so I couldn't stand it and I went on the search for aosp or as close to it as I could get. My next device will definitely be a nexus device. Not only because I dislike sense at this point but because of the hell we went through waiting for ics and source code.

Sense is "pretty" and ya all the ROMs have working cam but aosp just has so much more freedom. Only time I'm rocking sense is when I'm taking a pic
Sent from my PG86100 using Xparent SkyBlue Tapatalk 2
As others have said, first off, I like the "tweakability" of AOSP when compared to sense. Much more freedom to do what I want and this expands with CM, AOKP, and other special builds.
Second, the simplicity and streamlining of AOSP is *far* superior to anything that sense has to offer. I'm not a graphic designer, but I am a photographer so I'd say that, at the very least, I have an eye for the aesthetics of things around me. AOSP, in its newer iterations (namely, ICS and AOSP - since the new standards were introduced) has a ridiculous amount of polish and aesthetic appeal when compared to pretty much any other Android offering.
I understand that aesthetics are a completely subjective thing. A lot of people here seem to like very flashy stuff - gold-themed roms, animated 3d spinning boot screens, really bright colors, outrageous text, biohazard signs, etc. That's not my cup-of-tea personally, but if you're into that stuff I can see why you might not like AOSP.
Finally, It was incredibly hard to predict exactly what would happen concerning our phones and AOSP. When I picked up my Evo 3D, I was a huge fan of HTC hardware after owning a Mytouch 3G as my first android phone and having it survive two large water accidents. I assumed that great devs would eventually get AOSP working on it and I was ok living with Sense until that happened.
Nothing against Sense, I'm sure there are plenty of reasons for people to like it, but I've spent over a year with both (I very recently switched back to AOSP on my 3D) and I heavily prefer AOSP.
I like sense its not horrible. and the things I've seen done with it through chubbzs ports of 4.0 and 4.1 But I've had sense for quite awhile and I like the simplicity and tweakage of aosp Aokp cm and CnA. It's just different and I'm looking for something different. I know sense is going to be more stable and more functional but I'm willing to deal with a much less stable Rom just for something different. It makes my phone feel like a new phone and its a little smoother IMO
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
I'm definitely not married to Sense anymore. When I first got my Evo 4G I really liked it, but once 4G was implemented into AOSP I flashed it and ran AOSP for months. Only going back to Sense once in a while. My Old EVO 4G is back on a Sense ROM though, Karma 7.7.7 (if I remember it right.)
Sense 4 is much sleeker and faster and I wish it was complete. If things weren't broken, I would be all over a Sense 4 ROM. But, I'd do the same on AOSP if there was a complete build of that. Ultimately, that is what keeps me on 3.6. Not it's style, look, how bloated it is (and it does have some heft.) But the fact that everything works, I can't stand not having everything worked that I paid for, whether I use them daily or not.
i liked sense 3.0 when it first came out. it was new and cool. it's still ok to be honest. but i miss AOSP. the newer versions of sense are nice as well but i just refuse to sacrifice 4G. i dont really mind losing 3D. never really used it. and i know 4G doesnt really work on any AOSP roms either. so i just desensify sense based roms to get as close to AOSP as i can. i was using CM9 on an old Droid X i inherited and i loved it. i wish we had a fully functioning CM build....
I really like Sense and I really like AOSP. (especially since ICS) the only possible way to ever choose between both was to own an HTC Device running sense. So that's what I've done since the Hero days. (Granite you needed AOSP for that device)
You can't buy a nexus device, and expect to get Sense on it, but you can buy a Sense device and get AOSP ROM's for it.
I like both, and the ability to choose. That's why I chose the EVO 3D (and HTC phones in general)

I know there is alot of debate on the entire skins vs AOSP, ive decided to write my reasons for sticking with Sense instead of AOSP. we all know sense was introduced to make android faster and eaiser to use it was great but as android started to grow the need for sense started shritting away, that was until sense 4.0, but ive always been a fan of sense from my first android phone, Evo 4G then Evo 3D and now with the Evo LTE. i can say ive experanced every major release of sense dare i say from TouchFlo (and TF3D), 1.0, 1.1, 2.1, 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, 4.0, 4.1 and even played with Sense 4.5. ive seen sense evolve througout the year and while i do admit it may be a memory hog (Shivers at WinMo 6.1 TouchFlo 3D) i cant just help but also admit it's beauty. i honestly feel not only sense adds slight improvemnts to the software (I.E. First with the "Sync Widget" and the photo Grid Widget and even the ionic sense weather/clock, native facebook intergration). Now to the things i appricate about sense, the camera interface. I find AOSP camera to be boring and plain, sense camera's have always been something beautiful to look at with added features like distoration, hot, cold, thermal, greyscale, Dots even 3D, and now with the ImageSense chip to handle camera processing it just got even better. another thing i used to love about sense was the email client, while i have to admit it had sync issues(I.E. MSN email were still marked unread on PC) it has a beautiful yet user friendly interface,SMS/MMS also shared this. The Status Bar has always had solid icons, i refuse to theme the status bar because alot of themes feel out of place Huge numbers on battery out of place icons ETC. the sense browser has always been in my top 3 brower list, it soild smooth and wordwrap is a benifit i wish chrome & Stock had. one thing i find underrated is 4.x multitasking. HTC designed recent apps based on what many users loved. WebOS card's. HTC took the card idea and tossed there taste into it. Sense Gives android a clean cut feel to it, it is beautiful (had if HTC would've Given us the extra gig of ram it would have been even snappier). Now some improvements i would like to see in sense are pretty simple, First id like to see the Holo effect i admire HTC for giving us a pretty much Stock Dock but sense is missing the Holo Effect which in my opinion is an amazing feature in AOSP, also as mentioned above, an extra Gig of ram would'nt hurt us but i think HTC will leanr from the X line and add addtional Ram in the future.
EDIT:
i would also like to include im not bashing AOSP, but for my phone i prefer Sense where on my TF i prefer AOSP

As far as I know they already have ._.
I tried AOSP out a few days ago (CM10) and I was able to take pictures while recording video, and picture taking was about as fast as normal.
I also heard that they merged it into AOSP awhile back.
But I could be wrong on what the ImageSense chip is in charge of, but I thought it handled that.
All that was required was porting the libs over and they have successfully merged the libraries already. There are still some things that can't be done yet. At this point the underpinnings are there but the software has to catch up
2 things:.
1. AOSP browser has word wrap. If you mean text reflow (like, a column maintaining screen width at any zoom level).
2. You LIKE sense 4 multitasking?!
How? It DOESNT multitask. It closes everything as soon as you leave it. Hell, zeppelinrocks and others have been working long trying to fix it.

Nah, CM10 uses the stock Android camera; they'd have to engineer the drivers for that chip from scratch. The ImageSense chip speeds things up dramatically and does a great deal of image processing... Supposedly they're legally required to eventually release the source for it, but the way things go it doesn't end up getting released until the device is nearing EOL, if at all. Please note that I have no inside information on this, this is just what I've picked up on these boards, as it's an important topic to me. As much as I like CM10, I don't like the idea of software that gimps my hardware.
^^^^^^^ what do you mean, "nah" ?
Yes, you absolutely can take stills while video recording in AOSP. I'm on AOKP and just did it.
I will say that in sense, taking a still while recording resulted in a pic that was crisper and sharper than any standalone pic I could take , while in AOSP, the still from video tends to be a bit blurry for me.
hurled from my AOKP'd Evo LTE. Enjoy.
I guess I'll add my opinion into this. I'm honestly a big sense fan. I've used the galaxy nexus for a few weeks, and tried out the galaxy S III. Now, what I love about AOSP is that everything is fast, and it works extremely well. (At least for the galaxy nexus.) I'm not a big fan of how much of a memory hog sense is, nor its bizarre multitasking, but I love the way sense integrates social networks. I'm a huge, facebook/tweeter users, and I hated how stock Android doesn't have as many options as Sense to integrate the two. Everything was centered around Google Plus, and none of the people I talk to are on Google plus, so it's pretty much useless to me. SO, Social network integration is a plus for me, as far as sense is concerned. Also, I love the little nuances in the design, like the weather animation, and widgets. I just only wish, sense wasn't so laggy, and HTC added some of the extras that you find in Touchwiz on the Galaxy S III.
I agree, I like sense more than touchwiz. I had the first galaxy s, and I liked a few of the added customizations, and I've played around with the s3. It's a very nice phone with a lot of little options. The one thing I like the most about touchwiz is the contacts, swipe left on a name to call and swipe right to message (or vice versa, can't remember). That's a nice little touch. Other than that and the lack of good multitasking, I think sense is very nice and user friendly.
I like sense but sometimes I get this crazy long lag when loading my text messages. Doesn't happen all the time and seems pretty random but its not just text messages. Sometimes it happens opening people or when trying to create a new message, it doesn't auto fill who I'm looking up for a good 15 seconds. Annoying and I'm pretty sure it's sense's fault. I had CM7 on my og Evo for about a year and I like stock android, got the Nexus 7 and it's great. I'm running stock on my Evo LTE and I'm not rooted but I'm seriously thinking about it just to get rid of that lag, it's rare enough that I might just update to jellybean when it comes out and hope it's fixed because it didn't do it until my first update. Also it takes way to long to launch sense when you've been in the browser for a while and hit home. Loading... Loading...

I personally think the dialer for sure looks way better than in Sense 4. Hopefully this will be ported whenever some Roms come out! *wishfulthinking*
Looks like some of the keyboard themes I've already come across in the past year.
I have yet to see a stable sense 4.5 (ignoring the 3D), and you are already dreaming of sense 5? Gonna take a loong while. Also, there are literally thousands of keyboards out there, i am pretty sure you can find one like that if you would search

I actually like the new sense ui. Not really a big fan of sense anymore since I went with aosp jellybean ROM. From the leeked specs I'm practically drooling over the hardware specs and new sense now lol. Giving the variety of carrier options I hope to see it come to Verizon and switch over to that phone when it comes out.

Used to be a huge fan of Sense( loved the Sense keyboard predictions in my language), but since I tried JB 4.2.1 AOKP, the old boy sense doesn't make any sense anymore. Also I will not change my phone until the poor thing dies. I saw some pics with sense 5, nice, but as someone said, we may wait some time until is available for evo via XDA ofc, or maybe we won't have Sense5 at all.

In leaked screenshots it does look a bit nicer and more professional look rather than that childish iOS-ish look but for some reason i really don't like the Browser & Camera icon, the Text and Phone icons look good tough.
I like the new jellybean 4.2.1 . Im running dastins cm 10.1 stable as hell with all features working minus the occasional glitches in video camcorder.
Some lucky b has sense 5 already
