My DX2 is rooted on 2.2.2 and at least twice a day there's an update thing that pops up in order to update to 1.3.232 and I can either install it now or postpone it. I've been postponing it for a while now. I was just wondering if I try to update it, will the phone be fine. Will my root access just go away and the phone will be updated? Sorry if this question has been asked already. I looked around, but couldn't find anything about it.

Just accept it, what's the worse that can happen? You have to SBF? Doubt it. You'll probably have an unusable SU icon in your drawer, but the 1-click root will fix that up.
Get crazy my man. Accept that update.

Update using P3's rooted GB instead of take that update it will let you keep root
DX2 Update
Yes. Your phone will have Gingerbread installed and the root will go away. But fear not, just follow the instructions here on how to root GB on DX2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234973
Alright. Thanks guys. I'll just try the update
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Okay, so I just tried to update it and when it was showing the progress bar it stopped about 1/4 of the way through and then the Android dude had an exclamation point, so basically, it failed
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Do you have any system apps frozen and/or deleted? If so, I believe that will stop three ota from downloading.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Thread moved
yeah make sure everything is unfrozen. If you deleted apps you'll have to SBF. Which at that point you could just SBF to GB and avoid the OTA all together.
I did have some apps frozen and I unfroze them and tried again, but yet again, it failed

like they said above... if would be easiest to do the neccessary app backups and just sbf with the p3 gingerbread...
I don't think it will update with root... Just sbf to P3's gingerbread rom and you will be set to go.

Yes, it will update with root but you will then lose root. But all you have to do after that is use the one cluck root method. I would make a nandroid. Backup after that so it will save you time if you start flashing ROMS and need to restore again.
I don't even care about having root access anymore. I just wanna update, but it still fails even after unfreezing all the frozen apps I had:/
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
You must have a few tiny changes still there that you forgot about. This is what happened to me on my og DROID. Just sbf P3's rooted gingerbread and you will be set. If you need help with sbf there is like 5 threads on it on this forum.
Cheers.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Well, I was just trying to keep it simple you know just hit install and there I go, but I guess not. I even tried deleting all my root apps to see if that would do the trick, but still nope
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Yeah, root sometimes does some tricky stuff with your phone. And it isn't all that complicated to sbf, download the files plug your phone in and click start and your done. Its super easy.
Cheers.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
And um I think you can go into your build.prop and change your forward facing android version, so it tricks the phone into thinking it doesn't need to update. That is if you want to stay on froyo, look around on google if you want to go this route.
Cheers.

sbf to 2.3.3
all you need is RSD and the sbf file for 2.3.3, if it doesn't work the first time try it again. sometimes ya gotta try it twice. and if you want to root it once more there is a one click solution for gingerbread.
here's the link for 2.3.3 sbf

Gingerbread will root it for ya. But there's no SBF file so your screwed if something wrong happens. If you want, go ahead, there's a guide some one posted, I think in the Motorola DROID X2 general forum. But im waiting on the SBF file.

I rooted mine, no problems so far. If there are though, it will be a 3 lb paperweight until the sbf file comes out.
This the address you need for gingerbreak its really easy to use just load the apk

I am thinking about running the MIUI room that just recently came out on ROM manager, but I don't want to flash it if I cannot get back to stock and not receive the GB update when it comes.
Is there a reliable way to get back to stock yet? I have tried making a backup of my current state but every time that I do my X2 restarts...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes you can get back to 100% stock.. There is a flashable SBF that does it.

I don't think MIUI is available for the X2. Check the X2 development forums. The SBF thread in particular. The answer yo your questions are there.
Sent from my DROID X2
I think the naming conventions of Droid's has caused a lot of confusion. Many things have been released for the Droid X and the Droid 2 at the same time, leading people to post about updates to the Droid X/2, which in fact is not the Droid X2.
I know MIUI is available, it is on ROM manager on my X2. And I found out about the imminent GB update on the X2 general forum.
So unless there are a lot more people than me "confused" by the names of Motorolas Phones, than I think it is probably true that GB will be here as a 2.3.4 build soon enough. I think that is why not much development has been done on this phone, why develop on Froyo when GB comes out so soon?

I haven't heard of any X2 owner using ROM Manager. A far as I can tell, to date, there are only derivatives of that chinese ROM floating around. I would research more before you flash whatever you see in ROM Manager. Unless you are skilled enough to un-brick your phone.
But hey... Let me know how that works out for you.

I will see what the DEV part of the forum says, but I will probably try to flash it tonight.
I will let you know how it goes.
Rom manager its probably seeing your phone as the atrix. You don't want to download a rom for the atrix, it will not work and you will be forced to sbf back to stock. There is currently only one rom fire the x2 and at least 3 others in the works.

Had to go back to stock. A slightly annoying process, but i figured I may as well try and let the community know the results.

Got the update last night when I went to bed at 12am. Since I just got the phone two days ago, I was only rooted on 2.3.3 with nothing else done to it. It updated no problems, but I had to re-root after the install was done. Only things I've noticed so far is that everything seems a lot laggier than before. I still need to install recovery and debloat though. I hope that will help.
It seems every other ROM I use has a market issue, even on stock 2.3.4 its telling me I have no apps on my account. Anyone else having these issues? Has anyone found a solution?

I have had this issue for 4 months. Back and forth with Google "support", they are trying to blame it on root access. Basically, no fix. I finally installed Eclipse because I was tired of using a combination of ChangeLogDroid and Appbrain to get updates.
Eclipse fixes it. I think the original issue was caused by Titanium Backup messing up the Market DB.
The real problem is once the damage is done even if you're on a non-rooted stock rom it stays broken. While going back and forth with Google support I SBF'd back to stock and it still didn't fix anything.

I did use titanium backup before it happened. Is it messing something up on the phone or Google servers? After a sbf everything should be stock. Right? Seems like a server or account issue. I created another google account and it works fine. I really just want to go back to stock but can't. Very frustrating!
