[Q] Rooted, Flashed, Unlocked bootloader, now what? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm a little bit stuck right now.
My phone is rooted, I installed Wolf V6 stock version, and now I managed to unlock my bootloader.
I haven't installed doomkernel yet.
Some questions:
-If I flash doomkernel v5-fs , should I choose loader.sin or kernel.sin @ flashtool?
-Do I first need to install Wolf V6 Custom before I flash doomkernel or otherwise?
-Is doomkernel consuming more battery (v5-fs not overclocked)
-Can I just leave it this way? (V6s, unlocked bootloader, nothing else?) and is this the best choice concerning battery life?
Thanks in advance!

Answers.
- Both
- No but you need to make changes to the chargmon file to use doomkernel
- Any overclocking will consume more battery power, just use it sparingly
- Yes - You can test it out by actually just flashing V6c over your current ROM as it uses DoomKernel

About question number 2,
Doomlord mentions this as installation proces:
1.the kernel is now a ftf file so flash using flashtool
2.flash wifi modules using recovery
He doesn't mention anything about a chargemon file ?

You don't need to change anything with your ROM's chargemon files to install his kernel. But any rom that uses a custom kernel comes with modifications to this file. The modifications cause the main kernel (either stock or dommkernel) to crash and then continue to load the kernel that is included with the ROM.
If you want your ROM to run with doomkernel then the modifications have to be removed so that the phone continues to use it rather than the one included with your rom.
I can't tell you exactly what needs to be done because I haven't unlocked my bootloader yet. If you search the doomkernel thread the answer should be there somewhere

So let me get this straight; I'm using V6stock, stock kernel, unlocked bootloader.
I have following options:
-I flash Doomkernel v5-FS with flashtool on my V6Stock Wolf ROM --> No changes are needed?
-I install V6Custom Wolf ROM (wich contains doom v4) --> No changes are needed?
-I install V6Custom and then flash Doomkernel v5-FS --> Here is were the changes in the chargemon file are needed?
So why would someone choose the third option, as the second one contains a custom kernel(Doomkernel)?

Faster boot because you're only loading the kernel once. XRecovery is built into the kernel so if you get a bad Rom flash you won't loose access to it and have to start over with flashtool.
Since I'm not a flashaholic and I may reboot my phone once a week, I've not bothered to unlock my bootloader to install the custom kernel.

Just flash any choice of DooM's kernels then flash wolf's stock version of v06.

Plus on dooms v5 it has a dual recovery, xrec and cwr, and battery is prety good for me... you can try and always move back if you don't like it...

And what if i go back stock with seus? Is my bootloader locked again in that case?

First, why do people keep posting questions to the dev section?!
Second, use flashtool to revert to stock firmware and start over.
First of all, wrong thread and second, wrong site. Ask in modaco site.
Rom is not using xrevovery03. And in kernel is xrecovery03.
Wondering if you are on baseband 71 and did you flash cm7 kernel by mistake.

Why modaco? The problem is not the ROM, as I'm currently using my phone to post this. The issue only came up after flashing the kernel.

Trips Roms are not compatible with custom kernels as he has stated before. you cant flash a custom kernel unless you have an unlocked bootloader (even then i'm not so sure). it stuffs the Recovery. Trips rom doesnt use Xrec 0.3. as a previous post stated you'll have to restore back to official 2.3.3 and re-root reinstall xrec and reinstall rom.

Hmm ok. So I need to flash the global generic 2.3.3 ftf and then do the downgrade / upgrade method? Then I can reinstall xrec and the rom?

Kernel will work. I tried an it worked. I do not what went wrong.
But use xrecovery03 before you flash kernel. Use flash tool GBready to get xrecovery03. You will reconize it by the logo of Z
woah! Don't start again with flashing 2.3 rom, it's unneccessary! you can manually copy/paste the needed files to the rom with a file manager and set the permissions right. But I would recommend you to unlock your bl, flash dooms stock 2.3.3 kernel for unlocked bl's and then the v04b kernel for locked bl's with recovery.
Why? Simple: using dooms stock 2.3.3 kernel means you can't loose xrecovery again, even if you format system partition and reboot you can enter xercoery again, cause it's included in the kernel. Also you can remove then the xrecovery.tar from your system partition cause it's not needed anymore.

[NEO] [TUT] Android 2.3.4 - MT15i 4.0.1.A.0.283 Global with Root Guide

Hello All
This is a guide to install the latest version of Android 2.3.4 - MT15i 4.0.1.A.0.283 Global on your NEO and install root access.
Please note it does not install DooMLoRD's kernel, but uses it to root your phone. This is a workaround until the source of 2.3.4 is released and a new kernel based on 2.3.4 can be released. You will also need to have an unlocked bootloader.
1. Backup your data. (Just in case!)
2. Download the FTF file from here:
http://www.multiupload.com/DGV8GLT1TP
(Thanks to sdk16420 for uploading the update files and thomasafca for making the FTF and uploading!)
3. Flash the FTF file with Flashtool. Unselect 'wipe user data' to preserve data and settings. (You can get flashtool from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012)
4. Restart your phone and turn off. The first time loading will take a bit of time.
5. Download the boot.img from this thread:
[KERNEL][NEO] DooMKernel [Rel: v08][Dt: 01/Sept/2011][FW:4.0.A.2.368]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197263
Thanks to DooMLoRD.
7. Save the boot.img in the folder with fastboot binaries (fastboot.exe file and other files)
8. Turn off the phone and start it in fastboot mode.
9. Use this command:
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
10. This will not install the kernal, but boot the system with this kernal and allow it to autoroot and install SuperUser.
Once this is done, turn your phone off and restart.
You phone will then reset and have root access and 2.3.4!
Enjoy

It was obvious that the latest kernel for 2.3.3 would be used for 2.3.4 as well.
Look at the kernel version numbers for 2.3.3 4.0.A.368 : 2.6.32.9-perf and 4.0.1.A.0.283 : 2.6.32.9-perf.
The conclusion?
I have just finished installing 2.3.4 and DoomKernel v8. Well... it works. So no need to make a new kernel.

That you can root your new FW like that too, should you not want custom kernel.
I'm confirm that. Doomlord v8 kernel works well to 2.3.4 firmware
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
I guess I am more cautious. It may be the same, but I'd prefer to wait untill the source code is released. Or is there a way to check if both kernal's are the same?
Same kernel version?
The source is already released...
For 2.3.4? It's released?
This user posted the Doomlord's Kernal does not have WIFI working. I was just going onto the side of caution, so people can have stock ROM that's just rooted, until it has a wider release No bugs then or unforseen issues.
Still not seeing that it is the same kernel...
And Doomkernel does not cause wifi problems, its SE FW that has this problem, it merely shows out more evidently with tweaks and additions in DoomKernel
---------- Post added at 01:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 PM ----------
Discard that, despite the same version number... I started to have wifi problem as well. Must be some setting in DoomKernel as to what exactly...
i dont get it anymore, will doomkernel work on 2.3.4 or not? (not only root)
and if you have already doomkernel on 2.3.3 can you still update to 2.3.4?
Yes you can update, and yes the kernel boots, works but without wifi.
DoomLord has done quite some changes to networking in his DoomKernel. I had certain problems with my wireless router in 2.3.3 as well, but now with 2.3.4 wifi just stops working at all.

Tried to get root in your way funkyblue, device boots up the Xperia custom bootimage and shuts down. No root. RootXperia method works for my neo.
interesting. Not sure why. It should work and boot.
That is curious indeed. Must be that my device is somewhat... special or otherwise different.

If you want use "rootxperia" that mean you have bootloader already open, and that mean you have partically already "the magical root"
Why do we need root, a rooted phone one more time!
It sounds funny!
Its a joke.
But the point is..."we dont have prerooted 2.3.4.img yet"..

Is WiFi also not functioning using the ClockWorkMod method?
Everything works superbly well. I used this Global 283 ROM ftf:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KWNWTH47
I cleared Dalvik Cache/Cache/User Data/Battery Stats first (still had CWM from DoomLord V8 on 368), then ftf via Flashtool, then NeoRecovery Image (boot only not flash!), then Rootexperia.zip via temporary CWM.
I then removed some of the naff apps using ES Explorer. Not that this is entirely necessary of course. Just tidier!
Really happy with it. No problems or funnies at all. And I'm a picky SoB...
(The trick I learned from previous phones and my own ROM cooking is to clear everything before flashing. A clean deck, as it were.)

Do they require unlocking of bootloader .Actually I am afraid of this purpose. Is there any GB rom that can be flashed without unlocking bootloader on stock kernel 2.6.29 Thanks for Help.
You only need to unlock your bootloader if you need a custom kernel.
All the froyo roms run on the stock kernel, so they can be installed without unlocking the bootloader.
GB roms all run on a custom kernel (on the x10Mini), so you need to unlock the bootloader for that.
If you get S1Tool and post the output, i could probably provide you with some guidance on the safety of unlocking

Yeah !! in the output It shows SEMC something with capital R . Actually date is 10w29. Flashtool is big file and I have a slow connection... Smthng else for unlocking bootloader
it should say semc-simlock certificate, and 10w29 is ok too. you can get the manual scripts for unlocking the bootloader in a slightly smaller package, but the point about unlocking the bootloader is to install a custom kernel... you will need flashtool for that... lol.
I would say, try one of the froyo roms if they're still available, i'm pretty sure froyobread with the hotfix can be downloaded and they can be installed on the stock kernel. but then, those are big downloads too on a slow connection

[Q] How to go back to stock rom when having Custom ROM

Do I have to flash only the stock rom, or I will have to find the stock rom kernel too?
The kernel is already into the stock ftf, that's why when installing stock firmware you use fastboot mode as you would for the kernel

I don't know, because if we flash the stock firmware, we flash it in flashmode, not in Fastboot. I don't know if you should use for example rage kernel...
EDIT:: Sorry just tried it and you were right, I thought I need to flash the stock kernel again. Thank you very much
Did it thanks!
Well not really, the processes are pretty much alike. Fastboot is a flashing method that allows writing unsigned partition from host usb directly to the filesystem, which is disabled in standard bootloaders (which is why you need unoocked bl to flash most custom kernels) but if you flash the whole ftf (which already contains the necessary boot filesystem as it is standalone fw) you use flash because all installation steps are executed in the correct sequence...
Anyways, enough with the spam. Stock FW all have stock kernel embedded, just try flashing it and check kernel versions and ou'll see
Download official ftf file from Sony website and flash it via flashtool.. Kernel would be installed ... You don't have to worry...
