Thanks for stopping to read this.
I wanted to know if this has been rooted yet, and also if I can load it up to honeycomb yet?
On a side note does anyone know if the snes and other emulators work well on it?

Hello,
Replacing with the firmware makes the device root. You have multiple to choose from. TNT lite. Vegan Etc..
I have not seen honeycomb firmware yet but the word is that the devs are looking in to in and will be available once it is fully tested.
I have seen the emulators work on the viewsonic so the question to that is YES..
Enjoy..
I think most of us bought this for the hardware knowing that Android developers will eventually bring us everything we want and more. If the tab can't do "it" now I am sure it will soon.

Thanks, it will be here tomorrow. I just needed to find the specs sheet on tiger and was sold. Can't believe it's a 150 dollars off right now, it's less then my cellphone was. Glad it is on sale, it can replace the crappy dual boot viewsonic tablet I got. Wish it had said on the site hey this isn't real android on here.
I was also reading, people say flashing a CFW is simple with the gtablet. Something about how there are no blocks or anything in the way to keep you from doing it which is great. So I will just look around in here for the how to flash unless it's as simple as CWM.
Yep, just CWM! Though, possibly a touch more than normal with a simple phone, like the Droid. You need to repartition it in CWM for best results, then wipe everything, then install the ROM. Depending on the ROM, you most likely will want to install GAPPS after. That's pretty much it! Most of the ROMs come with decent kernels, I've noticed.
Good thread to step through the process.

It is real android, they just their own "layer" on top of it. It is fairly easy to install another Rom on this thing, just make sure you read, understand, and follow the directions carefully.
Once you get it installed, unless you feel comfortable with possibly having to do a bit of work if you "mess it up", I would try not to fool around with it too much. I've installed Vegan-Tab 5.1.1, and a kernel, and it runs fine, so I try to just use it as is...
back it up with nvflash before you start rooting....that will prevent you from bricking your tab. I just got mine last week and its amazing how well it works . I am currently testing our different roms on it to see which one I like the best. Vegan 5.1.1 and TNT Lite 4.4 are pretty nice to start off with.

Always good to backup, I assume as long as you get that even if you totally mess up you can just reflash it and try again. It will be here tomorrow around 11ish, so once I get done at the office going to get a few ciders and attack this thing.

Depending on the package, it will be some of the missing Google stock apps. such as the Market.
One other thing - boot it and set up wireless so you can get any over the air updates before you put a new ROM on.

Thanks mate, I planned to try out the stock first just to see what they did with it.
Oh, one other thing. How is the screen on this? Nice and clear? I only ask cause on the viewpad 10 I bought some months back, well the screen looks awful unless you got it maxed brightness, it just always looks like there is dust on it.

I think it looks really good, as long as you are at the right angle. You probably heard that it has a narrow field of view if you tilt it up or down (while being held in landscape). But, when looking at a decent angle (tilted less than 45 degrees, maybe?) the screen itself is bright and clear.

That sounds about the same for the angles as the viewpad 10. My only problem was that it honestly always looks like a dusty. But I will know for sure in about 3 hours when I am done here. Don't most tablets have issues if you try to tilt them too much one way or another?

Great news
Its still a lil too advanced for me to use yet, but the ball is rolling fast now. Has there been any word on the potential stable speed of the tegra when overclocked. My incredible was never stable beyond stock.
I did it it, and it was way easier than I thought it was going to be. Not going to bother with the chinese rom though. I haven't heard anyone say it was any better than stock, so why bother.

Eh, not rolling tooo fast, its rolling the same its been for the past week, people are just over hyping everything TOO MUCH, and that rom is practically an update.zip but Chinese (from what i gathered i may be wrong)
Im thinking of trying the chinese rom this weekend to see if I can muddle though the settings and change it to english. I dont read or speak, much less write, chinese. If anybody can tell me that this can or cant be done, let me know before I spend to much time on it... Please....

I got curious and decided to start looking at the files in the zip (one-by-one). So far, each file that I have opened is in English. Since the SBF does work, I'm wondering what would it hurt to at least give it a try and if it all comes up in Mandarin, then I can simply clean everything off and go back to how things were before. I'm not a dev, and I don't pretend like I could be one or know what I'm doing. I know how to flash, sbf and most importantly - ask for help when there's something I don't understand. I haven't seen anything (in the files I've viewed so far) that would lead me to believe that this is anything other than a normal ROM that the Chinese just happen to have.
If anyone else has any thoughts on this matter, please share. My curiosity may just be in overdrive and i've been hungering so long for a ROM that this might just be desperation and a case of huberus of the worst magnitude. I welcome all learned comments/suggestions on the matter.
Thanks in advance family.
If you erase data prior to flashing the rom, when you reboot, it will be at the initial android activation screen. It will be in chinese, but you can simply click the icon in the bottom right hand corner and change to english. Only problems I've ran into so far using this method is that the paid is that paid market doesn't seem to work. But with the new market available, you may just be able to install it over top and bring back full functionality.
Once I return home im going to make an all night attempt st conjuring something up based on this rom, I'll post it if I accomplish anything.

Now that is some MAJOR information that I needed to know. Thank you so very much. I will most definitely be trying this tonight when I get home from work. I feel like a kid with a new toy....is that bad? Oh well, can't help myself. Have to tinker. It will be interesting to see what happens during the next step of the test - seeing if it has the same problems as the stock version (rebooting when it wants to, powering itself off while in the charging dock, etc.) We won't even discuss Quadrant speeds or overclocking yet. I think that's the stuff I will leave to you experts. I'm a major novice who is a pseudo adrenaline junkie when it comes to my phone. I'm like Tim Allen wanting it to have "more power, grunt grunt'.
I'll stop being silly now and rather I will thank you again for the heads-up...it is greatly appreciated.
This is exactly the info I was looking for. I am not a dev either. I just know enough to get myself in trouble and then get out of it, most of the time..... I do believe we can just replace the market and if that is so that will be awesome. the next thing we are going to have to figure out is if and how we remove the chinese bloat.
About the issues affecting the stock ROM we have at the moment, from my understanding, the chinese one is basically the same. So the same issues may still exist...
I will attempt this tonight after work and a backup so that I can wipe and sbf to start from scratch...
Its great to see interest and attempts at advancing our current state of affairs, even if the progress is minimal. Progress is PROGRESS people!!!!
TIA
So I just flashed the Chinese ROM.... I did what c21johnson said and switched it to English using the bottom right hand button... After that its pretty much the same as usual, log in, configure VZW and Google access and then you get to the default moto blur crap that came with the phone... Some bloat has been removed, but again as has been stated previously some has been added... Two apps that are in Chinese that cant be uninstalled... Aside from that its all the same... I am restoring back to the backup I did before flashing the Chinese ROM as it is absolutely nothing special.....
Has anyone tried to overclock the chinese room? I heard its the same as original rom, but since its a custom kernal, it might be able to be overclocked.

Good question

Does it really have a custom kernel?
If it does then we should be mining Chinese forums to figure out how because someone would have had to sign it with our locked bootloader. I bet its stock.

This works great!
I've even recovered from a brick using the SBF and a nandroid recovery from the System Recovery on this. So when are we going to start seeing some ROMs?
Has anyone been successful in using this on a Motorola Milestone X2? I created this thread and skwoodwiva was extremely helpful in trying to help me out but it seems I still can't figure out what I might be doing wrong:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20295079#
Umm, someone needs to explain more about this. It doesn't seem to be anything that isn't already out for us, just it's in Chinese. I see no reason to use this or even have it posted here at all unless you can unlock the bootloader...has anyone tried that yet? I won't hold my breath on this btw.
I fail to see how this is different...our current recovery requires being plugged into a wall, why use this instead?
An oldie but goodie thread This is where our bootstrap came from...
That makes much more sense...I didn't look at the thread date, thanks mastafunk
New way to use this apk
Many thanks to Tenfar for the apk. This is the same but it is not installed form your file manager it is flashed with recovery mode already enabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426062
It writes to /preinstall , /system/bin and /data (just as the recovery mode-ON apk does) BUT NOT to /data/data (as the apk relies on). Also charge mode is not available as it needs to be recovery enabled in order to save "you" on a bad rom flash or data data wipe.
Why use it? You may ask:
With this you can now safely do a data wipe and still reboot into cwr by just flashing this as the last step before "reboot system now" it will save you from SBFing if anything keeps you from booting.
System Recovery to requires you to have a WALL CHARGER being plugged into the computer will not work

Looks okay , But was hoping for more a Honeycomb GUI , as ive just got rid of a 2.3 Tablet to get the HP touch pad to flash to 3.0 but will 3.0 ever happen for the Touch pad ?
The general consensus seems to be that HC will not appear on the TP; as the source code was never released by Google.
What is more likely to happen is that 2.3.5 will be on the initial CM release for the Pad; with ICS being the next logical step, once it's released.
I may be wrong,
But I believe that is the long and short of it.
Hope this helps.
ugh! I would settle for 1.6 just so it is not the ugly webOS cripple.
I actually kind of like WebOS.
The not-having-multiple-screens-to-swipe-left-or-right thing takese a bit of getting used to (I'm not sued to it yet).
But I do like bouncing apps away, to close them.
That being said,
I definitely favor Android over all other O/S.

I am really hoping this progresses fast and works well. I actually enjoy webOS card system but the lack of apps is disappointing. I would much rather be able to run android on a card.
Either way though, I plan on installing android whether it's dual boot or via card.

if you want to O/C again, you have to doctor 3.0.2 back on, then redo the preware etc.
as for the apps, put them in that folder and they will auto install, thats what i did, and got titanium installed (even tho its useless/keeps crashing, i had it available)

So I love CM7, and was using it until recently when I loaded stock back onto it (it's just not a complete phone without the fingerprint scanner/webtop.)
I put on ADW which is the stock dock for CM7. However it's restricted me to 5 screens (boo).
Is there anything else I can do to get that Cyanogen feel without actually loading on Cyanogen again and losing those aforementioned features?

ADW Ex allows you to change the number of screens?
also, the Alien skin is pretty AOSP looking. compared to some of the others at least, it reminds me of Androidian that comes with CM7.
Thanks, although I was hoping not to spend any cash since as soon as CM7 gets those features I'm dumping this for that ROM.
I was also looking for other apps that could mimic some of the functionality, or am I out of luck on that?

well, CM7 got the fingerprint scanner updated in a test build last night. if that's not enough to bring you over, then i'm guessing you'll not see CM7 again for a long time.

this made me LOL
So I posted in the build thread, but thought maybe someone might have a quick answer that I've missed.
I Unlocked (I used the 1.83 clean SBF since megaupload was down and I couldn't find the 2.3.4 one) then followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
and some youtube videos and some other sites lol, it was VERY stumbly getting it to give root, the unlock went fine, I think I could have even done it on the stock install I had, but I didn't... I used the 1.83 sbf in the pudding thread. (not sure if that was the right thing to do or not. I'm kind of confused on the whole rolling back thing and how it gets bricked with certain roms. I also didn't do a back up of my stock locked install so I have no idea how to get back to stock but I don't really care about that now)
Rom'd this Tablet UI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532182
and ran the Gappsv10 linked there. That didn't work, ran it again then it did work for gmail voice talk... but Maps, navigation, g+ all won't install and show as incompatible with my device. Same goes for FB Foursquare, Netflix, and tons of other apps... Not sure if I did something wrong or if this is normal. Oh I also tried running the latest Gapps v12 still no dice.
Any help is appreciated, I just don't have too much time to figure all this crap out... I dip in and out of romming phones for brief periods and everything changes so much and each phone is so different it always takes me forever to figure out what's what.
Since I'm begging for easy pointers which everyone hates, might as well go all in...
I want an ICS rom that has Gentop or Full Ubuntu or whatever for use in the laptop dock... is that doable?
I'll pay someone who's willing to hold my hand through getting my perfect rom sorted out. $30 first offer? It will be a pain though... I ask lots of questions.
I love XDA but I sure do wish people were a little more noob friendly and elaborate in their replies... buzz words and quippy short answers don't do it for me.
I've been doing this for years and once I know my way around a phone I'm more than happy to do so myself, and on all the car forums I'm on I try to give thoughtful complete replies to noobs, remember we were ALL noobs once at EVERYTHING.
I'm a little loopy on pain meds for a kidney stone so forgive me if this is a little ranty.
No one?
I'm going to try to reinstall the rom again. I did all the wipes and formats and reset etc before getting it running the first time....
But I rom'd cm9 last night and did the signed gapps install (tried that on the tablet ui too) and maps/navigation and all the prev. not working apps work fine...
There are a few apps that don't work but they were few and far between. CM9 is great, only downside I've seen so far is no video which is kinda big for me, I've got kids so half of my phone use is video's.... but so far I love ICS/CM.
Ensure you are using the correct gapps version. This one is for cm7.

thanks, I think either the rom I had didn't install right or is borked.
I installed clean cm9 nightly and all gapps work fine.
If only the camera and finger print scanner worked.. webtop wouldn't hurt either but overall I'm REALLY impressed with cm9 on an unsupported device.
Runs smooth hardly any glitches decent battery life.
Thanks again
