Im on 2.1 update1 and want to root so I can use some custom roms and speed up my X10 by deleting stupid apps etc. I have tried z4root X10root and Universal Androot but none of them work and im sure this is because of the update1. Is there anything I can do or are there any updated root apks ? Can't use usb caple to use flashtool etc because port is broken. Please only post if you have answers. Dont post to say things like use warranty etc because obviouslyi have tried all this. Thanks in advance.
Even if you say don't tell you to go and get your port fixed I'm still going to tell you to do that.
1.You have to use a PC to root your 2.1update1 phone.
2. You may wanna upgrade to 2.3 and/or unlock your bootloader, which requires you to connect your phone to a PC via USB.

looks like im screwed then
Sorry to bump this thread. Just wanted to know if there were any updates as to whether there is anyway to root without usb when im on 2.1 update1.

Im a user of xperia 10 mini on 2.1 android. I need to install some of my apps on the sdCard but people said it only can be done on 2.2 (froyo) or by using app2sd.
The first option was too difficult and high risk (in fact i cant do it, the second was my issue here.
I cant root my x10 mini (2.1), i've been using these: z4root, terminal emulation push some .apk from this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739874 threat, universalRoot, and the last i use SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse. I put my interest in this apps, coz most people said they've succeed use this app (on 2.1 (eclair)) but i found it keep loop and loop. I've toggle the usb debuging but its doesnt work.
Please help me, the poor eclair, help me o' masters of android

The thing is that the very last version of the x10 mini firmware cannot be rooted yet, so if you want to root your phone, you have to flash the previous version of eclair with bin4ry's flash tool and then root it using z4root. sorry for my english too

what about my chance of bricking my phone?
can i rollback my installation (flash)?

I have the newest firmware: "2.1-update1" - "2.0.A.0.504" updated via SEUS 2 days ago and have managed to root it (Eventually) using "SuperOneClickv1.5.5".
It took a while and was a bit trial-and-error to find the exact time to disconnect/disable USB debugging but it does work! - Keep trying!!!
I am currently looking into installing App2SD which, apparently, can be easiest done via XRecovery (Once your phone is rooted).
This seems one of the most comprehensive sources that I have found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833722
Hope this helps and please can someone correct me if I am wrong because I have only been using Android for a week (Plenty of experience with other devices though!)

it is soo sad that i cant even flash my phone using the tools you mentions. The program that you give me, the roms, they keep searching for my x10 mini, when i realize my not in the flash mode, so i reboot my phone while keep pressing the back button, the little green light coming out, i switch to my PC only to see the message stay the same..
see endless dots and "Searching for Xperia...." message
people say my phone is invisible to the flasher, so how to make her visible?
with the correct usb driver you said, but sire, i currently using the SEUS thing, is there any more correct driver than this SEUS thing?
so,.. couldnt blame bin4ry for his nordic invention, just they people from the Sony Erricson for their hard-to-crack-cage...

Are you sure that your phone is actually in "USB Debugging mode"?
Click Settings --> Applications --> Development and then Put a tick in the "USB Debugging" box.
Once connected to windows, this should add extra drivers for "Sony Ericsson sa0101 ADB Interface Driver"
SuperOneClick is extremely tempermental when connecting but I have now used it on 3 phones.
Exactly what version ROM are you using?
I used standard drivers provided with the newest PC suite downloaded from SE.
I've already switching usb debugging mode all night long, maybe i just dont get the correct timing right?
i dont really know what rom im using, but the version on firmware are 2.1-update1 and the kernel are 2.6.29 build 2.0.2.A.0.24
can you give me the right time to switch mode? i mean what is the right text on the console for the switching?
thnx bro

hey try this , i got this edited by someone here , i forgot who , btw give it a try , i successfully root x10i and the others mini pro , haha , it is actually same as super one click just the rageagainstthecage been customized , try it
Run super one click as admin and it works on the 5th or 6th try for me.
if it gets stuck on installing SU, enable and disable usb debug.

Ok I just got an x10 that is running 1.6. I know nothing about android phones I was an iphone user so this is very new to me. Do I need to upgrade first or do I need to root it first. Can someone please provide me with the links to the threads I need to do this in? Like I said I am very new to this and I do not want to brick this phone. Also whats the latest version that i can upgrade to where everything works
congratulations on turning away from the darkside!.. There are a few things you can do and it really depends on how far you want to push it..
You can upgrade it then root it and stick largely to the stock ROM - remove any of the junk that you don't need but SE thinks you need.. and install JIT (Just In Time Compiler) to improve performance..
or you can go the whole hog and root it, and flash a custom rom onto it.. this option appears to be slightly riskier - a few people seem to have got very messed up phones doing this - but most (99%?) seem to be okay..
My preference is to upgrade to 2.1 (make sure you've got the dual touch version) - because your in America I assume that you have and X10a - so you'll need to download flashtool to your pc from here. and install the canadian X10a firmware.
probably most of what you want to do is here.
I would recommend you to use the Upgrade Service which is available in Sony Ericsson's website. It has detailed on-screen instructions and I think it is the easiest way to upgrade your phone to the newest 2.1 firmware with dualtouch.
After that, you might find it useful to root your device using binary's flash tool (one-click).
Download the flashtool from Androxyde's thread on the Development forum. Then flash the latest 2.1 FW with the latest baseband and Dual touch. Then use the Root option in the flash tool. Then download Root Explorer app and install XRecovery. At that point you can flash any ROM u want without a PC. That is the easiest wasy to do it and if u follow the directions its foolproof.
Do it all in that order.
Edit: There is no reason to use the SE Update Service if you are going to use the flashtool to root. Everything should be done from the flashtool. And nobody who has followed the procedures has "messed up" their phone by doing any of this. Just dont do anything if you dont know what it is or cant find references on how it works. Because the X10 Bootloader cannot be accessed there is virtually nothing you can do to permanently "brick" your phone, any issues that arise can generally be repaired by restoring a backup or reflashing the FW.

don't think he'll be able to upgrade using SEUS.. I don't think that America have released the upgrade! worth a try though, unless someone from that part of the world can confirm
Yes att has no upgrade for USA so don't bother with seus except for repairs.

I agree with this. I started this week with an X10a and fully upgraded to 2.1.1 sumting..anyways I did "brick" my phone once but no worries I just reflashed using the remove battery method and flash tool. While I did have everything working my battery died from a full charge overnight. So now I'm using Erick Will's Custom .435+Arc+Timescape. Most stable from what I've read so far.

I got my X10 about a week ago (was free from my Sony Rep) and as soon as I got it, I rooted and flashed 2.1 on it (baseband .54). To root I used android central sideload wonder machine.
To flash 2.1 I used flashtool as stated in an earlier post. Once 2.1 is installed find the ROM you want to run, and use xRecovery to flash it. I personally think CM 6.1.3 is one the better ROMs out there, but find the one that works for you.

hi all,
as usual, i hope this isn't a double post.
i'm wondering, when the official gingerbread update arrives, will it work on old basebands??
the reason for this question is because my x10 has a broken usb port and i'm stuck in baseband 2.1.54.
would devs make gingerbread roms based on the official rom for older basebands??
this is bothering me so much because i love my x10 and it would break my heart if i couldn't update my x10 to a fully working gingerbread.
thx for ur input

Might not work most likely not there is a new baseband and kernel required
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Do you know what pin on the usb port that is the broken one?
when you connect the phone to the computer, does anything show up?
What I mean is that if your connect has +5V or -5V broken it would still show upon the computer but wouldn't charge (i think), so maybe the phone wouldn't get in charging state but could be connected.
Else the best would be to open and try to fix the broken connector, i don't think this would be too expensive to pay for.
Unless the connection for the usb is broken on the "chip port" and is not a connector broken.
I looked at bunch of threads with fixes but I'm no good at insides of gadgets and it would cost me $70 to fix it at a shop; I would rather replace it for $200 or wait for hardware upgrade if it came down to that though.
I was reading this thread earlier today and I just remembered about this, I was just on the market and I came across this app called Software Data Cable by Proid Mobile Inc. This app can let you transfer files/folders from computer to phone without the need to use a usb.. This could be the solution for the op is looking for if he wants to upgrade to gingerbread. Its free btw... Have a look at it read the faq as it states and let us know if it works.
The software data cable app uses wifi and ftp to transfer your files. Even xrecovery is going to be gone while the phone gets a new kernel.

Oh ok, wasnt aware of that. Would you be able to take the micro sd and place it into a card reader then transfer the files that way? Out of curiosity.

Impossible as flashing baseband or seus repair requires to be connect in flash mode, so there is no system running on it.
When they manage to get full control of the kernel and bootloader you may have a chance!

Well not knowing exactly how all this works I figure I saw it i'll post it and see what everyone says.
Hello!
I was wondering how to know if a Xperia X10 was rooted. And how would I boot to recovery menu if it is?
My girlfriends X10 was locked to Orange and she wanted it unlocked. After phoning Orange to do it they somehow managed to kill her phone! I took it to a phone repair/unlock place and they had it for a couple of days but said they couldn't get it working again. However when I tried it the phone worked fine and was successfully unlocked!
The phone was on gingerbread but is now eclair. Also the boot up sequence has different graphics I've not seen before. I'm assuming the guy in the shop has rooted the phone to install this different version of the OS on, but how can I be sure?!
Thanks for reading!
Cheers
Wagster
Hi guy,
In your menu search for an app named "superuser",if you find it means your gf's device was rooted if not that means that device wasn't rooted.
For xrecovery menu,
Restart the device and when you see Sony Ericsson logo push the back bottom on your phone again and again,if it has xrecovery it goes to the menu..
Good luck.
Sent from my X10 using Tapatalk
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately no superuser app and I can't get to recovery so doesn't seem to be rooted.
There's a few apps on there like "AT&T Maps" so it looks like the guy put an AT&T version of android on. How could he do that if it wasn't rooted?
I'll try to find a way to root it and stick cyanogen mod on...
att maps is probably a free app.....use the flashtool to root your phone...its literally the simplest thing.....download the 2.9.1. flashtool in the development thread and turn usb debugging on in your phone...and just click the root button through the flash tool...and it will root it for you...as for xrecovery its the same things...root and clock the recovery button..and its on .....pm me if you get confused
Hit thanks if I helped!

Thanks for your help everyone. I'll give the flashtool a go this evening if my girlfriend lets me!
She quite liked the standard SE gingerbread operating system. What would be the best custom ROM to install to give the most SE like experience whilst retaining useful root & superuser tools?
I'll try to convince her to try Cyanogen mod at some point but I think she'd like to stick with the familiar for now!
Are there any stable (or semi stable) ICS ROMs available yet?!
You can just root it and leave it at that. That way it's just the same but you can use extra stuff etc.
