Any body have a clue why my 3d wont boot? I can't even get into boot loader. Its brand new, and rooted. not even a month old. I was in recovery and wen to NAND Menu, and it shut off on me. It doesnt throw the charging light on or anything and it wont be boot.
Anybody that knows something that can help?
Sprint ~ get a replacement. Tell them you were doing the OTA update and the phone shut off on you.
was the battery low ?
Yeah the battery was low about 16% going into recovery. was wiping to nand, and before i started nand restore, it powered off. and it never turned back on. was on twrp. doesnt charge, no hboot, nothing! and I dont have insurance with sprint. i bought the phone from a girl who never activated it. its literally a mouth old.
Any options?
When my battery dies, it takes about ten to fifteen minutes to charge before it starts up again. Hopefully that is all it is.
What? Hero is evolving... Hero evolved into EVO 3D!

Its a too low battery! First, take the battery out of the phone for a minute. Press power button a couple times. Insert battery and plug in stock charger. Let it sit off for about a half hour with the charger plugged in. Now press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds or until your phone turns on. This is a common problem when the battery gets fully discharged.
Remember, the phone does not charge when it is in recovery mode and it is highly recommended that you do not perform operations in recovery mode unless you have at least 35% battery remaining. If you started at 16% you fully discharged your battery.
If you decide to tell sprint it happened during an OTA, note that you will most likely get an HBOOT 1.50 and will not be able to get a correct, full S-OFF.
What cruise said is true. This issue happened on 2 of my phones but stopped on my third one when I needed a geek squad replacement.

i think mine charges the battery up to 99% but to be honest, i haven't focused attention on the exact percentage.
I did the OTA to 1.13 and it patches quite a few things. i don't think you *have* to update and i haven't noticed much difference before and after. the only official update information i quickly saw was from searching google was this: http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo3d-sprint/downloads/ . They describe the update as : This update fixes issue of calendar entries in certain formats force closing during edits . Looking at the update .zip file, I pulled it from the cache before loading it, it touches a lot of files. Perhaps somebody has more details on the OTA ...
I remember back when I first got my EVO3D on launch day it to for dreaming ever to fully charge.

Most of the time, mine seems to cap out at 99%. It did that the first couple of nights I had it (where it spent the whole night on the charger), as well as when I've plugged it in at work. Today I saw 100% for the first time.
Doesn't worry me.
Does the same for me. If I in plug it, then plug it back in and wait about 20 min it finally gets to 100 percent. Pretty strange I'd say. I'm on silverneedle and viper-rom btw.

wow, this is definitely different scenario than your OP.
when you press power on the phone, there is absolutely no response? LED doesn't flash at all, screen wont turn on? you've tried the vol down + pwr and vol up + pwr?
the only easy solution i can think of is a bad battery. and by easy, i mean you could get a new battery and see if the phone turns on and that would be a cheaper easy fix. otherwise, i'd probably take it back to where you bought it and/or sprint as it definitely sounds like a hardware issue.
if you aren't able to turn it on, they shouldn't be able to either. as long as your water/wet stickers show the phone hasn't been wet, they should be able to replace it.
good luck! let us know how it turns out!

Well, the stickers are normal, concidering i just bought it yesterday and i looked
and well, i charged it fully, 100% and made a ~2 hour phone call and got to 68%. then it sat for an hour while on psn call of duty, then i went to reboot for thr OTA, and it just went BLEH. NO leds, no screen, no nada.
Just a half lit charging led wven though NO charger connected.
EDIT
Went to best buy and the guy examined the phone like a car. and was completely astounded that it wont turn on. tried 3 chargers and a new battery and ended up replacing it xD
I put my phone on the charger last night just like every other night, and awoke this morning to the screen frozen, displaying the time of 12:35am. No buttons were responding, so I pulled the battery and put it back in. It won't boot up, no lights, no nothing. Tried my spare batteries, still nothing. Tried all my chargers and nothing happens when plugged in. Dead.
Rooted, with UnNamed rom, but haven't flashed anything in months.
Is this thing dead, or can it be brought back with a jig?
EDIT: Thanks for the troubleshooting tips, but this baby is dead.dead...now I have to return it and hope that warranty stays intact...
This may sound stupid but, did you have the phone under your pillow while charging?

No it was docked in the Samsung charging stand...
Pull your battery and leave it out for at least 10 minutes... go for 30. Then put your battery back in and try it. The purpose is to completely deplete all of your electronic resistors and capacitors of any power.

Reason I asked is it can make the phone overheat, it happened to me and many others on here.
I woke up to the same situation as you did and had to pull the battery and wait a bit then charge it back cause it was dead.
Ok battery out for 30+ minutes, and popped it back in - still nothing, dead as a doornail...
Should I try a jig before taking it to warranty, just to make sure that they aren't going to be able to boot it and see I rooted?
If there's anything I can do to avoid having to go buy a phone at full price to get me through the weekend, that would be awesome...going out of town in the morning and can't be without a phone...
I had that happen to a Captivate. Go to an AT&T warranty place and they can swap it.

Yeah unfortunately it sounds pretty dead :-(
I had this happen a few months ago. I think it has to do with how it deals with a completely dead battery. The symptom is that the phone is either completely unresponsive or will show the battery logo with a circle and then quickly power off. This is how I got around it:
-First pull out the battery, and leave the back cover open.
-Get a microUSB cable plugged into your PC at the ready, but not plugged into the phone yet. This will not work with the wall charger.
-Hold down vol down, vol up, and power, and then plug in the USB cable. In a few seconds you'll see the download mode "Custom OS" dialog with a yellow triangle.
-Do not press any buttons after this point.
-Plug in the battery, and let it sit for 10-30 minutes.
-After the battery's had enough time to get a base charge, hold the power button until the screen turns black.
-If the battery has enough charge to begin charging, you should see the full-screen battery logo with a "progress wheel" circle in the middle change to the battery with the five dots below. This means the charger is now active.
-You can now let it charge off of USB, or move it to the wall charger for a faster charge.
Again, this is what's worked for me. Post here if you are having any luck with this method.
I have a Captivate that died on me in the exact same fashion two days ago. I'm deciding whether to wait a few months for new releases or just getting a SGSII. ATT is offering it for $10 with a contract renewal.
Since my phone is out of warranty, is there any other way to get it replaced?

Surprisingly I had the same EXACT situation occur as the OP. I set my phone down charged via USB last night and next morning I woke up to an extrememly luke warm phone with nothing turning on, it was a blank screen and I for sure thought the battery was dead...
Ended up at Radioshack in search for a spare battery to use, but the employee's were assholes and wouldn't let me borrow one from out of their SGS2 displays, so I decided at this point to just find a battery online and be phone-less for a few days.
Thanks to pokey for this little gameplan he had written out, , it appears there still is life in my lil' R2D2... at least it appears to be.
Edit: Yep it worked, just have to wait for it to charge now--those who have this problem follow pokey's steps and this should direct you on the right path. Good luck!!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me, thanks though, had high hopes and tried it several times. I picked up a jig and no life with that either. Dead.
Oh well...warranty phone is supposed to arrive today, can't wait to take back this WP7 abomination (had to try it).
So since this phone is verified as dead now, is there anything to worry about in sending it back through warranty since I'm unable to wipe/unroot it?
This scares the crap out of me since I just got my phone. Good tips to try if it does happen.
Can it be concluded that it has something to do with leaving the charger on it after it is fully charged? Maybe something with the voltage regulator(?) that tells the charger to stop charging when the battery is full.
I have dewalt drills that I swear lose life if you leave them on the charger for long periods of time consistently (even though they are to stop charging when the battery is full). Whats weird about these problems is that it killed the phone too, not just the battery.

Yes you should worry, at&t might not be able to get it up and running but Samsung will, and when they get the device up and running they will see the root & rom so expect a very large phone bill in 1-2 months.

Well that's just friggin' great
My sgsii died on me while rooted and I swapped it out for warranty and did not incure a bill from AT&T or Samsung. It's been about 6 months now so I'm pretty sure they just used it for spare parts.
The funny part of the story is my current sgsii died the other day won't turn on at all. Got my jig today and that doesn't work either. I will try pokeys method and hopefully it works for me.

While you could be correct, I don't see Samsung sinking the labor time into looking that closely. I'm guessing they just hook it up to something that'll push the firmware, test functionality, and send it out as a refurb.
I could very well be wrong, but when you get hundreds/thousands of dead devices like they do, its more cost effective to just keep it simple and move onto the next.
I've never returned a device, stock or customized, so this is just my guess based on experience working with a large corporation.
Hey guys Ive been running A1 since released with a few problems here and there but nothing to serious until this morning.
My phone died over night and when I turned it on it hangs at the Motorola logo. So i pulled the battery and held down the power while it turned on and bam it turns on.
It says charging (5%) and wont charge. Turns off about a minute of it being on. Ill pull battery do that monkey business all over again and the phone will turn on saying Charged. Bam turns off about a minute in.
Been an on going process all day trying to get it to take charge.
Is it safe to sbf with that low of a battery life? or Is there some trick that im missing to get this phone to charge again.
So wrapped up: Phone wont charge off because it hangs at M logo, and wont charge on because it turns itself off about a minute into being on
It seems a lot of people dont charge their phone at night. I find that odd. lol.
Anyway, Alpha 1 had instructions in the OP that said if your battery died, you had to plug it in and hold the power button until your phone booted up, then it will start charging once it does. This had to do with the hijack.zip alpha 1 came with.

Well if the percentage is going up, I guess just keep trying until it has enough battery to hold its own.
And by the way, doing an SBF with a low battery is not good. I dont even think it will let you.
All:
Tonight my 4GLTE was plugged into it's charging cord and was at about 95% battery. I received a phone call, picked up the phone and pushed "answer". When I did the phone turned off and it won't turn back on. I've tried the "on & down volume" many times and nothing will happen. When I plug the power cord in the charging light isn't coming on.
I have had no problems with the phone. I'm on the Tranquility ROM and everything has been perfect. When I went through the S-off process back in Dec. the phone "bricked", it acted exactly like the phone is now, will not turn on, no lights come on, nothing. The great people at Dirty Racun walked me step by step through their procedure to unbrick the phone and it started up and has been perfect from Dec. til tonight.
I'm baffled and wish like hell this phone had a battery I could pull. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
thanks,
DC
I take it the capacitive lights don't light up when you hold the power button down for several seconds?
Leave it plugged in overnight and try to power it on in the morning.

I know is very frustating cause It's happened to me as well.
I did some searching and found some tips. Nothing solid.
Leave the phone charging even though the led doesn't turn one. Sometimes for me it will revive after a while being plugged.
Other is to hold the power button for a very long time. 1-2 minutes and hope it reboots.

Nothing lights up, that's why I described it as being dead. I'm not a novice with these phones as far as rooting and installing ROMs etc. One item I left out last night is that in the last few weeks I've had to "move" the micro usb connector around to get the charge light to come on. It would always light up and charge but had probably gotten worse, not better. Also I have my Evo4G (which I just activated so I have a phone) and with this charge cord I also have to move it around to get it to activate the charging light. I'm going to buy a fresh micro usb cord this morning in the hope that the new cord will make a difference.
I'm really not optimistic that a new cord will change anything. I declined to buy the insurance for the phone when I got it in Dec. I;ve had bad experiences with Sprint and their cost to repair the Evo4G even with the insurance. I think I'm going to install Unix on my netbook again and try the procedure that Dirty Racun walked me through when the phone "bricked" last Dec. They brought it back to life for me although this time I'm afraid it has something to do with the usb port causing the phone to shut off and die. As I said last night, the phone was charged to 95% when the call came in and I picked the phone up and it suddenly went black.
I love this phone and having to go back to the Evo4G is a real step backwards, plus I've got lots of data on the internal SD card of the LTE that I need. I'm in pulling my hair out mode now....thanks for the suggestions, if anyone thinks of anything else please let me know.

Went through this a few days ago. Battery was at 40% and i was playing CSR Racing from the market. Anyways, my phone got super hot so i ended the game and went back to my home screen....few seconds later screen went off and phone was unresponsive. Nothing i did could make it turn on again tried for a few hours. My sister has a evo lte as well so i took apart our phones and switched her battery in place of mine and voila it booted up. Didn't expect the battery to just go out like that.

That's interesting, my battery has been excellent. I do remember a few weeks ago it getting really hot while charging but it's been fine ever since. I've got the phone apart now. I needed to replace the glass screen and bought, what I thought, were replacement parts for the lcd-glass screen. I've just found out from a video that the lcd and glass screen come together as one part. I don't know if I can take the broken one off and install the new glass screen or if I have to buy the lcd and glass. I'm ticked off because the ebay seller claimed this is all I needed to replace a cracked screen OR an unresponsive LCD touchscreen. I'm glad I didn't pay much for the glass.
Thanks for the info about replacing the battery.
DC
Update: I talked with a Sprint rep at a corporate store yesterday and he told me to bring the LTE in and he was certain HTC would fix/replace it under the 12 month warranty as long as there was no physical damage "not turning on could be blamed for". I told him damage didn't cause it to suddenly go black while plugged in at 95% charge when a call came in.
I'll have to replace my screen before taking it in although the truth is my screen had a crack in it for 2 months before this happened and had nothing to do with the phone bricking itself suddenly.
Any updates?
My wife's phone had this happen at a ridiculously inconvenient time.
Here's what to try:
1. Pseudo-Battery-Pull: Hold power button for 15 seconds, this will force the phone to shut down (if it works). Try powering back up. If nothing, then:
2. Hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power for 2 MINUTES, and then release. That should reset the battery charge logic. (Note: this will only work at all if the phone is truly powered off) If that doesn't work:
3. Disassemble the phone, disconnect the battery. Wait 20 seconds and then reconnect the battery, and reassemble the phone.
Step 3 worked for me. Hope this helps somebody!
Thanks,
Josh

Thanks alot for the suggestions, I'll give them a try when I buy a new screen/lcd etc. and install it. Going back to my once loved Evo4G is such a step backwards I can't explain it.
The battery in my Amaze 4G had gone bad. After full charge it would barely last a half hour, and took forever to charge. So I bought a new battery, and put it in the phone. It powered on to the T-mobile 4G screen, and then turned off. My problem now is, the phone won't power up, and when I plug it in the charger, I get nothing, no LED charging light, nothing. It won't even power on. It's completely dead. Even when I put the old battery in, I get the same result, nothing, where as, everything worked before I put in this new battery. I really need help on this, and I hope someone can help me out on this. Thanks.

And after that push your battery back and try to go in recovery by those keys.
