[Q] Phone to Tablet Link - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of any apps that allow you to send texts from your phone through your tab other than SyncSMS. Sync is great and all but the interface is terrible and I'd like to have the ability to only sync sometimes. Additionally if it could also receive phone calls that'd be awesome.

TabletTalk ,(I use this one myself, work great) it will also have a popup telling you who's calling when your phone ring. Just can't make calls using your phone's number. I use GrooveP to call back.

[Q] Stop facinate from making any calls

I want to completely disable my facinate from being able to make phone calls. I am wondering if I remove the dialer .apk if that would do the job.
I am going to give my facinate to my child to use for games and Music player... but want to ensure that she cant make any calls, text etc...
Wifi for internet is ok...
Thanks for any help !
Just deactivate it.

Deactivating it will ensure that calls won't be made but 911 will still work and that could get expensive.

Delete DialerTabActivity.apk
Airplane mode?
This doesnt actually fix the problem of having a child smart enough to re-enable or make 911 calls.
Deleting the DialerActivityTab is the solution. I can always add it back if needed...
Thanks!

WiFi and 4G Simultaneously

I am on the Saurom 7/7.1 on my ATT Galaxy Note I717 and whenever I turn WiFi on the 4GT cuts out (at least the icon disappears from the status bar). Is it possible to have both on simultaneously? Is this only on Saurom or is it normal for any GB ROM? And, is there a fix?
I was unable to find anything in search relating to the GNote on this subject though I did see one post for a Galaxy sII but on Tmobile and there was no fix.
Why would you want to waste battery on 4G when you're connected to wifi?
It'll turn on when needed, i.e. picture messages, visual voicemail. Like the other guy said, why would you want both and run your data up?

What I'm Concerned About is..
I'm a fireman and I receive text message alerts via SMS and/or I need to call Fire HQ in order to let them know that I am responding. So if I'm on WiFi, can I still do the following even though I don't see the 4G in the status bar:
1. Get SMS text messages
2. Make phone calls
3. Receive phone calls
 ...
Sigh

As long as you have bars of signal and not a circle with a slash you're good to go. 4g is strictly data type stuff, like picture messaging, downloading visual voicemail and googling stuffs on the inner webs. Signal bars software whether or not you'll get texts and phone calls

Any time you enable wifi it will disable 3g or 4g it overides the system to save provider data, since using wifi dosent use your data plan...wifi is also the fastest data I believe over anything,as I understood from many techs but but quote me I could be wrong...though it is fast...
3g,4g,lte,hspa wifi. However you would like to call it. Is for DATA transfer (interent)... Voip is kinda like phone calls in laymens terms...You could technically disable data and wifi and still get phone calls.. hope it helps a little bit

Use Tablet as Phone with an app like skyroam

I just stumbled upon this really useful device which many of us might already know about...Gmate...
which uses a network ic to connect to cellular service and provides you added functionality of a phone to your tablet via bluetooth and a special app from playstore...
http://www.skyroam.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44&Itemid=67&lang=en
The skyroam app...it acts as an interface between the two devices and lets you optimize the phone function on the tablet...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simo.simomate&feature=search_result
But my real concern is that our android phones already have a network ic working in them with a bluetooth chip...
So is there an app like skyroam already made which can enable us to make calls and use the network functions on our TFP via the android phone...i tried searching for it but all in vain...
If not already developed...This is an interesting concept and will be quite useful to use tablet for phone functions especially handsfree voice calls, video calls and using the 3G internet from the phone (though we can use network by creating a hotspot)...
My point is why buy the same thing twice in form of gmate when we have all the ingredients already working right with us...we just need an app...
Can anyone help me with this...?
The closest I've seen is TabletTalk. The developer seems to be aiming for the type of functionality you describe, and much of it is in there already. I find it very useful.
Tablet talk has been good for me. You can answer and make calls right from your tablet. You do need to be paired with your phone through blue tooth or wifi.

Who is this guy, Dr. Seuss? Sorry.....I couldn't resist.
Thanks for this thread OP, I have been looking for this functionality for awhile now, but wasn't sure which way to go with it.
Am I correct to understand that something like tablet talk using your cell for calls?

With tablet talk you can answer and place calls through your tablet and caller ID shows up on your tab, you can also send and receive text messages.
The call audio does NOT get routed through the tablet though. I believe you need to have a BT headset if you want to route the call audio. So when you get or place a call from the tab it actually activates the call on your phone. If you have a BT headset audio gets routed (I believe, I dont use BT headsets so dont hold me to that) otherwise you either have to pick up your phone and talk like you normally would, or you can activate your phone's speakerphone from the app on the tab
You may want to take a look at grooveIP, which uses your google voice number to call and receive calls without a cell network. Works great on tabs and phones and you can even receive calls. Works great for me so far!

[Q] Can I sent texts/make calls over wifi?

Reprimand me if this has been addressed already and my stupid ass couldn't find it.
I live in an area with no 3G coverage at all. EDGE will suffice for simple things such as sms/mms, phone calls (obviously), and web browsing with Opera Mini.
At my house, we have wifi and my phone is always connected to it and signal strength is always excellent. Since I live in the woods, I get no more than 2 or 3 bars of cell service at any given time, if I'm lucky. One or two is the norm.
Can I make calls over Wifi? Or sent text/picture messages? Perhaps I simply don't understand how it works, but a large percentage of the time when I try to reply to a text, it fails and I have to send it repeatedly. Or if someone sends me a picture of some sort. Takes forever to download, if it works at all. Making a phone call is an exercise in futility. Perhaps it has to be done a certain way.
I'm running the latest version of ShoStock2 at the moment, but these problems happen with AOKP, CM9, and Phone Bricker, amongst others.
I'm sure there's apps that allow you to do that. First Google result shows Talkatone. Idk if there's other similar ones/better ones, but you can start there.
As for text, I'm sure there's an app for that too
I used textfree on my iPod. Can't recall if I couldn't send or receive pics though.
For calls, to my understanding, naturally. No. I'd say get something like Skype where you can do VoIP and do all your calls from there on WiFi, as for texts and MMS you really shouldn't have any problems. as far as I'm concerned, texts should be fine, and mms should download via wifi if you are connected. But if it continues to be a problem you could always get Textfree or Whatsapp and get your friends in on that. Its platform wide (literally) and is supported on every device i can think of.
Hit thanks if I've helped you.
Hope you figure out this issue!
You could use text free for texts you just couldn't use your own number or Google voice of course for text and calls. But you can't route your actual cell phone calls and texts over wifi. T-Mobile has that capability but not us on at&t.

Also bobsled.
Voice calls? YES
SMS? YES
MMS? NO
I thought that Google voice was supposed to start supporting MMS, but not sure when. I have been waiting for a while. I use Groove ip as well.
Whats difference between SMS and MMS? A friend and I are 7 days late and our phones are off.
I had viber but got rid of it cause i wasn't using it. (maybe redownload?)
Also my google voice doesn't let me make calls or send messages? (it says I can do international calls - but I turned it off cause it said I needed money in a "google account" sigh...)
I can still use wifi at my house, but thats about it.

[Q] SGP321 (LTE) Incoming GSM calls...

Hi All
From what I understand, the Xperia Tablet Z 4G isn't meant to be able to make and/or receive GSM calls. I came from a Samsung P6800 that was able to make and receive GSM calls so I have a SIM that is attached to a voice and data plan. I'm now using that same SIM in the XZT.
Earlier this afternoon, I turned on my tablet and saw what looked like a missed call screen that flashed by and disappeared. There was no notification of a missed call. I remember the screen had light colours - like light green and blue and yellow (if my memory serves me right).
Tonight I actually received a GSM call. I didnt get to answer it in time (well, let's say that when I got to the tablet, I stood there looking at it and wondering what was going on and the call stopped!).The screen that came up is what I described above. It had an icon of a phone with a circle around it in the middle of the screen. I'm guessing that to answer the call, I would've had to have put my finger on the icon and drag it out to a side.
I tried calling my tablet again with my normal phone to replicate it and maybe try get a screenshot, but I can't seem to get through on the number.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there software on the phone that can make and receive phone calls?
Edit: I should add that I'm on 4.2.2... and Build number is 10.3.1.A.0.244.
I had hoped I could use it as a huge phone, but nope.
I was told the hardware wasn't there.
But if you truly have had an incoming call, then there might be hope.
Right now I'm using Skype and the tablet redirect calls to my Skype-number.
There is..
I use viber a lot and everytime i recieve a call there is a phone with a circle and a wave on it and i just drag the phone to the right to answer it.

Yeh, I thought that it could be Skype or Viber or one of them chat apps, but I wasn't signed into any of those at the time. I'd only had the tab for a couple of days and was still in the process of installing apps.
It hasn't happened since then.. but i'll keep a lookout for it and see if it happens again.
How about Google Voice? If you have it set up on your account you might be getting a call to that number. Try calling it.
