[Q] What's it worth? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Fascinate and will be getting a Bionic in the mail shortly.
I am just wondering what a Fascinate is worth with an extra battery, external charger, seido case (black), extra screen protector (real look), and original charger and cable without an SD card?

why don't you donate the fascinate to a dev like sixstringsg?

Sadly my rap career never took off. [joking]
Just trying to get a baseline and see if I can at the very least get something out of it that will lessen the dent on the wallet and maybe lessen the death-grip on my throat from the wife.

This; he really deserves it and the glitch kernel could be improved a lot if he had one. Unless you're in a tight spot and in need of money then it would be a great move, and you can't really get much for the phone. Not much more than what the accessories would be worth, since Verizon has a lot of newer and better phones now.

I got a Fascinate off Ebay for $135 and came with usb cable, charger, extra battery and extra battery charger. Donating to a dev would be awesome.

See what they are going for on ebay or craigslist....

You've all got valid points. Right now I wont make any rash decisions or promises. Just wondered is all.

+ 1 I'd probly sell mine too but I'm a broke college kid otherwise I'd donate mine to a dev while ppl stool had the phone if I was berthing rid of mine. Your call but I say donate it to a dev. Or raise $ to send it to a dev like with the omfgb crew do u can get some $ and give the phone to a dev. Just maybe get donations from ppl who want the phone to go to a certain dev. Like sixstringsg for example lol

I just set it up as a SIP based phone and it works pretty well. Think that I just might use it as a house phone for awhile.

Is it just because you don't like KK? I know there is some sentiment on the forums about KK and there is some type of a flame war. Maybe some dev will pick this up.

Haha, dude.. If you where a developer wouldn't you want done type of compensation for your efforts? If you want something that bad just party for it. We are lucky more of these guys do all of this for us without asking for anything in return. That said, 5$ for a rom is not that bad man.. Thats less than 1 meal at a fast food place.
Support android, support our phone and the developers who make it better and better daily. I don't know, just my take on the situation.

Just asking but how much are you paying for cell service? How much did you pay for the phone that came not fully functional? Seems if you want to OC to 1.3 and have it fully functional $5 is a small price to pay considering the amount of work involved.
I'm with the OP on this one. I think it's retarded to pay a subscription to be a "premium member". I don't know why people felt they needed to attack the OP....to each their own I guess.
I dont think they attacked the op, but most of this community knows that developers put alot of hardwork and effort into kernels, roms, ect. They have to put up with complaints, and people whinning. They have to offer assistance for issues, and asnwer thousands of questions. 5 dlls is a small fee to pay

I'm sorry if you feel we are attacking the OP. Do a quick search and you will see he has posted this same topic several times in the last 24hrs. Maybe that's part of the reason. In my opinion, if he want's that extra bump it would seem like a small price to pay. Phone is plenty fast enough for most users at 1.2 and that's free thanks to the contributions from users and the kindness and dedication of the developers here. Just my 2 pennies.

Yeah, at least for me, I have no problem paying developers for their hard work, but over the course of a year, 5 dollars a month becomes 60 dollars which, yeah, is really more that this is worth, especially if we want to spend it on other things as well (other software, etc). Just saying. 5 dollars once is one thing, 5 dollars / month is another.
I don't really understand what the problem is here, ask king for his code. It's the beauty of the GPL. It would be nice to get that code, Eugene's 2.2 kernel source and that nice I9000 filesystem mod all together in a neat little kernel for 2.2 on the vibrant.

the way things are going with htc, motorola, etc. locking the roms with acutal hardware - whats the point.
if we keep gabbing over 5 bucks what is going to keep devs willing to spend their time and brains, if people are going to cry about it once they release it.
pretty soon it won't be the developers or google we are yelling about it will be the handset manufactur and the provider.
What gets me is there are several people over at KKs board right now that have paid and have received no password for platinum access nor has anyone even tried to help. That isn't right.
If you head over to kks forum under the Vibrant development you'll see several people that have paid days ago with no password nor any help. Not cool.....

My thoughts are scattered. At one point i'd say a 1.2 oc is not going to pale much in comparison to a 1.3. My other thoughts would be a one time fee is more reasonable but also harder to swallow. Would you rather pay fifteen dollars straight up or monthly cost. I can't see anyone paying fifteen straight up.
Other thoughts. It's disappointing how much well get for free and are not satisfied. However I think donating is a good way to show appreciation I do not believe these things should be done with the intention of making money but if they at putting this much time into it and not getting enough donations to make it worth it to where they have to feel the need to charge. That's just too bad. In the end if you don't like the cost of a product don't buy it...

Yes let's not tinker with our electronics let's all run stock software on all our devices from smart-phones pc's sat receivers ect. Let's all pay out the ass every year for new hardware/software like I really need my phone oc to 1.5ghz I like being locked to a market and have to buy apps that the dev's of apps get taken for 20% by the market (apple, Google, ms) ect. I love my phone locked to the carrier that charges 10 cents a sms for 160 character e-mail. Let's just assume that a 1ghz smart-phone needs to be a quad core 4.0 with 2 gig internal ram. So I can play 3d games on a 4" screen while I work in open office on my power point pres. and sms and make a call at same time while my nice 27" computer is 20 feet away. I love having 10 old cell phones lying around love figuring out what the hell is this charger is for. For god sakes man please let me give US $$$ to the Asian countries instead.............. (they actually own everything anyway)
PC's get smaller Phones gets bigger and tablets are just baffling me. Cant's we just get an implant in our brains for all of it?
Sorry recieving an OTA update to my head have to lay down 8 hours so I have to end this rant....... Sure hope the gas.lib gets fixed this time it's been hell farting out of my ears........

Hey at least your getting your sleep OTA update. I'm still lost due to my bad GPS update and don't get me started about my frozen yogurt. I'm just trying to get a better taste in my mouth!
I don't see the point of OC-ing any more. We only have one dev doing kernels. Also because once we like 1.4 GHz stable, then those same ppl asking for that kernel is gonna be complaining about the battery being drained too quick. U can't please noobs...its impossible to keep noobs .just my .02 opinion

[Q] Developers...

Two questions following a boring explanation:
My Eris fell from a moving vehicle. The end call button was stuck sideways. I tried to fix it, but the button popped out. That is all that I can find wrong with it. I set it so volume down and send will wake the phone, so it is usable. However, I am switching service back over to my Droid A885 or whatever it is. The original Droid by Motorola through Verizon.
1. Do any developers here have need of an Eris for testing? I am sure you could rig the end button, but I am not mechanically inclined.
2. Can anyone that has used the Motorola Droid from Verizon suggest a good stable ROM to ease my transition?

I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of shipping costs via paypal once it is shipped. Recipient chooses... insurance, delivery confirmation etc.
How sad, I can't even give it away! It works great, it is just missing the power button. Turns on fine with a piece of aluminum... Anyway, it has Shed's latest GB on it. Wiped and ready for the next person to play around with it...

I sent you a pm, was asking if I just send cash for the shipping costs because I don't have a paypal account lol. Of course I would send the money for shipping before you actually ship the phone.
I see it now. No pop up notification of PM's. Sorry about that.
lol its ok, so what do you think ? I send the cash, then you send the phone ? Is there any other thing that's kind of like paypal where I can send the money ?
Take that as a "no", too bad, really wanted that phone.

White back Amaze with black D30. What should my asking price be?

Hello all. Got my Amaze on launch day. Been a great phone but tired of the limitations all the devs face. No AOKP. No CM. Just so many things standing in their way too. I want to move on to another device that has greater support in the dev community. I would include two cases. One is a D30 and the other a clear with white argyle (has yellowed some) and of course the charger. The condition is 10\10 zero wrong with it. White is whitey white. Screen has no scratches/blemishes. NEVER been dropped (knock on wood)What should my asking price be??? Also is anyone interested? Trades would be considered but no promises.
Also I am currently running ICS roms with 4EXT recovery and S-off.
toss a picture up man
I'm away from all other devices with a Camera at the moment
Standing By
If only had I seen this early, just bought a used one, a few scratches on the cover, but I got a new cover to replace it with, just too lazy to s-off it since I already s-offed my old one, lol.
I'd check on Craigslist to get a feel for the current asking price.
It's different prices for different markets. Selling online "can" be a hassle.
I honestly prefer cash in hand unless it's friends.
The cases are a + which means you could ask for a bit more, but someone could just opt to not buy the cases...in which case you'd have to options.
Lower the price and exclude the cases or decline the offer altogether.
I suggest figuring out the lowest you'd take for the phone first. Then figure out what you'd ACTUALLY like to get for it, then ask a bit above it because of the cases.
That way when you lower the price to exclude the cases it's right where you want it to be at.
You get what you want, and they feel like they got a good deal.
Just some suggestions. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Seriously, my fiance's Sensation is so much frikkin better with all the dev support. She benches higher, battery is smaller and lasts longer than mine. The Amaze just hit at a weird time. It has great hardware but not available in many markets and has some goofy drivers that screw the kernal development up.

Might Sell Rezound - Looking to See What I Can Get

--------------------
HISTORY
--------------------
I might sell my Rezound. I got the upgrade itch with 4G and the Droid X dying out of development so I pulled the upgrade trigger. I also thought we'd have AOSP by now (to developers, this is not a request for an ETA).
My wife agreed to possibly take the Rezound when something better comes around as long as she didn't care for one device over the other. Honestly, looking at the choices of the Maxx, Rezound, or G-Nex, she didn't. Looking at the SGS3, I think she may decide she wants that instead of the Rezound, at which case I might want to sell the device and buy a SGSIII out of contract.
--------------------
WHAT I HAVE
--------------------
1 HTC Rezound - S-OFF'd and Unlocked Bootloader - Running the newest leak.
1 Unused stock Sandisk 16GB SD Card.
3 Standard Batteries and Doors (Long Story)
1 Extended Battery
1 Extra pair of iBeats (unused, untouched... part of the reason I have 3 Standard Batteries)
1 Car Dock (with swappable pieces to fit the extended or standard battery)
1 Standard Charger
--------------------
THE VERDICT?
--------------------
I'd like to at least pull in $500. If it was just the phone, I'd think I'm looking at something closer to $300 - $350 if it was stock, but I'm guessing because its been completely unlocked, it's worth a bit more... maybe closer to $400.
Throw in the accessories (batteries, car chargers) and the headphones, I don't think $500 is unreasonable. Possibly even more which is why I'm trying to price it here before I consider selling it.
What are your thoughts? Am I crazy, looking for too much money, am I on point, or could I sell it for a full $650 (off contract price) because of all the accessories?
How much for head buds only?
I'd bet you get 300-350. No one cares about accessories.
If you're selling it on xda, expect 200-275 probably. And no one really wants all the accessories.
You're kinda shooting for the stars with 500-650.
ReZound
What if I sold on Craigslist?
Also, I'm not selling anything individually.
Maybe $300 or $350 on ebay. I am just wondering if the value will go up after the 28th and Verizon's new share plans go into effect. People will not want to give up their unlimited data so buying yours may be more appealing at this time. Just a thought.
You'd get more parting it out, as opposed to trying to sell phone with all those accessories together. You could get a decent amount from part out I believe.. Matter of fact I will take an extended batt and the car dock
On topic answer:
NO way you can get 500 for that as is.. Its just not worth it.. Maybe 3-350 or 400 depending on local area sold and demand in said area
A bare rezound will get $250ish now. No matter what accessories you have they will not be worth over $50. I would think $300 would be reasonable and $350 would be phenomenal.
if you sell it on eBay you could easily get 350+.

XDA is killing the value of this phone.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW
Lol, a troll's troll maneuver eh? I see what you did there.
But it does raise a point: demographics of prospective buyers. This is a Verizon exclusive phone, narrowing the field there. It appeals to males. Its strong selling point amongst competitors is hardware specs. That last point kinda goes hand in hand with modders and geeks that would look at websites like XDA. And geeks know new hardware is out and in the horizon, significantly devaluing your phone.
The reason iPhones and such sell for a hundred or more dollars unlocked is because average people know you can do more that way but don't want to bother with the technical side. This phone is a niche tinkerer's device by comparison, harder to find the buyer that will substitute money for hands-on time.
$300 for the phone by itself, maybe $400 bundled with everything. Probably better off trying the phone at $375 by itself with the most recent leak, likely ICS OTA anyway. Market the ICS selling point hard on the initial offer, try and get a bite and drop price if you don't get one. Then sell accessories individually.

I would not do this if you are selling the device. While the Rom is great I would not say everything is 100% working. If you are going to sell, you should always put a 100% working Rom on the phone.
I have sold plenty of rooted phones to people who didn't even know what that meant. Which means the Rom on the phone I give them would be the one that stays on the phone. It would not be nice to give them something that does not work!

I agree. I sold my Incredible 2 on Swappa in less than a day for what I paid for it on Ebay a few months before. Since the buyer is more likely educated on Android phones, you can list exactly what you have and they understand the value of s-off, root access, and the custom ROM it's running. You probably can't overprice it but you get what it's worth.

Goodbye, Rezound!

Hey guys, so yesterday I made the switch to Sprint (it's waaay cheaper than VZW here..) and in return I got rid of my Rezound in exchange for the beautiful HTC One. I'm gonna miss all the talented developers here but I'm gonna miss Snuzzo's kernel and how helpful he is the most . It sucked selling my Rezound after having it for over a year and a half. I came from an iPhone to the Rezound, so everyone here made my first Android experience a great one. The reasoning behind it is because my Rezound's digitizer plug-in was messed up after replacing my screen twice, my front housing was peeling off from opening it, the vibrating motor was broke and the battery life was..well, we know our Rezounds and their batteries lol. I never post but I feel like I'm friends with everyone here just because this community is so nice and helpful. I'm gonna miss you all .
PS the One is amazing. I'm not as wowed as I was with my Rezound because I'm already familiar with Sense and Android, but it feels great in my hands and looks amazing.
I just bought a pair of Nexus 4s for the wife and I and switched to T-Mobile. This is definitely an awesome little dev community. Many thanks to all!

First; thank you for the kind words BOTH OF YOU. Good to see I helped you. Second; Who says I won't be doing anything on the Htc One?
I will definitely miss this community too! 3 days before I leave for basic training, my battery goes south and the earliest I can get a new battery is sometime on Tuesday...when I'll already be on a plane to Ft. Jackson. Bought a GS3 on CL, and I must say, the battery life is so phenomenal compared to the Rezound. 12+ hours compared to my average 4-6.
Will definitely miss the devs! I've been here since launch day in November 2011. My oh my how far development has come!!

See you on the other side, thanks snuzzo, Chad, neo, countershrike, Hawk, newt, and all the others for the great development. I'm glad to see Scott working on the att htc one. This phone is amazing

Just picked up my 3rd Rezound... a minty used one with a ton of accessories and extra batteries, for $155. Nothing about this phone makes it anywhere near obsolete, but you guys just keep chasing after the latest, greatest shiny new device, and keep spending $$$. The smarter ones will be around to pick up your dirt cheap discarded leftovers. I'm still on my very first Rezound (purchased on Black Friday 2011), I just gave a used "spare" to my wife after her old dumb phone died, and now I have another backup/experimenting phone for cheap.
THANK YOU!

Sounds like someone is jealous. Don't be hating because some of us can afford the latest and greatest when it comes out .

Not jealousy, sounds more like loyal and being a money saver. I do agree, why waste your cash .....

Ahhh... I see. Common sense is the new Jealousy. :silly:
I could pay cash for a new One every month, and never miss the money. I don't live in my mom's basement, either. Fact remains, the Rezound is still a great device, and other than the lemming-like desire to have the "latest and greatest" (for no other reason than the dread of feeling left out of the stampede), there's no real reason to switch from it.
BTW... how much better was that Nexus than your Rezound? (my wife has one for a company-issued phone, and it SUCKS compared to her Rezound)
I am thinking of getting an S4 to replace my Rezound and use the Rezound to replace my D1. That way I can still have the best of both worlds.

I liked my Nexus way better vs my Rezound. Battery life was better, call quality was great, no creaky back and no washed out colors like the LCD on the Rezound. I do admit that the display on the Rezound is more crisp. That and all AOSP roms atm on the Nexus are way smoother for now. The only reason I dropped the Nexus is cause the screens would keep crapping out on me. Once developement starts firing up for the S4 bye bye S3! Plus if you have the financial standing to buy a new device and have enough left over in your bank for rainy days why care? Spend your money on things you enjoy! Spoil your wife and kids! When you croak and have a nice life insurance policy they'll be set for some time.

Some of us have more disposable income vs others and that's just an unfair fact of life .
Again, even though I myself CAN AFFORD to get a new device. I've not had a reason to. I guess assets and a word call saving doesnt apply when you said "disposable". Just save the "disposable" income. May need it one day.
What I am saying is go for it, but don't fill my mouth with words. Again, jealous, heck no.

Bolded and underlined. Which seems you are implying we are of lesser intelligence if we decide to spend full retail on new devices?

When we're talking about a devices that are hobbled by the inability to replace batteries when they go dead (planned obsolescence), or upgrade memory (thus forcing users into relying on cloud storage and higher data charges), then yes... it is a lesser intelligence issue. You're playing into the provider's hands, rather than calling your own shots. (OOOoooo.... look!! SHINY!!!)

I was never implying you were jealous. To each their own when it comes to what they do with their $$$. I just think freedoom is a **** when he is stating someone is of lesser intelligence for hopping on a newer device of their choice. I am directing the comment purely at him.

This is why I choose which shiny new device suits my needs before I buy it and drool. Plus I have unlimited data so idgaf about using cloud solutions . Some people don't care about swapping out batteries.. As most of them will already have a newer device before the battery goes bad. Lol you really think you're calling your own shots when you're contracted with a carrier? I rest my case.
