I'm trying to make an android app with my girlfriend and I wanted to know can someone help with the tools we need to become successful. So far we have heard to download eclipse or google app inventor. But apparently that's not all. So help with this project would be appreciated by us both. Thanks.

There are lots of resources out there, but to get going, you need:
1. Eclipse
2. JAVA JDK if on Windows; installed on Macs
3. Android SDK
This link should help...enjoy!

Oh, some programming experience would be nice too, preferably JAVA

I think if you programming experience in any other language it would be fine..because there are lot of tutorials out there for android ..plus you have got forums like this and stackoverflow where there are people ready to help you..
I just started 8 months ago with no prior experience in Java..(I had only studied in school) but now I am able to make out because of the online resources..
Try hard by going through lot of information available on Web
Really nice guide. Includes everything even, how to configure eclipse.

Well yes, it would be useful if it will be able to give us a higher download speed and the ability to pause and resume. so YES it will be useful
A official firmware download software will be more useful

Yeah.... we gonna appreciate dat!
Well do you think the ROM developers would allow that? They ask for no mirrors for download count. Anyways, the resumable download facility would be great indeed!
i'm having a hard time finding an open source c# p2p app
@ChavitoArg if you could give me a hint on how to build flashtool from source, i'll try

I think java will be better to use coz programm written in java can be compiled under every os and it will be stable, nice looking, and easier to make changes.
BTW. I think FW Devs will give you green light to this project if you will share with them download metters. If you want some help in php, mysql, js, ajax, html, xhtml I can help without any problems and for free of course.
Nice software. Great thinking.
Are you using Visual C++ for this software??

Hi!
I only got 10 posts on this forum and I'm kinda new to coding stuff, but I got experience with rooting, flashing, and theming. Just so you know I'm not all noobish to Android.
Now to the point. I have a great idea for a launcher that I came up with (not sure if I should share it with you guys). I want to base it on the stock Jelly Bean launcher and it will have some UI mods/changes.
I DON'T have any experience with Java yet though.
It would be very kind if someone could give me a few tips or something to get me going. I followed a guide on developers.android.com where you built a simple app that shows a message when you write something and hit Send.
So please help me to get started with developing apps.
Many thanks

Thanks mate, thanks for taking your time.
More tips are welcome For example, can I mod the stock JB launcher and publish it without getting sued, and where can I get it to import it into Eclipse?

Yes you can mod the stock JB launcher and publish it without getting sued, that's the beauty of Android and it being opensource is you can take an application like the stock JB launcher and modify and change it to your hearts content.
Searching around a little more these video's might answer more of your questions:
How to make your own android launcher / program your own custom launcher
How To Retrieve The Source Code From A Compiled Android .Apk Or Application

Hi guys,
Before I rush into C#, I was a good programmer at VB6. I tried to learn JAVA from the net. But couldn't, due to my bad English. So I tried C#, honestly learning it was easy to me. Because VB and C# in the same boat Though I'm still learning C#, no pro yet . So, I thought someone will like to learn C# and develop android apps. So you can find E-books here,

I would like also to learn C# or any other programming language. But there's so many references here that i don't know what to read. Please advise me which one is the best for a total noob.
Hello! I am a newbie to android development and want to study developing android applications. I found 2 best sites where you can easily study coding.
One of them is Codelearner. It is in simple language made for newbies. You don't want to sign up for studying from there. Another one is Codeschool. It is very great too. You can study Ruby, Java, HTML/CSS and IOS. If you become premium member you can access more courses but a regular account is enough for studying android developing(coding) and IOS(If you want). Great for developing good apps.
There is an android apk which can also give some basic info but you have to go through it and you have to self study. The app is AIDE. It is mainly build for developing apps( Android IDE ) but you can study some basics too. When you open the app, you can see some app names for studying, you can start with making Hello World! app. When you make go to whole files and study the content. If you didn't understand any command, just search it in google or post here.
I believe I helped you. Please spread the sites and app to all.
Kindly,
MZ
wow I liked your suggestion man I was searching for a nice site for learning too
Some guides by Matt Luedke , I found a few days ago : Make Your First Android App: Part 1/3 | Make Your First Android App: Part 2/3 | Make Your First Android App: Part 3/3 . You can save it as a pdf file for offline reading.

Codecademy is nice for small exercises and practicing syntax, but honestly it isn't too useful if you don't have good programming fundamentals. I recommend it as supplementary material, but if you're really looking to understand how to code I'd look elsewhere.
thanks

Hello i would like to make my first steps as an android developer..i know this **** is difficult and i know you should learn many staff about os stractures etc and of cource a good understanding of some programming[c java]... but i am intrigued by those things[i am also starting my studies about programming in university] but i dont know where to start and what exactly should i learn to have a good understanding about android and be ready to start compiling. building and porting android source to some devices[i know it will take some time but i dont care as i really like programming ]
[ i know some basic stuff about roms kitchens logcat porting and i have really basic level of programing skills [ but i suppose that is not enough]
The only skill required for compiling a rom is reading. There are thousands of tutorials about how to do this.
Porting ROMs to different devices will require some more skill, I think most of the difficulty is in the C part although I personally don't have experience with this.
Most important thing is java
if you successfully compiled ROM and found bugs like FC
you will find it very hard to fix
learn java then continue and then follow the guide by @jackeagle and his awesome team

Yup
But you must don't forget
android 50% of it is apps
Java required for help in fixing bugs in your ROM
For example if you have FC while choosing an option in settings
What you should do ?
Let's think a bit
Settings at the it is an apk file
apk = android app = written with java = can fixed with java
don't go to final phase fast
Start from zero and learn Java and then you can start with ROM development
and then Learn c/c++ then start with kernel development
Do that and make your life easier
you will find that hard a bit in the begins (nothing easy in this life and nothing impossible)
but at the end you will find your self an expert
Hit thanks if i helped you
