So, I've repurposed my old Nexus One as a wifi only device, and I want to be able to control it via my Evo 3D, but I can't seem to find an app for this specific use case.
I was hoping someone would know of an app to do this with. Primarily just want basic music controls but a full blown vnc would be cool if it worked well.
Also, if anyone knows an easy way to get rid of my signal bars and (no service) on the status bar that would be cool too.

I have a Transformer Prime on the way (if my Best Buy pre-order doesn't get canned that is), and am trying to get a jump at some potential uses I have in mind for it. Specifically, I'm looking for an app to use for teaching/presenting on a regular basis. iOS has a teleprompter app that does some of the things I'm looking for, but I haven't had much luck finding one for Android yet. Specifically I'm looking for:
- Auto scrolling text (like a teleprompter)
- Support for Rich Text (so highlights and font changes can be seen)
- A timer or clock
- Audio Recording capability
There used to be an app called M-Prompter, which seemed to have most of those features. Does anyone know of any others I should investigate?
I'm also looking for an app that does something similar to iOS keynote, being able to remotely control a power point running on my prime from my android phone. Any ideas?
Been stalking the forums, but mainly for the OG Droid as that was my primary phone until recently.
Recently got a RAZR MAXX and am just looking for a few functions be carried over from my Droid on CM7.
The one I need most is to change tracks in a media player with long presses on the volume buttons while the screen is turned off.
Is there any way I can get this to happen, preferably without rooting? This phone is pretty new and I wanna wait to root it for a little while if possible.
I would be more than willing to root for CM, but haven't heard anything on if it's coming to the RAZR at all.
Last time i used Winamp for android there was an option for doing this.
Ill look in to that. Is there any way to make it default for any media player though? I use pandora a lot and while riding bike, i cant pull it out to change the track, especially with my gloves on.
The developer must include the feature in the app, its an API if I remeber well.I don't use pandora so i can't help you there, sorry.
I've had a look through, and haven't found anything in either apps that would allow this. I use both Winamp and Pandora on a daily basis.
I searched for a solution before throwing up this thread, but only found solutions for other devices. I saw pretty much I need either a ROM that includes it as a feature, or an app that will change the system file, and I'm guessing it needs to be rooted to do so.
I suggest you the app ttpod with track change by shake option.

gosh yes! bump! i was just thinking the other day how much i missed my old WM6 phone with lots of hardware buttons on the front that i could map to do anything i wanted. i don't know if this trend to a screen only interface is so great after all. sure, it looks cool, but it's also less functional in some real world situations, especially driving!
Just working on a concept for an app with a friend and I was wondering if technology exists or is feasible to scan for android devices in the area with the same app. So for example, if you and a friend walked by each other both with the app installed something X, Y or Z would happen depending. Mostly just wondering how the scanning would work, I know most phones have GPS enabled and I know most can broadcast wifi, just wondering if this is at all possible. Making the app shouldn't be much of a problem once I know where to go to figure this out, don't know exactly what this action is called, or how to go about it. Thanks!
I saw another thread about hiding apps in some guy's wife's phone to track her. I'm looking for something similar with my wife, but it does not need to be hidden. Mainly to be used because I commute quite a distance and this would let her know how close I am to home (rather than having me text while driving). Similarly for her when she's travelling.
Just an app that would:-
1. Allow me to see where she is (and vice-versa)
2. Use GPS if on, otherwise fall back on net information
3. Not use SMSes (some sort of internet-based communication between phones)
I could probably hack something up using Tasker but her phone isn't rooted like mine is so the capabilities for GPS etc are a bit more limited (and time is limited, of course).
Thanks!

You can actually do this with the built in google maps application. It's called local/latitude. You can share where you are and control who sees it an when. Go ahead and look into it. Much better then downloading another app IMHO.
See here: Google search latitude android
Thanks, yeah I know about latitude features but it seems to lack a way to "ping" the other party with the equivalent of "hey, I've reached road X"

Use an app called Backitude from the Play Store. Latitude updates pretty arbitrarily on its own. This app allows you to control how and when it updates, and also let's another person force an update on your phone by sending an SMS. It's all Internet based except the update triggering part. You can also use the tracking features of Cerberus, another app in the Play Store.

I was hoping that someone can help me with a couple of Ready For questions:
Wanting to try out Ready For PC that is present in the newer Motorola phones, does anyone know if it is possible get the APK and try it out? This phone does wired Ready For just fine when used with an external display.
I also wonder if anyone has any app recommendations or knows of any apps that allow the use of widgets on the Ready For desktop when connected to an external display? I really like being able to dock my phone and use the phone simulator on the display while opening up another app or two to use while working, but I think using the standard desktop widgets would be killer. I have tried a few apps meant for DeX without much luck, the only one that has been useful is SecondScreen to change the density of my 3200x1800 14" touch display that I am using with the phone.
