Hrm. Found the cpuinfo file and it made no mention of 'neon'. Proceeded w/ the "no neon" d/l. Pushed it to data/app and set permissions to rw r r and rebooted. Gettin fc errors. Tried system/app with same permissions and get the same result. Have you had luck with this apk, L2?
did you try just installing it from your sdcard..
Thanks funk. That was it. I didn't even think of doing that. So used to just pushing system apk's.

Alright, I have the HTC_IME.apk directly from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1035327
Tried to throw it on my atrix (rooted with sideloading enabled of course) and when I tried to install it it says:
Parse error: There is a problem parsing the package.
I've been trying to figure out a solution for a while now, but I am not quite sure where to start. Any help?
Is it a signing issue, or is there something I can do? I know I'm a noob. I don't even need an answer, just point me where to get started, besides "google" cause I got that far .

I'm pretty sure its one of the ones you dont need to install, just place in the /system file and it should be recognized, just make sure the permissions are set correctly (to rw-r-r)

rootexplorer can do both, it's not free but its fairly inexpensive and well worth the change for how good a tool it is.

Thank you, it still didn't work yet, but I have a place to start . Love the HTC_IME and qHD screen of the atrix, hopefully I can make them love eachother or something.
Try putting it in the /system/app folder, set permissions to rw-r-r, then reboot for good measure.

Just saw this...nexus prime boot animation. Its in a flashable zip, but I tried & it didn't work so I extracted the bootanimation.zip & placed it in the system/media folder. I got it to work after that. Looks cool. Ill try to provide a dropbox link with the zip if I can...

Edit: here's the zip I extracted http://db.tt/RiwoxsLN
Installed it earlier as well
You guys are better then me. I downloaded it and it wouldn't flash...of course, so I put it in the folder you said and I still get the eclipse boot. Any ideas?

Check the data\local\
Sometimes bootanimations are put there.
I had a problem with bootanimations and no matter what I did, I still got a different one, but when I SBF to 2.3.4, it worked again. so check data\local and if that doesn't work, maybe a SBF will.

Did you use the zip I posted in the link above? You have to place the zip in system/media. Rename the old bootanimation to bootanimation.zip.bak so you can use later if you choose. also make sure your change the permissions to r-w-r-r

I'm having issues copying the zip to system/media.
It says it is read-only.
I clicked on Mount R/W in the Media Folder.
Am I changing the permission on the Media folder?
Keeps telling me the file system is read only.
Can someone offer a bit more instructions? THX

Are ya using root explorer?
Try just mounting /system as r/w and media will be included.
I wouldn't go messing wit permission on system folder manual checking boxes. Only time I did that I had to sbf lol...but I was changing /system permission using checkboxes
Yes, root explorer and I did touch the Mount R/w on System...still says you can't paste here because the file system is read only. I'm on Eclipse 1.1

Did u try reboot and start again?
It SHOULD allow u to mount system r/w
That is if u are rooted. Lol
All u should have to do to be able to do stuff to /system files is touch the gray button on top that says Mount r/w
it should change.to saying " mount r/o" when ur system is editable.
Does it gave DIRECTLY to the left of that gray button "r/w" after the total memory used/available?
Oh...I'm awake now.
It works when the button displays Mount R/O.
I read it as that meant it was currently set to Read/Only.
Not that was to toggle it to R/O.
THANKS MAN

nope still not letting me do it, this one just tells me operation failed
Use root explorer from market. You have to remount the system partition as read/ write before moving, as it is mounted read only by default.

Sometimes we can use them by copying apk to data folder. Just copy the apk file to "/data/app folder and sey the permission. And reboot.

Hi very_lie, need specifics, what method are you using- ADB? Are you rooted? What app- is it compatible with your device, app store(play/aptoide) will tell you yea or nay. Assuming you are rooted, use a good file manager, go into settings of the file manager, give it root permissions, and change mount system folders to writable, they will be read only originally. Find out where the app needs to go. For example, earlier today, I replaced talkback app because the version that came with custom ROM force closed. Google came out with an update recently that works for me. In file explorer, went to /system/app to find out what its called- talkback.apk. Downloaded v. 3.5 from aptoide(be careful), renamed it talkback.apk. go to /system/app, deleted older talkback.apk, go to data/dalvic cache and delete system @ app @ talkback.apk @ classes.dex Took renamed apk, copied it(from sd), just long press on the file and options come up, select copy. Navigated to /system/app and paste it there. Reset permissions, again long press hit permissions, will probably at rw-rw-rw, change to rw-r--r-- read write, read, read. Reboot. Upon reboot, may say android is upgrading-all is good-dalvic cache is building. Now with certain apps you will want to delete its data- in /data/data. For this app didn't need to. Also some apps can't be put in /system/app. On my phone HTC Evo 3d, ones like facebook, Twitter, translate and other google app can. Ones like Skype n dropbox cannot- they forced closed and can cause others to misbehave. So open up your app n see if it works. Go back into file manager, /data/data and make sure your app's permissions are rwxr-xr-x. Hope this helps, follow this same format when putting"forcing" app on data partition- /data/app

I've got a old version of APK editor pro , that I can use . Version 1.00 to bypass any install errors .. don't ask me how to get it though. Regards
Of course I could also have flash stock firmware again but I needed a simple solution to use the media I had available at that moment, only two Note 8 (mine and my wife's to extract the apk) and little 3g signal (when I had) to find a solution.
I appreciate the recommendations after having solved the problem but the object of my post was to thank for the help, the rest are anecdotes.

How to get it?
Using the new 4.3 Stock/Sense 5 ROM, trying to replace SystemUI.apk with the one from Sinistertensai (post 794). After mounting /system in TWRP and renaming the existing file to SystemUI.apk.bak, I am pushing the new apk over ADB to /system, then chmod 644 (I'm doing this on the phone using TWRP, so typing in 0644), and then moving it to /system/app. I can confirm that the new SystemUI.apk resides in /system/app right next to the .bak version, both are 644. When I reboot, I immediately get "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" and it just keeps popping up again when I close it.
What am I doing wrong?
(Note: For now I'm using the Sense 5 Toolbox, which is great, but I'd still like to know what I was missing in trying to replace my SystemUI.apk.)

Cache may have been the issue. I might give it another go to get my learning in.
I ran into the same issue when I naively tried to use this mod on my odexed RUU install. whoops!

Fortunately, that was NOT my issue.
I'm still looking for a solution to this. My latest attempt:
In recovery:
rename SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.apk.bak
adb push modded SystemUI.apk to /system/app/
chmod 644
chown root.root
clear cache and dalvik
Still FCs continuously on boot. I've tried it just the way several other threads suggest, but I'm having a hard go of it.

So how did you end up getting it to work? Or did you?
I have not found a solution. Obviously flashing the mod on odexed isn't a solution and I've had major stability issues with exposed framework , so I am just sticking with stock root for now.

Well I must be doing something wrong. I used Root Explorer to copy SystemUI.apk to /system/app (mounted RW) and replaced the existing one. I noticed the permissions were strange (like ---RWXR-X or something) but I rebooted it anyway. It didn't FC, but I didn't have a notification bar at all on reboot. So I went in and changed permissions to 644, then the FCs started on the next reboot.
I'll keep researching, but I don't know how I could be going this wrong. I must be missing something. I've copied it manually and using adb, in the system and in recovery, every combination I can think of, unless there's a different set of permissions I should be using or a different method. Or perhaps it just doesn't work with the .3 ROM for some reason (can't imagine why).
Don't know what to tell you. I'm using .3 and it worked fine for me.

Just want to confirm: You copied the new apk directly to /system/app and overwrote the stock one, right? What permissions do you see?

That's correct. I didn't bother messing with any permissions. Looking at it now, it's rw-r--r--.
Finally figured this out. I never replaced services.jar with the sig-check-disabled version. Now it works.

Here you go. Push to /system/app via a root explorer, and set permissions to match the others. Look at the screenshot at the beginning of this thread to see the proper permissions. Then reboot.
