Hi,
I have a Galaxy S2 .
I want to know that if i root the stock firmware and then if warranty issue arises , reflash my stock firmware .
After this would there be any way to know whether it the phone was rooted .?
Would that increase the counter that increases for the illegal FW's flashed .?
B'coz i'm not using custom/illegal ROM's
So this way would i preserve my warranty .??
you can root by flashing cf-root kernel and then if for any reason something happens you can flash back to stock firmware but the binary counter will go up one so just buy a usb jig for like $8.

But why would the counter increase if i reflash with stock ROM .??
cuz in order to root you need to flash cf-root kernel which is unofficial. It wont go back to 0 if you flash back to stock. the only way i know to reset is with a usb jig unless there is some other way

Insert the jig after you turn it off.
Is the jig model specific or any would work ??
Intratech has an amazing thread with the carrier firmware. Download your carrier firmware and go crazy with the flashing. If your device starts playing up and you want to warranty it, reflash your carrier firmware. Plug in USB jig (wipes binary counter) and you're done

Hi,
my USB-PORT broke so I am going to send it in for warranty.
The only Problem I have is the voided warranty by flashing CM9 und unlocking.
So can you tell me whether flashing stock-rom via CWM will hide that "unlock"-logo in the bootscreen?
I thought about flashing Stock via RSD-Lite, but the USB isnt working, so this will not work.

Flashing via CWM will not hide the unlock label at boot. AFAIK only flashing stock sbf via RSDLite can do that.
I flashed 1FF-olympus-user-2.3.6-4.5.141-111212-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P012.sbf without problems. The unlocked label went bye-bye, and I didn't even have a soft brick or bootloop or anything. Worked on the first try. But this doesn't garantee that it will work for you. Flashing sbf-s is pretty risky business in general.
I think if your BL is unlocked you should be fine flashing this sbf, but I could have just been lucky.
Cheers
Can you give me some link to that sbf
Ive been looking an sbf to get my atrix working back. Could you please give me some link to that so I can download it?
Thanks in advanced
Since the issue with the phone is with the hardware and not the software, I don't think it will be an issue to get it replaced.

Hey,
am I able to flash .sbf via CWM?
And usually warranty is voided. You think they will replace it although they see the "unlock"-logo when they start it?
you can only flash sbfs with rsdlite. you can flash stock fruitcakes with cwm, but the unlocked label will still be there

But you read that my USB isnt working so i wont be able to flash via RSD Lite?
I just answered your question about sbf flashing. You can't remove the unlocked label any other way AFAIK. But someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi all.
My SGS2 needs to be sent in for repairs in the imminent future, and in preparation I unrooted my phone and flashed a Stock ICS build (my carrier is Optus, Australia). Before this I was running a few different GB roms. When I boot my phone I do not get the yellow triangle (I assume this is because I am running official Samsung firmware), but if I put the phone into download mode, it still shows the 8 custom flashes I did earlier.
My real question is will Chainfire's Triangle Away app remove the binary count even if the triangle isn't there?
And a better question would be, would having official firmware be enough to still claim warranty, or would I need to have both official firmware and a "0" custom flash count?
Thanks for any help!
I believe Samsung may throw a stink about the counter, even if you are on stock/official firmware. This counter would imply that you have voided your warranty previous to the current state of the phone and it's OS
To be safe I would use the Triangle away app
EDIT: Yes, the app does reset the flash counter. See https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway&hl=en
Its always safe to clear the counter before returning it for service. yes the triangle away app will clear the counter with/without triangle.
download it for free from here

Thanks guys!
I tried to run the app but it's telling me I need Superuser access...
Does this mean I need to root the phone, use the triangle away app, then UNroot the phone?
Sorry if this is obvious... Not overly confident of my ability to keep the phone unbricked haha.

You are correct. Root the phone first, use the app, then unroot.
Thanks!
So it will still think it's Samsung official after that process?
You'll need a rooted ICS firmware already on your phone.
Check the Triangle Away forum to ensure its working with your firmware version.
Flash Triangle Away, this will remove Yellow Triangle and reset Custom Counter to 0.
Flash official unrooted firmware using Odin, this wont increase your Custom Counter as its official. Use a firmware thats specific to your region.

Job done.
Also check my sigi for links
Thanks! This forum is full of amazing help.
So theoretically I could follow those steps then flash the stock ROM a thousand times and the flash counter would remain at 0?
If it makes you feel any better I went to Optus 3 weeks ago with a phone that wouldn't turn on with ICS for another region with root and they fixed it.
I think my USB jig cleared the counter to 0 though. I couldn't connect my phone to dl mode or anything
The app removes the triangle as well as the counter
Yeah I tried using the jig a while ago but I think I have the newer bootloader, so it didn't do anything, which was very disappointing.
I'd just hate to take it in then have them tell me to get bent because I rom'ed it.
Ok so let me know if theres a problem with my process.
I'm using ICS and the kernel is XWLP4.
There was no LP4 in Chainfires thread but I read that I could use the next closest one. So I should flash something like "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_O2U_LP3-v5.4-CWM5.zip" and then triangle away then use the Optus stock ICS?
UPDAT: I tried this method and it worked perfectly! Thanks so much to everyone who helped.
has worked like a charm for me everytime i put stock firmwares on my phone
Safest way is to flash a really old firmware and thus flashing the old bootloader. Now reset the counter with an usb jig. Done.

Or just flash the old bootloader.
Hello,
I am trying to reset the download counter, but the jig not working. It has ICS on it so i know it wont work. Can i flash back to Android 3.x then use the jig and then let kies update it to the latest version. Whats the risk of flashing back? Can it brick my device?
Thanks as always for your time.

Since you are on ICS, Use Triangle Away app by chainfire to reset you download counter, there is no need for jig or downgrade.
good luck
What about triangle away app

Android 3.x codename Honeycomb is for tablets, You mean 2.3.x Gingerbread.

This is old gingerbread bootloader (flash as PDA in Odin). You don't need to flash whole gingerbread rom. Operation is reasky but using Triangle away also is dangerous becouse this app modify some bootloder hidden partition entries.

So once its rooted how to get it back to its unrooted state? As i want to take it into CEX and sell it tomorrow.
Which method did you use to root your phone?
Reset binnary counter in this way or another, format internal sd and flash stock firmware with Odin. Wipe data/factory reset.

I have not rooted the phone. I had the MUIUI or what ever its called ROM. So i went to sammobile and downloaded the official rom and then just flashed it over with odin. So it should be unrooted now and back to stock. I think!

Yeah it should be unrooted now. If you want to use the triangle away app, you need root.
There are easy root and unroot methods for ICS already
so how risky is it going back to 2.3.5 using the jig then doing the update through kies?
The same as every flash. But not all gingerbread roms have old bootloders. With newones you wiil not be able to reset counter with jig. It must be version with old bootloder.

Seems you like it that way. it's risky, but should fine, if nothing goes wrong.
PS: I will sure be the first person to laugh at you, if anything bad should happen to your phone!
I need to return an S3 for warranty repair. It was originally on the Three network, but has been unlocked, rooted and ROM'd a few times. Apart from flashing a stock ROM using ODIN, do I also need to reset the flash counter or do anything else to restore it to an acceptable state for warranty repair?
yes, you will have to reset the flash counter.

With Triangle Away 1.90, you can find it in th CF-Root thread
As Triangle Away needs root (which I currently have - I'm running CheckROM v5), presumably the sequence of things that I need to do is:
1. Run Triangle Away
2. Flash Stock ROM
Is that right?
yes, but at the end add a factory reset

Thanks. Just a thought - will flashing the stock ROM increase the flash counter (and hence defeat the objective!)??

lol...I must admit I asked myself that same question....but rest assured, no it won't, after you are done, go to settings/about device/status and at the bottom you should see unmodified
So flashing using Odin doesn't increase the flash counter? So is it only CWM zips that increase it? If so has this changed from the s2 as I'm sure CWM didn't increase flash counter

odin raises the flash counter with unofficail roms. Only sammy roms dont increase the counter and i think flashing throw cmw doesnt raise the flash counter if it is stock rom. But odin is always recommended
