Media Net Plan with AT&T problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem with my internet on my sg2, A couple weeks ago before I got my sg2 I had bought an matrix and put my sim in it. So their system registered that phone and gave me the 4g plan, I wasn't aware of it until I got my bill. I thought I was using the media net. I got it changed back to the media net again but now my phone doesn't get internet data. Does anyone know why and how can I fix it

on a different note, does S2 get recognized as smartphone with ATT?
Recently, HTC caved in and gave ATT IMEIs of all HTC HD2 and now everyone is getting switched to smartphone plans. I wonder for how long will Galaxy S2 be able to fly under the radar. It's only a matter of few weeks when ATT will get that list from Samsung and all these S2s will hit craigslist and ebay. Nokia remains a safe bet and doesn't have their eggs in ATT basket.

Login to OLAM and you see a pic of the smartphone and next you see a $25 smartphone plan they slapped on you that you can't remove. Actually, my 1st post was more of fear mongering. S2 (euro) will probably never get to ATT. ATT has all T-mo IMEIs, all Nexus 1 with ATT 3g bands, and all HD2. I read it somewhere. So, they are definitely trying to get their hands on smartphone IMEIs (?). We need some conclusive input from ATT reps, because 600 is too much to drop on a phone knowing that it might get picked up by ATT.

I called att and they still show me having a razor. They tried trouble shooting it and was unable to resolve it. They were going to transfer me to a level 2 aupport but the rep came back on the line saying that the weat coast was having some technical difficulties so maybe that's why it wasn't workiing.

[Q] Vibrant help with changing the imei #

Ugh... I am so tired of searching on how to change the imei number on the vibrant.
I have now for about a month.
I have tried so many updates and new roms to try and spoof up the imei number.
I have read alot of people talking about trying to repair their imei number?
Well my question is, what did you do to mess it up?
I need to spoof mine up because.... (long story)
I had the motorola cliq for about a year, loved it then some one stole it from me at school. Lame but forunatly it was around christmas time and I asked everyone for money to pitch in money so I could get a new phone. So I got enough money to buy the vibrant (off craigslist), and thats all I got for christmas. I got it about 2 weeks before christmas so it totally sucked to watch everyone open gifts in front of you and you just sit there with your phone.
Lucky this phone kicks ass
Sadly about a weeks after christmas, the phone suddenly doesnt connect to the net work anymore. We called t-mobile and they said who ever owned the phone before stopped paying the bill for the phone and its two year contract so the phone has been blacklisted.
So the only way I could use the phone is if I spoof up the imei number, now can some one please help me with this.
I am willing to pay money, whatever.
Oh and if I unlock this phone, could a at&t sim card work with the phone and connect to the network?
Please help asap.
You can't it comes with the phone
Its like the serial number can't change it

What about the second question?
If its unlocked (which it is) could at&t users use the phone?

Nice story but this is not true.
They only suspend the phone number (SIM card)
something's fishy.

1) Changing/spoofing IMEIs or ESNs is illegal. Look it up.
2) T-Mobile only blacklists phones if they were purchased on the EIP and weren't paid off, and I'm not even sure they're actually doing that yet.
Are you sure you took the phone to t-mobile and got a new sim card with your original phone number?
When you don't pay your bill they cut off your service. not blacklist the phone.

Hey I was in the same situation.. bought my phone off craigslist and had it on simple mobile (reseller of tmobile service) and after I had the phone for about the month it said no service. I thought it was a sim error but I tried a tmobile sim and the same thing happened come to find out tmobile blacklisted the imei because of a unpaid bill on the previous owners account but I did manage to get it unlocked and had to switch it to at&t so just to let everyone know t mobile does blacklist imei numbers now

help AT&T 10 unlimited plan got changed?

ok so i bought the UK version of the Galaxy S3...i was told by many since AT&T can't recognize the uk version of the phone, i can sign up for the 10/month unlimited data plan...so i called them yesterday and gave them my dummy phones ime number...everything was good all day phone worked great..but i just got home and i got an email saying that my "iphone" doesn't have the proper data package and changed it to the 30 month/3 gig plan...so i'm confused...did they know i was using a smart phone??
maybe i screwed up not giving them the galaxy s3's ime number?
Doesn't matter what country it's from they can still enter your ImeI and know what you using.
Lets hope AT&T doesn't do as they did with the N1 and go after the medianet users.
You are SOL, it appears in this case your phone IMEI algorithm is in the ATT IMEI sweeps. They have the UK SGS III flagged as an iPhone just as they had the white Galaxy Note flagged as a blackberry.
this is a hit or miss thing. Best thing to do is give them an imei of a dumb phone from AT&T. Been running with that on my GNote.

Yeah that's what I did do. I never gave them the s3's imei number. Gave them the imie of and old Samsung I had.

IMEI ranges are openly available and AT&T has the capability to scan for devices that fall within and then compare those to the data plan. The only thing that has stopped them from doing this wholesale is that it requires a great deal of resources and they have chosen to stick with the money. Otherwise there would not be anyone doing the medianet gambit without an IMEI spoof. The situation with the N1 was different in that they publicly stated they were going after Google and did so, it was a shot across their bow saying do not screw with our subbed phone system by getting into the business of selling unlocked phones to our customers. If they have decided to take this course with the sgs3 you will know soon enough as there will be many reporting that they were kicked to smartphone data but it would not be business as usual up to this time.
The other way that people get caught is that they are flagged at the time of making the switch by the csr and it sounds like this might be what happened here since this is the only report of it so far.

Galaxy s3 on telus ?

Hey guys
I have heard that Telus does use CDMA on some of their phones, I have ordered the GALAXY S3 from them but I am wondering is it the same one as Rogers/Bell ? or it is different? from my research I came up with the conclusion that they are the same but I just want to confirm since I will be using it on Fido.
Thanks in advance.
confirmed. telus, like bell have a CDMA network that is primarily used by older devices. they also have a gsm network (hspa+) which is what this device works on. Its also how they managed to get the iPhone on their network.
Thanks buddy! I ended up getting it from Telus even tho I can get it for 100$ cheaper from some stores or 50$ less from Rogers since they offered that..I like the way Telus deals with stuff and they give you 30 days money back guarantee without any hassle so I have 30 days to test it and make sure it doesn't heat as I heard or has blue/pink tints.

Yes, the fact that it's blacklisted simply means that Verizon's database shows it as not being able to be activated. This has no effect on the phones usability on another carrier.

Keep in mind att uses gsm radio and Verizon uses CDMA.
You may run into trouble.
However I believe the Verizon note 2 is a works phone?
Who knows exactly what that means for you.
God bless the American people.
Figures someone who uses barrack Obama as name wouldn't be any help how fitting. The note II has gsm and cdma radios. It's unlocked from the factory so you can throw a t-mobile, AT&T, straight talk ect and it'll work fine. The note supports 1900mhz frequency which is the refarned hspa42 for t-mobile and 3g hspa for at&t

I buy/sell/trade phones and I've run into a couple bad esn phones (no I don't buy them, shady people report them stolen). I actually picked up a Note 2 several months ago. I checked the esn over 611, came back clean, brought it home several hours later to put it on my wife's line. We popped her sim in, it activated, then almost immediately deactivated. After hours on the phone with Verizon they said the seller reported it and there was nothing I could do. We got her a new sim card and reactivated her S3. As I considered my options, the next day I called Verizon and checked the ESN again. The lady said it was clean. I didn't understand and took it to the store to ask a rep. It was explained to me that when a IMEI is blacklisted, it "burns" the sim card you put in it. Since we are in no way faulted on our plan, we were given a new sim card. The rep explained that the phone is blacklisted against that one sim card. So if I put my new sim in, it is now linked to my (clean) account.
Long story short - if you pop in a sim card, it will get zapped. If you get a new one and try again, it SHOULD work fine on Verizon.
I hold no responsibility to what you do or how accurate that info is. It worked for me and was approved by a Verizon rep. Try it or don't.

And "yes", it will work on AT&T if you add APN's. No LTE though. Only AT&T's 4G (kinda like 3G+) and lower.

If a seller reports a phone stolen, they can sell the phone and collect the cash, then turn it into insurance and get a new phone.
They don't care about you actually still being able to use the phone or not, only that they get free money and a new phone.
I bought my Note 2 off of Craigslist in November I checked the number with Verizon. I was told everything was good to go. About two weeks ago I got a call from the Sheriff's office letting me know that I was in possession of a phone that had been stolen directly from one of their stores. I had put my own SIM card in so I never had any issues.

I would assume that you could, Just because Verizon has put the ban hammer down on the phone doesn't necessarily mean that other carriers would also. I guess the best way to know is to give it a shot.

I had a similar issue with a S3 when they first came out. I traded a Razr Maxx for it. I used it for a while until I found a blue one, so I gave it (white) to my wife. About 3 months later I got a call from an investigative department of Verizon. I explained the situation and they allowed me to keep the S3 (unblacklisted) for cooperating with them. I gave them all the info of the person I got it from. That guy called me a week later to warn me that Verizon may be calling, lol. Turns out the person be bought it from had stolen several of these off a Fed Ex truck before they reached the store.

Any idea on where I can buy a Gear S for T-mobile thats not used or on Ebay?

I have searched the internet high and low, but I guess not well enough because I can't find the Gear S anywhere on the T-mobile site or any site for that matter, Refurbished or New. Is there a reason? Im guessing I should just call T-Mobile and ask where I can buy.. Why is it so hard to find? Obviously its almost 2 years old and yes the new S2 watch came out, but there are absolutely NO options to purchase at all on the T-Mobile Website, with the exception of a t-mobile page that comes up in a google search saying "buy now" with a picture of the Gear S, but when you click on the Buy Now button, it redirects you to another page. Are they just hard to come by?

The Canadian version from telus should be fine on the tmobile network as their phones are the closest to ours.

I bought an AT&T at a very good price off Ebay, and have been using it on T-Mobile without a problem. I have used with a SIM as a stand-alone phone, and without a SIM as a remote control for my Samsung phone. Most of the time I will use it without the SIM.
Yea, I went on swappa and there was nothing. I ended up finding a pretty nice one on Ebay. I went into tmobile and they said no stores will carry it anymore because it's discontinued.
I got an Gear S over the weekend from Rakuten. It is new, open box, for AT&T, but is unlocked. I am using it with a Tmobile prepaid sim for calls only and it works fine. I don't have data, but I do get the 4g signal indicator.
