Network Unlocking - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day,
I bought my new X10 in UK, and I'm having a problem unlocking my network. Is there a free apps in unlocking the device? its 3 network. Also, I would like to ask the advantages of rooting and bootloading x10. Will this unlock my X10?

The answer to both questions is NO, you'll have to seek elsewhere for a paid service to do unlock your mobile device.

I also tried to find a free way to do this but no, there is not. And for Xperia X10 is kind of expensive to unlock, and most likely must be done by software (just your pc and your phone usb cable is needed). Go to cellunlocker.net and select SE Xperia Software at the left menu and just follow instructions. To buy the login for the software you must pay 29 bucks, it's the cheapest i've found. And bear in mind that you must provide your phone's IMEI accurately, failing to do so means wasting your money, just type *#06# on your phone as if you're gonna make a call.
And yes, this works. Already unlocked 3 X10 with them. This will unlock your network so you can use any other carrier's SIM card and will work on your phone, also will allow you to use your phone's WIFI anytime, even without a sim card inserted.
But listen carefuly: Your X10 must be SPECIFICALLY on android 2.1 UNMODIFIED (no custom kernels) for the software to work. The login that you will buy will only work with your X10, it's bound to your phone's IMEI so don't you EVER try to unlock another X10 other than the one with the IMEI used to buy that login. EVER.
After you unlock it, the phone will stay unlocked forever. Then you can feel free to play with other custom roms provided on the forums which will make your phone tons of times faster and better.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Can you Sim-unlock HD2 via radio/rom flash like on HD1?

Hi people, Ive searched on this but can only find people talking about unlock codes and wondered if it was possible yet to unlock HD2 for free like you can on the HD1?
Ive just purchased a T-Mobile HD2 on ebay that is 2 months old and was wondering if we cant unlcok via free method is it possible to unlock my phone via code as ive noticed various people having problem with T-Mobile 2010 models.
Thnx in advance.
Free sim unlock is not available on HD2 yet.
Free unlock is normally only possible on old or obsolete phones.
For now, your best bet is take your phone to a shop that does unlocking.
I would not trust most online unlock firms for newish model of phone.

Unlock threads talking about codes, are mostly to change from manufacturers ROM.
Thnx for reply but think I will be trying with a company on ebay who do unlocking I explained it was only 2 months old and they said it wont be a problem.
If it is I will try the "Rebel" Sim card which supposedly unlocks ALL htc devices without codes etc. You simply slot it in underneath your sim and it allows you to use it.

Free unlock or Myth?

Hi people, I am looking for some X10 mini pro's to buy, but I mostly get people selling them in Spain, locked to Vodafone Spain.
I have seen some people advertise in the UK saying that they will provide a CD with the instructions to unlock your SE X10 mini pro for free.
Is this possible, or are they just trying to fool you into buying their phone?
In this time not possible to unlock mini for free, only via buy codes. Instruction on CD is scam, i can imagine it, on cd is readme.txt that contains "go to this web and buy codes"
If you buy them locked, budget in €25 or a little bit less to unlock them. So you'll have to knock the sellers down a bit
I just unlocked my (Vodafone Spain!) X10 mini pro via a web-based unlocker, worked fine.
Thanks for the information. After I get one for my wife, I will PM you if you don't mind about the syte you have used for buying the code. The cheapes one I have seen was 29€ and normally they go for 37€ on ebay.
I actually came across this site http://www.liberaporimei.eu/liberaporimei/c12839/liberar-sonyericsson.html on xda-developers. €22.35 to unlock a Spanish Vodafone X10 mini pro.
They do what it says on the tin They say they will email you a code up to 4 days after paymentis received, and it was exactly 4 days.
I went through the website, somehow I managed to place an order without giving any details or payment - got an email immediately from their admin about that. By which time I had placed an order with full details & payment, so no problem.
Anyway, in short, code & instructions worked fine.
Thanks for the information. That is the same way I have unlocked my HTC HD2 Spanish Vodafone, now that I think about it, I am buying lots of things from Spain hehe.
But the HD2 unlock was a bit cheaper, even thought it must surely be because I only bought it 6 months ago.
Thanks once again, and as soon as I buy the phone I will let you guys know how it went.
Hi Paul,
I want to unlock my phone as well, but I have a little question: if you unlock your phone, does the app update (SEU) recognize it as a free one and install the free firmware (without the crap movistar) or is it impossible?
Thanks !!!

I don't know the answer to that. I network unlocked the phone, removed a whole lot of Vodafone crap, and ran the app update. the Vodafone stuff didn't come back. Actually, I ran the update without the SIM card in via PC companion, so it was network-neutral.
So if you ran the app update and the crappy stuff of vodafone never came again... THAT'S GREAT !!!
I'm going to unlock it... I'll answer soon
More to the point, I think you can remove the operator-specific stuff independently of the network unlock.
That is, by rooting and CAREFULLY taking out the operator specific apps (there is a thread that describes that here.
Not sure exactly what the link is to the firmware update - and how to update via PC companion without a SIM...
Would be interesting to hear other experiences, though the real test will be when(ever) 2.1 appears. The minor update within 1.6 may not trigger a great deal.
All the same, stripping out the operator specific stuff is not that difficult or time-consuming
Really it isn't for the carrier stuff, it's cuz I like a clean software without intermediates... and for the newest updates too, I think 2.1 will be available for unlocked ones firstly
I used root manager to clean the movistar stuff (about 10 apps and games)
I would be careful about the free solutions out there. Even updating stuff before unlocking your phone.
For Samsung i9000 if you do a firmware upgrade (unofficial or official) and try a free unlock tool on it, it can permanently corrupt the NVM (section responsible for unlock) of the phone.
Original unlock codes will not work and it is not easy to fix.
I have used the liberaporimei.eu, but after 4 days I still have no unlock code. I think I will get one, but was not expecting it to take such a long time.
I think 22€ was a fare price for it. Lets hope it works .

Unlocking the phone...

so let's say i have an x10i and i want to unlock it... what do i do?
I think its the same thing as debranding the phone. Its a sticky at the top.

Unlock and debranding are 2 different things.
Debranding is on the stickies - involves installing the custom or SE ROMs. So let's say you have a Rogers or AT&T phone, instead of using their firmware, you install the Global Generic firmware instead or one of the custom ROMs. After install, your phone is now debranded and is no longer a Rogers or AT&T phone (from the firmware).
Unlocking the phone is carrier related. That is where your phone can only use SIM cards from a specific carrier. You will need to get an unlock code from the carrier or some 3rd party.
Debranding a locked phone won't unlock the phone. Unless the devs have done something new...
So is there anyway to unlock the x10a? with out paying or calling at&t?

Unfortunately not, at the very least you'll have to call AT&T (or email them). If I remember correctly, by law, the US carriers are not allowed to deny you your request to unlock your phone provided you have met certain criteria, e.g. your bill is paid up to date, you had the phone for like 3 months or something, etc. But they can limit the number of unlock codes they provide within a certain period to prevent mass resellers of their retail phones, i.e. they don't want you buying 30 phones from them to sell it on e-bay unlocked. But as long as you meet those criteria, the unlock code is free.
So if you met the criteria, they should do it for you without too much hassle. They might give you some spiel of how they are not liable for any damage or whatever you do if you unlock your phone and put another carrier's SIM card in there but hey, in the end you'll have an unlocked phone...

[Q] how to get orange xperia x10 free unlock code

hi xda developers!
my uncle sent me an xperia x10 which is originally orange locked so i want to unlock it to use here in philippines. i tried to bring it to the technicians and they're charging me lot of cost and i don't even have a visa card or credit card to buy unlock codes or software online...so can you guys please help me to sort this problem out? please
You can't unlock the phone. There is a software mod to unlock but not sure if you can find it. You will have to buy the code/unlock . I don't see anything else
Damn there was a site for this that was free! Only I forgot it... I will try to search for it for you!
thanks so much! will greatly appreciate your help to sort this out...thanks!
i just noticed, where did my other comment go? is there something wrong with my post?
Do you mean sim locked?
yes it is....
hey guys can you please check this out?
it says that it can unlock sony ericsson mobile phones for free but unfortunately i can't also download it here in our country.

maybe u`re thinking about http://www.omnius-server.com/, but they can`t unlock x10, only 90% of se models can be unlocked for free by that site

is there any other way i can unlock my x10 for free?
Yeah, I think Omnius *used* to have an option to unlock the X10 for free during a promotional period about a year ago for a couple weeks. I'm not sure if they could have done any of the Orange branded X10s.
Unfortunately, Orange is one of the most difficult (and costly) phones to unlock. The absolutely cheapest way for you to unlock it is to call Orange and see if they'll be kind enough to unlock it (I think Orange UK charges 20-25 Pounds or so, unsure of Orange France).
Only other option is to go with one of the remote unlockers. There are a couple companies that can send you a code with your IMEI but expect to wait around 25 days to save a few (and i do mean, few) dollars.

no but service provider (orange) will unlock it for free after 6 months of contract.
hey
i just started browsing around for you and whenever i got a carrier locked phone i always used IMEI unlock codes
try this http://www.cellunlocker.net/blog/2010/06/how-to-unlock-sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/
thanks for all your response, actually orange uk is charging 20 pounds to unlock it but unfortunately my uncle wasn't able to organize it as it was already sent to me via dhl. i don't know if they will still allow it to be unlocked as it's already here in philippines. I've been trying to browse around the unlockers to get a code or software to unlock it but as what i've seen there are lots of issues like:
on htccode what i saw just now is their system is seem down as per some client's recent posts who are wanting to get their money back.
and some other unlockers offer the code but will have to wait for 5-10 days. i know this is absurd but i have an itchy hand now so i really want to unlock it really quick and use it right away.
anyway thanks to all of you... if i get to unlock this soon i will post it here.
Hi! I'm also looking for the cheapest code, but for now, the winner is mrunlock for 20 pounds... I don't know if I can trust it... Have you find something cheaper???

[Q] Frequent Crashes, Debranding

So I've been reading forums like every day since the 12th(launch in Canada), when I got my phone. So it's not like I came right on to ask questions without reading anything.
2 questions.
First is:
About half a week ago-a week ago I was reading about someone having frequent crashes and didn't really think much of it because my phone was working fine. People suggested backup and restore with pc companion, as well as taking it back to the dealer for replacement ect ect. Moral of the story is mine is now randomly giving me errors asking me to force-quit. like maybe 3-5 times a day? Is this common for an android device? Should I even be worried at all?(Not really sure what I should be expecting in reference to what other people are experiencing.)
Secondly:
So I've read a bit about debranding, would that be an option with a locked bootloader, and would that remove all of the bloatware shoved down my throat by my carrier? If so, which debranding pack(not sure on the terminology here=/) would be best to use if wanting to be as light as possible. Would a factory reset afterwards remove the debranding?
Extra Info: Unfortunately because Rogers in Canada owns the rights to selling Sony Ericsson's even purchasing the XpS directly from the Sony store(which I did)($500 Cad. +12% sales tax) limits you to a carrier lock via Rogers. (and a locked bootloader) Unit comes stock with .73.
Thanks in advance.
For second question answear is that you can debrand with locked bootloader with no problem (you just can not instal custom roms).
So far lightest would be Nordic software and personally I like to use UK generic where all unnessary apps can be deleted .
Factory reset would not remove debranding ( just resets settings and all of your customizations).
If you want to sim unlock your phone it is not difficult just order unlock code. I got mine for $5 from ebay, received code in one hour, now using it with fido.
Hmm you're with fido now? Wouldn't the unlock code be the be the same? Care to share?
Thanks for the information on debranding.
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Unlock code depends on imei number of your phone.
I can share mine but it will not be accepted by your phone since unlock code is unique to each phone. Once you try to insert anything other then rogers sim card your phone will ask for unlock code, you have only 10 tries, after that phone will be permanently locked to rogers, so make sure you submit your imei correctly in order to receive correct unlock code.
In ebay just type unlock code rogers sony ericsson , the seller i used was freedommobile they charged me $5.49+taxx, see no point paying more then that.
Wow yeah.. I had no idea you only had like 10 tries. Can that be reset that counter via custom ROMing? I understand that custom ROMing sometimes unlocks, I was more or less asking out of curiosity.
Also.. If doing a factory reset wouldn't re-brand, Would doing a backup and restore via PC companion rebrand my unit? Or would that just restore back to the back to the base of what ever I used to debrand it with?
Uk Generic eh? Sounds like it would also be my cup of tea. I'm sure it's posted here, I'll use the search feature when I get home.
Thank you so much for your imput and follow up my friend.
