Thanks! Renaming it to Sprint_bootanimation.zip didn't work for me so i changed it to bootanimation.zip and it work perfectly fine =)

Yes you can. Its in the bootanimation zip.
This isn't working for me I replaced the original zip with the one from this thread and also changed permissions. I still have the same boot animation
Can someone enlighten me on what I may be doing wrong?

Is it named correctly?
And the permissions are set to rw r r?
And is it in the correct spot?
Have to ask, look at the default.xml in system/customize/CID look near bottom and make sure it is named like that says and its in the folder it says.

Hey guys,
I am posting this link to this sweet boot animation that usmc7356 created. The problem is that he is not able to get it running on the XOOM. Any help is appreciated. Here is the link the XOOM forums:
"My First XOOM Boot Animation"
name it bootanimation.zip and place it in the system/media folder. should run fine
edit: no luck. after extracting the zip, i noticed another the first file is named bootanimation as well. extracted those contents and rezipped them/named it bootanimation.zip. therefore once you open the bootanimation, it goes straight into the desc and the part0 folder. still no luck. ill dig around and see whats going on. no promises as i am no good at coding but we'll figure it out. stock boot ani sucks lol.
brain fart and i deleted the old boot ani. can someone post this please? thanks!

No dice pimp. I even tried just replacing pngs. Your desc file is right on far as I can tell. Idk man, may be the file size. I compressed the images as much as I could w/o shrinking the img size, including the zip itself. No dice there either.

This won't even work w/ the OC kernel. The person who made this has the OC kernel and it is not working on his either. It is weird as the bootanimation file is exactly the same as his. The file google put on there is nothing special.

@bigrushdog. The person who made this also found a file in system/bin that is a bootanimation shell file. I opened it and it is all a garbelled mess. I wonder if this might be what is controlling the boot animation file. Since I don't have root access I couldn't open it in text editor but that probably wouldn't have made a difference anyway.
guys, custom boot animation works just fine. all you had to do was change the root of zip from /bootanimation to /part0 and desc. the content should be in root, not in another folder. Posting link in a sec.
Here ya go, courtesy of bishop72
btw, this bootanimation is wicked!
Awesome!!! Now how do we install this
I just dragged and dropped it into the system/media folder . It does work (renamed old one).
i popped the bad boy into Data/local with root explorer and it works just fine

That looks awesome! But does it always take over 30 s to boot??? I haven't played with my Xoom a lot yet so I can't remember
Looks great, but I have a suggestion.
Make the data to the right load slower, and once it gets to the Invidia logo, let it sit (maybe with a "Starting Android" notification flashing somewhere) until the XOOM fully boots. It looks odd as a loop.
Otherwise, it's really well done.
It's only 512 x 256 pixels, very fuzzy. Am I missing something?
very nice man. hmmmm. can the xoom play sound during but up??

How to make a boot animation/boot image? Like replace the LG logo, and the Rom animation. A point to a guide or tut would be appreciated. Thank you
Sent from my VM670 using XDA App
To change the lg stuff is going to be pretty tough i link. Thats not part of the rom and might have to be done with like cdma tools or something.
But changing the goot animation is easy, just download the animation you want (make sure the resolution on its not to big) and paste it in the system/media folder on your phone with root explorer or something.
here is a link to the guide cyanogenmod wiki points to.
good luck with your project!

Even easier to place it to /data/local without any root required.
I wonder about this too. The bootanimation.zip is just that, the boot animation and doesn't even require root access to change. however, the manufacturer animation that comes before it I would like to change. I am running CM7 and would like to change the static red LG logo for the 'electron beam' animated one used in virtually every other rom, including the stock firmware. Wonder if anyone could just make a flashable zip to do this. I'm looking at wiki article and while I feel confident I could do it, it looks like a brick waiting to happen!
Thanks guys I got a new boot another and just replaced the obedience. Data /local and it plays just fine:3

the ROM animation is easy you can either get a existing animation zip and rename and replace the bootanimation.zip with root explorer depending on where it is stored in your ROM if you want to make your own the animation is not a video it is a series of png files so you can make one yourself im not sure about the order just take a existing bootanimation.zip and unzip it and take a look

Well, with the Evo 3D comes root, and with root comes S-Off, and with that comes custom roms and themes. So here is pushboot for the Evo 3d.
What it does: easily changes your boot animation and powerdown animation through windows.
Remember to start you need:
-HTC Drivers installed
-A working bootanimation.zip and/or power down animation
-Your phone plugged in to the usb port (lol)
-Only ONE .zip in each folder (clearly labeled.)
Other than that, I included everything needed to make this work.
Any issues let me know and I can try to help you out!
And leave feedback and if you like this, press the thanks button on this post =D
As things change, I will update the best I can.
8/1/11 updateV1.0 released
added option to send to /data/local
added option to send to /system/media
added some other small changes inside the .bat
Nice job. Will be trying it soon

Doesnt matter what its called with pushboot. you can put it in the folder and call the zip makeitfail.zip and it will work.
Pushboot changed the zip's name to what it needs to be.
Not all bootanimations are put together right, and that will result in a black screen.
Thank you for this...... it will be a time saver.

@OP: Nice!
@all:
This may help some others new to the bootanimation game and answer a question for me so I dont have to try it myself to see:
Do you have to manually set permissions on your custom Sprint_bootanimation.zip for it to work right? I do set mine but not sure if it'll work fine with defaults.
I just copy mine over the original (i know ill never use it again but i backup everyting) and set the permissions to what the factory had which was owner r/w group r other r. I never had any problems with that method.
I havent tried the data/local + default.xml way yet but when i have time to add sound to mine i'm sure i'll have to modify to point to the audio.
Another post back a guy mentioned he had a boot animation working using data/local folder but didnt mention a default xml mod...is this possible or did he just not mention the xml edit? I'm happy with the way i'm doing it...just like to know my options and potentially help someone who may read this not knowing.

Followed directions to the letter boot ani works but down does not.
Rascarlo from Rasdroid.com has a nice set of bootanimations he created, that I would like to share. As of now, I believe all of his bootanimations are 440 x 800. I have spoken with him about converting them to qhd resolution for our Evo 3ds. He asked that I make a thread and if anyone would like one of his bootanimations, he will convert it for us. He has already converted one for me and I love it!
