[Q] JIG on XXKI3 2.3.5 doesn't work - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i used JIG on 2.3.4 and work.... But now i updated to 2.3.5 via ODIN. Count meter was 0, but i flashed SpeedMod kernel and yellow triangle was appear. I switched off the phone and plug JIG, but counter DOESNT reset, there is 1 count and triangle
Is there some fix for that...? Thanks.

have you tried flashing back to a 2.3.4 via odin, then try the jig again?
Samsung have changed something to stop the jigs working, though I am sure the devs will be able to exclude that from the roms.

I want to flash back to 2.3.4, use JIG and flash to 2.3.5 = counter will be 0, but I thing when I have 2.3.5, JIG will not work and when i flash speedmod counter will not reset and triangle too.
I try it...

Resetting flash counter with newer roms.
I have no clue why people keep asking this. There's a new bootloader in the September ROMs. You have 2 choices:
1. You need to flash an old bootloader, kindly provided by Intratech. Read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17831528&postcount=60
2. You can build your own reset jig ver. 2.0. The new jig is the flashing cable with the 301K resistor attached to the microusb end. The erasing of the flash counter takes place WHEN FLASHING IS COMPLETE.
Maybe someone should add it this to a sticky how to thread.

The new bootloader changes the point at which the counter is reset, hence the usb jigs no longer work. You need to download the old bootloader from the original androids development section and flash that in using odin.
Edit: htc9420 beat me to it.

Still, might want to have a sticky of this so that we don't have topics for this popping up all the time.

Until now, the bootloader was looking for low and entered download mode, triggering the counter erase protocol BEFORE switching to download ( ODIN) mode.
With the new bootloader, the protocol fires up when gets the ''NAND write Successful'' from the ODIN running from PC. So, if it senses that pin 4-5 it's low after the flashing, it erases the counter; if NOT it just continue to reset the phone as per ODIN-PC instructed.
The new JIG is the old one but with the resistor ATTACHED in the cable. The old jig was used to enter download mode then removed. No more with this bootloader. The 301kR must be integrated in the flashing cable.
Take a usb-microsb cable. Cut the plastic sleeve at micro end. Remove it with care. Solder a 301k resistor between pin 4 and 5. DON'T cut any wires that lead to the BIG usb. USE this cable to flash the newer roms.
This cable can also be used to reset/flast the older roms. This version is more closer to what the Samsung BOX does.
I'll try and post some pictures later on.

or just connect an usb cable to the jig and flash through the combination of cable+jig ?

Wont the cable have only one free end that way ?

I don't see any reason to use a new bootloader, unless in the future newer firmwares won't work with the older bootloader.
I wouldn't be supprised if samsung change it, but if they left the option to reset the counter in, i would be supprised if the aim was to stop people resetting it.

[Q] How to reset Binary count without usb jig?

Hi,
Im a first time poster and I have read through the development forum about the usb jig to reset the counter.
I have a galaxy s2 and I was wondering if its possible to do it without a jig? I have reflashed my stock firmware however the count still says (2) I read a post in the development forum that its possible to flash to stock and reset.I would appreciate your help.
You need a jig to reset it. The hole point of the counter is to keep track of unofficial flashes even if a stock rom is flashed back on.
Now why would people be buying and selling USB jigs to reset their count if it could be done without a jig?
you need a jig ! I made one for myself. It's really quite easy if you know how to solder.
Doing your job with a jig would be done faster than creating this thread.
Get a Usb Connector, stick it into the phone, hold a resistor on pin 4 and 5 and you are done. Took me 5 seconds
I have a malfunction usb connector so usb data transfer or my jig is not working anymore. Surprisely the 3key download mode is working, and firmware flash with odin too.
So I need an alternate way to reset the counter before I send it back to warranty service
Is it stored in the bootloader? Can I reflash it with odin?

If the micro/mini usb plug isn't working, it won't matter if you have flashed any custom roms. (I mean for the warranty)
There are 2 seperate warranties, one is the actual device and the other is OS stuff (I believe)
Try this.
Remove battery, insert jig, put battery back in.
This method got it to reset when just insertion of the jig did not turn the phone on.

Highly unlikely that a product has two separate warranty and certainly would be new idea .
Where there nay be two distinct warranty's is one the seller warrants the phone for twelve months that includes original firmware .
Two is the separate cover Samsung give for one or two years .
Pointless manufacturing a rom counter if its not for some specific use and as Samsung have stated rooting and custom roms invalidate warranty then that's what its for .
Will service centre take any notice of a custom rom or root is an entirely different matter especially as few of them are actually Samsung .
Simple to solve the problem but id a user cannot then they just have to a take a chance . After all life is 5/4 against .

That's because either your usb jib is faulty. Or you flashed a 2.3.5 rom w/o reading the warning signs that the new bootloader prevents the jig from working.
Some of the latest ROMs have a new bootloader that apparently disables the jig. Intratech's thread has ROMs that use the old bootloader so that you can continue to use the jig.

Could be 1 of 4 things
1-USB plug faulty (if phone boots unlikley)
2-Jig faulty (if phone boots unlikley)
3-You have flashed the new 2.3.5 with new bootloader (non-wipe bin counter)
4-Your phone is turned on when you plug it in.(phone needs to be switched off)

Their is a USB recovery JIg post .
Basic put jig into USB socket on a phone that will not go into download mode and depending upon boot loader it may enable download mode .
Like wise putting jig in clears custom rom counter .
jje
The jig triggers a build-in feature in Samsungs bootloader by forming a circuit across two of the pins. It contains no software, only a resistor component to form the circuit.
So it's all done by Samsungs own software if that is what you mean. Power off the phone, insert the jig. The counter will rest, the kernel will show as stock and the phone will boot into download mode. But if you are using a new boot loader, the counter won't reset and the triangle will remain. You can flash an old bootloader to reset the counter and then flash the new one.

Um, ever thought of Googling "Samsung Galaxy S2 jig" ? What's to know technically ? It's essentially a couple of resistors over two pins of a usb plug. It's not exactly rocket surgery or hi-tech
Here. Two seconds on Google which you could/should have done yourself.
Edit to add - Another thing I found while merely browsing the forums

[Q] USB Jig not working on I9100

I've a I9100 and for certain hardware issue (Audio problem) I want to send it to the Service Center.
I tried different custom ROMs before coming back to 2.3.3 KE8 through ODIN as I realized the hardware issue was not gonna fix without sending it for repair or replacement.
Now, I bought USB Jig from Ebay and followed the instructions in the USB Jig FAQ thread but after switching the phone off and inserting the USB Jig it is not booting into the Download Mode ? Is the USB Jig not working ?
Or do I need to flash an old bootloader to get this working , if yes a link please ?
Yes most probably thats a bootloader issue...get an old bootloader from the Original Dev Subsection.
Mine for some reason doesn't automatically boot when the jig is inserted but it does do it's job when I just use the power button to switch on.
Then it boots into download mode and resets triangle and flash counter.
Don't know why. I bought it for my sgs1 so maybe thats something.
Anyway try doing it that way and see how you go.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I flashed the old bootloader posted in the intratech's thread here Still its not booting up.
And also, I tried inserting the Jig and then powering on manually that didn't work as well.
What now ?
Some peoples have posted on other forums about the USB jig doesn't work automatically when inserted (although it should...) Try inserting the jig, and powering your phone on. It should reset the flash counter, if you are trying to get rid of the triangle for "warranty" purposes
Are you close to any of these people?

Try cleaning the usb port with a spray duster or tooth brush and try jig again.. Also you may be unlucky with a DOA Jig...
Hey I just couldn't get the USB Jig working so I had no other option but to try the riskier method.
So, I updated to ICS (Resurrection Remix 9.3) and used TriangleAway and it worked. Then I flashed the Stock Rom by using Mobile Odin.

Seems like a dud jig to me. Mine automatically boots into download mode, regardless of bootloader.

The counter would not reset but I found a "GT-I9100_counter_patch.tar" file which I flashed (PDA) and then inserting the USB Jig it reset the binary counter to zero
PM me if you would like the patch file

[Q] JIG not starting download mode (normal boot instead)

So i need to send in my phone for repairs because my battery gets drained like crazy and i tried everything to stop it. (dozen different roms/kernels completely "naked" without ANY apps and it still drains ~10% an hour).
so anyway, my JIG worked fine all the time (got me into download mode every time), but since i need to reset the binary counter i flashed the XWKG1 firmware and the old bootloader through odin and everything works fine, except my JIG does not bring me into download mode anymore. when i plug it in, the phone just boots normally. i can get into download mode with 3 button method but it just shows me that the counter is still on 1.
any suggestions?
searching for this matter is kinda hard, because "jig not working" brings up all kinds of threads about the jig not resetting due to newer bootloader, and "jig not starting download mode" doesnt bring the desired results either.
so any help would be much appreciated.

[Solved]Help Required!! Suspecting Brick :(

Hello,
I am new to the S2 forum. I have purchased the phone on Dec 04. It came with firmware version 4.0.4.
The PDA was I9100XWLPW and CSC was I9100ODDLPC.
After a week, I flashed the leaked JB firmware XXLSJ and used PhilZ cwm6 kernel to obtain root.
I was not having any problems until today.
I was using the phone normally, it had about 60% battery. Suddenly it was not waking up ( The phone was not used for about 15min ). I tried removing the battery, all button combinations but was not booting normally or into recovery. I could get into the download mode by plugging the phone to the PC. Odin failed to flash the official FW and the JB leak. I followed the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 and found out it was a corrupted NAND r/w function.
I tried doing all the steps given in the thread. Now my phone does'nt go into the download mode and does'nt show charging when plugged to a power source.
Can I recover my phone?
Please someone help me or guide me to a previous post that solves this problem!!
Edit: Samsung service has replaced the mother board!!
Doing the pit partition has resulted in my phone getting bricked!!
So people new to the forum, never do it
Hi,
You said you couldn't access download mode, but can you access CWM recovery?
If you can then, you should wipe data/factory set, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik-cahe. after that you should re-flash your ROM.
If that doesn't work, maybe you should restore your CWM/Nandroid backup of your ROM before you flashed the JB leak XXLSJ, which in this case seems to be Stock ROM. (providing that you have backed it up in the first place)

We already have plenty of topics about this why do you feel the need to create another? Your symptoms are no different to others and the answers are no different.
If you cant access download or recovery and cant power on then try a USB jig. If that doesnt work then you will need to take/send it for repair which will either be JTAG or complete mobo replacement.
Just because you create your own topic it doesnt mean answer is going to be any different.

If you can access download mode, use it. Try re-flashing your kernel.

I am sorry!! I am new to this forum and the phone being a recent purchase, i was very much desperate!!
I know the answer may not be different and the problem may not be new hence I've asked to guide me to the appropriate thread in my post!! No offence!!
Thanks for your reply. I will be taking the phone to Samsung Service tomorrow.

3 100k resistors + 1k resistor in series connected between 4 and 5 pins of a male usb end when plugged will get you into download mode in case of soft bricks .

In some of the posts, I've read that a JIG may not work on ICS based roms!!
Is this true?? Should I try a JIG first before I take the phone to Samsung Service??
I was on XXLSJ before the phone went dead!!

I had the same problem.. I could get into the download mode by:
1. Phone completely OFF state
2. Connect the USB cable to the phone and PC ( The battery charging indication has to come, atleast once )
3. Fire up ODIN
4. Get the phone into download mode ( Vol-down+home+Power ) while the phone is connected
5. The phone is now recognized by ODIN.
I could flash a kernel (tried siyah and Philz) but the phone was not booting.
While trying to flash Stock and XXLSJ, ODIN was getting failed at factoryfs.fs
After a few trys, the phone just went dead!!
Hope you can flash a firmware successfully :good:

You are misinterpreting what you read. What you're referring to is resetting the binary counter, and no it doesn't work on ICS bootloader however it still works for putting device into download mode (unless its bricked).

"Soft-brick" has absolutely no meaning, Your device is either "bricked" or it isnt. Its a made up term by n00bs when they cant get system to boot normally. Your devcie is only bricked when it wont power on or go into useable recovery+download modes. If you can simply use a jig or go directly into flashing a rom then your device is not bricked.
The "bricked" term is used far too loosely nowadays.

Your phone died? you kiding ?
I'm using the leak version of Sammobile since 3 weeks... Why do you think the phone make a bad reaction now? why now?
Ok, you try to flash OFW and don't result. and then you flash again the XXLSJ ? and the phone colaspe?
What kind of roms do i flash? OFM or CFW ? ICS or JB ?
Well if a can connect with ODIN of course
A quick question!!
Is it possible that the phone can be revived (put into download mode) using a JIG if it is not starting at all for any key combinations and it is not showing charging animation when plugged into a computer or a power source??

Yes its possible which is the reason we already mentioned to try it
It all depends on the actual base issue though as to whether it will work. Its worth a try either way though, They only cost £1-2 or you can make them yourself if you have the spare parts. (Don't ask how, Use search).
I have tried the JIG, but no luck!!
I have given the phone to Samsung Service.
Hope they fix it!!
Will they use JTAG or it has to be done somewhere else in case Samsung people refuse to do it??
They wouldn't refuse just act dumb tell something like you were updating firmware via kies and all of a sudden power went down and device bribed
