Hi,
Somebody knows if is possible do a hardreset on Samsung Gio (have software unlock) without lose the unlock ?
The cellphone have Android 2.2
From the data I've gathered so far, the answer to this depends on your CSC customer.xml files.
If the files contain network lock codes, expect the phone to relock itself if there is no SIM in the phone at the time of the reset. It doesn't if it contains a "foreign" SIM that does not match the MNC in the customer.xml file. (I haven't tested with the "locked carrier" SIM to see if it did or not.)
Another thing to note is that the unlock code remains unchanged.
Goodbye,
Darkshado
Hi @Darkshado, thanks for your reply.
I buy this cellphone on ebay.
I only know the cellphone are unlocked via software.
Well... OK... If I do a hardreset... and the phone lose the unlock after this, and I not have the SIM of the original carrier...
Can I upgrade the cellphone to android 2.3.x and do a unlock again (exists unlock for this cellphone via software) ?
I very noob on android :S
Thanks.
It is quite possible the phone will remain unlocked after the factory reset.
You don't need, nor care about the original carrier's SIM.
Don't let the seller con you into paying a premium for the unlock on this phone model, as you can do it for free using information found here. Do not use the stl5 method as there is risk of bricking, bml5 is safe.
Next time, use the search engine right...

Hi, sorry... I'm ask because exists some things about Android world and I dont know this things
I have iPhone 3G during 1 year... and this is my first android...
Well... the principal reason to do this hard reset is because maybe the cellphone have a suspected app or spyware app... and... for security reasons... I want to do a hard reset... or maybe you can recommend me a other solution...
I see too is possible to upgrade the phone via Kies software (of Samsung)... this is true... the seller is from canada... but.. I'm from Peru... the carriers are diferent... you recommend me to upgrade the cellphone to android 2.3.x ?
Thanks.
Huge red flag here!
I live in Canada, and there are NO Galaxy Gio GT-S5660M that were released with Android 2.2. None, zero.
All the Bell Canada/Virgin Mobile Canada Gios are sold with Gingerbread 2.3.4. The model number is also different from the Europe/Asia version, notice the M added, the radio bands aren't the same either. (The 5660M would indeed be compatible with Claro in HSPA. The Euro 5660, not, only 2G GSM.)
The 5660M ROM does not have Spanish as a language option either. Only English, French and Korean (left over by Samsung for some reason...).
There is a 5660L some Latin-American users have mentioned. I'm not sure of the exact countries this is available in though. This would have proper radio bands and a Spanish ROM. It should be unlockable with the same bml5 method explained elsewhere on this forum.
If you think the seller is really in Canada and trying to scam you, contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police here (or just google for RCMP internet scams):
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/scams-fraudes/rep-sig-eng.htm
Last but not least, if the phone really had malware installed, a factory reset would not be enough to clear it, as the malware would likely reside in /system, which isn't wiped clean on a reset. You'd need to reflash the phone with a trusted safe firmware.
So, again, caveat emptor, and good luck.
Darkshado
P.S. Feel free to PM me the ebay link if you want me to look at it.
Hi... I send you a P.M.
Tell me... How I can now the exact model of the cellphone ? I only see in ebay the name of cellphone like "Samsung Galaxy S5660 Gio"
Thanks.
Hi again friend...
I talked with seller... and he tell me the phone is:
GT-5660 and confirm me the languages available are spanish and french... and have android 2.2
Then.... is possible to install spanish language ?
At this point, you'd have to ask the seller more questions.
I took a look at the eBay link you sent me, doesn't look as bad as I thought at first, but you still need to do your homework.
You said the seller was located in Canada, and at first I thought it was an individual trying to resell a single, used Galaxy Gio. It isn't the case, since this is an eBay store setup.
The first thing I'd be interested in if I wanted to buy a phone anywhere online, is to make sure that the radio bands are correct for the networks I want to use.
Not just GSM (most newer phones are quad-band 2G GSM) but especially 3G UMTS (HSPA). The frequencies used by competing carriers in a single country may even be different. Some carriers may have only 3G UMTS and no 2G GSM whatsoever.
The ad does not say what frequencies the phones are supposed to work on. Not something I'd expect from a competent, knowledgeable seller.
Have the seller take a clear, legible photograph of the sticker underneath the battery and show us that (with the IMEI blurred preferably). Also of interest would be the information in "About phone" listing: Phone model, Android version, Baseband, Kernel version, Build number.
With that information you'll be in a better position to decide if you still want to buy.
Or you could just get it from another seller, as there are a number of others offering both the Euro 5660 or American 5660M/5660L (they usually write just 5660 but state that its the North American version).
If it's not included, you should be able to get a ROM with Spanish working, either by using an Euro ROM on the 5660M (possible if you do it right) or if someone takes the time to upload the 5660L stock ROM.
I've said about all I could in this thread. Use the search engine, a lot, and feel free to ask more questions after you've exhausted that option.
A la proxima,
Darkshado
P.S. Yo hablo espanol un poquito: sufficiamente para no morir de hambre o de sed!
@Darkshado, thanks for your help.
I go to recover more information about this...
Thanks again
Hi... currently... I have Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-5660M in my hands now
The cellphone are very fast... I'm happy.
But now... I installed some applications (like a child with new toy ) and now I have problems with battery duration...
I want to do a hardreset... but... I need know if you recommend me this option.
I have this information about the cellphone:
*#1234#
PDA:S5660MUGKG3
PHONE:S5660MUGKG3
CSC:S5660MBMCKG3
In "About phone"
IMEI: 3XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Model Number: GT-S5660M
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: S5660MUGKG3
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL413839 [email protected] #1
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.MUGKG3
And I see is from Bell Canada company (the carrier)... but... is unlocked... and I can use normally with my country carrier (Movistar Perú)
Thanks
Big problem... After hard reset I lost the unlock... And I can't root the cellphone

hey, since the branded lumia is like € 80-85 less than an unbranded one, is it possible to remove the branding yet?
Not sure it's possible for now..
Sent from my Nokia Lumia using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
The branding only has two annoyances:
- The first boot screen has the MO logo (it boots very fast so this is not a big issue)
- If your MO is T-Mobile DE (or is just as stupid) then you'll NOT have the Nokia Blue accent color, but an ugly pink/magenta color option. But you'll still have the gray one.
As soon as there are ROMs for the Lumia you'll probably be able to remove the branding.
I also have a branded one... you can deinstall all provider apps that is a Microsoft requirement. The only thing is a short boot logo from t-mobile....
But times changed it's not always the best option to have a unbranded phone...
My Samsung Omnia 7 for example has been unbranded....
The branded versions of different providers had the Internet sharing update...
while the unbranded version of Samsung Omnia 7 had no Internet sharing update...

Yeah you're lucky though..
In France, branded versions are really bad...
- To bypass your carrier when updates become available from either Microsoft and/or your device manufacturer a registery key needs to be altered*. To do this just erase the following key which holds your carrier name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator. Please write down the current value in case you want to revert back to the current situation. Unfortunately there is no way to edit the registry on the Lumia 800 yet because registry editing requires interop unlock which is not yet done for the lumia.
- The bootscreen can only be editted by flashing a new ROM as the boot animation is a ROM file and cannot be overwritten, even if we had interop unlock. As of today there is no unbranded ROM released, let alone a tool to flash the Nokia with it.
- You should be able to uninstall the operator specific apps as this is a requirement from Microsoft to which cariers have to apply.
I hope the first two will be possible in the future.

I'm new to WP7, so does the descriped install/deploy steps in the above thread work with the Lumia 800?
I can buy a T-MO branded phone but I dont want any operator customization, especially that it removed the Nokia Blue "skin".
SO I first need to know if I can remove the branding before buying.

I do not see any instructions in that thread regarding unbranding? I don't think the phone will be debranded by just flashing a unbranded firmware and/or os update?

i need help also !
I downloaded the cabs and flashed my Vodafone Lumia 800 but it hasn't debranded it. WE NEED AN UNBRANDED ROM METHINKS
Tools needed for Unbranding:
Nokia Care Suite 5.0 (NOT 4.0, Product Support for RM-801 ONLY in 5.0)
NaviFirm+ 1.5 for downloading ROM-Files, they are already on the Nokia Server.
Theoretically you should be able to flash the files with Nokia Care Suite.
ATM I can't prove it, because I can't get Nokia Care Suite to work.
EDIT: Care Suite 5.0 working under Win 7 32-bit, no chance under WIN XP ...
EDIT2: Care Suite recognizes Lumia correctly ONLY if you put it in USB-Serial Mode via ODDT-Tool. Driver comes with Care Suite. But then its end-of-the-line, as Care Suite isn't able to collect any data from the Lumia.

Tried via the serial option in the ODDT tool but all options are greyed out in the Suite...
Dial ##634# then it will be installed.

Got the Diagnostic app, tried via Serial but all options are greyed out. Same for you?
Yep. It should work this way, but maybe there is (will be) a new version of Nokia Care Suite required because this one isn't working as it should be.
Jack
Problem seems to be (at least for me) that even though Care Suite 5 is installed no fitting drivers are found:

Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to debrand a Telus RM-819 Cyan. I have searched but not really found anything about this particular model. My father has a unbranded USA RM-819 cyan which was won at a Microsoft conference, so If it is possible to "extract" the firmware and put it on mine, I suppose I could do that.
Thanks,
Jared

Hi,
No you can't "extract" the firmware and put it on your phone. (not for now anyway)
But the good news is you can debrand your phone to any variant you want (or like to your father one).
What you need is:
1. Navifirm+ - an app to download the debrand fw
2. Nokia Care Suite - an app to flash/load the fw into phone
3. Install & run "Nokia Care Suite" & follow the prompt and flash your phone
I have flash many many Lumia 800 with using this.
BUT PLEASE BACKUP !! BEFORE DO ANYTHING AS I CANNOT HOLD FOR ANY DAMAGED.
Let me know if you have trouble.
and Wish You Luck !!
Thank you for getting back to me
Can you tell me if this is the firmware I would want,
RM-819_NAM-US_CV_VAR191249_CYAN_V1 (059M190)
It is is listed on .11501. That appears to be the unbranded USA version?

That's completely normal... You have to enter your SIM-card PIN code You need to do this every time you start a phone which uses SIM cards.
I see, well I bought the phone second hand so I was not given the code. I purchased an unlock code for $20 and it fixed the problem. Thanks for your help.

Couldn't you just swap the SIM card? I don't know if it doesn't work that way, but over here your phone number actually is linked to your SIM card. This means I would swap the SIM card anyway when I get the phone, and I'd get the code.
Telus apparently SIM locked this phone so only their SIM cards would work with it. I am in the US using it in Straight Talk (prepaid mvno), so I can't really swap out the SIM card as far as I Know.
one question ,is it possible that an unlocked lumia 800 was relocked after the debranding ?
because that just happenned to me. after installing an Australian firmware on the Telus Lumia, upon restart it said Sim Locked. good thing i still had the email when i purchased the unlock code and the same code worked again, but i dont get why changing firmware would relock the phone.

I guess that the phone, when bought officially unlocked is factory unlocked. Unlocking with a code obviously write something on the phone. That might be erased when doing a (full) flash of the phone. It does not seems to happens when using the zune or WP7-Update-Cab-Sender way (upgrading).

In theory the answer is No as this model should not be relock by after FW reflash/debrand.
Which Aus FW did you use & SW you flashed with?
You sure it said "Sim Locked" not something else?

I don't think it's possible. It's impossible to SIM UNlock it with flashing another ROM, because SIM lock is written on a special place in memory that shouldn't get flashed. So the other way round seems very strange to me...

I purchased the unlock code from http://www.mobileincanada.com/. It took about 2 hours to get. I should note that the previous owner of my phone (Telus RM-819) had it unlocked previously but that apparently gets cleared out when you reflash a firmware.

They gave me an e-mail address, i need to fill a form, and they gonna send me the code.

I'm currently in process of unlocking it.
EU law especially specifies it to be repaired, even the bootloader is unlocked and/or the end-user has root access.
Huawei may talk like that, but that's because they're a Chinese brand. Of course they won't want you to change the firmware.
Samsung talks like that too (when KNOX is tripped after flashing custom firmware via Odin). They repair it.

Yes.. I had/ have a sm-g965u and I flashed it to a sm-g965u1. It's not hard to do, but it's also not super easy. Honestly I'd wait another month or so until the offical android 10 is released. But if you really wanna switch to the sm-g965u1 it's possible and the guide is here in this forum. Just be careful if you attempt because you could brick your phone.
Sorry for being the broken record here but I have a Verizon s9 plus that's updated, and I want to flash it to the u1. Is it possible to do this because my firmware is the latest vzw?
Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
So how does one obtain either legitimate access to or a copy of illegitimate nature of this android 10.0 smg965u1 beta?

if i want update TO ANDROID 10 manually via odin patch, will it be network locked later?
i live in indonesia.
thanks before and sory for my bad english.
No worry about that be sure to update manually from:
sm-g965u to sm- g965u1
Download sm-g965u1 (this firmware is unlocked version)
Sm-g965u (this firmware working just with your network,, means ? locked. )
So download sm-g965u1 and you can just update it to android 10 manually via ODIN ..... read carefully my post.
So your question answer is NO , be sure install sm-g965u1 and no problem all your life, ( sm-965u1 (multiple sim , with this firmware put any sim .)
" if i want update TO ANDROID 10 manually via odin patch, will it be network locked later?" Never , install sm-g965u1 ok ?
Any questions???

oh man, thanks for your help n respons.
my phone at android 10 now, and network not lock.
thanks you very much:victory::victory:
Enjoy my friend
So what is the difference between 965U and 965u1 U is network unlock.. U1 is factory unlocked.. If flashing U1 will not unlock the bootloader, what good is it really.
The difference ? ...al most the same .. if you want to root you phone you should buy european version . Those version s965u -u1 , its american snapdragon. There is no way to root 100% , some one tried , they root this phone about 90% seem like everything is working but the battery is charging only i dont remember about 80% and some of the option is not working , like you can't buy through samsung pay or something like this ....
But if really want root you phone I recommend you European version s9 plus or s10plus or any phone with processor Exynox . They are 100% rootable, with oem unlock (bootloader unlock)

I recently purchased S23 Ultra SM-S9180, but i want to covert it to the global model SM-S918B, will it brick my device?
If you find an answer, please post it. I have also a S9180 but Hong Kong version, and would have been great to use a global rom.
What I really wanted to try is if there was a way to have esim, because our version doesn't have it.

Thanks. So I can't flash to global ROM, but in case I want to try, can I flash from Hong Kong to Taiwan? (They are both S9180). Seems some metro cards functions are desactivated on the HK version, but the Taiwan version has it.

No idea about those two, you can try it. You won't brick the phone, if there is an issue, it will fail to even start flashing due to a mismatch. But, as I love to say, do everything on your own responsibility.

Yes the BRI, TGY and CHC firmwares are interchangeable on an SM-S9180. According to MobilityPass the S23 Ultra CHC Variant has eSim capability but even if it works on your device the CHC Firmware is vastly inferior. As far as Metro Card goes I doubt it's compatible.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.
I read the mobility pass information that you sent, but I'm a little bit confused. I'm sure 100% Chinese firmware doesn't have esim.
There is no esim in China, and I went to a Samsung store in China, check, and even talk to a sells man.
Unfortunately I think that that MobilityPass just assumed that all the S23ULTRA variant have esim.
Anyway, thanks for your help!

If you install CHC Firmware then you can check, just because a salesman said it that doesn't mean it's accurate. MobilityPass doesn't assume that all S23 Ultra's are eSim capable, they specifically note only the CHC Variant has eSim capability with the SM-S9180. CHC Firmware overall is horrible considering all the apps you won't have pre-installed. My question is since you already have dual sims why bother with the eSim? You can only be in so many places at the same time.
I mean I went to the store, check the phone by myself, saw there was no esim, then talked to the sales (actually he thought that using Hong Kong firmware will activate the esim, but he was surprised that it was not the case when I showed him my phone).
I have 3 sim cards, which make me use 2 phones... And I travel abroad pretty often.

You can change CSC between TGY and BRI, using Samfw tool. Flashing Odin ROM won't change anything.
It's because both TGY and BRI are in the same OZS multiCSC and share the same ROM.
