[Q] updating to EH04 on lightspeed rom lte - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Kudos jfl0wers!
Just flashed on about 15 min ago. Runs great and seems snapper. Only problem is Im being prompted to update to EH04. Before all I did was flash stock recovery and kernel and I was able to update to EH04 with no problems other than having to reroot to get superuser working again. Any suggestion as to how to update to EH04 on your build or at least get rid of the annoying notification. Just to provide some info I currently have the updated EH04 baseband and obviously the EG01 software build.
Thanks again for the first LTE ROM! Great work!

Where did you find this rom? It is not listed on the android development. Where did you find the stock recovery? Are you using CWM for recovery?

I am working on getting updated. I will supply an update with EH04 as soon as possible.

[Q] Official ICS Update Removes Root?

I just used Kies to update my Samsung Galaxy S2 I777 from 2.3.6 to 4.0..3 ICS that just came out. I was previous rooted and now the root seems to be gone. How do i fix this and root my phone again while its 4.03?
Does the super 1 click root work on the official 4.0.3 version?
I would appreciate any help/directions on how to reroot my phone after i updated to the official ICS from AT&T. Thank you!
You can not root the official update

So I'm stuck with this forever or will there be a fix for this in the near future?
Btw was it normal for my root to be removed by updating my phone using kies? Because when i updated previously from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 OTA using my phone's software update option, it didn't remove the root. I was surprised to see that ICS did
Also, what do you guys think about using this method to root my official version of ICS 4.03 on my S2: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-ics-on-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/
I know most people on here don't like galaxys2root.com but I'm running the unrooted version of ICS from galaxys2root.com and am having no problems.

Yea but i want to root so that i can freeze apps using titanium back, as well use root capabilities such wifi tethering and root explorer. So i need to root soon. What is the best/safest way to do this on the official ICS 4.03 version?
Well I don't know why his rooted version would be good as well...have you read the comments on his tutorial in the link you posted? Probably will give you a good idea of how it's going for other people.

It seems to be working for some people but I honestly don't want to have to root using a I9100 version/kernel to have a root. I was hoping that there was an similar root to the super 1 click root method where you can keep your phone on the i777 version.
Also some of the comments say that they are having issues with certain buttons, and on the youtube video one comment says something about getting bricked. So idk
Restore to stock kh7 with root, then flash the official rom in the dev section is the only way I know of at the moment

My humbly tendered suggestion would be that you start reading here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659
Oh, man...why won't someone spend the time to find this poor guy the info he needs and post the links? It's not his fault he did an update without first knowing what effects it would have on his phone. What a heartless bunch you guys are. It's not like he's been here for over 3 years and knows how this forum works.
Yes you can root the update but trying to flash an update script thru 3e recovery didn't work for me and will format your sd card when you exit 3e but I was rooted within 10 minutes after upgrading to att official ICS. Just to be sure I downloaded/installed Superuser and busybox, then I flashed the CWM recovery kernel ( if you don't know ahead of time how this process works please research before attempting it) which won't boot the phone but allows you to use the button combo to get into recovery and then flashed the latest Siyah kernel .zip (or whichever ICS kernel you prefer), which had been strategically placed on my sd card prior to the Kies flash. And voila...root and recovery.

Why not just flash the pre-rooted version?
...and then there's that ! ^ As a matter of convenience that works too...but personally I like to take what I've learned thru these forums and apply it in real life to retain the process.

Another way to do it, if you have the Odin flashable files, would be to use Mobile Odin with the everroot option checked.

Telus Galaxy Note i717 ICS update issue

Hi,
I currently have a Telus Galaxy Note i717. I have my phone rooted and was using Objection ICs Rom before the official ICS release became available on July 13th. I have been trying to install the stock Telus ICS update ota and I keep getting a message saying the update is not available even though I know it is. I have looked all over the internet for a solution and nothing seems to be allowing me to update my phone with the official telus update. I have unrooted my phone, reset flash counter, whiped partition, cache, etc using CWM, and I am still unable to download and install the Telus ICS update. Any help you can give me would be great as I would really like to install the Telus ICS rom.
I'm having the same issue but I think it's because I still have cwm. Once you flash the stock telus recovery you should be good to go. I'm flashing that once I get home.

I will try installing this. I saw on the Samsung website the baseband version had to be I717UCLF1. But I believe by installing the OBjection rom the baseband version was changed to I717UCLF6 and in order to get the Telus ICS ofiical update the baseband version has to be I717UCLF1 in order for the update to download. IS this correct? and will downloaded the previoussly mentioned file fix this issue?

Before you do all that flashing? Did you do a nandroid of stock? If you did that you can restore your nandroid backup and flash the stock recovery.

It ended up being a radio band version issue. I found a link for telus-radio.zip on another xda thread. I installed it using cwm andit fixed the issue. My phone was recognized by kies and it updated my phone to ics 4.0.4.

[Q] what will happen if updated while I'm rooted

I'm on custom And I'm rooted
But I just got an system update
What will happen if u downloaded it and installed it?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
If the update has a new stock kernel (probable), you'll lose root. Easy fixed tho.
Custom recoveries will usually cause the ota to fail.
Losing root is another common result. You can also have a lot of funky things happen like the update will go halfway through and then fail, and that's pretty messy.
I would highly suggest waiting it out for your devs to build it into their ROM

Baseband version?

My current baseband is the i605vrall4 and im running beans 19....does this need to be updated to the newest vramc3 or is it fine running vrall4?? If I need to update could someone give me instructions on how to do this? Thanks
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
The latest is VRAMC3...but the changes were minor and if you have no issues on VRALL3 you don't necessarily need to update it. If you want to anyway you just need to flash the new modem in recovery. Search for Vramc3 and you will get the link to download it. You could also wait and flash it whenever build 20 comes out and you flash that...two birds, one stone.

Ok so im currently running beans 19....so in order to flash vramc3 do I just go into twrp and click install and find the vramc3 file or how do I do it?!?

Yep, that's it. Flash in recovery just like you did with the ROM. But if you aren't having any issues you could also wait for your next ROM flash. Just flash the ROM first, and then the modem. Either way...just don't expect anything major to change with VRAMC3, I sure didn't notice anything.
Whats the newest baseband out?
All my Note 2s are using old Roms ive had radio issues using lollipop. Just wanted to make sure my baseband is current.
Reason being is everytime I goto Canada now from the US I gotta switch to GSM instead of CDMA to get service. It used to be okay leaving it on CDMA.
Also I get nothing using the Global selection in the US or Canada…
Currently using i605VRALLJB

Hi, if you are doing OTA it will be 4.2.2 or 4.2.3 at best, you will loose root, but not files or data.
Some apps may stop working or work differently, nothing to worry about.
Thanks and hows that? Major improvements? Something always weird with this one was the greenish tint when shooting with the flash... Is that fixed?
And there is a new chainfire's root out there i guess....
Thanks

Just want to say this isn't correct. Don't know if it's mistyped or something else, but it should be 4.1.2 'at best'.
Last official (thus OTA available) update for S2 will be 4.1.2. Sad as it is, for today's standards it is still acceptable.
what do you guys think about the 4.3 like sentinel rom?

Yes i was wrong, long time didn't have to use stock.
As for ROM selection, try PAC rom, (latest nightly 4.3.1) I am really happy with this rom as my dd.
thanks guys, I am about to upgrade, just a question, can I use the OTA update even if my phone is already rooted and I have Siyah kernel on? is it going to break or get stuck?

The OTA will probably fail.....the OTA package looks for a stock setup, and if you've modified that setup in any way (custom kernel) the OTA won't install.....even if it *didn't* fail, the kernel would be overwritten and you'd lose root.
If it were me, I'd make use of chainfires mobile odin, download a jb firmware from sammobile and update that way......

Did you enable the 'ever root' option in mobile Odin?
If not, you'll have to root the phone afterwards (if you want to)
A good place to start is the PhilZ kernel (rooted stock kernel + touch cwm)

cheers, actually no ever root since I used the lite version eh eh... I just rooted with this method w/ Siyah Kernel. worked like a Charm... now I guess I will be busy customizing it.. it seems much faster between home screens I have to say!

Yeah....I guess that's 'project butter' or whatever it's called....it's supposed to give an overall smoother performance........
If you are going to stay with stock, my advice would be to 'de bloat' it.....I used Titanium Backup to freeze the bloat first, then delete it after I'd found out that it wasn't needed/critical for the phone to run.......

The thing that I hate the most on stock rom is that it drains battery too fast
