Ok im trying to mod the launcher2.apk to remove default wallpapers and some homescreen widgets i have used apktool to decompile and i have removed wallpapers and widgets plus all references then i compile using apktool if i push the file to my system dir and reboot all works fine but the problem is if i add this new launcher2.apk to my custom oxygen rom then flash the phone boots up but launcher2.apk does not load im sure this is a sign problem. Does any one know how to solve this problem and what sign keys does the oxygen system apks use.
The reason im trying to do this is i dont use any default wallpapers and i can get the launcher2.apk from 4.68mb to less then 500kb i will share the apk after its done. Thanks in advance.
Did you try installing it as a normal app ?

Yes it just says application not installed.

If you recompiled the app, try resigning it.
With what ?i tryed sign it with testkeys and platform and still does the same thing.
Please delete.

I was under the impression that if you're going to make changes to an .apk file, you had to decompile the .apk and make your changes, then take the folders you changed and push it to the regular launcher2.apk instead of recompiling and using the recompiled .apk. Doing it that way keeps the original signature intact.
I could be completely wrong though, so I would appreciate it if someone could confirm or deny this.
Edit: Just realized this thread was from 2011... My bad.
U shud have just zipaligned and batch optimized lol

Actually Im trying to change it to become like the theme in the link I posted in the OP. That theme wasnt made for my rom (stock) so I'm trying to accomodate myself. Ive used apk manager and ninjamorph too but this one is weird. Everytime I push to system/app it either disappears or the stock green one shows up. I finally got it changed a little but its the older version (idk how it became the older version considering I used the newer version and changed png) and its still mostly green. Is there another apk I must change? Thanks for the help!
Did you try going under settings, manage applications, market...and uninstalling updates...that fixed my vending.apk problems

the newest Market is 2.3.3 make sure thats the one your working with...
From reading a few other themed ROM sections, lots of people with themed ROMS are seeing their themed market apk revert back you the green market.
One suggestion was deleting the market updater apk, clearing ur updates and cache in the themed market apk, and then re-pushing the themed market apk back to system/app.
This worked for me when I was using gingerRED.
Goodluck.

The version I have is 2.21 & how do I uninstall updates?
Here, this is 2.3.2 CWM flashable, neon blue market. It will not update and change back to green unless you want it to. I already skipped two updates and very happy since it didn't change. You might have to reboot a couple of times before it changes and if it doesn't wipe data for market and reboot.

Ok I'm seriously doing something wrong because now Im trying to change my framework-res.apk and keep getting force closes. All I'm changing is .png not even .9.png. What am I doing wrong? Here are my stepsall using apk manager)
extract apk
change images as needed
optimize images
zip apk (using system option)
take apk and push to system/framework using various methods
the end
ps. all images exchanged are from roms or themes not supported by the stock rom. I get the images to go after Im done but also get hit by a million force closes.

I used Titanium pro donate version and froze the market updater. After that I used Root Explorer and copied the themed vendor apk and pasted it to system/app. Worked perfectly. I did have to reboot initially and it worked. Hope this helps.

Actually Im trying to change the framework-res.apk now I need to edit the thread title. I keep getting force closes when I edit framework-res.
Ps I pretty much never have had success editing any apk in the system folder. Can someone post a dumbed down tutorial on how to edit apk's in the system folder?
Hey there guys.
Just wanted to ask something...
Now that we're rooted, we should be able to install some custom apks + permissions, right?
There was something that tickled my interest even before...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982051
The Xperia Play wallpaper... already up and working on the X10 mini (pro), how about being able to install that on our little handset as well?
Yes we just need some volunteers that'll do that for us dumb users!
Would be awesome if someone took the time to do so... I actually think it would fit the Arc perfectly.
Given the similarity in specs, would it not just be a matter of a rooted Play user extracting the APK and making it available?
Works on my X10 when using 2.3.3 fine so cant see why not
Sent from my X10i TripNMiUI using XDA Premium App
Well for that we'd still need someone wouldn't we...just where to get the unchanged apk from.
Well maybe festa20 will be kind enough to share it.
Well the problem that I see is that the version in the aforementioned thread is for xrecovery, which we still don't have on our arc.
The question is if adb pushing or moving with root explorer would work with adb pulled play apk and permissions
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
I'm a total noob, but you could try these.
I think I would still need the required permissions when adb pushing those apks, since they don't get installed by themselves, that's what I was told in the development thread too
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
missing shared library? ...hmmm
That's what I meant with missing data... and that's why we'd prolly need a dev's opinion on how or if this is possible...
Sorry for Pushing, but still unsolved :s
Hmm i'm running the play live wallpapers on my arc for 2 weeks now, works like charm.
Just download http://www.mediafire.com/?68v0dnvf7912d7c
copy each file to their corresponding directory (like they are in the zip)
system/app
system/etc
system/framework
system/lib
set permissions properly to 644 on each files and voilĂ .
Can something go wrong when messing with these files?
Sorry, im a noob at this.
Not really because they don't erase any existing files, there are new ones.
Thank you so much, works like a charm!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Sure, no pb
They work great, don't lag at all, the system stays snappy, and battery life not impacted
thank you piflechien, installed just now and looks very nice
hi
sorry if this sounds noob, but I can't seem to install the files. I have put them in the folders but it keeps saying app not installed. please help me
poloracer11, using root explorer, you just need to move those files on the respective folder as mentioned on the guide above (don't try to 'install' the files otherwise you will get the error), then long press each files and set permissions to:
user:read-write
group:read
others:read
then reboot, can be selected now on live wallpapers
Whats up?
Is there any apktool that decompie and compile an 3.6 and 4.0.3 apks?
I tried Apk Manager v4.9, getting errors.
Thanks!

Ok here is the process:
Use apktool 1.4.3 to decompile the apk after loading the resource files obviously.
Then make all the modifications you want and recompile with apktool 1.4.2, now open original apk and modded apk with 7zip and replace "resource.arsc" file from modded one to the original one and you are done.
This is how it is done atleast in my case.
If you didn't understand I'll try to write a post with Screenshots if I find some time, hope it did helped you.

I wasn't successfully able to decompile/recompile stock framework-res.apk from HTC Vivid 4.03, but I was able to decompile/recompile the one from UOT Kitchen after I did a battery icon mod.
I'd try that if you guys still have problems. You may not actually have to even mod anything, just upload the required files, then download UOT's zip, then decompile/recompile using the tool in this thread.
Greetings XDA, Im new here and i need some help regarding apk multi tool.. Ive searched the forums but i couldnt find any suitable answers
So I am trying to decompile the framework-res.apk and edit the styles.xml in values folder .. but everytime i compile it back and push it to my sytem/framework, and restart my phone bootloops..
this happens even if i donot mod anything in the apk and just decompile - recompile - push..
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance

This is wrong. Never sign a system framework file. You only sign user apps and a very small number of system apps.
What changes are you making? For what OS?

ohhk! It happened to me as well and someone told me its because I haven't signed the APK.
Anyways, Thanks for correcting me
Try by making compression level to 0 and heap size to 512
This solved my problem though.
Also be sure that u don't get any errors while compiling the apk.
Hit thanks if helped

I would like to replace the stock MMS emoticons with the ones provided in this zip file as Icon_pack.zip according to the array.xml map provided; also in the zip file I have been trying all day to compile the replacement but apparently my xdaAutoTool just isn't set up right. I have also provided my framework-res.apk; I am currently using HyDrOG3N-ICS-03-31-12-SGS2 based on AOKP 4.0.4. How do I do this?
I will provide anyone willing to assist with any other files necessary.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am even willing to buy anyone a beer if necessary (Paypal Only)
Is the aforementioned process even possible?
If you are just replacing the emoticon images why decompile? You can just replace those using zip software's right?

Blackberry use those codes so when my GF sends from her BB majority of these emoticons like the hug ({}) i don't see the picture smiley so i wanted to have them implemented into my messenger its just that i can't seem to get the compiling done on my pc and would wish if someone could just compile the apk with the array.xml provided
Success
I have done it have compiled and built my tailored mms.apk with emoticons of my choice.
I have uploaded a copy of my work the MMS33.apk uses 33x33px sized emoticons while the MMS48.apk uses 48x48px sized emoticons.
Sighz after a lot of reading and trial and error it's been done the MMS.apk is based on a copy obtained from HyDrOG3N-ICS 31-03-12 (AOKP ICS 4.0.4) anyone is free to use. I will just buy myself that beer!!!!! willing to help anyone with there customisation of the stock MMS.apk
EDIT: The noses have been removed and the syntax is heavily based on BB/iPhone
Can you share how to disable noses from message smileys? IT would be great
You need to decompile the MMS.apk and edit the array.xml file changing the smileys to without the noses and recompile and build a useable MMS.apk you can try the newest build I have made of the 4.0.4 for AOKP with smileys and emojis
How?

Hey, will you please tell me how you worked out while changing images? It's because every time I try to put that apk in my phone(after decompile/recompile with stock images replaced), no such app is shown in app drawer.
Help me what to do after replacing images.
Thanks.
I would suggest you extract the mms.apk from the current ROM you are using and decompile replace the emoticons you want with .jpg if the same name edit out the noses if you wish and then recompile. Copy to system/app directory removing the previous mms.apk that was there first. Change the newly copied mms.apk permission to (rw- r-- r--) and restart it should show up in the drawer. If it doesn't head over to system/app again and touch the mms.apk and install it once installation is complete it will show.
NB. There should be no errors when decompiling and recompiling your mms.apk
