Hey guys
I have GSM UK version which had 1.20.xx stock rom and 1.49.0007 hboot. My phone was rooted and s-off using revolutionary. I updated my phone to get locale language to 1.24.xx
so does the hboot, its now 1.49.0012. My phone is still s-off but its locked.
What do you recommend guys? use HTC method but it may s-on, or flash stock RUU but im not sure if it will downgrade hboot. I only need root atm and maybe later when kernel sources get fixed I need CWM recovery.
Any help would be appreciated.

HTC Unlock method not related to S-Off or S-On. It only relates to top line : LOCKED, UNLOCKED or RELOCKED >>> I think you can safely unlock the HTCdev without fear of loss of S-Off
Thanx m8.
Now, do u think if I flash stock UK rom will I get my old hboot back??
WOOOOPY!!! flashed stock RUU and got my old hboot 0007
We envy you Scorbion! - got an asian device here HBOOT 1.49.0011 there's no way to get S-OFF atm..

Hi,
I have rooted HTC Legend with Alpharev S-OFF.
I want to return the phone to the carrier because I have a problem with the touch screen.
I understood that S-OFF cancels the warranty, but when I return to stock ROM (RUU_Legend_HTC_ISR_2.05.461.52_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_140015_signed.exe) the HBOOT remains Alpharev S-OFF.
Anyway to flash the original 0.43 HBOOT over it?
Thanks.

since you have alpharev hboot now (1.00) you can't downgrade, you can however upgrade to 1.01, just download the latest ruu and try installing that
According to the warranty, any software update I make, which is not made by the carrier, revokes the warranty, so either way - having S-OFF HBOOT 1.0 or having S-ON HBOOT 1.01 (The option you gave) - I can't repair it through the carrier..
Thanks anyway

you can install the one i gave you so you have hboot 1.01 S-ON, and then you install the one of your carrier
should be possible
It will work, but the HBOOT will remain 1.01, and not 0.43.. So they will probably see that I did install a software on the phone.

Since we can't downgrade our hboot, you are stuck on S-OFF alpharev (1.00) or on
S-ON hboot 1.01
If you are going to send in your phone do it with s-on, i bet they dont even look at the hboot version, but if they do you better have s-on

hello all
my phone is bugging out and some one suggested to flash the latest RUU.
- quick question.
---if i flash the latest RUU will i loose root?
Yes you will lose root.
thank you.
Quick question ............
-how can i flash a RUU that has the Hboot of 1.4 instead of a 1.5.
(can some one please help me my phone randomly reboots on any rom, i was recommended to flash a RUU and then unlock again)
If your current HBoot is 1.50 with S-ON you can't downgrade the Hboot, at all. You won't be able to flash a lower Firmware/baseband than what's currently installed either, but you can reflash the RUU for what's installed or a newer one.
If you have HTC Unlocked HBoot 1.50 and S-ON, you can get more info that may help you in the Guide/Flashing notes in my signature.
Edit: Saw your question in the other section that you have Hboot 1.40. Disregard
Hey! A while ago I rooted my phone using the revolutionary method. Later I reverted back to stock and locked the bootloader. However the S-OFF remained. A few minutes ago I had 1.53 HBOOT and ICS stock. But now I got HBOOT 1.49.0007 and I wanna use revolutionary tool to unlock bootloader yet again. But now it gives me an error saying, "Failed to get root! "
Is there another way to get rooted WITHOUT using the HTC method since I already got S-OFF and 1.49.0007 HBOOT? I don't feel comfortable using HTC's method....

I think the "Failed to get root!" message is because HTC patched the tacoroot exploit in the ICS builds that was being used for temp root with the GB builds.
Why do you want to unlock the bootloader? If you want to run the additional fastboot commands you should be able to just flash the JBear version of the current bootloader, or does that cause problems on the GSM model?
ramjet73
Since you are S-OFF you can flash whatever bootloader you want. I don't know revolutionary method, I was using jbear to get S-OFF. After S-OFF i flashed RUU and I was on stock 1.53.007 locked bootloader with S-OFF and i couldn't root my phone. I've flashed hboot from this site:
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
There you have 2 versions of GSM Evo 3d hboots. After that you can do everything with your phone. Good luck!

I contacted unlimited.io's support in the IRC and downloaded the ICS HBOOT - 1.53.5353 and flashed that. Now it seemes to work!
Anyway, thanks for your answer! If they wouldn't have responded then you would have been my savior!
Okay, problem number two.... I have flashed CWM now and I installed Super User inside recovery mode but I don't get root access? I downloaded the signed package from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991929
Any ideas?
I have tried to repair premissions after the install of Super User. I have also updates Super User from Market after Install due to force close after the fresh install from CWM

Follow method B (steps 1 to 14 if you want to be on rooted stock) and it should be ok. If I remember correctly, there is a 4ext recovery to download, maybe try this one. Good luck!
I have read pages and pages from the Android Development forum for the HTC Evo 4G LTE and I can't seem to find a solution that works for me because going S-OFF or re-locking bootloader and loading RUU does not seem feasible for my situation.
The phone has custom recovery (TWRP) and we successfully loaded Viperboy's deodexed 3.15 stock ROM.
Baseband is 1.02.12.0427 (super outdated)
This phone was bought second hand and is a HTC dev unlocked phone, S-ON
I would like to update the baseband to 1.12.11.1200 and update the firmware to 3.16
Caveats: I don't have access to the phone, my friend can reload custom ROMs through TWRP, but beyond that I don't think we can go through Dirty Racun and S-Off, I don't know how we can easily check the HBOOT version to determine if the HBOOT version is 1.12
What would happen if we accepted the Sprint OTA? Are we SOL with the baseband because we are S-ON?
Is there any way we can get on MeanBean 3 or stock rooted 3.16?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
I wouldnt accept the OTA update to 3.16
I actually did just that when I relocked my phone on Saturday and had all sort of problems after that. Now, I'm not too sure you would even be able to install the update being that your phone is unlocked *citation needed*.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2135670 - talks about the 3.16 OTA problems
thanks, I've definitely advised my friend to stay away from the OTA and disregard it. I think we are experiencing call/wifi issues due to the old baseband. I wonder what are the next possible steps to move forward from here...

1. Stay on this baseband and deal with it.
2. Relock and RUU your way up to 3.15 (stay away from 3.16)
3. S-off and Flash a couple full firmware zips.
Sadly I think those are your only option. And to check your hboot just boot into bootloader. Hold volume down when powering on.

Thanks, I think that seems realistic, I'm concerned that if I relock through HTCDev, I read that some email/password might go to the original seller of the phone (ebay) for confirmation code, so I don't want to get stuck halfway
I am definitely crossing my fingers for HBoot v1.12, to confirm, once I check my version in the bootloader, I guess I can escape without taking any of the menu options (checking YouTube, I'll just go to recovery, enter TWRP, reboot, system).

Relocking the phone is done through fastboot on the computer. Nothing to do with HTC. And Dev unlocked means you get an unlock token from HTC to the email that you signed up with. So if you make your own account on HTC dev and request a token, it should send nothing to the other owner.
And sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by having Hboot 1.12. You mean only flashing the radio through recovery? If that's what you mean than I can't help with that. Not sure how that works or if there are problems with that.
great news! I had someone take screen shots of the HBoot (v.1.12.0000) and TWRP (v2.2.1) menu
Bootloader shows:
Code:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
JEWEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.12.0000
RADIO-1.02.12.0427
OpenDSP-v25.1.0.32.0405
eMM-boot
So as far as I know, I'm going to make sure there's nothing wrong with the TAMPERED, and then I can flash 1.12.11.1210 through Captain_Throwbacks Radio Only zip and then looks for a 3.16 custom firmware compatible with S-On since I'm on build number 3.15.651.16 CL124461.
I'd appreciate anyone to chime in if I'm going down a bad path here. Cheers!

You've indeed unlocked the bootloader properly but this only let's you flash recoveries and custom roms. You have to S-OFF the phone to update firmware via bootloader. You're other option would be to RUU which would upgrade the firmware and software and that CAN be done with S-ON, however there is a problem with the update which disables touch input so you should either wait for a dev to make custom 3.16 rom and forget about the firmware OR wait for a fix from HTC and run that RUU whenever it comes out.

Thanks xlxcrossing! I messaged Captain for a a recovery flash for the baseband only and he said my approach is no good either. So seems like I have to RUU to get off 1.12 anyways since LazyPanda is not supported and DirtyRacun starts at 1.15
So I am looking at the UNLIMITED.IO site now
step 1) relock via fastboot
step 2) RUU 1.15 or 1.19 (so this means my firmware/software/hboot will be updated as well?)
From here if I stop, I will be S-ON so I can...
option 1) RUU 2.09 and stay on 3.15
option 2) unlock bootloader from HTCDev and stay S-ON
option 3) unlock bootloader from HTCDev and DirtyRacun S-OFF (which actually seems like a very simple process once unlocked)

Sent you a PM
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much
Just wanted to say thank you all for the support and advice.
I finally walked my friend over gtalk and successfully achieved S-OFF after relock, 1.15 RUU, unlock with HTC DEV, dirtyracun
Then updated full firmwares incrementally to 3.16
Then while trying to load MeanBean, realized we lost TWRP (and possibly root, need to confirm), I can only guess that went away with the RUU? That's not really documented anywhere unless that's a known thing.
TWRP installation via goomanager failed (maybe due to lack of root), I was able to find TWRP v2.3.1 bootloader, installed that and installed MeanBean 3.0.4
I think that makes us up to date, however we will likely install SuperSU via TWRP once we customize and ensure the phone is running smoothly.
Thanks again all!
Super su is included with the ROM

I have just got an evo 3d, previosuly owned one, and stupid me forgot to make a back up of my stock rom before i rooted and flashed an ICS rom.
Im in Australia on OPTUS, the CID is OPTUS001 and i cannot chnage this.
Im S-on, with Hboot 1.53.007 and htcdev unlocked
I have tried lots of things but cant for the life of me figure this one out.
I want to S-off and downgrade the hboot. But to do this i need s-off and need to change the cid, which i cant right now
Where can i get the OPTUS RUU for ICS? I have tried the asia RUU but it fails with incorrect CID
I have 4ext recovery and also have fastboot access
Or what can i do?
many thanks in advance

Okay. You are S on and have a custom recovery. Why can't you s off then? Do the wire trick. Unlimited.io has everything you need to know. After s off downgrade hoot and change cid if you need to. Hboot downgrade -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906172

Not that I know of. Any one else hear different?
Soff with wire trick works ONLY on stock rom from ruu. Not even a flashed one that says stock... His only chance is to find a ruu compatible with his cid (sorry bro, cant help you there, i searched a bit but no good results).
Other case, you can enable Smartflash in 4ext tools and use custom ics roms, but only sense roms. On that bootloader you cannot flash anything else other than sense based.
Just as a question, did you by chance try the european ruu? I have a feeling it might work...
