I've been trying to edit a json file to change my web search preferences. If I navigate to the relevant file with Internalz Pro & try to open it I get a "no file handler" error message even though Internalz is registered as a text file handler.
I also tried it with Impostah installed. Trying to open the file results in a blank Impostah window.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Have you tried uninstalling Internalz Pro and reinstalling - just a thought.
yes, no dice
Maybe an interim workaround would be to use Internalz to copy the file to the /media/internal folder, then you can access is via USB and use a unix-friendly text editor to alter it and then use Internalz to copy it back over the original.
Notepad++ for Windows would be something you could use to make the changes.
Open it via xterm from preware. I think there's at least a version of nano in there too and I think vi comes installed already.
Thanks guys, I think I'll try copying & editing it with Notepad+++ in Windoze. vi gives me nightmares! I was just puzzled why Internalz wasn't opening the file when it has worked for others.

I have a 64gb MicroSD card installed, and put a copy of my photography website on it. I find I am unable to figure out a way to open it in Google Chrome.
I used ES File Explorer's FTP function to begin with, to copy files from my website to the card, and this worked beautifully. When I click on the index.html file on the card, the only options offered are HTML Viewer and some text editors. Chrome is not an option (Chrome is the default browser for my phone). I can try "Open as" and choose Chrome, but get the same error message as below.
If I long-press the file, and select Properties, I can copy the (full) Path for the file, but when I paste this into Chrome's URL bar, it won't open:
Access to the file was denied
"The file at file:///storage/extSdCard/PhotoWebsite/index.html is not readable. It may have been removed, moved, or file permissions may be preventing access"
I have searched quite a bit, and tried various addresses, including localhost, localhost/mnt, content:, etc., etc., but nothing seems to work.
Ultimately I want to have a Bookmark in Chrome where I can view my website offline when necessary, but this seems to be more complex than would appear necessary.
Any help appreciated.
Seriously? Is there no way to accomplish what should be a fairly basic task: for a browser to open up an html file???
First off I will say this is the greatest tool I have ever came across and I am thankful for anyone that had hand in its production. The tool of course is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=873466 and it has been working great for me. But earlier today I used winrar to open a com apk file and edit a specific txt file however I accidentally didn't un-click the "use as default program" box and now right-clicking and apk file will not display the decompile option or install to phone option any longer. I figured since the default program had been changed it was not being recognized by one click apk any longer so I deleted the default program for the apk file type in the registry and uninstalled then re installed the shellext for APK_OneClick however the right-click apk options still will not show. I can recompile folders to APKs but nothing else. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated and thanks in advanced it is driving me crazy.
I am assuming my problem is fro the whole winrar accident as the icon provided with OneClick no longer is displayed for apk files either I just can't solve the issue.
I have tried open file with whe right clicking apks and it will allow me to select the decompile file in the APK_OneClick folder manully but then after recompiling the disarm folder back into an APK it fails to install to the phone via USB and after moving it to the phone it has a parsing error. Any help on how to fix the right click problem or at least fix my parsing issue would be much appreciated. Thank you all!
Hey guys,
I have a problem with editing the hosts file on Android.
At first, some general information: My Phone is a rooted Samsung Galaxy S6 with Android 7.0 and for editing I use the 'Total Commander for Android' tool by C. Ghisler (Version 2.90).
So here's my problem: I put together a huge hosts file for my Windows PC (some own entries, a lot of entries copied from someonewhocares.org/hosts) and wanted to copy the entries from my PC to my phone. So I duplicated the file, used Notepad++ and did " Edit --> EOL Conversion --> Unix (LF) ". I then sent the file via e-mail, so I could easily download it from my phone. Said and done, I downloaded it and put it into /system/etc , but when I try to visit one of the sites in the hosts file, it works although it should'nt work.
When I open the hosts file on my phone via total commander and add an entry manually, it works (site is unavailable after doing so).
But if copied into the file (even in Unix format) the system will just ignore the entry.
I have a list with a little less than 10,000 entries, I can't type them all on my phone. What can I do now, so that the Android system will use the hosts file as it should?
Thank you very much

Oh, that is, in fact, pretty simple. It was pretty late when I did this yesterday and I was tired but wanted to get this done before going to sleep. So I made some stupid mistake. I don't know what it was, might have been that I reopened the file in windows editor, might be that I copied the wrong file, I really don't know.
Did it again today (this time without making a stupid mistake) and it works like a charm.
So for everyone who wants to do this, here's a step-by-step instruction (works with Total Commander or with ES File Explorer and should also work with every other root file explorer)
1. Edit your hosts file on your Windows (or Apple) PC as you wish
2. Copy the hosts file and put the duplicate into any other folder on your PC (just not the one with the original hosts file )
3. Open the duplicate with Notepad++ and change the format into Unix (Edit --> EOL Conversion --> Unix (LF))
To control whether everything is changed as necessary you can show the format of the line breaks by clicking View --> Show Symbol --> Show End of Line
4. Move the file to your Dropbox or OneDrive or send it to yourself via mail or, or, or...
5. On your Smartphone copy or move (as you wish) the file from your selected file exchange system into /system/etc
6. Done.
Of course this is only possible, if your Smartphone is rooted and your file explorer has root access.
If your using a Linux system and want to copy the hosts file from your PC to your smartphone you can leave out the third step because the file will already be written in Unix format
I have used ES File Explorer pro on all my devices before getting the MediaPad M5, and I have been able to open files on network shares just by tapping them. This has been good for reading comics and magazines, playing music, sideloading apk's etc. But on the M5, any time I try to open a file, I get an error message "failed to copy file". So I have to physically copy files to the M5 and then open them from there. This isn't an issue with apk's but I have to locally store all the comics, mags and music.
Can anyone suggest a fix for this?
Just downloaded a file to from a website, used ES File Explorer Pro to copy it from the downloads folder on my device and paste it into a networked Windows shared folder. Everything went as expected.
Tried to copy the same file back to another folder on my device and I get the 'failed to copy the file' message. Which is annoying.
I can't rename files in a network folder either.
If I click to open a .txt file or .log file in Samsung File Browser (or any file management app)... the Android OS says that there are no apps associated with these files extensions; and, opens Google Play store; which is not useful.
What do I need to do in order to automatically open an app of my choice, such as QuickEdit+ when I click on a .txt or .log file in File management apps such as Samsung File Browser?
On Windows OS, its very easy, I can tell what apps to automatically open when clicking on a file type. I just want to be able to do the same.
Thanks in advance!
i can usually just select the text file and then select open with then select the editor. most times that choice is kept for all text files but at times it might ask which app or if for one time or always.
