[Q] HTC Explorer ROM in Aria?? - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I just saw that HTC launched a new low-end phone - HTC Explorer..
With gingerbread and sense 3.5 running on a 600MHz processor with the same Qualcomm chipset, same ROM and internal memory as Aria *
* Courtesy phonearena
Can i expect that our wonderful mods will release a ROM for Aria based on Explorer, ofcourse once the ROM is avialable

I'm attempting a port but I ran into some problems. According to the build.prop, it says that the processor of the htc explorer armv7. If it is, then we have the same problem as to why we can't get miui on the aria. However, according to gsmarena, the explorer is armv6

Thats great Kevin.. Keep up the good work
But, from where did u get the Explorer ROM?

The HTC Explorer has a Scorpion chipset while the Aria has the older ARM11 chipset.

And the manufacturer has stated that no official 2.3 or further update will be given out... That's the only con with this phone.
Many of you guys have been here so please can u help me with it and see if there is an unofficial build of android 2.3 available ?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

[Q] Cross Platform Compatibility?

Ok Maybe this is just a random theory of mine, or just random stupidity, but please follow along here. Is it possable to use a Rom from a different device, especially if that device has the same Specs as the device you tend to use it on. Like im currently using a Sidekick 4g and it has the same exact specs as the Galaxy S 4g and the Vibrant, also the 3 of those phones are made by the same company Samsung. The only thing different between these devices is the screen and the Sidekick has a keyboard. So theoretically say a Rom from the Galaxy S 4g work on a Sidekick 4g? And a second question is, what would happen if i try, would it brick to the point i can Odin it back? Just for help reason ill post the device specs below for the Sidekick and Galaxy S 4g

I won't say that it isn't possible, but I suspect that there are subtle differences between those devices that aren't revealed in the spec sheets. Using different revisions of hardware components would require different drivers, which in my understanding is why Rom developers have to use specific driver bases for device specific Roms. There may be exclusions on this, because there are some devices that are extremely similar (like the Sensation, Sensation XL, etc), and they may be able to handle they same Rom. Your example of the Galaxy s and the Sidekick 4g, though? I would strongly doubt it.
As for the second question, it would depend on the Rom. In my experience, the majority (maybe even close to all) of the roms out there only overwrite the system. You should be able to Odin back from even the most sideways system screw up. The only problem would be if the Rom messed with other stuff like the radio. Pretty sure there is no easy method to recover from something like that.
Does that make any sense?

It does, and i understand completely but the way im viewing it is like with the HTC G1 and Sapphire. Like how some roms worked on both of those devices.

[Q] Want to build from source - Micromax A85

Hi,
I recently bought Micromax A85(pasted the specs at the end). It has tegra 2 processor. I want to port ICS or atleast GB to it. tried some stock roms of tegra 2 with nvflash, doesnt boot. Want to build from source but i dont have the device's kernel source code, the manufacturer didnt made it open source. I read the guides on android source site and downloaded the source on ubuntu 10.04.
Need your help to get started with the development, need basic guide which will tell how to start on a new device of which we dont have the kernel source.

If im posting in the wrong zone I'm sorry I'd apreciate your time and consideration (Sorry for my bad english btw)
Thank you.
You ca partition your SD card and install Link2SD, then you will be able to install everything on the SD card and you won't run out of memory.
You should install Holo Launcher or TT launcher. Then you will have a faster phone.
Sadly, there are no custom roms.
