The new build of Skype has added video calling support for a number of new devices, including the Photon. It's about time!
Just did a video call between my Evo 3d and photon. Photon seems to have much better ffc video quality, even though I believe it's lower resolution?

Yeah that's why.. the evo 3d has to do more work..
Try the photon's back camera.. the back camera kept freezing on me.. Front camera was good though

Works great front/back and on 3g also.

Outstanding!!!!! I had no clue this was coming for the photon..just did a video call beween my photon and laptop...works great

I had a video chat with the wife and the video quality sucked on both phones..... it was very choppy, we were both on wifi and on the same network. Anyone have similar results?
I could not get my phone to use speakerphone... video chatting sucks if you have to keep using your ear on the headset speaker.
My MoPho works better for Skype and Gtalk video than any other phone I've used.

My 3G calls were choppy and not so hot, but both 4G and WiFi looked a whole lot better for me. I'll test more this weekend.
My MoPho doesn't enter in the skype (as my O2X). Skype doesn't accept user name or password. User name and password is absolutely correct - I was checking it and entered on the computer and on the site repeatedly. Any ideas ?
I am on 3G in Minneapolis and just tried skype video chat with my girlfriend. She was on iPhone 4. The call was very smooth. Love it!
Tried it out with two photons in a sprint store on 4g and the quality was horrible my qik works way better.

I've tried with my co-workers and their DRIOD bionic's. It worked AWESOME! In fact my camera was much clearer than his, even with my bad 3g signal @ work.
Love Skype on my Photon
I downloaded it and did some Skype Calls. Worked great and looked great. I really don't understand the complaints, unless they were in a bad coverage area.
I have had Skype crash (stopped working) several times. I just deleted it and downloaded it.
Not bad for a first draft with video. Did not take them that long to get it out.
I have the photon and the epic and the camera is way better on the photon when using skype,,,,

Is anyone else experiencing problems with Skype video? When I made a call using version 2.5, which I believe is the first version that works with the cams on the Photon, the other person's video is rotated by 90 degrees to landscape mode when I'm viewing it in portrait mode. When I turn the phone to landscape mode, the other person's video rotates again to portrait mode. This means that the other person's video feed is always sideways and rotated 90 degrees from what it should be. The other person I spoke to on video said the same problem happened with them but it was on an EVO.
Am I alone in this or have any of you experienced the same problem?
I also have the same issue and it annoys the crap out of me. I thought i was the only one.

While it doesn't help the problem, it does make me feel a little more at ease to know that it's not just me having this video issue with Skype.

OK,so my wife got my old Evo and I obviously got the new 3D..Well today is the day we are trying to set up the perfect video call apps..We went through all of them and really like the Skype app, works great.
In the process we came across Tango(semi popular). But i noticed when i switched to my rear facing camera that my mini display of my feed to her was in 3D! I then looked at the feed on her phone and it was a side by side video(duh, because she doesnt have a parallax barrier) But my mini screen indeed did not show 2 side by side images. It showed a very tiny 3d feed.
If any of you have 2 Evo 3D's available give it a shot and switch to rear camera and tell me what ya get and how the quality is.
so did your try the same thing with qik or just tango? pretty cool none the less!

Quick only enables 1 camera on the back..Tango enables both..So on qik it works like normal(no 3D) but we decided against Qik because the audio cuts in and out and is pretty much useless unless you want to be a lip reader at times.
Cool!
Haven't tried but will give it a shot!
let me know please..curious to know
yea i noticed when i video chatted to my friend he has a dell streak so it was side by side also . i wonder im try tomorrow with my sister phone ill post my findings ..
if you did a video chat with another 3vo, i wonder if they would see it in 3d.
That's nice but only one person will be able to do 3d at a time bc none of you'se will be able to see the screen if your using the back camera. Unless you want to show off your surroundings in 3d of course

I tried tango with my brother. I get a split screen.. we both have evo 3D. I figured they don't 3d player support. I tried playing my 3d videos with other players and I also get a split screen using that player. So I think they need to add support to the tango player for 3d effects.

I've used a number of other devices, listed below for Skype video calling so these are my benchmarks. I've noted how they performed for me. Does anyone know how the Prime compares to these devices?
iPhone 4 / iPad 2 - Excellent video quality and excellent performance in low light
Galaxy S II - Excellent video quality and good performance in low light
Atrix - Poor video quality and poor performance in low light

all of that is dependent on your data connection speed and the other parties connection speed also. Skype adjustsvthe quality n such based on the best/optimal speeds of both parties.

I want use my bluetooth headphones in doing this on the Prime but with wifi and bluetooth sucking when used together on this device, I know I'm going to get undesirable results.
I've used it to conduct some uh well you know with my chick from my tablet 2 her Dinc II.. works great
However video chat via Google Talk is a FAIL ironically
Can someone help me with this? When I skype, I can only see myself... I can hear the other person and they can see me but there is not a second window for me to see them... What am I doing wrong?
I'm unable to see video at all, any ideas? I think the skype APP either doesn't support ICS yet, or doesn't support the prime.
Anyone else?
I've got both the Prime and the Galaxy S2, the S2 seems to have better quality. The front cam of the Prime is not Prime, it's only 1.3 MP. Plus Skype implementation is not including Tegra 3 optimizations, as the NEOS instructions on them work a bit different I think. In direct comparison between the SGS2 and the Prime, video calls with a MacBook Pro on the same WiFi were better with the SGS2 in terms of lag and stability. Video quality may just have seemed better on the SGS2 thanks to the smaller screen, but the video received on the MBP from the SGS 2 was better. Seems there is too much processing/too little optimization on the Prime.
Ok so does that mean it works or doesnt on your prime with ICS? Because I can't get it to work.
No, it doesn't work reliably.

I have a couple of questions before i decide to get one of these things:
1. I am told there is a WIFI TETHER program that will work on these phones without ROOT. what is this program?
2. Where someone gets one, can you make a video recording with very loud audio (like being at a concert). the ORIG EVO distorts like hell and I wonder if this is resolved on this unit
3. is there a car mount like what the Orig Evo has?
Thanks...
I grabbed an HTC one x and used it at Bamboozle last weekend. It did pretty well with the shows. Check them out on YouTube, therealspanky34 is my name there.

Im guessing the ONE X has the same sound and video quality as the 4G LTE??
The video quality should be identical since they use the same camera. The audio quality should be practically the same as well.
Edit: I'm returning my one x once my evo shows up. I just had to have a different camera for the trip.

hard to tell from those videos but the 1080p looks like with fast movement, it blurs and the audio, while it doesnt appear to sound distorted doesnt sound that great...
It's the best video I've ever gotten from a concert with a phone though. My OG EVO was pretty awful at it.
Also, there's a car dock available from Sprint.
As far as the WiFi teather without root, not sure about that one.

i remember in an old evo thread that if you tether without root, sprint can easily tell, which is why someone said to always root before you tether, at least they have to go looking for it instead of some kind of icon on your account usage. or something like that...
Question is, is there one? Reason....first, the video is excellent but the audio codec encodes horribly and the resulting videos sound track is horrible. That damn compression noise from super low audio bitrates is horrible. And that beeping noise, im almost certain it comes from the sound cancellation settings. You get the same compression and beeping noise when you use the built in voice recorder app in the AAC method.. I downloaded an app from the market labeled "Microphone". Basically it feeds all sound from the mic directly to the speaker or headphones (supposed to use headphones and it works as a sound amplifier with a headset on) . While testing that, I did not hear that horrible compression noise, but...when I turned something on with louder low frequency noises such as my car or the stereo, I would notice that beeping noise. So it appeared that a sound cancellation setting was responsible for the beeping.
So I tried a few other apps. RecForge Lite mainly...after making numerous test recordings and pksybacks, I have observed that there is no compression noise in the recordings generated by RecForge Lite. I have also noticed there is NO beeping noises either. The recordings were very clean and high quality.
So...I have searched for an alternate video recording app in the market..gahhhh, I cant find one. I want to record video without that horrible noise, now that I know its possible.
lol i feel ya. we went through this months ago when it came out. go in development if you're rooted and flash Joes hq camera mod. it helps a bit with the compression but it still isn't perfect.

Shutting down noise cancellation in the build prop does not help. It's HTC software... It's way deep into their system too. ICS camera in the market does an ok job of recording video and audio.

yeah, it works, but i couldn't get ICS camera to do 1080p for me, only 720
BUT sense 3.6 and ICS gets rid of teh clinks and pops in the recording, if anyone else noticed..lol

That ICS cam, is it just for ICS or can it be used in other versions of Android? Rooted necessary?
Ah yes our old nemesis - Rezound noise cancellation...
There's another camera/camcorder app on the market I tried a couple months ago when this came up, lgCamera (I think it works on GB and ICS). It has settings galore, probably not all of which are supported on the Rezound. I see it's been updated since I last tried it. I honestly don't remember how much of an improvement it made with the audio track but it's worth a try:

Only thing is, it seems the video is zoomed in one notch by default and you cant bump it back any so its got a very narrow fov and a bit close to the objects in front. It doesnt size it like that in normal photo mode...hmm..ill have to notify the Dev.

Oh yeah, you can change the video and audio bitrates. Change audio sample rate and other things as well. Tho, you will have to play with the bit rates a bit as some of them cause corrupt video files (noted - if the video freezes but the recording timer still counts, it will be a corrupt vid. Use a different bitrate. Note, dont use too low of audio bitrate with a high sample rate). Im still testing it out. Fix that video zoom glitch and it blows the stock camera out of the water. The only thing the stock cam has against this is the shutter lag time. Stock cam, pic taking is nearly instant, with lgcamera there is a half second lag. Not too bad tho. You dont take action shots with your phone lol .
Edit - NO idea why it quoted killahrey ...... :s

what settings in video did you use that cleared it up without corruption?
My Netflix audio has been out of sync since I first got my G3. My network is fine as Netflix works perfectly on PC, iOS devices, Chrome casts etc. The audio seems about 1 second behind the video. Anyone have a solution or have the same problem?

I typically watch on my chromecast, but the few times I have watched on the phone everything has looked good. If you're running ART try switching back to Dalvik. Other than that, try the typical force stop/restart on the netflix app and then a full on reboot. If it's still laggy then I'm out of ideas.
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I've tried all or them. So far
I'll update if u get it fixed. (and yeah casting is fine for me with my phone because it isn't really my phone doing the playback but rather the actual chromecast)

Maybe its because the image quality is much better than on most other devices that its arriving slower than the audio? That's my best guess. Its not super annoying, the delay is small enough that if you don't pay attention to who is speaking then you cant really tell. But it is noticeable. And if there is a fix that would be awesome.

I have this problem too. Tried downgrading Netflix but no luck. Tried different Roms too and nothing. It's pretty annoying. Funny thing is I don't have these issues with video players or videos streaming from YouTube.
Just found this thread researching this issue. Just got my G3 yesterday day. Everything is still on stock. Anyone notice if other video apps suffer the same problem? I ask because to me it feels like video generally looks a bit like overprocessed motion-interpolated modern tv sets. And if the g3 uses stuff like that it might be related...
