I am rooted and using Cyanogen 7. Either yesterday or today I lost the ability to tether wirelessly to my ipad. I've tried Wifi Tether, Barnacle, and the wireless tether app that comes with CM7. I can find and connect on my ipad but it isn't actually working. Any ideas?

Same here. Looks like VZW finally blocked us. Frickin ridiculous...telling me what to do with my unlimited data plan!! Internets out at home too. :-(
Same here...
Ok, after messing with it for about an hour I got it working. I had wifi connected, then hit the tether button for the 99th time and it worked. So I tried USB tethering and that worked too...for 5 minutes.
It's working again finally after going back and forth between wifi and usb, but it's not very fast. Who knows at this point...
I got it to work by flashing to another ROM. Tethering worked without an issue. I tried to flashback to CM7 but it seemed like my backup was corrupted, it wouldn't install. Im not sure if the update has caused these problems. I know just enough about ROMS and developement stuff to get me into trouble.
Before you flash a stock Rom there is an app called tetherguard.apk make sure that app is no where to be found before flashing the Rom then any WiFi tether program will work.

I have a TB and a Wifi XOOM, and I have been using the mobile hotspot app to share my 3g/4g connection to the XOOM for a few days now with no problems. Yesterday I installed the Gingeritis ROM and have been experiencing some weird issues...
The Wifi connection remains stable but after about 30-60 minutes I need to restart my phone and re open the hotspot app to get a data connection again.
The reason i'm posting this thread is for two reasons: one is to find if anyone has the same issues using Gingeritis that I have experienced, the other is to find out if anyone has other methods of tethering that they recommend.
I used to use the Wireless Tether app on my X but have not tried it on the TB since the mobile hotspot app has been free so far; will that work?
Any recommendations are welcome, especially soon because i'll be on a train for 3 hours later and if I don't have to keep rebooting my phone that would be nice.
Thanks

I use the wireless tether app on my rooted TB. Works great, never had a problem. Another app you can try is Barnacle, you can get it from the Market. Both have worked great, I used to us Barnacle more because it let you control the amount of power the radio put out and thus save on battery lifr. However, I can't seem to find that option any longer. Try Wireless Tether, I've used it with multiple PC and iPads with no problems!
I use wireless tether to my wifi xoom almost daily.

Wireless tether for root but I think its not on market anymore just Google it and you'll find the ewebsite for direct download of the apk.
Tried out that "Open Garden" app. It ain't bad.

It's still on the market, but it's hidden by a Verizon block. Can get it via the market if you kick into airplane mode and search over wifi.
Another happy wireless tether for root user
Tether to my ipad..
Friends internet went out , currently teathered to his xbox 360 and playing on live right now. btw mobile hotspot free till like july 7th.
+1 for Wireless Tether. Browsing is solid, but I wouldn't exactly game on it..

You rock, I use this app and just got it off the web but I tried the Airplane mode trick you mentioned so I could get it via market for auto updates! Thanks man.
***EDIT*** (Turns out that even though its in "My Apps" under the market on my TBolt, I cant update it unless I turn off the radio. If you click on the app after its installed with you radio on it "cant find" the app. Verizon really doesn't want you to have that app I guess. Whatever though, you can download it from market over wifi.)***
Ohh and I (obviously) use Wireless Tether.
Works awesome. I used on last Monday on the beach in Hilton Head with 4G so the wife could log into work for a end of year teacher meeting on her laptop.

Ditto. I keep Barnacle and Wi Tether both so I can switch from time to time.
Both have always worked well.
I use the Sprint Tether app on the EVO 3D port, the T-Mobile Tether app on the Sensation port, the inbuilt Verizon app on stock (free until July) or the built-in FroYo tether on AOSP ROMs. There's no reason to download another app when these are pre-installed.
I play COD off of my WiFi tether app on PS3 and have no issues. It seems to run faster on Gingerites than BAMF.

Wireless tether works perfectly for me, need root though
Barnacle for me
I am currently running SHIFTS3NS3 V1.3X and can not keep the wireless tether connected. After about 5 minutes it will reset to 0.00 and disconnect. I have this issue on every rom I have tried so far. The issue is the same for each version of wifi tether that I have tried aswell. Each time I load a rom I wipe cache/data 3 times, system, and dev cache. I always keep the stock kernel installed so I don;t think that would be the issue. I had a rooted og droid for 1 1/2 years and didn't have issue with wireless tethering. Could someone please assist or point me in the right direction to get this working because I am at a lose at this point.
Have u tried the wireless tether fix in the candystore?

Disable wake lock in the settings of wireless tether.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I had just installed the rom around noon today and poked around in the candystore, but some how I missed that...lol I applied the fix and verified the wake lock setting, I will test it out in the morning. Thanks for the quick replies.
Unfortunately it still times out after 10 minutes. It will stream perfectly and then no error or anything, just tether resets to 0.00 and drops the connection. I'd love to have this working, so any more ideas would be great. Btw this is a very nice ROM, haven't had one issue and runs silky smooth!

Hello, all. I am wondering if anybody can help me resolve a issue with wifi tethering .. I can't for the life of me, get it to work.. I'm using HTC Droid Eris rooted (unknown source) on cricket network, I see no errors while I start up and it says sharing connection, but I can't see it on any devices! I've tried, barnicale, Google's code site, and just about every other tether app I could find! Is this an issue with cricket itself, cm7, or maybe kernel!? Please help! Thanks in advance

Did you find a solution? 2.0.7 doesn't work for me either. the wireless tether hasn't worked for me since i flashed 7.1 CyanogenMod.
I am using CM7 and Barnacle works for me but I have to press both start and associate. I also have troubles with wifi tether.
I've been using cm7 for months and barnacle and the wireless tether 2.0.7 both work normally for me. You try wiping everything reflashing then installing apps one at a time to see if that fixes your problem?
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
I stopped using 2.0.7 a long time ago. It was killing my battery even while it was plugged in. Currently I am using the 3.x beta series of Wireless Tether (I am currently using beta 6) with KhosFroyo v39 (am preparing to move away from this soon) via Verizon Wireless.
Check to make sure you can access data using a web browser. Also check to make sure you can connect to a wifi network. If you can't find wifi networks with the phone, your wifi antenna may be damaged.
When using tethering, make sure wi-fi is disabled first (tethering will start it automatically).
Then start up tethering after defining the Eris in the profile settings. Your devices shouldn't have any problems seeing it. I've had up to 3 laptops + an Xbox 360 connected all at once.
whats rom-version you have?
I am using cm7 and barnacle. I can't use any security and had to change the custom wifi adhoc setting to hero/Eris.
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
If you are trying to tether another device to your Eris, you need to make sure that the 2nd device can see "Adhoc" networks. You may need a different wpa_supplicant file on the 2nd device.
I'm running GSBv4.2 -CM7.1-11152011 with the Wireless Tether v2.0.2. I've used Barnacle on other ROMs also.
here i got this with a rom and it's worked on every rom i've ever flashed since i got it. copy both of em, use the the app with the green logo

Only tether suggestion that worked for me. Major props. Cm7 rom
Im using the Mac rom mr8 sr1 and I figured out the problem.. it was working the whole time, I jus was trying tether it to another android and a PSP.. and neither one of those support ad-hoc. So I flashed a wifi supplicant that lets the android connect to ad-hoc! I still havnt found a way to push the tether on an Eris into an infrastructure tether yet... so if anybody's seen that work, let me know.. I use both Samsung galaxy s and the eris.. it would be nice to have the Eris push out a normal AP, and not ad-hoc

my tethering seems very unreliable. im using the latest wifi tether apk but thats irelevant as i have used many versions but the problems persist. allow me to explain, im in no way new to android nor tethering. i have followed all the steps to get 4g tethering speeds ( toggle data off, disable 4g re enable and so on) the thing is i cant get a stable connection from my laptop or my xoom for more than 20 mins. the connection either goes idle or the phone just restarts or i simply get disconnected from it. im just wondering whether it' s just me or whether this a common problem among photon users. many thanks and great forum.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I believe the 4G on your phone becomes idle. Just a guess.
I have heard this happens to other Photon users as well. Not sure what the cause of it is or the fix. I'm going to try some things out when I get time and see what mine does. I've never tried to tether for that long of time before. Will post back if I find out anything new.
**I can only test 3G. No 4G in my area.
Are you rooted or using a rom?

Ok rooted by DX2 very quickly.
Now, when I go to run any of the Wireless Teether apps, none of my mobile devices see it. I believe this because I can only get these apps to run in Ad-hoc mode. I am on v2.3.4.
Do I need to flash a custom rom in order to make this work, or is there a fix somewhere?
Alot of stuff that I am finding when I search is from 2.3.1 or 2.2.
Any point in the right direction is appreciated.
Thanks,
-Sf-
I believe you have to do the TBH radio hack to use infrastructure instead of ad-hoc. If you do this then you can use the mobile hotspot app which runs in infrastructure.

those are the only two methods I'm aware of, and I keep fairly close tabs on that one
There's also this. I don't know for sure if it works on our phones or not as I've had no need to use it. I'm running CM7 and it comes with wireless tethering. It looks just like the Verizon wireless hotspot app though. Perhaps that hack is how it's done on CM7. Can't hurt to try it
Thinking about it again, I'll flash back to a rom that has VZW's app on it and see if it works. I'll report back.
EDIT:
Guess you can scratch this idea. I tried it on Liberty and on a stock rom. Doesn't work.
I've got CM7 and my friends moto phone was able to connect. Just used the built in tether in wireless settings in CM7
The other apps only do ad-hoc with out phone so you can connect your laptop but not anotyer phone I believe.

Well, if nothing else you could flash CM7. It comes with tethering. It's infrastructure, not ad-hoc. It appears to be the same app as VZW's wireless hotspot. Works great for me.
