US T-Mobile Galaxy S 2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been doing a lot of research on what phone I should get next since I recently dropped my HD2 and just about killed it. I am stuck between the HTC Sensation and the Galaxy S 2. My main concern is the fact that the S 2 for T-Mobile is so different in hardware from the other models, will there be support for it, ei. radios, ROMs, KERNELS. As of now, the Sensation looks like the phone to go with because there is already support for it. But, looking at the specs for the S 2, if it all works then I could wait on support. Any ideas?

I am also interested in SGSII Tmobile US, would also like these questions answered

The T-Mobile variant was released not to long ago so I would give the developers some time. Telus in Canada is releasing the same model so this would probably aid in the development. I don't think that it will ever be as extensive as the international model. Here is the development section for the T-mobile http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1332 I would see what comes up in the next couple of days before making a decision.

T-Mobile and AT&T: New Forum?

I figured someone with more knowledge on this could set the record straight. The T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S II went on sale today and mine should arrive tomorrow. MY GUESS is that ROMs, modems, and kernels would not be interchangeable between the two devices. So should a new forum be created for the T-Mobile variant? Anyone have some insight?
EDIT: Question answered. Yes... we will need a new forum for the T-Mobile variant.

As to a new forum - no one in this forum would be able to do it, we're just users.
And NOTHING about the T-Mobile GS2 will be interchangeable with the AT&T version. The T-Mobile variant doesn't even deserve a GS2 designation - other than having a sAMOLED screen it's closer in hardware architecture to most HTC devices than any Samsung.

uh...they're almost identical. the tmo version has a sexier backplate and a bigger screen. and snapdragon ftw.
but yeah, i just researched and found all of this out. which in turn answered my question. i originally thought they would be completely identical with the exception of operating frequencies. guess not.

Lol! Are you serious? Or joking? I can't read the e-sarcasm here.
If your not joking then let me explain further. The snapdragon is a completely different soc meaning that development will be completely different for it than the international or att sgs2. Essentially NOTHING is the same.... In the development world... Real world the only similarity is the manufacturer.... And it has an samoled screen... But even that's not the same. Lol

This isn't the "ask the mods" forum, this is the "AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II" forum.

[Q] Upgrade advice, Samsung Galaxy S II X vs. HTC Amaze

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm buying a new phone this week, but unfortunately I'm locked in to phones that I can get via Telus. I really wanted the Samsung Galaxy S II X, but after browsing this forum a bit it looks like because it's on a different chipset it won't work with any of the ROMs for the default model. Is that right? Is there a development community for that specific phone out there?
The only real alternative that I see is the HTC Amaze, which at least seems to have a developer community (albeit small). It looks like a pretty comparable phone as well. Unless there is a phone I'm missing here (and no, I'm not willing to shell out the money for a Galaxy Nexus on Bell, as much as I'd love to have one).
Edit: My apologies, I finally found the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II forum, which is the same phone (or close enough that there are Telus ROMs there). Answered my own question, although I wish Samsung wouldn't be so bloody confusing with their model names.
Different phone, different internals and therefore different ROMs. Roms for SGS2 wont work for the S2X. I dont know about the SGS2X, but the one from Rogers is called the i727 Skyrocket, and i do know there is a dedicated section on XDA for that phone. I sold my SGS2 and got the i727 Skyrocket LTE, now im selling the Skyrocket to get my SGS2 back =) Despite the slower clock speed it feels faster than the i727. But then again that might be because my S2 was rooted and running a custom rom vs the fully stock i727. Like you said it has a different chipset, and i think that makes a difference.

[Q] Using an Unlocked Galaxy S III here and in Korea?

Hey XDA,
I rarely post on here, because I am usually pretty good and finding everything I need to know without posting. But I cannot find an answer to this question.
My wife and I are moving to South Korea as ESL teachers in 3 months. But both of our current Verizon Android phones are on their last leg.
Obviously, we do not want to sign another 2 year agreement with them. So I was looking into getting us unlocked Galaxy S III's that we can use for the next few months here and then activate when we get over there.
Korea uses HSPA+ and LTE (SK Telecom).
This is what I am looking at: Factory Unlocked GSIII
By all accounts this should work, correct? If anyone knows, I would be super grateful.
Thanks all the same. And if I missed a thread talking about this, please just point that out to me.

From the info I have seen floating around the web, it seems South Korea will get it's own variant of the Galaxy S3. It'll be similar to one coming to the states. It'll have 2GB RAM, LTE, although it will be quad-core like the international model (US model is dual-core). You can Google "Galaxy S3 in South Korea" and you can find this info. I'm not sure if this will work over there but I suggest you get the Korean S3 when it is released over there. It will have the best of the US version and the International version.

Both Korea and Japan use CDMA technology similar to Verizon and Sprint - the model you're currently looking at appears to use GSM technology, so it probably won't have very good data coverage. (I'm not sure if a CDMA version is available yet - readers: correct me if I'm wrong here.)
If you're planning to be in Korea for a while, I would definitely recommend waiting and purchasing the local version of the SIII when it's released and getting a cheap phone in the interim.
Depending on what your commute is like, you may also want to consider the Note. When you're spending 2-3 hours/day on the train, the bigger screen comes in handy, and with a pair of mic headphones, you won't look like an idiot holding it up to your face to take a call.
Best of luck with your new assignment - Korea is a terrific place to live, and ESL jobs there should be a great way to pad your savings.
Thank you both for the replies. I guess it would be best just to hold off until we are there and settled in. I have Android tablets and I like the Note, but already a little old for my tastes.
I am just super bummed out I have to lose my Unlimited plan from Verizon after we move... oh well...

[Q] S3 vs. S3 LTE Rom Developement

Hey guys I'm thinking on buying a S3 LTE but I'm curious about whether there are enough developers interested in it...
Roms are popping up every second for the normal S3, but what about the LTE version?
Did anyone watch over the developement for the LTE model?
Thanks in advance!

As per this exact same question posted before .
There are fewer roms for LTE .
Developers choose what to build its as simple as that .Judged by the small number of roms the developers who build roms for free as a hobby are not interested in the LTE model .
Donate a LTE phone to a dev and they might build a rom .
jje
It the reason I didn't buy an LTE, although better specs for the same price at the time. Same problem for the S4, although this may improve the longer Samsung takes to release the S5.
Unless you really like stock ROMs it's always best to buy a really popular model with millions of users, hence hundreds of developers.
Go check the LTE development forum.

[Q] Flashing Asian Radio to ATT HOX Plus

All,
i would like to buy new HOX + since my HTC incredible s is stolen..i love HTC & Sense, and HOX + comes in my budget..but, in ebay i can get only ATT or Telus version HOX..but i live in india, worried whether the reception is very low since my friend is also using S3 ATT version n signal strength is weak..
Just want to know whether Flashing a radio of internation version to ATT version would brick the device or works well?
Any idea from experts? based on this factor only i will place my order in ebay.
Thanks all guys Really a great community this is.
PS: i know there is no KK official update for this device. Just gone through the forum and can see many active development going on..Only intention of buying this device is cos of this great dev community

From what I've heard, no. The international and ATT is different and plus the phone would probably not allow you to flash the radio of another device, unless you are s-off. I don't think it was ever done but it's probably not worth the brick. BTW there is not much development going on for the HOX+ atm. Hopefully things will kick up soon. The Samsung s3 is different than the HOX+ , maybe it will be better maybe worst. I get better signal than my dad's Note 3.
