OK, I have a Samsung SCH-i500 SHOWCASE, (yes I know its not a fascinate/mesmerize). My provider sent a text message to me telling me about Gingerbread update so I installed it. Now my LED flash doesnt seem to work correctly for instance, when I take a pic with flash on auto it never flashes. If i turn the flash to "ON" then it flashes only when taking the pic, not during the "autofocus" period. Also NONE of the flashlight apps that I had installed can turn on my LED. One more thing, the flash will NOT turn on in video camera mode wither. Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix? Below is the Gingerbread update I used (Generic CDMA SCH-I500)
https://www.wirelesspioneer.com/pdfs/i500SWUpgrade.pdf
are you rooted?
if not, rooting SHOULD solve your problem.
other devices that lost led functionality on the gingebread update got it back by rooting.
No, not rooted as I cant find a simple way to root it (simpleoneclick isnt working yet). I was rooted with the 2.2.1 Froyo Build before update. Do you know of a simple method for rooting a Samsung SCH-I500 Showcase?
This was the FIRST result in Google for 'how to root showcase'
I don't mind helping you but please at least try to help yourself.
Z4Root in the Android Market.
When I search Z4ROOT in Market I do not get an app to download, I do not think Z4Root will Root Gingerbread, just Froyo. Z4ROOT is also referred to as "Gingerbreak" and it soent work for my phone yet.
there is no functioning root method for 2.3.x gb on the showcase... your only option is to install a custom rom thats prerooted. Check out rootzwiki:

You've updated to a new ROM which, until now, is unrootable. However, you can flash the previous ROM, re-root it and then flash zdzihu's pre-rooted ROM along with JiT.
It's all here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883890.
I recently updated my phone to 2.2 Froyo with Kies Mini on my PC. After updating I attempted to re-root with Z4ROOT and after a few random vibrations it closed out the the app... So I have two questions...
1) Can you still root a v2.2 Samsung Vibrant (U.S.) with Z4ROOT?
2) Also I have Clockworkmod on my phone, will that still work properly without root on my phone?
Most probably z4root won't work.
Use super one click.
cwm needs root.
Thanks. Also after updating, my phone seems to be lagging more then usual. Is this a result of updating with clockworkmod on the phone?
Means you flashed cwm after update? And now your phone seems to lag!
I don't know, I updated to froyo and also have cwm but I don't get any lag.
I don't think any custom recovery must cause a phone to lag.
You must try auto task killers, there are many in market, maybe they help.
just odin back to stock fixes almost everything.

No, Z4root does not work, I have tried it.
But yes, if you can get into cwm, you do not need root to flash anything with it. I have flashed files without root through cwm, so that is how I know.
EDIT: Ok ive attempted again to have RSD read my phone, but this time from fastboot(i did not read this anywhere so i didnt know) but it still says its failing, even tho its connected. Any Help?
In constant searching, I have yet to really find an answer..If you know where I can go PLEASE just post the link and dont be a jerk. Phone was rooted with GingerBreak I used GladEnable to enable sideloading and the tethering APN. However I unrooted using the same method in attempts to avoid and troubles. It was nearly fully charged(90s). No other mods.
Afterwards:
-Ive tried to OTA update, and that failed
-Planned on trying to flash through RSD Lite 5.3.1, but it doesnt read my phone. My computer does just fine, but RSD doesnt display my phones info. I had the USB set to "None".
All I realy want to do is just root it after stock GB is on it. I dont really care/mind the BL unlocked or things like that. Id preferably install it through the computer because my WIFI at home is abysmal to say the least, so if anyone has the stock file, point me there and tell how best to install it. Please and thanks.
I did something wrong, i understand this, i have looked all over for the answer (YouTube, Google, Here, ECT.) and i haven't come up with anything, so here it goes. Shortly after buying my Droid X2 I used Gingerbreak 1.2 (on Android 2.2 Froyo) and rooted it without any problems. Later Verizon told me there was an update so i clicked it and it installed Android 2.3.3. Superuser is still present in my app launcher but i cant do things like use root explorer or file expert to change file permissions to R/W. I used Gingerbreak again to see if i could re install SU but it wont give me the option to uninstall it and if i try to install it never finishes. I am really trying to install the Eclipse ROM but i need to get over this issue first. I know I did something wrong, i just don't know what. Please help.

sbf back to froyo then root it then flash the prerooted gingerbread image then install system recovery and use that to flash eclipse
Ive tried this, and ive tried to fallow the Tutorial for this (Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193818). Problem is when i factory reset and try to re-root with Gignerbreak it never roots. It just stays on the "Rooting device, this may take a few minutes" window. But i will try again.
You can't use ginger break on 2.3.3, do a google search for "DROID 3 one click root", it was made for the DROID 3 but will work on the x2 running 2.3.3, and you don't have to sbf for this method.
Thanks for the help, after 3 days of research it only took about 30 minutes for you guys to help and get it working! one last question, what is everyone's recommended ROM for the X2?
Eclipse is a good one, with lots of themes. Also check the x2 development thread, there is a 2.3.4 rom ported from the atrix, and there should be more on the way.
I am running eclipse .5 and it is smooth. No issues at all.

Hey everyone, I am new to the rooting world however I have only experienced good things. I decided to root my thunderbolt using TB Autoroot+htc sync last night(had the original stock froyo, was going to installed cyanogen mod 7) and was successful. Unfortunately, I then installed the leaked 2.3.4 RUU GB which rerooted my TB before I installed the cm7(wanted to try the RUU out, bad idea lol). I was wondering if all or any of these are possible (dont care about losing data, just don't want to brick, ie avoiding command lines if possible):
1. root the phone while maintaining the leaked 2.3.4 RUU, just as was done for FROYO? Original reason for rooting was to remove the bloatware apps, but not having custom roms would be ok at this point if that is this is the only option. I know there is the revolution method to root, however will that work on the leaked 2.3.4 RUU?
2. root the tb with my current 2.3.4 RUU and install the BAMF 2.3.4/sense 3.0 GB build, or some other custom 2.3.4 rom?
A tutorial or walk through would be great! I know there are some out there, however I am looking for one specifically for those that have the leaked 2.3.4 RUU on the thunderbolt.
Also, can someone explain the difference in features of the GB builds that have been out for some time(customs) vs the RUU by verizon? I'm not talking about the physical aspects or the apps that come with, but more in terms of installing/switching between them. I know I need to root in order to install the custom roms, but assuming i can root the 2.3.4 RUU, will I be able to install any other 2.3.4 rom such as BAMF or cyanogen without problems? I have heard that you just arent allowed to go backwards, ie back to Froyo one you update to GB, but I should be able to install any 2.3.4 GB ROM once rooted via the bootloader(power+volume down) True?
Any help would be great! Thanks!
Yes you can. Just use revolutionary to root the new GB build. Here is a video tutorial for you.
Well, here comes your first less than pleasant reply...
Pretty much everything you wanted to know is posted in my thread stickied in the Q&A section. That's also where this post is going to end up. Please check my thread on basic noob questions, search before posting, and post in the correct forum.

If you are rooted, just use a program like root explorer to search for a file called otacerts.zip and rename it to otacerts.bak
When you open root explorer, make sure to put it into write mode. look at the top left side of the program and press on the mount r/w option
Cant find rom

Root Error
I am trying to Root my Thunderbolt but keep getting the following error:
Failed to get Root!
I am using revolutionary.
I have installed, made sure their was a connection, and then removed HTC Sync.
I downloaded and installed Android USB Drivers.
I selected USB Debugging
Thunderbolt Info:
HBOOT 1.04.000
Android 2.3.4
ROM Ver 2.11.605.9
What am I missing and where can I get it? Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance...
I've never rooted but I believe you need to downgrade. Revolutionary does not work with the latest OTA. There are several posts around that explain how to downgrade to the previous OTA (link below). Then you should be able to use the revolutionary method.
