Ok so I've had the Galaxy s2 for a month now and everything's been just peachy up until 3 days ago when i noticed the wifi doesn't work as it should.
The Problem: my wifi connects and shows a strong signal but there is no data coming through. all my other devices on the same wifi network are A-OK its just my phone that gives me the finger. When i switch wifi off and kill all background tasks then reconnect it works again for like a minute if i'm lucky. 3g works fine.
I'm running the gingerbread 2.3.3 XWKE7 that i bought the phone with. is this a known problem? if so how do i fix it without going through my useless service provider (Vodacom - another way of saying "Pig S#!t!")
Please help. Thanks.
Check for firmware update first as that is very old KE7.
jje
It happened to me once but when I restarted, things became alright.
Thanks
I tried turning it off and on again, took the battery out too and still no joy.
I reckon firmware is the way to go, theres no updates on kies yet though so i'm thinking of flashing to lite'ning ROM. And its definately not hardware cos i've been wifi tethering from the phone for a while now with no issues. I'll try a factory reset first though and post what happens.
Ok so here's my findings: I Flashed to Litening ROM v6, the phone is a lot quicker but, wifi is still stuffed for some reason. I can wifi tether and it works perfectly but I still can't make use of a wifi network, it still connects but doesn't get any through-put. and as before 3G is working fine.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

I've had two Galaxy S II phones now, and I've had the same problem with both devices. The phone's wifi is great -- when it works. Although I noticed that the death grip lowers the wifi signal bar, I can still browse the internet and download apps just fine.
The problem is that, at times, the phone will show wifi connectivity and yet, I can't browse the internet or access the App Store. I'll have to shut off the wifi multiple times and even this doesn't work 100% of the time. Shutting off the phone and turning it back on works 100% of the time.
Since this has happened to two phones, I'm beginning to question whether I have an issue with the wireless router because I have not come across this as a prevalent issue. At the same time, my laptop and a family member's iphone doesn't have the same issue.
Anyone else having this problem? Or have suggestion for fixing the problem?
Thanks
Here is me showing the problem on video:
My roommate and I both have the Galaxy SII and he constantly has problems connecting to our wifi. The only difference in our phones is his is rooted and mine is not. I plan on rooting my one of these days but would like to fix the other issues I am having first.
Mine isn't rooted, but it still has the connectivity problem.
EDIT:
I may have found the the solution. Probably unique to my situation, but what I did was disable WPS on my router. It's a medialink router and I thought I had disabled it (per instruction) but it was on. Perhaps that was the issue. So far, no problem.
EDIT:
Nope, the wifi has dropped again. By dropped, I don't mean it drops in the middle of browsing. It seems to drop after I've stopped using the phone for a while. I've already checked to see that the phone is to never turn off the wifi when the display is off/sleep.
Arghhh
same exact problem.
wifi on moto surfboard sbg6580
did the static ip fix continue to work?
Any phone is the same.

Don't have any issue with wi-fi , mine is rooted on stock rom
i have no issues with wifi on my sgs2, i have wifi on 24/7, and on wifi proabably 50% of the time. it connects and disconnects when supposed to, picks up on cell data and drops when its supposed to..
fwiw, my GF has an iphone 4, she had problems connecting to the HOME wifi, but no where else, i updated the firmware on the router, same problem, i swapped out the router for a spare a friend had, and setup a second access point on the same network, just called it the same SSID but put a "2" after it.
her connectivity problems went away, immediatly she noticed a difference and has never complained of a drop since...
try different encryption methods, if you're using wep, try wpa, try a few different things.
also try a firmware update, you might lose your settings during a firmware update, but there is usually a backup/restore option you can use. backup your settings before flash, then restore after. if you have access, for at least testing purposes, hook up another router and use it to connect to and see if the same problems persist.
No problems at all connecting to a WHR-G54S running Tomato.
The Moto Surfboards are known to be flaky.
I had the same problem. after getting another one I found out that if I didn't download so many apps at one time the problem mostly stopped and after running a couple weeks, I haven't had the problem with connection since. I'm not sure it will help, but I did a factory data reset and reinstalled the apps one our two at a time (it's frustrating, I know).

Hi,
I'm new to the forum so apologise in advance if this is a stupid question.
I recently bought a Sim Free S3. I haven't rooted it as i'm quite happy with the stock os for now. Everything had been working very smoothly on it. But since getting the over the air update for it my data signal randomly drops out or freezes. It seems to do it over WiFi too. It does this even though it shows a wifi connection or with the H+ visible. I've also noticed it cycle through H+ to 3G and back again.
Sometimes the signal works again on it's own and other times i have to switch the phone off and on aain.
I find it happens on tweakdeck the most but has also happened whilst browsing the net.
Do you think this could be linked to the update or could this just be a coincidence and there's an underlying hardware fault.
Let the new update run for a little bit...let it settle in
It might just be the spot u in and I doubt its the phone
Might be uodate but how long u been on the update?

Think the update came through on Tuesday.
Will give it a few more days to settle and see how it goes.
Thanks.
Still having an issue with this.
My internet worked all weekend then today started to fail on me again today.
The phone shows a HSPA connection but will not download any data.
I know it's not the network as my wife is on the same network and is having no issues.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Same problem
I am having the same problem here. I just bought SGS3 about 3 days ago and I started noticing data drop out yesterday. I wish someone could help me. I was hoping the problem to be solved by the time we get firmware update.
BTW, I am also having problem using usb tethering or wifi hotspot. After using usb tethering for about 10 minutes, it stops connecting although the phone still has data connection.
Is it hardware or software problem???
Thanks!!!
having the same issue after power saving goes on i lose h+ until god knows when
Hello guys.
So i had a lot of issues getting ICS on my rezound cause i had frozen and uninstalled a few apps .. Go figure .
So i worked with Ashton who was very patient and helped me redo my phone from scratch. I went back to GB and did a OTA update to ICS and unlocked my bootloader again and rooted my phone.
I am having strange issue that persist even with multiple wipes.
When on Wifi my internet basically stops working at some point. be it 2 seconds or 5 minutes in while using wifi. I basically will have no internet until i turn off my Wifi and then turn it back on.... Then it'll last a few seconds again or a few minutes and stop working.
Not only that... But when i use wifi tether i am able to see my device and connect but as soon as a device connects to my phone.... my 4g drops out... it comes back a few seconds later and lasts for 1-2 seconds then drops out.
I mean complete data loss. No 3g , no 4g.
So i am tired of this and basically called in to verizon and asked for them to replace my phone. They currently have no stock and will contact me when they do.
Can anyone think of anything to help me or should i just got for a new phone?
BTW. Im thinking of giving either the replacement phone from samsung or my phone if the problem is resolved to samsung for their upgrade program ( they will give me $200) and buying a GS3 for retail.
Any ideas ;P ?
Thanks!
PS!
I have the Zlaza 3400 extended battery with their back cover. I dont know if this could play any downfall in my phone? i wouldnt think so because 4g is fine up until i tether.
thanks!

Since you're posting at 1:30 in the morning, you're likely affected by this issue.

I have two ideas:
1. For the wifi, it's most likely your router. I had been having problems with my router connecting to my phone and xbox. So I got a new one and it's fine.
2. For the tethering thing, people have been reporting data drops. So make sure you have the latest wifi tether with the right settings and if that doesn't work try one of the versions in the thread in development.
Hey!
So i im not sure if it works before or after the blackout time HTC set but i will keep an eye on it.
also.. it isnt my router because it is a new router and was working just find on GB. The problem came with ICS.'
Also.. the wifi tether part seems to be every version of the app. Even foxfi. I got foxfi to work for like 10 seconds and the data cut out . I have a replacement coming in on Monday so that i can test to see if it does the same thing.
If it does i might cave and get an S3 to tide me over until the 1080p HTC phone is out.
this really sucks...
Has anyone else experienced wifi issues with their 920 where it's connected to the wifi, but there is no internet connection? It has been working fine since I got it back in November, then yesterday I noticed that when I was trying to open skype it just said connecting... forever. I tried IE and got nowhere, same with the people hub updating.
I eventually decided to reset the phone, and of course it then got stuck on the spinning cogs, so had to go through the whole mess of flashing the phone with the original EE firmware which did luckily bring it back to life. Then when it was running again, still the same wifi problem!!!
I eventually managed to get internet through the wifi again (for now) by switching the security from WPA2/PSK to Mixed WPA & WPA2, and then I switched it back to WPA2/PSK and it's kept on working now. But why did this happen in the first place as all my other devices (wife's iphone 4 and 5, surface tablet, latpop) were still getting internet through the connection no problem?

This sometimes happen to the L920, a reboot will fix the problem....L920 have still a lot of bug... so if you do not want to kill you phone, stay away from BAYGON
On what channel is your Wifi operating? I have seen People Report Troubles when their Access Point was set to operate on channel 12 or 13. Those are not available in all countries so that might be the reason.
Other than that I have no idea what the issue might be.
Reboots didn't help.
After a lot more investigation, firmware upgrades, tweaking of pretty much every WiFi setting under the sun, it looks like the issue was being caused by the two netgear WiFi bridges I've got attached to my sky boxes - every so often they randomly seem to interrupt WiFi connections from other devices - my wife's iPhone started having issues and when I necked the ip details, it had the netgear bridge ip as its gateway. Resetting both bridges seems to have solved the problems so will have to be my first port of call for any future issues!
I have an HTC Thunderbolt. I bought it used. It was rooted and running Infected ROM NuSense. I didn't have a data plan and only used it with wifi. It worked fine for several months, but, after awhile the wifi would no longer work. It would try to connect and I would get an error. Every once in awhile the wifi would come on and it would say the signal was too weak to connect. I tried a variety of radios and updated to the latest verson of the InfectedRomNusense (v6) and radio. It still didn't work, however I switched to a different battery and battery cover and the wifi at one point did start to work briefly. I sprayed contact cleaner on the contacts with no success and tried a brand new OEM battery cover and bent the contacts on the phone outward. Again it didn't work.
I did a factory restore back to a rooted stock ROM. The wifi continues to not work. The wifi cycles on and off. The wifi log is: wifi_state_enabling, wifi_state_enabled, wifi_state_disabling, wifi_state_disabled, wifi_state_enabling, wifi_state_enabled, wifi_state_disabling, wifi_state_disabled... I also noticed that the mobile network settings are greyed out.
I've looked in this and a lot of other forums and see that there have been issues with wifi on this phone and have tried numerous suggestions. So far I haven't found one that works.
Does anyone have any suggestons?
