I am currently in Cananda. The phone is not rooted.
My phone is not making long distance calls through contacts. I have to manually dial a 1 and then the # for it to work.
On my old phone I had the phone settings (append prefix) to dial a 1 before every # automatically. On this phone I have
Settings>Call Settings>Plus Code Dialing>International Dialing (set to 1) and also there is a check box for domestic dialing. I have tried this checked and unchecked and it's not putting the 1 in of my contact #.
Any Ideas why it is not dialing the 1 prefix automatically?
Also I have tried Google Voice with the 1 and it doesn't work at all.
I figured I would try to be slick and use Dolphin HD in desktop mode and do it through gmail. It said I need to install the video and voice plug in, which isn't made for the Dolphin browser. Any ideas for a work around so I can get Google Voice to work or do I have to root?
i messed with a telus sim card yesterday. that didnt work for me. hopefully, i can mess with a bell sim soon.
I believe voice is only available in the US. Try pitting in the country code. Also try doing it from an actual browser on a pc to make sure it works for your region. If as i stayed above google voice is not available in canada and either ip shows from that region that could be your issue.
One simple way to find your ip is run the speed test app i think.

google voice works on my pc. no pro problems.
for the phone there is no country code. its considered long distance. it requres a 1. i have it set to 1 but its not putting it in.
the telus sim did work, just not the data because it was for a blackberry and they have black berry data. i was able to get voice to work. sim is unlocked.

Posting this to see if anyone else has this, and if any one knows how to make it work.
I use Google Voice for my international calls, but after the upgrade the dialer takes over, Google voice can not be used to "only make international calls"
i have to use "ask for every call" which is not the best solution.

I'm having the exact same problem.
I even made several international phone calls, thinking that maybe Google Voice was running in the background... now I'll get hit with the charges for international calls from AT&T :s
Any solution to this problem?
I'm using the X10i 2.1 Global firmware on a X10a (AT&T)

unfortunately the suggested process does not work
I found a way to make calls by google voice. I went to the browser, went to the google voice website, and from there, I placed the call. Then I received the phone call from my google number, and it connected me to the number I was calling.
It's more troublesome than just using the app, but it is a workaround.
Any other ideas or solutions?

When you do that, aren't you still using the GSM network and your sim card to have the call connected?
I am having identical problems (2.1 Nordic) and trying to use google voice over WiFi to avoid using network minutes but Sony's dialer takes over... hopefully sony or GV will update and fix this real soon... very frustrating

I use Google Voice for international calls... so I'm still using my GSM minutes, but just as a local call, not with international rates.
Have same problem. Cost me one expensive international phone call.
Generic FW, Build 2.0.A.0504 - X10i/ATT USA
GV screen comes up, then native dialer takes over. Have used workaround posted above, but naturally would just like to be able to use it as intended.
Just a heads up to anyone who has updated to 2.1.
I have the Rogers 2.1 and using AT&T as the carrier. GV does not work for ANY of my outgoing phone calls even when I specify to use GV only.
If the issue is SE's dialer, is there a way to revert back to the generic dialer?

I'm also having this issue, only after recently upgrading my X10 to the generic 2.1 software. I wonder if anyone has found a solution yet?
I've had this problem since day 1, since I'm from Canada and use my GV to call my american / long distance friends. I have had to use the website workaround since day one, and it really bugs me. When I was working from the iPhone app, it worked properly (call me, then call the number I'm trying to call). Since switching to my X10a, I can't have it just call me, it uses the dialer directly.
So, I use up about 100-200k of my data plan to make the call. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying.
This maybe due to my "upgrading" SIM cards at T-mo earlier today, but my new Amaze is not allowing me to set up Google Voice or utilize the Visual Voicemail preinstalled features and keeps directing me to call 611. Google Voice sends back an error stating "Failed to retrieve and save current forwarding number settings." When I click on Voicemail Settings it looks bad. The page doesnt load up (ie appears greyed out, with a jumble of numbers at the top where my phone # should be. Anyone else having similar issues? My first guess is either an issue with Sense or T-Mo.

No I dont see the app. At least like there was in myTouch4G, also no references to it in my settings menu.
my google voice works. it wasnt able to set up the forwarding numbers, but i always check my vm via the app anyway so. It downloaded all my vm and a test call was sent to my google mailbox

If you try to open VM Settings does it look normal, or is it all greyed out and the number all jumbled?
mines not greyed out. double check and run the setup a few times, maybe itll work through. mine said some error, but i dont have anything greyed out actually. i check mine with the google voice app itself, so i dont see it as an immediate issue (for me at least)
I went from the LG G2x to this device and I had GVoice on that. The voice app failed to set call forwarding options for me, too, when I first installed it on the Amaze4G but becuase they are subscriber specific with the carrier, and not the device it doesn't matter.
If you go through google voice web site and go through the settings you can get the call forwarding codes and dial it from the device and it will accomplish the same thing and work fine.
I was on the phone with TMO this morning about a network issue happening with my phone that's unrelated to voicemail. In investigating potential service issues they mentioned that Seattle and the surrounding area has a new visual voicemail system issue. It could be that. I'm not sure if that's specific to my location or if they rolled out something service wide.
Im struggling to wrap my head around this google voice setup.
1. I want to know how to get around the fact that it switches numbers when it calls numbers, so therefore you cant put it in your favorites in Verizon list....
2. I heard of an app forgot the name so that it automatically calls your google voice number that you program your pin in with it...
3. So is it a way to trick your phone into thinking its on wifi and make calls that way?
4. Is it really worth the trouble?
Check out GVoice, it will let you make google voice calls over wifi and 4g, without using minutes. I'm assuming that is what you are trying to do?
I think you can get to the voice settings on a computer, and change what number is displayed when you call over your google voice number.
I'm not sure what you mean by #2. You can set up google voice to forward calls to as many other phones as you want, if that is what you are asking. You don't need a separate app for that, again it's in the settings on the computer.
I have it set up so when people call my google voice number, my work BB and my personal phone ring. When I'm worried about my minutes, I use Gvoice to make calls over 3g, 4g, or wifi using my voice number.
It's pretty easy to set up this way.

I have tmobile branded amaze 4g. Wanted to know if it is possible to use wifi direct calling over my local wifi with another amaze 4g without the tmobile sim? As I am not on the tmobile network.
Wifi calling is only for tmobile users.

Nope. You'd need to use grooveip (uses your google voice account) or similar apps.

So I just got my phone a week ago and played with stock before going straight to CM10. I went back to stock because of some issues I was having.
In stock, I set up Google Voice on the phone as well as the Internet Call Settings in the dialer with SipGate as my provider. I have SipGate set to receive calls only and Google Voice for all outgoing calls.
My expectation was that I could go to the dialer and dial any # through Google Voice using my wifi at home or whereever, just not using any cellular services.
If I go to the Google Voice site and call from there, it does ring my phone (to bridge that connection) since I have SipGate set up to receive the forwarded call. I just can't call out from the phone.
From what I'm gathering for your reply is that even though I have Google Voice set to make calls through the phone, you're saying it won't work?? What is it about Groove IP that allows you to make calls with the dialer that Google Voice cannnot even though it's settings has that option?
It boggles the mind...
Oh and I went back to CM10 just to see if it was an issue with stock. Stock would start to dial, but exit immediately. I think I saw a little notice about service being out of range or something (again, no SIM). I actually did get a free TMo SIM that I used on my old Nokia XpressMusic 5800, but left it unactivated. A SIM was required to use some features.
In CM10, it doesn't even start to dial, but just says "Mobile network not available" even though I set Google Voice to make the outgoing call.
So I have google voice set up for my voicemail. I noticed that this has not been working. I had to reset up my phone and then it stopped working again. It looks like when they phone is set to forward my calls to my watch, it disables google voice forwarding and my att voicemail program then pics up. I was wondering if any one knows how I can get this working again.
I went and removed my phone from google voice and then reactivated it but once my phone starts to forward me calls it no longer works.
Just wanted to see what other google voice users are doing.
They both use the same entry for your phone line: conditional forwarding. So, you can only have one at any time. When you setup auto-forwarding, it will change the conditional forwarding to Gear S number and when it no longer need forwarding, it resets which will be back to your network default that is your voice mail number.
I set up my gear s # as an additional phone in Google voice and had t-mobile turn off voice mail for it, that way I don't need to worry about calls forwarding.
I don't use my Google voice number as my main number so I like the forwarding set up. I wonder if I can have my voicemail number changed on my phone to my Google voice number.

Go to the google voice web site & look in settings under that number. It should say "activate voicemail" and it'll give you a code to dial on the phone. It's something like *444*YOURNUMBER*# or something like that. But the gear forwarding will always disable GV when it's enabled.

The only other thing i can think of is using the short code to set your watch to use google voicemail so your phone would forward to the watch & the watch would forward to GV if you missed it on the watch. It's just a thought but I'm waiting to use gear forwarding for that reason so lemme know if you find a setup that works.
One option is to turn off all forwarding in the watch and phone, then set up both the watch and phone normally in Google Voice.
All calls will be sent to both the phone's number and the watch's number. For whatever reason, the phone tends to ring at least 3 or 4 seconds before the watch rings, so there's no problem with multiple ringing devices. If neither the phone or watch are answered, the call will go to Google Voice voicemail.
Also, within Google Voice Settings / Phone, click "Activate Google voicemail on this phone" and dial the number string indicated. You'll have to do this twice, once through the phone, and again through the watch. An important note is that the phone needs to be disconnected from the watch when you dial the code through the watch.
The easiest method is just to put the phone into airplane mode before dialing the number from the watch.
