Saw the Hulu thread that I guess tricks the browser into thinking it's a full website as opposed to mobile. Just curious what streaming sites you guys use, obviously Netflix isn't working either but hopefully we'll eventually get it. We pay for the 4G, may as well get our moneys worth.
This should've been posted in the General.. My bad.
Hi all,
I am thinking about buying the Galaxy2. However I do like HTC Sense and the way it treats the contacts. I have set up accounts for
Facebook
Skype
LinkedIn
XING
...
and all of them are linked in the contacts which is really great.
I have viewed dozens of videos on the SG2 but I havent't found one that shows the contact menu. Can anyone tell me what it looks like or even better direct me to a video of it?
Thanks a lot
Nobody?
Any one who has it already and can tell me how good the contact management is on the new galaxy?

Thanks a lot beards. Pretty good review there.
No problem... I appreciate when you are thinking of purchasing a new phone it may be difficult to check it's features if you don't have access to it.
Reviews, word of mouth and comments here are probably the only means of information you can obtain.
Ok I have a question... Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong area. Here is the pitch: I have been looking forward to this phone for a long time (as most of you) I have been interested for a few years in developing an on the go platform for mobile entertainment. What I mean is just something I can use in my car to listen to music or watch movies. I know there are many things that exist that allow me to do this but I'm looking to develop a more all in one truly mobile solution and the Note might be the best option.
Without boring everyone with too much details- I'm hoping the Note comes with NFC for starters but does anyone know- will the usb host adapter allow the Note to charge and possibly use an external hard drive at the same time?
I'm in the R&D stages now for a car dock with software that will allow Note to just slide in and go similar to the newer mobile infotainment systems that are starting to show up in cars now but this will be truly mobile.

Omgosh what a great idea! Hooking up an externel hard drive may work, because you can plug flash drives into tablets and they work just fine. Hope your plan works, because if iit does ill be installing it on my stang
You posted this in an unrelated thread, so I moved it to its own thread. Your plan sounds great, I hope you can make it happen, I'd like a nice car dock for my future Note
Thanks for your interest guys! I will post some more info as the design begins testing.
As of now I'm using my Captivate for a front end... it kinda works but there's a lot of manual interaction which I'm hoping with the Note I can move away from. If this works out I can move to actually producing a full mobile infotainment solution.
I'm curious though... This project started out with just a personal want to make my long drives a little more comfortable. It has now turned in to something that I actually depend on and almost need. Do you guys think there is an actual need for something like this? Maybe this could be a start for a whole new "something" platform.

Personal need and an idea of how to fulfill it is how many great products come around. I really wish I had a decent dock for my Captivate (that's what I've got, too), but none exist - and I have looked. Go for it. See where it takes you. Might make you some nice coin, and make others happy in the process!

You heard it here first... Should have some renderings soon-ish. I'm a software designer that works mostly in MS technologies so this is a new avenue but with all the support on XDA it shouldn't be too hard.
I would be very interested in this as well.
Good luck on the R&D

Based on how the Galaxy Tab works the answer is no, you can't use the USB drive and charge at the same time. You will need to build a custom cable.

I hope to have a Note to test with soon... (pre-ordered) The cable isn't too much of a problem just one more thing to put on the list. I'm toying around with designs that will able to have upgrades/plugins via a usb hub.

I could use something like that! I am a road warrior covering two states for my employer and have a lot of windshield time.
When it is time to beta test I would like to offer my services.

On the infuse hdmi (output and charge) works at the same time and needs it. Maybe if you need a few "lines" frim it to get it working ill supply that . It may need a custom kernel though...

Thanks! I'm hoping that I won't have to mess with the kernel too much... Most of what I need is already open in the OS (I hope) and I will most likely have the hardware completed before the software pieces. As long as my wife doesn't kill me first for spending too much time in the shop.
i think thats a great idea. check out how i am doing it now, using a 8.9 tab lte:

Hopefully your contribution could be applied here? may I suggest you to take a look at the mp3car.com forums? there's an android section there, very interesting.

What's most needed i feel are the development of physical buttons to control the tablet/phone while driving. I envision using something like a bt version of devices like carpc joycon ex (basically a small device that turns your steering wheel buttons into a usb keyboard), or using modified bt headset buttons.

Thanks for the link I'm sure I will be hitting up those forums as well...
Nice setup! That is exactly what I'm looking for. The physical buttons are something that also crossed my mind. I will check out the joycon. I think with the USB host it will be a lot easier now. I do frequent mp3car.com they have helped with a couple carpc's I have built for friends and my own XBMC in my WRX I still use to play games while sitting in my car. This is the first time I'm traveling down the android path and I think it's going to be a better experience all around.
Thanks.
Now I think the note would be way more appropriate for my other car - the 8.9 is more fitting to a truck really.
Keep us posted!

I'm gonna try using a Seagate goflex satellite hard drive as a media center for my note in my car. It's 500gb and produces a Wi-Fi signal that the phone hooks onto, you then use the Seagate app to access all the hard drives music and movies. I plan to hardwire the hard drive into my cars power along with a micro charger to plug into the Samsung note car dock. I'll let everyone know how the hard drive works out. It could be an option for your project too, although the hard drive is rather pricy.

Yeah, I have considered that, but I've seen less than stellar reviews on Amazon and I balked. Price is not a concern, as long as it works. The reviews stated that the interface was very poor and buggy. No playlists, no thumbnails, no folder support, IIRC.
Seagate, like Samsung, is not known for writing sleak software. So the fact that I must depend on their updates (will it work with ICS? Will it work in Landscape mode? etc.) is a concern. They should release their APIs at least, or source code.
I'd rather something like a NAS DLNA server. With DLNA, I can choose a bunch of compatible apps, I believe.
Also, about the Seagate's wifi connection, is is ad-hoc? Would it prevent the tablet from accessing the Internet? I suspect not, if you're using the note, but if you're using a tablet tethered to the phone...then this wouldn't work.
I have seen a couple lack luster reviews on the satellite but my friend is offering it to me for $75 because he never uses it anymore so I figured I would give it a shot. If it doesn't do what I need it to in the car I will either just use it for my tablet in home or sell it as Im sure I could recoup at least $75 from a $200 hard drive
Great, please report back your findings.

In this set-up, is the music coming out of the car's speakers or the Note?
I have purchased a HICES Android Car/DVD unit for my Camaro. Being on that forum, which I won't mention, has helped a lot with some of the fitment issues we (maybe about a half dozen of us have purchased from word of thread). The company actually sells many different unit for different vehicles. We have been in direct contact with the representative of the company and he has quickly (within 2 months) corrected the fitment issues so this unit should now literally be plug and play.
Earlier versions were 2.3.4 and he has now upgraded newer units to 4.0.3 and upgraded us who purchased prior to the upgrade. Customer service wise he has been great. Also, since I had to download the upgrade, I know have those files saved to a MicroSD.
I have searched these forums for HICES, etc. however all I seem to pull up are the other Chinese branded units. There is one issue with this unit which I was hoping someone on here might actually have a suggestion. Is it possible that in the hardware for a "tablet" there is no microphone? These units only lack a way to communicate through BT. In doing the upgrade to 4.0.3 it has lost its ability to communicate through BT using the dongle provided. In the Camaro the bluetooth mechanism is located in the stock headunit, which obviously causes a problem when you remove it to replace it with this.
Because of the communication with the company rep our best bet may be to stick with letting them get this figured out, but I was hoping someone on here may have one and just not posted about it. I would really like to see what this is capable of.
Sorry I can't post outside links, but searching Google for HICES Android will pull up the website.
When I am allowed, I will post the website to the forum where there are more pictures and video of the unit, it just comes down to none of us being knowledgeable with android.
Thanks for any support
Brian
Somebody here suggested that the HICES Deckless head unit is based on the AN-21u. There's a hardware hacking thread here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2610926)
Some people have added an external hardware microphone, but nobody has checked AFAIK that they board is the same. Maybe you'd be willing to remove your unit and open it up. The thread I linked above shows what you'd need to look for.
Hi Everyone
I'm new to the forum so please go easy on me...
I have a few devices such as the one i will describe in this post that i would like to install a new ROM etc on to make them suit my needs and work the way i want them to work. I really have no idea where to start as i cant seem to find any info on these particular systems though its possible I am just asking the wrong questions. So if someone can help me to find what I need or point me in the right direction would be great!
I purchased about 10 different samples of ANDROID TV BOX's from China a few years back with the intention of selling them in my shop but none of them were very crash-hot so I canned the idea. A few of them actually had potential but annoyingly the hardware died very quickly. The software was quite well refined on those particular devices though. Anyway, I have finally got around to opening a few of them up that have decent hardware that are still working and checked out there internals. They have now become a learning project for me on the side. I have found a few little errors in the manufacturing process and fixed them up. Things like sloppy soldering etc. A huge blob of solder dropped onto the board and shorting out half of it surely didn't help its cause Now that's out of the way, I have taken a few photos of the hardware but it seems that i am unable to add them to my first post so it may have to be added at a later stage. The board has ANDROID TV-V1.02 2011.06.11 printed on it. It has a AMLogic AML8726-M A-E49968 QDWN008 processor. It has SD card input, 3 x full size USB, 1 x USB OTG, AV OUT, HDMI OUT, Ethernet Port and a REALTEK RTL8188CTV B8G25H1 G847L WIFI chip i assume. I will try to upload the images but if you need anymore info i can let you know straight away. The hardware probably isn't the greatest but it should serve me well for this project as it is bin material otherwise.
So, can anyone help me to find an appropriate kernal, rom, flashing utility and so on to run on this unit for the purpose of a TV BOX with also being able to play some games like clash of clans and be able to use google play services as you would on a smart phone? I don't need fancy features really. A Network media player/DLNA player would be awesome to play music and movies from my NAS. CHROME for browsing and the ability to download and install a few games like clash of clans and use my Google+ account to backup and even possibly purchase gems.
Or feel free to tell me if this is simply a waste of time hehe
Thanks for taking the time to read
Cheers
