I wonder if I'm doing something wrong as it does not seem to to any difference.
I'm Running Tasks ROM.
I using Root explorer copy over vending.apk to /system/app/ and when prompted allow it to overwrite and replace the existing one. (I do have root) But when I open my Market it look exactly the same. I have tryed a full reset and have also tryed to using root explorer install the APK but the installation fails? Any Ideas?

rename old vending.apk to vending.bak and copy new vending.apk.
Reboot and enjoy.
Thanks,
Is it possible to get a normal apk file as I don't have a rooted phone. I am running v 3.1.5 on Galaxy SII, is there any difference. BR

Finally works in portrait mode! Thank you little baby Jesus!
The 3.1.6 Market that's floating around is suspicious, it's not signed the same way as all regular Markets. I would stay away for now.
According Androidpolice tweet.
Any eta when they will push the market live so we don't have to toy around with it?

note: just to clarify i currently have a working version but it is ugly, not fullscreen and isnt currently recognised by the launcher as the market app

as now x10 has a root so is it possible o hav app2sd and custom bootscreens for x10 mini? original bootscreens are in folder system, etc, semc, bootslideshow.
...this should be easy i think. To change the boot animation, just replace the png files with edited ones. I'll try to make some other animation during the weekend.
ya tht would be grt if u get it successfully done please post a tutorial cause i m still doubltfull how to do it.
ok, so I made a quick trial, I just removed the saturation from the current animation and it works, now I have it only BW without colours.
The way how I made it is that I copied the png files from metioned folder to my PC, modified it and put it back to the device, after reboot it works. So I will try to create some new animation during the weekend (maybe some proposal draft tonight).
So this is just a confirmation that it works.
I assume that it is required to keep number of used files, that it is not possible to change it without changing some code which calls all the pics. But I think 26 frames is enough to replace the current one with some funny animation
cool! will try it also and wating for some awsm animations anything about app2sd?

Any chance you could explain in noob talk how to install your startup screen, I don't know what program or commands to use
Edit: I tried using andexplorer to copy and paste the PNG files but I get a cannot paste error, dunno why cost phone is rooted
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
-first you need your device to be rooted
-download zip posted here
-extract to your SD card
-use Root Explorer to copy all the *png files from SD card to this folder:
system/etc/semc/bootslideshow
-of course you need to activate the permission to overwrite the files in the device, you can do it simply in Root Explorer, there is a button for it in top right corner (do it before you copy files to the device, otherwise it will not copy the files there)
-when done, just reboot your device and new animation should be there

Root exploreer is a paid app. You need a rooted phone, and an app called market access to see it.

Sorted sorted and sorted, thank you all

You need to use the android SDK, more precise the adb. Try searching the web for a method to push and pull files from your phone and setting up the SDK on your OS.
Nice bootscreen, thanks darebak
can be done entirely on phone, using root explorer, I know cos I am running the bootscreen from this thread, I prefer to not use adb personally if I can avoid it, just prefer to be lazy and use apps

I tried leaked S Voice APK and just like Samsung confirmed, it is only a test app and has many bugs. You can actually hear the difference since leaked test voice sound garbled. Latest one below is one that cam with S3 Rom leak and more up-to-date.
HOW DO YOU INSTALL?
1. Download ZIP on link below(Extract on your desktop). If you download to phone directly, you still need to extract to a normal folder.
2. Contained within is 2 files.(voicetalk.apk & libsvoxtts.so)
3. Place voicetalk.apk in system/app with "Root Explorer" or like(Use Mount R/W and set permissions by holding voicetalk.apk to see sub-menu). Make sure to make permissions as "rw-r--r--".
4. Now place libsvoxtts.so on /system/lib.
5. Reboot *****NO NEED TO CHANGE build.prop such as with others.
6. ENJOY, then ask funny questions to it.
__* IF YOU HEAR NO FEEDBACK, try turning media volume up by opening phone dialer or on youtube video, or a music song and such.

***NOTE: I did limited testing, if you try on other roms and does not work, just delete both files.

Need some help here guys, I accidentally froze the default clock app with Titanium. (The one with stopwatch, timer, alarm, timezones etc.)
Then when I realized that the alarms weren't ringing, I tried to restore it from Titanium Backup Pro, but it was hanging at the restore screen and now only the alarm symbol shows up in the status bar but there's no app.

No I am on stock ROM LF2 with CF-Root.
I have flashed a lot of mods though, and don't want to lose them all in the wipe and reinstall process.
Is there a way to solve this without reflash?
Thanks!

this is from one of the issues on an S2...it should work on the S3
Here is how to solve the problem:
1. Find /data/system/packages.xml with Root Explorer or an equivalent
2. Make a backup of packages.xml right away in the same folder in case we mess anything up any need to restore it later
3. Copy packages.xml onto the root of your internal or external storage
4. Plug your device into your computer and copy packages.xml from the root of your storage over to your computer
5. Open the packages.xml on your computer with your editor of choice - I suggest Notepad++
6. Search for the string {enabled="2"} (without the { }). Every line ending in this represents a frozen app. The lines should look something like this:
for ex:
<package name="com.sec.android.widgetapp.socialhub" codePath="/system/app/SocialHubWidget.apk" nativeLibraryPath="/data/data/com.sec.android.widgetapp.socialhub/lib" flags="1" ft="11b7e237e00" it="11b7e237e00" ut="11b7e237e00" version="1" sharedUserId="10001" enabled="2">
7. Now for every app you wish to unfreeze, replace {enabled="2"} with {enabled="1"} (again, without the {})
7. Save packages.xml, move it back onto your phone's storage, and use Root Explorer or an equivalent to replace your original packages.xml at /data/system/packages.xml with your new one
8. Reboot
Plzzz Click the Thank Button if this helped!!!

Yes buddy I'm from Mumbai.
Ok, so here's what I did:
I reflashed official LF2 ROM without doing any wipes since I didn't want to lose my apps and settings.
Now the clock app has appeared in my app drawer, and I'm able to open it. However all the other apps that I had frozen are all back. No problem, I'll freeze them again later.
Original problem is solved, alarm icon is functioning fine. Though I will now have to do all the mods again. :-\
Thanks for all your help Sohail.

You may need to make sure that the permissions are set right. ES will change them. Just long press the files, go to properties, then change the permissions.
So we copy each of the files in the /system directory of the smartactions folders into their respective folders in the phones /system?
for instance there is a folder for the app, all of those files go into the /system/app folder of our phones?? etc...

Update worked for me... No fc so far
there is another app in the play store that basically operates the same way. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=AutomateIt.mainPackage&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIkF1dG9tYXRlSXQubWFpblBhY2thZ2UiXQ.. its called automateit. Good job with the port.
Just as the title suggests this removes the e911 location icon from the status bar and doesn't leave any gaps. Wasn't gonna make a separate thread but it appears that quite a few people are asking questions regarding it in the other thread. For those curious how I did it all I did was grab the LocationController.smali file from the AT&T S4 and put it in are SystemUI and compiled.

If you are on an odex build then you need to rename the SystemUI.odex to SystemUI.odex.back before flashing.
For those that want the white battery and data indicators just flash this (works for odex and deodexed). http://goo.gl/HHQHt
Any shot of an ODEX version?

You could try something like this to odex it yourself http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879128
Since you only changed the smali, we should only need the .odex portion once that is done, correct?
I would love an odexed version of this as well. I did try to do it myself but failed.
Just flash a deodexed ROM. I won't mess with odex.

This version works fine on odexed roms. Your entire System doesn't have to be one way or the other, as long as you first remove the original odex file. I installed it this way and it works fine.
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv SystemUI.apk SystemUI.apk.backup
mv SystemUI.odex SystemUI.odex.backup
exit
adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app
adb reboot

I figured it would work, I can update the zip to delete the .odex when I get a minute so that way you don't have to do it manually.
One problem with this ... If you try to push in regular mode it says access restricted. If you try to push in Shell SU it says device not found. Thoughts?
dumb question, just rooted fully stock rom is deodexed right?

Stock ROM (as in, from the factory) is odexed. So, this mod won't work without following the instructions a couple posts back.
you could use a file manager that has root like ES to delete the .odex file too.

I just tried it on a rooted stock machine. All I had to do was delete SystemUI.odex like the OP says and - VOILA!!!
Thank You for making this mod - that icon was driving me nuts!

How do I remove this file? I'm having a bit of trouble. I found the file with ES File Explorer, but I can't rename or delete. I also don't see any setting to change read/write properties. Any guide for a noob like me?

Go into ES settings and enable root (dont use the app so dont remember how exactly). You might run into issues though as I think ES has some conflicts with the stock kernel.
How do I exactly rename the file? Where is it located?

You have to use a file explorer with root access, then go to /system/app, find SystemUI.odex and rename it to SystemUI.odex.back
Worked like a charm Thanks!

Do I need a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP) to apply this mod? Or do I just need to be rooted and follow the additional odex instruction in the OP?
Thanks!
Could we manually replace the file using Root Explorer then reboot? Won't that do the same thing?
