Pixelly facebook pictures - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love my gs2 but i have a really big gripe about the pictures from facebook. Viewing the same picture on my missus sensation it seems of much lower quality. Is there a setting i need to select to download high res pics? Both pics were downloaded using wifi so its not my carrier shrinking them down.

Let me try to answer you,
The Sensation has higher resolution (qHD) than the SGS2 (WVGA).
therefore, Facebook (or any other) pics will be more Fine on the Sensation, because they are not been maximized to fit the screens.
So, its normal.

Gallery issue.

I just want to know why I cant save picture that I take with my vibrant as my wallpaper IN FULL SIZE! I have lots of pictures with me and my family, my girlfriend, plays I have been in etc. I want be able to have them ad my background without having to crop half of it and make them blurry.

Its because the stock launcher has multiple screens and a certain resolution that the pics don't match. Some wallpapers will crop full size as long as its the same resolution which I don't think are camera has.

3D Gallery compresses?

I'm on cm7 using the 3D gallery and whenever I set a wallpaper it seems to "compress" it (I don't know the exact term). Even 2560x1600 pictures look blurry and I can still see the individual pixels. Are there any good gallery alternates?

i use Quickpic fron the market. something about cyan roms makes this happen. quickpic is also just a good replacement gallery. i feel 3d gallery is annoying and buggy.

Pictures shared in landscape by default

Every time I share a picture via twitter, g+, Facebook, or mms, or even upload it to a message board, the orientation defaults to landscape regardless if its taken in portrait mode. This is pretty annoying. It also happens when I try to edit my avatar using the xda app.
How can I fix this so that a picture is uploaded in the orientation that the picture is taken in?

I've noticed this too (at&t Samsung Note i717). My workaround is to crop it to just about full size. Its a pain in the neck though.

I can tell somewhat. Do you have that picture as a file you can post so that I can check it out on my phone?

Well to me it looks looks the graduating grays on the toggles is intentional by the software. You can clearly see the colors move with the sliding toggle. I like it.

That's not the black crush. That's only there because the stock rom has ****ty graphics that didnt scale properly. See attached screenshot that does not have the gruduations.

+1 definitely not black crush. Most of the android apps aren't designed with 1280x800 resolution in mind so this happens. It's just like zooming in on a really low resolution image on your computer, it looks like crap. Same thing can be seen in the XDA app splash screen.
yup most graphics are made for the 800x480 screens
Wow i do see the difference. Good thing its not a hardware issue.

Camera Settings?

My camera really seems to be worse than the S3 so I am starting to think I don't have the settings tweaked. Should I be at the 13 Megapixel setting or 9? Also the pictures are good with flash but the ones without them are worse than my S3 in similar lighting by far!
13mp is a 4:3 aspect ratio, while 9mp is 16:9. I personally prefer 4:3 for photos so I use 13mp.

I agree. I have been disappointed in the camera when compared to my S3. The camera feels slower and I have more blurry pics than I did with my S3.

Try the anti-shake setting. That helped

Yeah, the anti-shake setting does seem to help, but taking pictures in a dim environment (inside my house) without the flash is difficult. Also, for indoor pictures, I've noticed that the actual picture taken looks darker than what is seen on the screen at the time of taking the picture.

It doesn't take a really good picture low light. I usually have flash on auto. and also set my phone to dynamic.

So, your phone doesn't show a darker picture in the Gallery than what's actually on the screen when the shutter closes? And my screen is set to Standard...does that matter?

Yeah, auto-flash and anti-shake seems to be the way to go for dim environments.

Thanks for this fellas. I've not had a chance to use mine inside yet and this is great information to have. Although I do mostly take outside pictures I'm sure the time will come.

With it set on dynamic it makes it brighter on the phone overall. Of course the phone isn't going to be able to take really great low-light pictures but it makes your screen brighter with more vibrant colors.
