I've got a few ideas for apps i'd love to have, but don't know if they exist, or which ones are best, so hopefully someone can help me out
1. Whenever Titanium Backup does a scheduled backup, it closes all apps and HTC sense in order to do a backup. Before doing this, i got about 120-140 free RAM, but after Titanium Backup does a backup, i'm up to 300-350 free RAM. I guess it frees alot of RAM when it closes all the programs.
My question is, is there any app that does this too? Without doing a backup? Maybe a simply 1-click widget that closes them all (including HTC sense) and then opens up the needed apps again?
2.1. I used to use normal HTC sense as my launcher, but switched to ADWLauncher EX. One of the two things i'm missing is a proper 1x1 widget to disable/enable 3g network. There are lots of apps that can make a shortcut to the settings, but i don't want this. I want one similar to the one in HTC Sense.
Any ideas?
2.2. There was a "Sync" 1x1 widget in HTC Sense, which forced it to sync all the items i had chosen whenever i clicked the widget, is there another 1x1 widget for this in the market?
3. In ADWLauncher EX, i can hide the status bar with a simple swipe, but is there any way to hide the app drawer shortcut (which is at the bottom of my screen, where the HTC sense navigation bar used to be), along with all my icons?
So the screen would be completely clean of everything, and all you could see is the wallpaper.
4. When i had my old HTC Desire, i used to have an app that would allow me to assign 1 wallpaper to each of my 7 homescreens, but i can't for the sake of me remember the name of the app, can anyone help me out?

No one can help me? :S
There is a lot off apps for killing running processes. Autokiller, advanced task killer and many more. If you want more ram, change rom .. Im running cm7 and have aprox 330mb free at all time.

Randomly killing apps/processes is not advisable. Android was built to multi-task. Use Watch Dog Lite if you want too see what uses your RAM and CPU. Free RAM is wasted RAM, to some extent. And if you kill everything, you risk missing important things like texts, widget updates, etc.

I sometimes find that my Hero struggles for memory and the OS has to close background apps such as the launcher, which is kind of annoying. This leads me to ask two questions:
1) Do third party launchers like LauncherPro generally use less memory than the default HTC Sense launcher? Or does it make things worse, since it seems some parts of HTC Sense are always running in the background anyway?
2) Do vanilla custom ROMS that don't have HTC Sense generally run with more free memory for third party apps, because they aren't running HTC Sense and other HTC-related stuff?
Thanks in advance guys!
The default setup for the Hero shouldn't close your Launcher. That is odd. Are you running any task killers?
Personally I prefer Vanilla builds with Launcher Pro, but i've never bothered testing memory usage as it isn't an issue AFAIK. I never have apps close that I immediately need.
When I was using the regular sense launcher, I did find it got closed reasonably often. It happened mostly after web browsing, I guess because web browsers are very memory-hungry apps. I kind of figured the system should try not to close that app, but when I've checked with task managers, it always seems that the launcher process tends to be at priority 400 which is pretty low - certainly a candidate to be killed at any moment. Since switching to Launcher Pro things seem to have improved, but I am not sure why. I don't use any task killer, as I read that you should leave this stuff up to Android to manage.
GO Launcher EX is the extra version of GO Launcher, one of the most popular stock home replacement app in android market, provides beautiful themes, fast flip speed and tons of useful functions. Don't know how many of you use it. Its very fast has an inbuilt task killer also!!
Check out the website!!

I've been using GO Launcher for a while now, it's by far the best out there. Only strange thing i noticed is that with GO Launcher EX you need to install a separate module in order to have missed call and message notifications down in the dock.
Can you organize apps into different categories?

No but u can put them into folders.
Awsme launcher thanx
I've tried other launchers and this is the only one moving smoothly on my Optimus. In addition to that it has icon personalization and you can make those annoying never-used apps disappear in your app menu.
it has enough customization options and the battery use is quite low. A must-have!
very good ...... n.n
Go Launcher EX in my opinion has to be the best one out there.
I am one of the people who actually enjoyed Touchwiz at first....well, until my app drawer reached over 10 pages (That's 160 apps and I even had the bloatware hidden with TiBackup)
Anyways. I have just this completely crazy and awesome thing going with Go Launcher on my phone. The best thing is, I've gone from 10 pages all the way down to 4. This launcher has so much customization and features, and on top of it all, it runs extremely fast.
I have posted several screens of what I have done on my phone using Go Launcher as well as just some screens so people can see it and understand it more.
The 1st is a preview of the ui swiping side to side, the 2nd is all my home screens, the 3rd is what the new app drawer looks like (notice the folders INSIDE the app drawer), the 4th is just all the options I have on my main home screen. The 5th and 6th Images are showing how you can switch the dock back and forth. The 7th is showing the modded facebook app available here on the XDA and my personal mod of the Picture Dial widget. And the last is the Screen Shortcut Screen (when you pinch the screen at home).
I hope you all enjoy.
NOTE: The "theme" I have is purely from the customization features I had available. I did not mod it at all (with the exception of one widget) nor did I actually create a theme for the Launcher like those which are available for ADW.
You can find almost all of what you see via internet. I had to photoshop a few icons (you'll notice them on the screen shots showing my different dockbars as those images are more recent).
gunna have to give this one a try adw launcher just isnt cuttin it for me any more
Using 2.3.2 Mur4ik ROM what I find is that Home Manager shows both Go Launcher EX and stock launcher are running at the same time, stock can take up to 40mb RAM, and second that for Go Launcher EX, so I've changed to stock because I want more mem and when I AutoKill stock then Go launcher Running tab says there's more ram.
How can I customize stock 2.3 launcher?
I need to change number of screens to 3 from 5, I don't need more.
Is there any way to create folders in menu instead in "desktop" only?
Screen transistions are not my priority, but Go Launcher is much user friendly anyway, and allows quick access to most commonly used options by me.
Yeah just hold one app and drag ontop of another to put them both in a folder

How much memory did you say Go Launcher used up? when I'm in it's app drawer tab and kill everything I can only get a max of about 150 out of a possible 303Mb
I will say that you can clear up some memory if you "Freeze" your default launcher using Titanium Backup.
Oh and one of the coolest things about Go Launcher is that since I made a Titanium Backup of it before changing Roms, when I got my phone back up and running again, all I had to do was go into Go Launcher's Preferences, scroll down and hit restore configuration (I had made a back up, can't forget that) and all my custom icons were restored. I had to add my widgets back manually, but that wasnt too big of a deal (I didn't make a titanium backup of that, but I think you can).
...hold on, actually Titanium Backup just restored all my apps, the Go Launcher's configuration is completely separate from titanium backup. GO Launcher creates it's own folder on your SD card for it's backups. It's pretty cool.
Soooo..... has anyone happened to have talked to the developer or anything to find out about making custom themes? I haven't had any experience making themes for other launchers, but I'd like to give a shot at making one for Go Launcher and I haven't seen anything on how to make one unfortunately.
nice but crashes too frequently
for my it is the best launcher for now, and in the oficial page says that it going to have customs themes
Is there any way to decrease the number of screens? I find it incredibly irritating to see have 5 screens, I only need and use 2.
I found GO Launcher to work best with stock 2.1. There are buch of themes for it, but only several of them are good for me.

I've been using Zeam 2.8.8 as my desktop launcher and think it's great for the Nook Touch, simple, fast. I am having a problem when trying to remove large widgets, i.e 4x2, 2x3. I long press the widget and drag it to the trash can, I'm not that stupid, but when it's in the right spot the widget and trash can are supposed to both turn red. Problem is on a grayscale like Nook there is no visiable change in color. Is there an app I can use to remove the widget? I've been looking for an app the past three days but not lucky. I also am using ES File manager which allow sys access. Is the widget listed somewhere in the system files so I can delete it?
Please don't suggest I update to a new OS, it's not possible. The Nook Touch runs on Android 2.1. While people are cooking custom ROMS nothing's out yet.
Maybe you should just try a different launcher
I like GO-Launcher, much better than my original Sense 3.0 for example..

The widget related data is specific to launcher so you can either try new popular launchers like GO launcher, launcher pro, ADW launcher which are prettu stable and user friendly.
Or else if you want to stick to your older launcher then in that case you can clear data for launcher application. (Goto setting - application - manage application and search for your launcher application. Open it and clear data)
sorry I don't know how to remove specifically a single widget from launcher data. By clearing data all user defined shortcuts and widgets will be removed. (Launcher Reset)
Enjoy!!

I like Go Launcher and would use it, in fact that is the launcher included on the Nook Touch rooting file, but when looking in the app drawer the font is too big and I can't see the app name. The funny part is when looking at the recent app tab and close app tab I don't have that problem.
I'm currently running a HTC Flyer P512 (Market used to identify it
as "HTC Flyer P510e" but since I changed to LeeDrOid's Honeycomb
v2.0.0 rom its identified as "HTC_Flyer_P512_NA" something in
build.prop probably changed ).
ROM: LeeDrOid's HC v2.0.0
I'm not even sure which launcher's support Honeycomb
or how they display the icons on the desktop.
Do any of them offer a replacement for People's full screen
widget to select contact by image? Do any of the offer a
calendar agenda view widget?
There are several alternative launchers on the market. ADW EX and Go-Launcher are two that are quite popular. They both offer some extra features over the stock Android.
But... you cannot use HTC widgets with them and I have never found any third party widgets that are comparable to some of HTC's. There's a couple of People contact widgets out that are not bad, but no email or bookmarks that work well. There's lots of calendar apps that are pretty good. My preferred setup is to keep sense and use ADW EX as an alternate. Then I can have best of both. I use Sense when I am working and need my emails and contacts handy and ADW when I am relaxing and want to play.
You can easily switch which is your default launcher.
How do I get the alternate launcher to start?
I'm using LeeDrOid's Honeycomb v2.0.0 ROM
The sense launcher is the current default,
how do I get a prompt to switch, or is there
an app that does that?
If you have another launcher installed hit home, should show both options. If not go to settings then applications then manage, select all, find browser abd clear defaults

If you decide to make one launcher permanent so you quit getting asked every time you hit the Home button there is a free app called Home Switcher that lets you easily switch back and forth.
When you try another launcher its a completely separate desktop and icon layout. Make sure you like the launcher before you invest the time to redo your desktop setup.
I'm using Go Launcher and I like 99% of its customization options. I also use Folder Organizer to make desktop folders for my apps. It has you choose different tags like Games, Utils, etc for your apps. Then with each new app you install, folder organizer will notify you so you can classify it and it will appear in the right folder(s). You can even nest folders.
Ok, new View owner... longtime lurker on the site.
I really like the Sense experience on this tablet, my phone is a rooted Nexus S4g with ICS. There- I have a few custom launchers which just add to the ICS experience rather than be a replacement- I'm using Nova currently.
Does no one have a custom ROM that modifies Sense to resize widgets to any size (this is really my main gripe... I want to widen Sense widgets in Honeycomb) As I don't think there's any way to hack another launcher use sense widgets.
So i noticed this on my old s2 with cyanogen 10.1 and now on my stock s3. The ram is always used a lot. So in android assitant i went to see what was in memory and turns out most of the stuff is widgets that im not using. Like facebook buttons and now on s3 stock some call forwarding widget that uses about 11 mb. I only noticed most of this stuff was widgets when i noticed that the titles were in blue and in android assistant blue stuff in ram is widgets. Now my problem is i only use a clock and weather widget and only one homescreen so it bothers my that all these widgets from other apps some of them bloatware are on ram and i never even used them. Is there anyway to stop these widgets from going to ram withtout uninstalling the apps that have them?
