Hi everyone.
I am aware that most of us are facing issues on how to get Whatsapp working on our Flyer. Is there any fixes for this yet? It says "cannot recognise device". Read some few thread.. saying that Whatsapp do not plan to support tablet devices.
I am having a 3G Flyer.. I switch SIM card(with data plan) from my phone.
Yeap im having problems too.
I'm managed to register and use whatsapp yesterday when I got my simcard. Then I factory reset my phone and reinstalled, and it says unable to recognize device. Dam I shouldnt have factory reset the flyer!
Pls help!!
P/s: I hope rooting is not necessary

Thanks!! But do u mean the 1st reply or 2nd? I've tried all steps from the 2nd reply (by jaya) but unfortunately after downloading and installing the app, it still says "cant recognize the device" so I can't even get to the registration part..
Maybe I should consider rooting...?

Ermm.. perhaps ur flyer is rooted?
In general, 2.3.4 flyer can not run Whatsapp.
2 way to do it.
1.if now, your flyer is 2.3.4. you must go back to 2.3.3 and register whatsapp and use titanium backup for back up whatsapp with data to Sdcard(but i choose backup all and restore whatsapp only). And then you can upgrade to 2.3.4 and restore whatsapp from titanium backup and reboot. Got it
2.if now, your flyer is 2.3.4. And you have other android phone. This process not need to go back to 2.3.3. your flyer can still 2.3.4.
You must register whatsapp with other android phone(same sim that you want to use with flyer). And backup with titanium to Sdcard(i choose backup all and restore whatsapp only). Move Sdcard to your flyer and restore whatsapp with titanium. Reboot. got it
All process need ROOT and i use titanium backup pro.
2 process solve the problem for me. Choose the best for you

I installed WA before on HC Stock with no problems at all.
Yesterday when I was downgrading to GB (for root and S-off) and back to HC I noticed that WA didn't install on GB with the downloaded apk from the WA-site. Kept nagging about device not supported.
When I was back at HC it worked once again.

for the second time in the last two months, I have begun not receiving texts or calls on my HTC Droid Eris running KaosFroyo v38. I hesitated and eventually decided against posting it there because I can't be sure it's anything in his ROM causing the issue (I may have been running Tazz's Froyo w/ Sense ROM the first time it happened).
I can send texts fine, and people are receiving them, but when they reply, I get absolutely nothing. I can make calls fine as well. When someone tries to call me, their phone says their call cannot be completed (this has only been tested with one phone).
This is becoming quite debilitating because I don't even know when people are trying to contact me, so any help would be appreciated.
NOTE: I have already tried activating the phone through Verizon. Hasn't helped.
I had a similar problem I wasn't receiving text messages. I ended up having to use the flashback21 rom. Everything is fine now.
what does that ROM do?

Any 2.1 sense based rom should fix your problem. You can make a nand of your current setup, flash any 2.1 rom you want boot it check text or phone call and then restore your nand backup for froyo. This should solve the problem but doesn't actually fix why it happened in the first place. How did you get them to start working again the first time? Most people that I've seen with this problem did this "reset" and I hadn't heard of the problem reoccurring but I wouldn't consider it a permanent fix. I personally have no idea what could be happening...not sure if Verizon is not seeing the phone as active since it doesn't have official software or what but I'm pretty sure it's something happening on their end and would have no idea of a way to prevent it unfortunately.
Edit: And you are correct it's not really a KaosFroyo issue as much as just a Froyo issue.
I'll use this opportunity to ask this: how does the NAND backup work (I think I've seen it in the recovery menu, but never used it), and also: whats the best way to backup/restore my apps and settings?

If you boot to recovery and you will see the nand option then you can choose nand backup....it will backup everything on the phone in it's current state including apps, settings, text messages and all. When you are ready to restore it you go back into recovery and back to nand and choose restore. You will only have one if this is your first time doing it but it will say BDS-XXXXXXXX where the x's are numbers that represent the date and time you made the backup(note the number of x's i put there is not the exact amount there will be). Anyway you choose that backup and it will ask if you want to restore it simalar to how it asks when you go to flash a rom. Its really a very simple process and very handy to have a backup. You can make as many backups as you can fit on your card. You can also copy the backups off the card to your pc if you want too.
wow. no more "app backup" apps from the Market for me! thanks for being so quick and helpful! Luckily, attempting to make a call just a second ago caused the phone to crash and reboot, which apparently fixed the problem (I got a boatload of texts as soon as the phone rebooted). Weird.

lol yeah rebooting the phone is always the first thing to try....nand does not replace backup apps though. It only backs them up for that current rom. When you restore a nand it restores the rom that was on the phone when you made the nand so you can't use it to back up info going from one rom to another or upgrading to a newer version of the rom because the nand will just reinstall the old rom.

You can use Titanium Backup, which is extremely popular. There's a free version on the market but I think the free version only does one app at a time. There's also My Backup Pro. Also here on xda you can find QtADB, which, while the phone is connected to the computer, you can use to backup and restore apps and their data. I actually like this way best so far. The backup files are still on your SD card, you just control the backup and restore from the computer.
It sounds like it may be stuck in EVDO only. If your ROM has EPST maybe you can change it.

Yes, exactly. There are other ways, but that's the simplest. You're welcome!
First of all, love the forum. It's been a huge help in educating me about the rooting process and different uses for roms and such. I'm here pretty much seeking confirmation on what I'm about to do. Please bear with me.
I'm using LG P500 Optimus One, running Froyo 2.2.2, firmware v10g. Since the new Official Gingerbread update is coming in a few days/weeks, I don't plan on installing a rom. However, I wish to backup my phonebook and game data so the update won't remove it. Having said so, I will need Titanium Backup which needs rooting.
Here's how I plan on doing it:
1. Enable USB debugging mode.
2. Use an old but recently formatted SD card and copy-paste GingerBreak v1.2.apk on it.
3. Insert SD card and install Gingerbreak (but not use app2sd after installation)
4. Open Gingerbreak after installation has completed and press the "root" button. (Should I expect any problems here?)
5. After rooting process finishes, the phone should reboot itself. (Again, should I be worrying here?)
6. Check to see if SuperUser is installed to signal a successful rooting process. (Is there anything else that I need to install?)
7. Download Titanium Backup from the Android Market.
8. Batch backup phonebook and apps with game data
9. Transfer backup files to my laptop for safekeeping.
10. Uninstall Titanium Backup.
11. Open Gingerbreak and click "unroot" (I don't know what happens here. Does the phone reboot itself?)
12. Once Official 2.3.X update is available, update as I would with firmware. (This should work since I unrooted, right?)
13. Repeat process 1-7. Restore phonebook and apps with game data.
14. Repeat process 10-11.
Is all of this correct? Should I expect any problems with this process? Should I install anything else after rooting to make this work?
No...your procedure is correct ...and you can backup contacts by exporting them to SD...and apps by using some app which work without a root alternatively....not sure whether you can't install official 2.3.3 if you rooted or not..but mostly you can

I rooted my phone successfully and passed the test with the app Root Check Basic and I can use Wifi tether and everything. But when I start my phone up and try to use different setting options for my MOFO I get the error:
the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly please try again.
I have tried the system restore,
unfreezing all of my apps,
going to settings manage apps,
clearing the data for each app,
and I also tried doing the system recovery multiple times
and I still get the same error.
PLEASE HELP ASAP
I say thanks ahead of time

best thing if that fails is to download the STOCK firmware and try even flashing that, if you come across the error code make sure you post it up in here so we can narrow it down
Just incase the steps above don't work, how would I flash with the stock sbf and restore it from Titanium Backup? I'm sorry I kind of a newbie to the rooting on android all together. Trying to get my experience now with some different forums

you would need to use RSDlight which can be found on the threads here or the one i posted above, i would help find the stock sbf but im at work and little on time now to find it. more then likely could be found via google.
everything you need to do can be found in ACS qbkings thread search the development thread and you will find it he does have youtube videos up as well that can help you step through step on reflashing the sbf to rooting unlocking and installing on your phone make sure you give him a thumbs up
Does anyone have a working link for the Motorola Photon 4G stock SBF file? All of the ones I have googled and tried to find were not available links. Anyone?????
Ok so I found out why I was getting that random error message before when I tried to go through the process of getting that stock ROM on the MOPHO to get rid of those errors. It was because I still had my SD and SIM card in still. So after taking them out and going through all the processes I got it working now. Thanks for all of your help!
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
I would get this same error as well as other system apps crashing on both my captive (Samsung Galaxy S) and Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket. The cause was that I restored system apps from older versions of android and they were conflicting with the newer build. When you do the batch restore be sure to deselect system apps such as phone 1.0. Most of these are marked in red so they are easy to route out. Also you can sort by install date to push most of them to the bottom of the list. I did not install phone however I am getting the error now on my new SG2 Skyrocket. Need to test it some more but do not have time right now. It may be CONTACTS/CALLS data, or maybe SMS/MMS/APN Dial Storage data that is the culprit. or maybe i missed contacts 1.0 or phone 1.0 when i did the restore. Anyway I will go back and do it again and let you know my finds.
BTW I am restoring my data to my AT&T SGII Skyrocket which was created on the Captivate running 2.3.3 Cognition 5.2. The SG2II is stock, rooted 2.3.5.
Note, using the Migrate System Data option in TB's preferences may resolve this too as restoring with TB across newer versions of Android have not been this problematic in the past and I forgot to check that option. Haste makes waste.
FIX
OK I got tired of my phone messing up so I took the time out to fix it.
My suspicions were correct, in my case the culprit was:
[CONTACTS/CALLS...cts Storage 2.3.5
You can either choose to not restore the offending data or if you have already done so and are experiencing the:
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
error you can delete the data for the offending item(s) via TB.
To remove the data just locate in the backup/restore page the item(s) in question in TB and tap on them. choose wipe data. Reboot and it should be fixed.
A heavy handed way to avoid this or if you are not sure what is the offending data you can simply use the restore missing apps + data batch option in TB. This will ensure no system apps are replaced as this is the cause of the problem in the first place (replacing an app or its data with and outdated version).
If you go this route and still need the missing data imported, use google's cloud (account sync) to retrieve your contact, calender, and other data. As for text messages, you can carry these over with a free app on the market Backup SMS.
your findings are awesome! I just bumped into this "com.android.phone" FC problem with my newly flashed Samsung Galaxy S2.
Thanks a lot

Nope,no way to recover it except you accidentally delete it manually, recover it back using Recuva...
Try to use Recuva to check deleted file, who know you might found it and recover it back

been there done that buddy.
just remember, everytime you update a new rom or flash a new rom, always make a backup of your apps using titanium backup recommended (need root) because it said it will wipe phone memory data which means it will delete your google market account therefore, your downloaded apps will be lost.
nothing we can do here

Hi, I'm new. I hope you could help me.
First things first. 'Sony xperia tablet Z wifi 16gb' is my first tablet and android device.
SGP3111
Android 4.4.2
Kernel 3.40-perf-g32ce454
Build 10.5.A.0.230
I upgraded it to 4.4.2 and I'm really disappointed about the restriction to write on the external sd card. I read about the new changes on the android official site, but there was nothing about sd card write permission changes. I didn't see it coming.
Is there a way to fix this problem without rooting the device? I never done something like that, I don't want to loose my warranty and it seems that there are many thing to consider.
I read that if backup my TA partition, I can eventually restore it later and keep my warranty, but I also read that I need root permission to do such thing and my bootloader must be locked. And some root procedure requires the bootloader to be unlocked.
If I root my device I won't be able to update it with official update, I'll have to do it manually.
If I change ROM, MHL won't work anymore.
Is that all right? I'm confused :\
I also don't want to loose my purchased app, my settings and my savegames.. I really spend a lot of time on this tablet. A simple backup will resolve all of that?
Is there a way to fix everything?
Thank you for your patience and your time.
Hi, you must root to bypass sd restricitions sorry
I'm also new to Android, the Z is also my first tablet and I did the same thing you did. I could not use my SD-card anymore. So I read a lot in the internet. The only thing you can do is to root your device. I did it yesterday and now I am happy again. If there is something broken on your device you still can remove root before sending it back.
I did a Titanium Backup before. But I think this only works if you are rooted. Is this the truth? I had a great restore, everything looks like before. But there should be some data backed up to Google if you have activated this point.
You will not loose your purchased apps. Google Playstore knows which apps you have purchased in the past and you are able to load them "for free".

nice post, but I have some questions.
Did you make a TA partition backup? I read that this thing is what make your warranty still intact.
Titanium backup needs root permission, so I cannot do that. Did you use titanium app or sony pc companion backup?
Did you also restore app settings and game savegames?
Are you using 4.4.2 official kitkat with root or some other ROM? I read that MHL wont work anymore on that.
Thank you.
No I did'nt have a TA-Backup. Right after I got my tablet I rooted it with Android 4.3 before I read something about TA-Backup. But I think it's a good idea to do so. Here is a nice link: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/easily-backup-the-ta-partition-on-your-sony-xperia-device/
So now you know, I started with a rooted device. (My thought was to root it right after I got it, to don't loose data when I try to root it a few month later. When there was Android 4.4 I thought I will try without root. That was a very bad idea. I had so much problems with restrictions from Android. A lot of Apps were not running anymore which even did not need root with Android 4.3.) So I used Titanium Backup as backup solution and had a backup from my 4.3 rooted installation. Titanium Backup is really great. It recovered every App setting (savegames, settings) and also system settings like Wifi keys, app symbols at the screen and so on. I only had to download some big game files at the first start automatically (settings and savegames were still recovered).Titanium Backup saves the backup on your SD-card.
For your info, if you use my linked instruction, the SD-card will not be formated. But a backup is recommended.
I used the Kitkat ROM from the link, I think this is the official one.
I think google does a backup of some of your Apps settings when you are connected with your google account. Am I right? But I'm not sure which data is backed up. Can anybody else answere this question? But I think there will be a way to backup most of your data without root.
