Thanks to all for all of the great info i have found on here so far
Now the one I haven't seen an answer to.
I have a USCC Mesmerize - can it be rooted and flashed to another handset on Sprint CDMA (Same networks I believe CDMA 850) like the Transform or such.. I heard of evo's being switched to be able to be used with BOOST CDMA and that is what I would like to do with the Mesmerize. Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks all in advance.

I just converted my Tmobile service to ATT after getting tmobile to unlock my phone for me.
I have everything working with ATT now and no problems so far. In fact the one thing I hoped would happen is I would get the better coverage at my home with ATT then I had with tmobile and I have, so I am happy.
Now, I am curious about something I have read in regards to "radio stacks", and apparently different providers may have different radio stacks?
I want to make my phone as compatible as I can with ATT and just curious if anyone knows of any specific ROM's, Radio Stacks or any other ATT based software that might be beneficial to me. You help will be greatly appreciated.
Unlike T-Mobile, ATTWS includes almost no carrier-based software on the phone. You're running a pretty generic HTC setup on ATTWS.
I switch back and forth between ATTWS and T-Mobile and I have not had any problems using one radio stack on the other.

My question is this, since you're now getting better coverage at my home with ATT what raio stack is your phone currently running AT&T or T-Mobile? To check go to Start, Settings, System, Device Information.
I'll be visiting India for a month and would like to use my Fascinate with a local carrier while I'm there and continue with Verizon once I get back. Do I have to unlock the phone? Is it possible? and how?
I have used GSM phones successfully over there in the past but this is my first CDMA phone, so I don't know much about it.
I found this, but don't know if it is Sprint specific.
TIA.
Not very likely. CDMA phones can't be unlocked nearly as easily as GSM phones, if at all. You have to basically flash a new radio ROM that will work with whatever CDMA carrier you are going to be using the device on. I would search around and see what you can find, by my personal searching points to no.
our phones don't use a sim card, so it's highly unlikely you could use it over there. however, verizon offers loaner phones for out of country use.
If the carrier will allow flashed phones, the fascinate is as simple as it gets. Flash mip and all other information along with prl using qpst build 323. Then plash ppp for 3g using build 215. Yeah, it's that simple.

Thanks, I didn't understand half of it but I'll Google it up
If I do all this, will I be able to use my phone with Verizon once I get back?
Heh; semi-derailing of topic and food for thought.
A co-worker of mine has a vibrant (T-mobile). Apparently you can flash GSM to CDMA and vice versa, but it breaks a lot of stuff
Note: I said 'flash' - I didn't say anything about it working. Your phone will boot though and it'll look like that version you flashed... but it don't work.
This is why you search before bricking (I'm a bit over novice with software and got outta brick mode with a little help from here).
Welllll....basically you just flashed a CDMA ROM maybe, because flashing GSM radio information to a CDMA device(which I doubt would even work) would most certainly brick your radio.
Pretty sure the CDMA radio on the Fascinate will NOT work on the other major CDMA carrier which is Sprint, and the Fascinate will definitely NOT work with GSM carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile. Although, it is entirely possible to flash to another minor carrier such as MetroPCs or Cricket, with special instructions of course.
I have the HTC Evo LTE flashed to Boost with a 3G doner phone (TP2). Been working great.
I now want to flash a One SV or a Boost Force (made by ZTE) to have 4G as part of my service as well.
Would this be possible? With regard to flashing LTE from phones, is that plausible in this case? I have CDMA paid and other tools. I want information before I attempt to tackle this project.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Honestly, your treading open water there, (I'm betting) your not gonna find anyone to offer any input simply because very little to few have even attempted yet...I would have already myself, as I work exclusively with flashing to Boost, but unfortunately, Columbus doesn't have LTE yet. I can tell you though, that the second we get it up and running out here I will dive into it and definitely report back here if no one else hasn't yet.
Would love to hear how it went for you if you try it, a nice tutorial would even be nicer . Good luck with it, either way. BTW, I have heard it is definitely plausible.

I am trying something similar with a note 2 from sprint it has the lte sim card mod on it trying 2 get the lg optimus f7 since it has a sim card on boost for 4g lte.
I have an HTC EVO Design (Kingdom) from Sprint. It is a hybrid CDMA/GSM world phone with a sim slot, but it is network locked to Sprint only in the US. I am wondering if I root this phone with a custom rom/kernel, will I be able to use it with any GSM carrier in the US?
Thanks for any responses in advance!
I've been doing a lot of searching around on this matter to try and figure this out on my own but haven't found the answer to my question, that's why I finally decided to make this thread here.
I've seen some threads about S-OFF and wondering if doing that to my Evo Design will enable it to work with US GSM carriers..
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can. Sprint merely required a call [see their owners' manual], but Boost, FreedomPop or [Hero S] USCC require a sim unlock. I acheived this w/ a hardware tool [riffbox], but I'm sure there are other methods.

I just bought a brand new Verizon S4 that has never been activated on Verizon for $125. I am trying to get it working with a prepaid carrier in the US. I have been reading that it can be done with T-Mobile and ATT but am not sure where to start with this thing. For starters, the Android OS version is 4.3. I know there is an update out for it through Verizon. I can't do the update OTA with no Verizon service. I'd like to get this thing as close to stock Android/Samsung as possible and kill all the Verizon BS and then get it working on StraightTalk, Cricket, SIMple Mobile, or MetroPCS. Can anyone give me a good place to start or any tips. I've flashed ROMs before, changed PRLs, etc, so I'm no dummy when it comes to this stuff. The terminology/technology has changed some since I was messing with Boost Mobile phones. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Try searching.
You will need to ODIN to 4.4.2.
You will then need to root with "towelroot".
The phone should work with most any GSM carrier with the right setting. (T-Mobile, AT&T and Metro GSM).
Which will give you LTE, I can't answer.

I have used ODIN before when working with my Samsung Galaxy Prevail through Boost Mobile so I'm sure I can figure it out. Thanks for the info. I tried searching and found all kinds of different terminology such as SafeStrap and talking about the different bootloaders. It's a little overwhelming, but I'm sure I can figure it out. I did all of my original stuff through AndroidForums and there as a root section with all kinds of guides, FAQs, etc. Is there a beginners guide or FAQ for the Verizon S4?
I have read where I need to change the APN settings to get HSPA+ or 4G LTE with the different GSM carriers. It seems like HSPA+ is the best I'll get and that's through ATT. I'll keep digging! Thanks!
