Clearing dalvik cache without root. - Droid Eris General

Hello all. My girlfriend has a Droid Eris, and it's been a great phone. How ever due to it's age and her addiction of anything that says free in the market...lol. I believe her dalvik needs to be wiped. The phone is starting to lag and frame skip horribly, apps refuse to load at times. I've used standard cache cleaners from the market and cleaned things up a little. However I want the clean the dalvik cache.
But the thing is, the phone is unrooted. And she refuses to let me root it. Is there a way of cleaning the dalvik without root? Please help.

Download the one click root App, and root it... Tell her that this App will really work.

The 1-click root does install Amon_RA without needing a computer. It also puts a rootme.zip flashable file that puts root (i.e, SU) on the stock ROM. It won't overclock without a replacement kernel, but you'll have the ability to wipe dalvik from recovery.
It's in the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.andirc.erisrooter&feature=search_result

Thanks for the help. I just need to be able to clear a few things. Her phone is at the point where it doesnt even load apps any more and all they do is force close.

Factory data wipe... Also when I had an eris, I rooted it at work without a pc, all very easy.

Its better to root your device and then clear the dalvik cache.

[Q] Das BAMF Lockscreen Missing

I am running Das BAMF 2.1 Remix and had a strange issue today that I can't seem to get around. My battery died while I was using the phone, so I plugged it in and promptly rebooted. The lock screen was completely missing. The notification bar is still there, but I can't use the phone. Here is what I have tried:
Wipe Cache and Dalvik and reboot
Put it in a Car dock to Unlock
Reflash ROM after wiping cache and dalvik
Wipe system, cache, dalvik and reflash ROM
Wipe system, cache, dalvik each 3 times and reflash ROM.
I am trying to avoid wiping data because I have only had the ROM on a week and had just got it the way I wanted it so I don't have a nandroid or a Ti Backup (I know, dumb). I think I have most of it backed up, but I really don't want to lose anything else. The only other thing I can think of is flashing the kernel again (I don't think this will help, but as you can tell, I am out of options). Anyone have any ideas or am I just going to have to wipe everything and start over?
Edit: I also can't get ADB to recognize the phone, but I think it because the driver never loaded properly.
Even though it's currently down, go to teambamf.net for assistance. That is where the devs are now that they left XDA

Thanks man, I will contact them. I ended up wiping data and flashing. Fixed it but man it is a pain to set everything up. My market links must have been broken because none of my apps downloaded.
does 2.1 have the tool kit. im not sure if they are all the same but in the sense system settings, you can enable it but i really dont know about 2.1
Tool kit is the same, but what are u talking about enabling?

wow, never had that issue. I'd check with DasBamf. They know best!

The noob is back and totally confused and needs help...

So I asked the other day about which rom would be best for a noob like me, in this thread to be exact: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483712 and although most said Eclipse, I had a few people saying CM7 since it is based off of 2.3.4 and I would not have to SBF to try it and so on... So that sounded good to me and I made up my mind to try out CM7 and start out the easiest way possible, heh. So I got started and was following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21342515 downloaded all the files and what not and sat on them for a day before trying anything... cause I was sure I would screw something up... and I feel like I have...
So heres what I did. I read number 1 was NANDROID BACKUP! So I go to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318083 which says to perform a backup I must be rooted. Now this conflicted with the original thread I had read, but I went ahead and rooted it anyways. Followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315711 and everything went fine. I rooted my phone. But I was already worried because I am not sure if I was supposed to do some kind of back up before rooting... but its a little late for that now.
So now that I am rooted I go back to the original CM7 thread and go ahead and perform the backup which goes fine. Now, at this point I assume I move on to number 5 on that list, because I shouldnt have to root again, correct?
So number 5 states: 5. Put both the Google Apps zip, the CM7 zip, and dragonzkiller's patched BSR apk on your EXTERNAL sd card. I go and get my files and put them on the External SD card (or so I thought). I then move to number 6 that says go into Bootstrap recovery, which I do fine, then move on to the next one that says Install CM7.zip but I cant find it. I see google apps and tethering but nothing about just CM7.zip. Go back to later in the post under downloads and make sure I have everything that is there. I made sure all of this is on my EXTERNAL SD card:
Patched BSR APK for ALL versions of CM7DX2
Google Apps (market, maps, YouTube, etc.) MD5 Sum: e4313eb28b65758bff0cf63bc1a404f5
Tethering Patch for CM7DX2-beta1
REFLASH THE GAPPS AFTER UPGRADING IN CASE OF FACTORY RESTORE
Cyanogenmod 7 for the Motorola Droid X2 - BETA MD5 Sum: 789f25244e475901048e0d0e5908b5a4
I try to click the Patched BSR file, but it doesnt install anything, so I go to install the google apps and tethering assuming CM7 is in there some where... reboot and get stuck in a boot loop. Yeah, I am surprised too I am learning what all these terms mean, lol.
So I didn't know what to do, so I ripped off my Otterbox case and pulled the battery and went back and found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318083 and I performed a restore and got my phone to boot back up.
So this is where I am now. I really don't know where to go from here. Am I still rooted? Did I screw up by rooting first? The instructions were really confusing for a noob and I tried to make sure I knew what I was doing before I started and I still managed to screw it up. I am not really worried that I screwed up the phone... seems to be working fine as is, and if I am stuck I guess I can just leave it like this till November when I upgrade... But I would really like to get some help and see if anyone out there could hold my hand and get me thru this and let me know where I went wrong. I am up for continuing... but I need to be clear before I do anything else. I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it... Thanks so much for your time if you made it this my rambling...
Well first of all do you have Superuser in your app tray?

You did a data wipe in android recovery! If so you need to reroot
Then install our bootstrap recovery,
You already have the files on your card so find them in file manager, boot into bsr, flash cm7, while still in bsr flash gapps. Data/cache/dalvi= wipe
Reboot will take you into cm7, install the patched bsr. Apk inside some file managet program.... Enjoy
from my X2 roaming the north
I wasnt clear on if you got the CM7.zip file cleared up and got it to show up in recovery. That needs to be flashed first. The bootstrap.apk isnt installed in recovery. You install that after you get CM7 up and running. Just go to any file manager and click it. It should ask if you want to install it. The process should be, from stock android:
1. Root your phone
2. Install regular bootstrap (not CM7 bootstrap) EDIT: Actually I think this installs when you root. I dont remember, its been so long. lol. If not, find it and install it.
3. put zip files on your sd card
4. In Booststrap recovery, wipe data, clear cache and under "advanced", clear dalvik cache.
5. Flash CM7 zip FIRST, THEN google apps zip (Probably the tether patch here too, but I never did it so dont take my word on that.)
6. Reboot (CM7 SHOULD boot up)
7. Install the CM7 Bootstrap for future flashing.
You should be good after that.
Just to make things clear, the name of the CM7.zip is this:
update-cm-7.2.0-RC0-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip
So, when they say to install the CM7.zip file, that is the file you want to look for.
Here are the files you should have for CM7 and the order they need to be flashed in:
update-cm-7.2.0-RC0-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip (Again, this is the mentioned "CM7.zip" file)
gapps-cm7dx2-signed.zip (This is the Google Apps zip)
CM7DX2-beta-tether-patch-signed2.zip (This is the tether patch)
Once you are in CM7, that is when you want to install the MOTODX2_Bootstrap-CM7_signed.apk BSR.

I thought you were supposed to wipe data and cache and all that before flashing. Doesnt wiping it after flashing wipe the stuff you just flashed? Or does it not really matter? I always clear data/cache BEFORE flashing anything.

You're right. Most of the time, you clear that out BEFORE you flash. I went ahead and removed that instruction so as to not confuse him.

Yes. I updated it as well.
Thanks everyone, I passed out this morning with the computer sitting on my lap, and just woke up... so I am gonna try to go thru your answers. Appreciate all the help!
Your restore has root. Since you used root to install the recovery, your backup includes the necessary files. Sometimes instructions can be confusing or worded oddly. Once you get the hang of it, it will be easier. First thing you should do is enter our recovery and format data, cache, and dalvic (in the advanced section), then flash your cm7 zip. After, flash gapps and tether patch. I like to put my zips in their own folder so I can find them easily.

Wiping only removes user apps. You can flash cm7 then wipe all day and you will still have cm7 that's why sbf's are necessary.

Sounds like you used the patched bsr to try and flash cm7. That should be installed after cm7 is running on your phone. Should have used the unpatched bsr first.

Yeah, I think I will be able to figure it out with all of your help. I have been busy and not had a chance to get to it yet... but I was wondering if I should start from scratch, un-root and re-root? I was not sure if that is necessary, but I am gonna try again this weekend and wasn't sure. I did want to ask, is it hard to un-root your phone?

SBFing will remove the root because it returns your phone back to stock. It's a complete wipe of ANY changes you've made to the phone.
If you want to ensure that you remove any traces of rooting, flashing, modifications, SBFing will do that.

[Q] Anyone have any tips about this?

Now my head i about to explode
Anyhow, I have an annoying problem.
Before the upgrade to XXALF6 I noticed no problem other than the known drainage of the battery in idle mode.
I rooted and flashed a ROM and it was ok.
But I got sick of the ROM and I hard reset the phone.
No problems.
Then I upgraded to XXALF6 - still unrooted and all.
First thing I notice is that the phone is lagging a bit now and then. Then when I sent and recieved an SMS or two the phone hung and rebooted.
I seems that happend because when vibration was active.
Also there was a new message saying "com.google.process.gapps" stopped working. And that came up again and again.
As far as I could find online that had to do with syncing the calendar and it should help to clear calendar cache in the phone. It did not.
Then I rooted the phone, just "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4", no other ROM.
Now the problem was even worse and also the sound stops working on and off all the time.
I tried to find the "com.google.process.gapps" with a file explorer with no luck.
I do find it in ROM Toolbox but its not possible to see the where on the phone the file is even there. Also its not possible to uninstall or even kill the process.
I did notice there seem to be doubles of some apps that I didnt notice previously to flashing CF-Root this time.
And I recall the new guide never mentions to wipe any phone data whatsoever during rooting the phone, and now I am thinking that maybe that should have been in the guide?
Anyhow.. appreciate ANY tips at all, Im so sick of this for the moment ^^
Go to cwm recovery, wipe cash, wipe dalvik cash, wipe data/factory reset, then go to mounts&storage, format system. Then put your phone into the download mode and flash ROM again with odin. This should give you a nice and clean install, without any force closes..

I did wipe all things, cache, Dalvik, battery and user data with CWM.
At the moment it seems the phone is quite okay actually! The only thing left is SU.
U think I have to format system as well? What else would really be "cleaned" out that wasn't allready with the wipes?
Trust me,some of the devs insisted on formating system before flashing their custom roms, and I did have a bunch of force closes, until I decided to go their way and fully format the phone. It then installs everything from the scratch,so there's no way anything to go wrong.. give it a try,and report back... btw. make sure that you DO NOT restore any of the system data,if you use TB
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I pretty much learnt same way as predja it is always better to do full system wipe, it is not always necessary with some roms but if you do it you won't come across the problems you have as often.

[Q] About to sell rooted T-bolt, a few questions first

Hey all,
About to sell my rooted Thunderbolt and just wanted to ask a few questions about wiping it clean. So I posted it on Swappa as rooted with SkyRaider Zeus 1.3, and the person buying it didn't say anything about wanting it unrooted or wanting me to flash anything else on there (smart!). So I am including the microSD card, which is easy enough to format after I've transferred what I want onto my laptop. My question is about factory resetting the phone. So there is the Factory data reset option under SD & phone storage menu in settings. Would I use that? Or would I wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik etc. from my recovery? If I wipe the phone using the recovery, can I re-flash the Zeus ROM, and then shut down the phone afterwards, so that the first time they turn it on they have to enter all their Google information, etc? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Just do a clean flash of the rom and don't finish the startup. Even if you let it boot into the homescreen they will still be able to log in after they try to access the play store.

Sounds good, thanks! Also, just wanna make sure by wiping the SD card, it won't mess with anything recovery related, right? Obviously I don't care about nandroids that I'll be deleting, just don't want to mess with any recovery functionality by formatting the sd card. I'm on TWRP if that matters.
You may want to keep the img of it on the root of the SD card there just in case. It may be useful if there is an issue. I don't know how it could be but I would just to be sure. The recovery should be there regardless.

[Q] Thunderbolt failing to boot after custom ROM

I recently attempted to root my HTC thunderbolt, and to do so I used the htc dev unlocker and then this "HTC Thunderbolt Tool'
rootzwiki.com/topic/27310-all-in-one-the-htc-thunderbolt-tool
After that I downloaded a rom and installed it through the 4ext recovery, it all install fine and I did do a factory/data reset but whenever I reboot after the rom install, I get the HTC white bootloader and then the screen become black with a back light to it.
I have tried a number of times to re-install the rom and have tried to use other roms but all of them seem to end the same way.
I have used:
BAMF FOREVER 1.1
BAMF MECHA ICS
AIRBORNE GOUI
Killsense 3.7.19
Lightning501
few more
My phone is a HTC Thunderbolt and when I attempted to root the phone it had a hboot version of 1.0.8 and had a stock version of ICS installed.
Sadly I have a phone without a working rom and I had forgot to make a backup so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Preferably I would like to keep the phone rooted but its not necessary.
Thank You
I'm a total xda-developor noob, so I hope I didn't mis a thread with a the solution all ready on it.

I have tried clearing everything but still doesn't seem to work.
One thing I forgot to mention is sometimes if I wait long enough on the blank screen It boots me back into the 4ext recovery, don't know if that makes much of a difference.
The way I have been installing the rom
Load ROM onto the SD
Do a "wipe data/factory reset"
Go into install sd and choose the Rom which is in a .zip file
I think this is how its supposed to be done, but not sure.

Problem is you were coming from the ICS OTA.
The All In One Tool alone will not get you rooted after taking the OTA.
In order to fully root and s-off after having the OTA loaded, you would need to follow the steps outlined HERE

You can use whatever Recovery you want, Clockwork Mod is old and not really suggested to use, especially with newer roms.
I miss the RA recovery I had on my first bolt. I use the ext4 recovery now. Glad Santod was able to help you out!!
