Vlingo - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Wow. This touchwiz UI isn't nearly as bad as what shipped on the captivate.
I have no complaints about speed. The only thing that bothers me is that the double tap of the home button launches vlingo.
Do I need to root to disable this?

Yes.
Rooting is pretty simple, and once you do it right you can install Titanium Backup and get rid of "Voice Command" I think it's called.

[Q] Task Manager cylcling backwards through apps

I was curious if anyone knows why when I choose "End All" in task manager and then hit the back key it will cycle through the apps I just previously used. Shouldn't the back key close task manager and not open up previous apps? I know it's not a ROM issue because it has been doing this on about 5 or 6 different ROMs I've tried and Ive been back to stock 2.2 also, still does it. Any ideas?
Which one are you talking about? the one with the level 1/2? or just the end all?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
just the end all under the first tab "active applications". When i hit end all and then hit the back key, the back key causes the phone to revert to the last app that was open. is i continue to hit back it will go to the app before the last that i used and sometimes dead end at a blank screen
what launcher are you using?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It's the launcher that came with bionix 1.3.1 but i dont think that makes a difference considering it has done the same thing using TW and launcher pro
hmm yea, that happens i think because it also kills your launcher. so instead of pressing the back button hit the home button.

[Q] App for quick shortcuts to other windows?

Hi guys was wondering if there is this app out there that can do the following...
You know when you swipe left or right you go to different windows from the home screen. Is there an app or something that wil allow you to swipe up or down from the homescreen to go to the window to the left x2 or to the right x2. I'm basically trying to find a way to get to my other windows in just 1 swipe as opposed to 2. It might not be much but I would much prefer it that faster if possible.
Anyone know of anything that can do this for me?
I use the "pinch and pick" method. (At least that's what I call it.)
Or hit the Home button twice (or just once if you're already on the Home screen).
That's an interesting idea but I would assume it would have to be built into the launcher you're using. Like home screen replacement Apps have swipe up for this and down for that but I haven't seen them have an option for swipe up for page x.

Try an app called Wave Launcher. It's not exactly what you described as what you're looking for but may be another solution, it's a fantastic app! Here's a link for you:

Swipepad is free in the market

Go launcher, set it to show previews on swipe up (you can even make it so it only does that when you swipe up on a specific dock icon, too!)

Swipepad is the shizzle, too! Good find! Swipepad + wave launcher + go launcher = totally covert homescreen! No statusbar, no dockbar, just secret areas to swipe from!

Will that all eat up my battery a lot if I'm running stock everything non-rooted?
I'm really enjoying being non-rooted because surprisingly everything just WORKs. Battery life is great as I can get an entire 12-13 hour day out of it before it goes red.
Also...why Go Launcher? When I use to have it on my old Evo 4g whenever I would press the "home button" it would close Go Launcher and go back to the stock launcher...also...I have to use their own Friend widget (people widget) if you use it right? Or has that changed? When I used Go Launcher before the People widget I use to use from Sense disappears.
I'm completely stock.... Just download Wave Launcher and try it, if you like it then excellent, if you don't then uninstall... It's a free app so you lose nothing trying it. Good luck!

Stock unrooted, too. GO Launcher (like any alternate home app) doesn't allow the use of Sense Widgets but they have an alternative to most of them and the widgets are themeable. Battery usage is no more than usual and if you REALLY wanna squeeze all the juice you can from a charge, check out Juice Defender. And why GO Launcher? It takes the best parts of all the paid launchers (ADW, Launcher Pro, etc), improves on them, adds in even more functionality, offers tons of themes or the ability to create your own, and it's free! I use GO SMS, GO Contacts and GO Dialer, too. The GO Weather is borked though lol dunno why

[Q] disable double tap home button

Did any one know how to disable double tap home button ???
You will find all instructions and files you need in this thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227479
I think they're asking about the voice command activation. Currently you can only do this if you have root access. After you get root, you'll have to download an app freezer like Titanium Backup Pro in order to freeze voice command.

Well, not really.
In fact you can just freeze the app and the double tap won't work anymore, but it won't fix the lag that we have with the home button (it doesn't react immediatly because it wait for an eventual double tap). You can fix this lag by following the indication in the thread I pointed to, it will fix the lag by removing completely the double tap feature.
Tanks. XD

+1 billion.
Download Nova launcher and then you can put an icon on your homescreen that let's you get into the multitasking menu with one press.
It will work with TW too.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
ive read the description of nova launcher but couldnt find anythinga bout multi tasking. can you explain a bit more?
Not only nova you can have it in apex too, in fact you can simply bring the recent apps menu by making a swipe gesture on home screen
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》
I'm not sure if it works on the gs3, but I use an amazing app on my transformer prime called gesture control.
It basically allows you to define actions by using gestures.
You can define two, three, and four finger gestures.
It really is great. Needs root though.
So you can define a gesture for bringing up the multitasking menu and it works throughout the whole system anywhere.
You don't have to be on the launcher homescreen .
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo
tried apex launcher but couldnt get it to work when im inside an app. ill try gesture control. anyone else have any suggestion for me
anyone can give me suggestion on a great gesture app that can open the recent app from anywhere?
Wave launcher is also cool multitasker. Quite different though.
Also looking for this, something like zephyr for IOS that works inside apps. It allows to close an app just sweeping from bottom to top.

i tried the app and it worked great. Can I ask what the risk of enabling usb debugging is? Im kinda paranoid of what it does, also can you suggest to me what good gesture is best to bring up the recent app list?
What does usb debugging do?
I don't understand why you don't just want to hold home? Plus when on this screen if you swype to left or right the preview is binned.
As for killing apps, Android runs on linux, linux manages ram very well and indeed runs better when you don't keep closing things all the time, it caches processes to save you time and battery when you next need them!
I use a app called "multitask shortcut" which is awesome and it only cost .50 dollars. It doesnt work inside apps though. I wish there was something like Zephyr for Android. It was awesome on the iPhone.

Google Launcher working on LG G2

I can only dream until we can get it ported properly to lg g2. Icons seem huge same with app drawer. :victory:
Yea I saw a video where they made them a little bigger.

Does the "OK Google" command work for you? Does touching and holding ur finger pop out the ability to change wallpaper and add widgets come out? If it does, when you try to change wallpaper does it crash?
Just a few issues I had on mine. LG spoiled me with the customizations.

Some widgets are being shown that are not installed but others work fine. Adding a wallpaper by holding down and selecting wallpaper is broken had to by using gallery. OK Google spoken command does work thanks to the snapdragon 800 but Google search crashes :/
The icons are GIGANTIC.

If your "OK Google" is not working... Try this.
Go into Now setting
, then Voice Settings. Go to "Offline Speech Recognition" and then either redownload or update your language. I did this and it works flawlessly now.

How do I shut this OFF, I mean COMPLETELY OFF... I do NOT want my phone listening to me all the time.
Knock on Dead
I set this up quickly, but then killed it because it disabled knock on. Also the nav bar was still the LG one so it kind of looked weird to me. And yes the icons were garrishly large. I liked the 5x5 grid on the stock launcher and this made me feel like I was using a Fischer Price launcher with the huge buttons. The killing blow for me was that I could not switch easily back to stock launcher and had to uninstall the new 4.4 launcher.
if it could work with Knock on, I might give it another go. (unless I was doing something wrong and there s a way to make it work.)

to get nexus 5 camera, and launcher + many other nexus 5 apps. Unfortunately camera only goes up to 8 Mpix and the buttons are mostly obscured by the soft keys, but it is still usable. But it does have photo sphere. Experiment by pressing just above the soft keys to activate functions and learn how to use it since the actual icons are blocked.
Enjoy

Knock on isn't disabled by a launcher. It still works. But to knock off the screen you have to taps twice in the status bar.

If you long press in the middle of the screen you get the options to pop up as well.
So, can "OK google" be installed by itself? Or does it require apks other than google search? What I'm curious about is, does it fully integrate with calender, etc.?And for those that did install it, how is the battery with it on? Can it be turned off, or does it require uninstall?
I have the launcher installed and the Google search and play services. But I cannot for the life of me get OK Google to work.

eh, it's still not a smooth, non-choppy launcher. idk why, but these stock android launchers still randomly get choppy when switching between pages, even if they're not filled with widgets or icons.
