Hello, i used the search button and didnt find and answer so i apologize if this topic has been already discussed.
I test all the roms available on this forum and make regular backups using streakmod recovery and nandroid and it saves huge amount of time.
I have noted that everything gets restored except the baseband and this is normal behaviour as I ve read in a post by the great TheManii that nandroid backups dont change the baseband
but but my question is is it advisable to fastboot flash the correct baseband to align it with its oem version after a nandroid restore or not?
details:
i restored back from gingerstreak beta2 to a previous backup of streakdroid 1.9.1 with BB 354.
now i get:
oem version shows
GAUSB1A135411
BB shows
GAUSB1A140314-US
should i fastboot flash amss.mbn of the 354 only? or both the amss.mbn and dsp1.mbn?

The best way to make sure everything is in sync is to flash the complete stock ROM with the baseband matching your backup first.
If you want to restore a nandroid of a stock rom and you have been using something else flash the stock rom that matches that backup and then restore the backup.
The same goes for custom roms, flash the stock rom the custom rom was based on first, then the nandroid of the custom rom (or the custom rom itself if a first install).

how do you backup baseband
I have been looking around to find the answer to how to backup the baseband. From what I understand Nandroid does not backup baseband. So how would you backup baseband from a fresh dell streak?

Yes, your understanding is correct, nandroid doesnt backup baseband. i have followed marvin02 advice and reflashed stock rom 354 (matching the custom rom version sd 1.9.1 was built with 354) then fastboot streakdroid recovery then did a nandroid restore.
there are available all the baseband files for each rom so another way (not really the advisable way) is to fastboot flash just the baseband risking an improper alignment of the files.
if you want to backup only the baseband just go to the dell streak page in xda and download the amss.mbn file

I have several CWM backups of Froyo on the internal SD card and odin back to JFD. I test something and done with it. Now, I want to restore back previous froyo backup. I then boot to recovery and reinstall update.zip then restore last CWM backup. It finished without a problem but kept looping at recovery screen. It wouldn't boot up to the restored backup Froyo. What did I do wrong?
You were using cm7/miui before restoring to froyo? you have to odin to stock before doing that.
Agreed! You can try to disable voodoo which will revert your system back to rfs and try to restore nandroid, but the safest and surefire way would be to ODIN right from the get. Good luck!
**EDIT**
I believe if you always backup your nandroids to PC you should be able to ODIN and restore any nandroid you have stored on your PC at your will.

Back on topic:
You were restoring a nandroid backup of a Froyo ROM with the eclair kernel (from ODINing to JFD). Nandroid backups do not restore kernel or modems so you need to first flash a Froyo kernel and modem before restoring a Froyo nandroid backup.

I'd get the ODIN flashable versions from each thread. (You'll probably want KB1 modem or whichever works best for you) and the KB1+Voodoo kernel from the second thread.
Make sure you get the *.tar files for ODIN compatibility.

After that i flashed Chainfire's CF-Root XXLP2 (Rooted Kernel) from the same tread.
After testing i decide to go back to my previously created CWM backup...
Restoring backup results in boot loop.... TO fix this i need to flash kernel again trough odin.. Tried multiple times....
Why does my old backups not working any more? What has changed?

CWM version has changed in the CF-root kernal. Many times the backup done with old CWM is not properly recoverable.
Try wiping the data/cache and dalvik cache and recovering nandroid backup.IF this doesnt work , then Best option would be to get your nandroid backup to PC , format the system , flash a stock ROM,root it and try getting to get the backup working again.

I think ICS has a different bootloader to that of GB? If so, flash original bootloader from Intratech thread post #2 with Odin in PDA or Bootloader section:

Then try restore nan-droid backup again.
Maybe I'm wrong, but you won't hurt anything if you follow his Odin flashing instructions.

Interesting... Ill try some off suggestions later. Just to clarify little more: after boot loop i flash kernel trough ODIN, (syah kernel [same kernel that is in recovery]) and everything works (i boot into previously recover system and all fine...), then going into recovery once again after restoring problem occurs again. So problem is not in CWM as kernel itself contains it...
So, maybe better question would be what part of android system does CWM NOT backup... For example, i now that it does not backup camera firmware... What else? It would be great if this backup/recovery would be more complete (including all software/flash/drivers parts of android system...).

Its simple you require the version of clockwork mode recovery on your phone that you used for the backup to recover .
Caught me out last week and took an age to realize the solution .

Yes, backup was created witth syah 2.6.6 and its CWM version... So, i flashed that kernel trough ODIN, booted CWM and recover- stuck at boot once again...

Ive tried to search for a thread about this subject but couldn't find it, so my question is;
I'm using MIUI ROM right now, And i want to go back to STOCK Gingerbread with Siyah kernel that i had.
I luckily had made a Nandroid backup before I flashed MIUI ROM.
Do i need to flash STOCK first and after that restore with Nandroid backup ?
Or can i Restore the Nandroid backup right away via CWM ?
The reason I'm asking this is because i've read things about that MIUI uses a different partition-structure ?
Could anyone help me with this please ?

Yes, it does. Nandroid backups pretty much backs up everything your phone was at that state.

Yes, that way if something is wrong with the rom or you don't like something when you flash it you can easily revert back. Grab Con's Flashable recovery helper, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547496 . Make a backup, and when you want to restore it flash the recovery helper first. It will take you to bootloader with a newly created ph98img, let it update and reboot . Now, you will be in recovery again . Just select backup/restore..select restore and then the nandroid you just made . This time it will restore the nandroid including the kernel.
Otherwise, when you restore a nandroid you still have to remember to flash the same kernel that was in the nandroid because with S-On our backups can't restore the kernel.
P.S. just remember to remove the PH98IMG zip from the SD card afterwards or you will have trouble booting back into recovery if you don't.
If on the .22 firmware, dont backup android secure. Also if restoring an ICS nandroid while currently on ICS no need to flash a kernel.

I know that cwm versions 6.0+ have a new method of backing up files. After restoring an older GB rom that has an older version of cwm, I can no longer restore these new cwm backups. I'm not aware of a cwm 6.0+ existing for GB. I tried installing siyah's GB kernel, but it only had cwm 5.5. Does a cwm version 6.0+ exist for GB roms?
Our kernels come with cwm built into them. And since gingerbread kernels aren't being developed anymore I'd say no. Good luck, happy flashing.

I may be wrong, but as far as I am aware, CWM6 is only for JellyBean Builds. As Phalanx said, there is no V6 for GB.

CWM 6 is available on ICS. But i didn't think it existed for GB. Oh well, guess i'll have to start over.
To restore em just flash CM9 or 10 first and there ya go. CWM 6 is ready to restore your backups.

Well I feel stupid..I'm not sure why I didn't think of that. I'm about to just reinstall shostock2 and then voila, cwm 6. Thank you sir!
Also, if you try to restore a cwm 6.0 backup from an earlier version of cwm, it will restore only the boot.bin, and fail on the rest of the backup. However, the phone will now have the cwm 6.0 kernel, and the next time you restore, it will work.
Here is what I do when I am wanting to restore back/forward from CWM5 saved nandroid to/from CWM6 saved nandroid.
RESTORING A CWM5 NANDROID:
1. If I am on CM Version with CWM6 and want to go back to a nandroid backup made while on CWM5 I flash this CWM5 based siyah kernel http://db.tt/owgZanij
2.Once I have installed the CWM5 Kernel I hold down volume+/- and power to restart recovery.
3. I choose the nandroid backup CWM5 based and restore it.
RESTORING A CWM6 NANDROID of Cyanogenmod firmware:
1. I flash this Siyah CWM6 Kernel http://db.tt/iHax4mvQ
2. Once I have installed the CWM6 Kernel I hold the Volume +/- and Power button until I am rebooted to recovery again
3.I choose the CWM6 (CM10 in my case) NANDROID BACKUP and restore
As long as I am on the correct version of CWM my nandroid backup will work properly. Even if the nandroid backup has a different kernel than the siyah kernel you just flashed. The nandroid restore will overwrite the kernel back to the correct kernel from the rom you were originally on.
I also use this method of flashing these kernels if I want to install a new rom based on Sammy builds or based on ASOP/CYANOGENMOD ROMs. So depending on which way I am flashing I prepare for it without having to flash a complete rom. Since flashing a kernel is much quicker. Just need to remember which way you are going and which kernel I want to get it done.
