Hello all. I have a rooted Samsung Vibrant that Im running a custom rom that has a kernel capable of overclocking. Ive been using set cpu for a while with no problems. For some dumb reason on my part I uninstalled it and tried tegraks overclock. I decided I didnt like it and went back to set cpu. But after reinstalling it the settings wont stay set on boot. Ive tried everything I could think of, wiping data, cache, dalvik, fixing permissions, reflashing the kernel. Nothing will make the settings stick. So I thought Id see what the best alterntive is before I buy one. Id like one that has profile management also. Thanks!
I'm using No-Frills CPU Control. Works very well.
Im using no frills CPU and so far seems good. Haven't tried rebooting and seeing if setttings stay. I do wish it had profile management tho. Thanks.

I was able to temp root my Archos 101 by using z4root ver 1.3 at several days ago and also able to set the CPU back to 1Ghz. However, my wife helped me to switch off the tablet accidentally (because she said she just helped me to save more power for the tablet and so I could only say nothing to her then. ) and the temp root has gone.
Afterwards, I tried to re-root my tablet using different methods such as clean up and uninstall z4root and superuser, turn on/off airplane mode / unknown resources / usb debugging, etc. but unfortunately no success anymore.
I can obviously notice the difference of performance between setting CPU to 800mhz and 1Ghz and I miss 1Ghz so much.
Can anyone suggest any workable methods to me? I will no doubt attempt all of them until I get back my 1Ghz...
have you tried turning debug switch off and on again?
yup, turn on/off several times but still got no success.
maybe debug off, restart, debug on, z4root?
You may have to wipe the device back to stock to get it to work again

Keep reboot and try again few times, i also got this problem. Take about 5-10 reboot then you can root again, but it eventually went out and need to keep reboot.
This worked for me. After a reboot, I go straight to apps> development> turn OFF usb debugging. Then I run z4root (it will ask you to turn usb debugging ON). Go ahead and turn it on. Run z4root again. It should root. Now run SetCPU and you should be good. Worked for me-- maybe it's a glitch of sorts.
I knew something was doing it, but just found out one offender is the video app.
IF you set up a setcpu widget with a refresh interval of 10s or so and setcpu to 1000, run a video, check, its set at 800, the slider still shows 1000, but you have to slide it back and forth to get the max back to 1000.
Archos mentioned some apps take advantage of the processor, they must've hardcoded the cpu speed for some apps including video app.
On my 70 I kill all apps including system before attempting root.

I've also noticed this as well, but I didn't know what was causing it. I thought maybe I had to keep SetCPU in the background to keep it from doing it.
I had this same problem and the only way to get it to root again was to wipe the device and start over.
The only thing I did that might have broken it was load Titanium Backup and installed the BusyBox from that. Every since after that I wasn't able to root without wiping. I'm too afraid to try again Titanium.
Have titanium installed and root is working.
It may sound strange, but if you have moved apps to sd-card (e.g. apps2sd): move them all back to internal storage. Reboot, and rooting should work again... also be sure you enough free RAM. Worked for me. (Found at archosforums)
have you use HOT REBOOT ??
this apk stay the root !

Same to me I try 3 different app2sd apk`s but everytime the app is on the archos, without switching apps to the sd-card, temp rooting won`t work.
So I deleted the app2sd from my archos reboot one time and everything is fine.
Hope we get shortly permanent Root !
THANK YOU!! This did it for me. Moved all my apps back to phone and now z4root is working perfect. Thank you again!

I had to uninstall superuser and rerun z4root to successfully use su again. Annoying but it worked for me.
I need to know wat setting wrk the best for TV with setcpu. My battery is worst since I've rooted and its making me want to unroot. Help please!

Well, first thing first. Let us know what ROM, kernel, and radio you are using. Those things are the major factors that effect your battery life.
Also, what is your current setcpu settings?
1025MHz max/245MHz min are the stock frequencies. Setting the CPU above that will have an impact on your battery life. I really don't find a reason to overclock this phone.
If your using SetCPU, setting up a "Screen Off" profile is a must. Set it to 245min/max, so that when the screen is off, the CPU runs at a very minimal speed, saving you a lot of battery life.
I also recommend using Green Power. It is a free app in the market. It is a lot like Juice Defender, only I think it's simpler to use.
You can set the app to turn off data when your screen is off, and turn back on when you turn the screen on. Also, you can set it to turn data on (for example) every hour, for 1 minute to sync your data, then turn back off, this way you will still get your notifications.
I find it helps my battery a lot.
Thanks I will try that. I was using Ginger3dth3ory radio mr2 i think and i dont remember the kernel. I just flashed another ROM and its synergy_rls1-mecha kernel is [email protected] #1 and i assume the radio is the same since i dint get a new one. setcpu is set at 1024/245.
My device has started to completely lock up randomly about five or six times a day and I desperately trying to find the cause.
I'm running a clean install of Checkrom Revolution v2 and Siyah v2.2 final. The problem I'm having is that I'm unable to identify exactly when the problem started to isolate the cause. As such, I've spent quite some time returning the phone to a state that I knew worked - I.e. older kernel (b16), stock voltages, re-enabled the second core, stock gpu settings and restored frequency thresholds, but to no avail.
The phone still crashes, particularly under heavy load such as running a stress test, using sat nav or playing games. However, I can still get a freeze when say I lock the device. The most frustrating part is I cannot perform a titanium backup, as it will crash during the process, with it being quite processor hungry.
So, I'm a bit stuck. Is there any way I can properly trace the cause of the lockup, in a hope to fix it?
Thanks in advance
Any ideas with this? Is there some inbuilt event log that I can read possibly?
Try a different governor (smartassV2) and make sure no UV or profiles, not needed. SetCPU set to only 100-1200mHz.
My CheckROM 3.1.1 and sirahkernel V2.2 in this configuration is flawless.

As the title suggests.
Having a very strange issue at the moment where my phone will randomly switch off when it's in deep sleep, then when I've restarted I'll find some of the more recently installed apps have been deleted/uninstalled.
What on earth could be causing this?
Using siyah kernel 2.6.11 and wanamlite rom V7.8 (2.3.6)
Sounds like a to low under volt,(you may not have undervolted)... try neak kernel, its the best by far..
I think that will sort your problem out.
If not then wipe and reflash your rom.

haven't undervolted at all, and it's set at 200-1200 MHz..
I'm not 100% sure if I had the issue with void echo (kernel I was using before), or an older siyah build but it's definitely possible.
What could explain the uninstalled apps though? it's really bizarre...
I'm going to go ahead and bump this as its happening yet again, but slightly differently as well.
I downloaded a game around 3 days ago and have rebooted once since then (yesterday) and just found that I could not launch the game (got a FC pop-up), but it was actually still installed. I then transferred the game installation to my SD card, and it launched. I then rebooted as I switched back to a different kernel via recovery mode, and now the game is uninstalled (along with at least two other apps I've noticed so far).
What is happening??? Surely someone has an idea.
Well guys i installed SETCPU right after rooting, set the limit cpu frequency values according to my choice (UC) but to mu surprise it still peaks at 1.4ghz. I'd set the valut to 200min 1000max with pegasis governor but it doesn;t work. It never happened on any previous device i rooted. Already tried rebooting, nothing happens. So what can be the cause? I guess CF Auto Root just installed the root binaries bit not the busybox. Can it be the problem?
Does your kernel support OC?
Well bro i don't want to overclock and it's stock, so i guess it doesn't support overclocking. Besides, i want to underclock it(UC). But it doesn;t work even my profiles like battery less than, charging etc doesn't work either. Setcpu shows the limit defined values but cpu keeps running at 1.4 ghz
flash a custom kernel
Thanks for the suggestion but i just wanna keep it stock to avoid any problems whatsoever. It's just that setcpu always worked even on stock kernnels. Already tried on S2 and my ace, it worked great.
